Easy way to remove duplicate photos?  Many of my photos suddenly have 4 or more duplicates.

Does anyone know of an easy way to clean up duplicate photos on iPhoto?  Suddenly have many, amany duplicates.

What did you just do? Did you by anychance change systems and import an old iPhoto library into the new one? NEVER do that  - if you did drag the bad iPhoto library to the desktop and drag the old library to the pictures foldr of the new machine and launch iPhoto
In general use Duplicate Annihalitor or DeCloner to handle duplicates in iPhoto

  • Library has been duplicated, duplicates have no file location. Easy way to remove?

Library has been duplicated, duplicates have no file location. Is there an easy way to remove them?
It's a royal ache going through each one, clicking to see if it will play, getting a 'cannot locate the file' message, delete, etc etc.
Showing duplicates just shows I have a lot to tidy up.

Apple's official advice on duplicates is here... HT2905: How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background, this post for detailed instructions, and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed.)
The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.

  • Is there an easy way to remove duplicates in my library?

Hi there, since I first started using my ipod, I've had a new laptop. Having finally figured out (with your help!) how to move the songs from my ipod to the library on my new laptop, I did the transfer but it's duplicated loads of the tracks.
Is there an easy way to remove them/stop that from happening?
    Any suggestions? Ta Legs xxx

    You'll find a script here.

  • Easy way to remove a keyword from select images

Is there an easy way to remove a keyword?
I want to remove a single keyword from nearly 100 images that have multiple keywords. The single keyword I want to remove exists in other images that I don't want it removed from.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Create a keyword button set and then either use the menu option to remove that keyword or the shortcut key.

  • Easy Way to remove Fans from Twin Frozr III ?

    Hi Forum,
i have a N680GTX Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC and want to clean the cooler from dust. Is there an easy way to remove the fans but not the cooler itself from the GPU ? Are the screws enough, which i see between the fan to take it off ?
    rgds Thomas

I can't really answer to be honest, but I would just remove them and see if the fans come off.
The only way to find out is to try and take it apart. It'll probably be quicker and easier for you to just try it (and be very careful while doing it) than wait for someone to answer here.

  • Is there a way to remove your sim card if you don't have the tool that came with your phone?

Is there a way to remove your sim card if you don't have the tool that came with your phone? I wanted to see if I could upload my old information to the iCloud, by putting the new sim card into the old phone, since I didn't before I updated my new phone.

Any metal clip will do. Insert the tip in the little hole next to the Sim Card and press FIRMLY. The SIM drawer will pop out.

  • Is there an easy way to remove photos from iPhoto in the organizer?

I had been using iPhoto, but quit when I started using Photoshop Elements.  With version 9, it imported not only photos in my pictures but those in iPhoto.  So I have hundreds of duplicates I need to remove from the organizer.  Is there an easy way to find the ones from iPhoto so I can remove them?

OK, but is there a way to search/filter on a string in the location (i.e. iPhoto) so I could then easily know which are the duplicates I want to delete?
If there isn't, then it seems that I will have to delete the catalog and start from scratch again.  I had originally thought I didn't include iPhoto in the folders to search, but apparently it was somehow included so I will have to be more granular in what folders to search if I recreate the catalog again.

  • Is there an easy way to remove duplicates in my Mac OS X Mail mailboxes?

Having imported some mailboxes from other applications I find that there are many duplicate messages in Mail mailboxes. I know this comes about from my lack of care in importing. I'd like to eliminate the duplicates, but obviously doing so one by one would be quite a task. I have little expectation that there's an easy way to do this, but I can always hope. Is there a way? Thanx,
    Ken

Mail Scripts was a good suggestion but I doesn't work. Well what do you expect with freeware. I ran the duplicate catcher script several times, once on a rather large mailbox which I know contains hundreds of duplicates and it found 1 (one). As suggested I checked "Take all accounts offline" before I ran the script. Does anyone know a different program that can eliminate those duplicates? I'd really appreciate one that works.

  • Easy way to remove duplicate songs

After a no of ITunes disasters (most of which I suspect were my fault) I have no ended up with a full library which has a lot of duplicates songs. Being an essentially lazy person is there an easier way to sort them rather than simply displaying the duplicates and deleting one by one

There is a duplicate removal script here:
    http://mysite.verizon.net/teridon/itunesscripts/
I doesn't appear to have been tested with the latest itunes although it would probably work OK.
Always backup you files before doing this kind of thing in case you don't like the result.

  • Isn't there an easier way for iPhoto to show (Photoshop) edited RAW photos?

Hi fellow Apple community members, below is a (very) detailed description of my problem>
Once I'm done shooting with my Canon DSLR i auto-import my pics into iPhoto '11.
My pics are shot in RAW format.
I have Photoshop CS6 set as my default image editor via iPhoto.
Once my image is edited via Photoshop i then save the image with two different methods:
i use the "save image..." button in the Camera RAW editing window and proceed to save the image in the same location and the same as the original name in the iPhoto directory.
The second method is to open the image as a non "Smart Object" file then proceed to save the image as a JPEG via "Save As", also in the same the location and file name as the original
The problem is once i've done the saving of the file. iPhoto doesn't show edits done to the original photo or even show a edited copy.
I CAN locate the edited images via the route directory within iPhoto's Finder menus.
So i assumed if i imported those edited copies it would then show in iPhoto but no cigar - A error message pops up: "The following file could not be imported . The file is in the iPhoto Library."
I then re-locate the edit files to another location, then import it into iPhoto and only then does it shows up in iPhoto - successfully edited.
So my question would be...isn't there a better or easier way for iPhoto to show your edited photos without having to jump through so many hoops?

There is no solution to this - and the same problem arises with Aperture too. The question to ask yourself is which Raw processor you want to use and then your Photos go there first.
As Larry says, iPhoto is pretty much pointed at the shooter with a point and shoot or phone who takes snaps to share with family and friends. Pros or serious hobbyits, people shooting large volumes, people shooting Raw migrate to the more powerful apps sooner or later.
Going forward, I would suggest that you explore apps like Lightroom and Aperture which make the Raw processing - and many other - element of Photoshop redundant. While iPhoto uses the same processing engine as Aperture it has less fine control. Photoshop for the photographer is on the way out. It's too expensive, most of its features are aimed at graphic artists rather than shooters. The future for Photographers is apps like Aperture, Lightroom with something like Elements for the odd touchups that these apps can't manage.

  • Any easy way to remove files copied to second drive on import that were later deleted from catalog?

If I do an import from my memory card, choose my external hard drive as a second location for the import, and then go into my catalog and delete the bad photos, is there any quick way to also remove those files from the backup on the external hard drive? I've got a ton of wasted space on my external HD due to things that I've deleted and don't know of any simple way to get rid of them short of formatting the drive and doing another export, which takes a long time and isn't something I want to do all that often. Thanks for your help.

I'm afraid there is no easy way to do that. The problem is that in using the "make second copy" option as your prime image backup, you're not using the function in quite the way the developers intended. Their purpose was to provide a method to take an immediate extra copy of the contents of the memory card, thus allowing you you reuse that memory card before your "regular" backup routine has been run. So yes, they have assumed that you would have a separate backup procedure for your image files, which allows for two things:
    1. That separate backup process could use an incremental backup utility, which means after the very first run all subsequent runs would backup only new or changed files....and you could also set it to delete from the backup any files you cull from the Lightroom library. Thus your backup wouldn't take up any more space than your originals.
    2. Once you've run the backup utility (after first cull so the duds never even get backed up?), the "second copy" can be deleted at your leisure.

  • Any easy way to remove floating ads after they appear (i.e., not preventing them)?

Generally ads on web pages don't bother me. So I don't feel strongly to use ad-blocking software to prevent any or all kinds of ads. But I do mind ads that float on web pages because they often block the view.
Although some floating ads allow the user to close them, more pop-ups, or other types of nuisance, may appear after they are closed.
So, Is there any easy way (an add-on, perhaps) to remove the floating ads after they appear, and prevent them from generating more ads or showing themselves again when the page is reloaded?
Maybe something like "CTRL + Alt + left click" applied on the floating ads?
I don't want to disable scripts and Flash.

There are add-ons that do this, but they haven't been updated in a long time, so they might have problems.

I'd sooner recommend Adblock Plus, used as follows:

    # Click the Adblock Plus toolbar icon and choose Filter Preferences.
    # On the Filter Subscriptions tab, right-click each subscription and choose Delete. Now Adblock Plus isn't blocking anything.
    # Install Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus.
    # Now when you want to hide something on a web page, click the Adblock Plus toolbar icon and choose "Select an element to hide".
    # If the web page preview looks acceptable, click the Add Element Hiding Rule button. For advanced usage, see the following pages.

  • Is there an easy way to remove entries from my site?

I am running out of iDick space. I don't want/need to purchase more. I would like to remove some older entries from my site. Is there an easier way than cut and pasting? I want to save then on my computer, for posterity?

    Hi Sharon!
Wow, you must have a very extensive site to be running out of iDisk space! First of all, are you sure you haven't got some unutilized iDisk space sitting around....maybe reserved for email or something? You can change the allocation between iDisk space and Email storage in your .Mac account settings page. Let me know if you need help on doing this...
If you really are running out of space, I can't think of a good way for you to back up a portion of your site locally and only publish the recent entries to your iDisk. As you already know, iWeb loves to publish it all...all the time! Maybe it's time to bit the bullet and just start a new site for your new entries going forward. Before you start the new site, you can backup a read only version of your website to a CD or something by using "Publish to Folder". Then once you are sure you have the working website locally, you can delete the site from iWeb once and for all and then start your new site.
I know it's probably not ideal, but it's a suggestion. You can always "Publish to Folder" and save the resulting folder as a fully functional website to a CD. Keep in mind that if you use any .Mac-only features (like counters, comments, search, slideshows, etc) these features will not be functional on a "Publish to Folder" site.
If you have found any of this information to be useful to you, please take the time to provide me with feedback by marking my reply as "solved" or "helpful" using those little buttons that you see in the title bar of this reply. I'd really appreciate it!

We have a document that a former employee created and password protected.  He left without revealing the password to anyone and now we need to make changes to the form.  Is there a way to remove the security?

    Hello Kelly,
if you can't negotiate a private agreement, there is no possibility to recover this document. Then the only way is, that you copy the contents or create a new one according to your wishes.
