Easy Way To Track Statistics in iWeb '08?

I'm just wondering who has the easiest way to track stats of an iWeb '08 page. Any help you may have to offer would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

Analytics and other solutions require that you change the html code after you published your webpage either to a folder or .Mac. That sounds more complicated than it is.
You could use for example this [Automator extension|http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/automator/addgoogleanalyticsact ion.html] to add your Analytics code to your webpage. If you update your website on a regular basis, it will ease your workflow.

  • Easier way to rearrange photos in iWeb?

    Hello
I am running 10.4.6 and iWeb 1.1.1 on a PowerBook 1.5Ghz with 1GB of RAM.
OK, when I click a bunch of photos in iPhoto and send them to an iWeb photo page, like everyone else, the photos are completely out of order when the iWeb page opens up. Fine. I start to manually rearrange them.
However - this is a VERY tedious process when you have 60+ photos, and they wind up in nearly reversed order. My process goes something like this:
Scroll to bottom of page. Select photo (left click). Drag (while left-clicking) photo up the page.
Here is where the tedium/problem comes in: I can only see 2 or 3 rows (of 2 each!) of photos at a time - and the page will not auto-scroll while I am clicking and dragging!!
So - I wind up dragging the photo up one or two whole rows. Release the mouse button. Use the scroll wheel to scroll down two rows. Repeat process until photo is in the top row.
Needless to say, this is very time-consuming and I'm going to develop arthritic fingers if I have to do this for 99 photos on each page. I seem to remember at one point (I can't remember if it was iWeb or Homepage - I think it was iWeb) that all I had to do was click and drag the photo to the extreme top of the window (or was it the screen?) and the page would auto-scroll. Then all I had to do was release the mouse button wherever I wanted the photo to go. iWeb doesn't do that any more (at least not that I can tell).
Is there an easier way to do this?
    TIA
    Richard

Hmm, ok, I haven't tried that. Thanks for the idea.
I just wish they hadn't turned off the "auto-scroll" type feature. Creating an album is an extra set of steps now - I like things as easy as possible (which is why I use a Mac...)

Hi. The two user tips both describe a sequence of steps that should get your library from the point where it threatens to wipe data from your device to where it is syncing normally, while recovering as much information as possible. It may still be necessary to wipe and reload the device but this should only take place once all the data that can be recovered has been recovered.
Doing step 1 of 8 and then complaining things aren't the way you want them to be yet strikes me as premature...
Since you appear to have all your media content, and we are discussing an iPod classic, not an iOS device, the main worries are already taken care of. What's left is ratings, playcounts, playlist membership and checked status. Since your device holds only part of your library at best you could only recover the missing data for the content that is on the device using third party tools.
Recreating the previous checked/unchecked status of every track in your library from where you are now may not be that easy. Syncing with selected playlists has many advantages, one of which would have been that you would have a named playlist that could have been retrieved by 3rd party software if you had used this method.
You haven't explained what caused your problem in the first place, but if you have a Previous iTunes Libraries folder holding old copies of your iTunes database (generated with each iTunes update) then it would be possible to restore the most recent of these and then update the library with any changes in your media folder.
BTW Apple doesn't offer free support for this kind of issue with iTunes.

  • Is there an easy way to eliminate duplicate tracks from iTunes on a mac?

All of a sudden I have over 6,500 duplicate tracks in my iTunes.  Not entire albums but many tracks from an album are duplicated.  Is there an easy way to get rid of these tracks or do I have to do this one by one?  Also why would this be happening? I have "Keep iTunes Media Organized" checked as well as "Copy files to iTunes when adding to library".

It is hard to say why.  iTunes is unlikely to do this all its own and there is probably something you did like add a folder that is not part of the current media collection thinking it needed adding, but it had already been added in the past.
There is no simple, universal panacea for duplicates.  You can try some of the suggestions below.
How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2905
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/itinfo/dupin.php (commercial)
Posts by turingtest2 about different types of duplicates and techniques- https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3555601 and https://discussions.apple.com/message/16042406 (Note: The DeDuper script is for Windows)
Frankly, I would do it manually.  As you can see from turingtest2's post, some duplicates are not really duplicates and I would rather do it manually than discover that a script had removed my only copy of a file (yes, I have backups but I may not notice for a year or so a file is no longer there, by which time I would have overwritten the backup because I do not have drive space for storing a year's worth of weeky iTunes backups tens of GB in size).
I would also review how you add media to iTunes.  It should not be producing all that many duplicates.

  • Is ther an "easy way" to rename my iweb pages?

    Here is my dilema
I have a iweb site hosted on go daddy so I have to update via an FTP which as you know each time to re-publish to your folder it creates a new time stamp and MOST ftp clients then reupload the entire site...
Well I fould this prorgram called "webecho" thanks to James Steng
and I "finally" figured out that indeed it works just like updating to .mac change 1 image on 1 page >publish to folder> update and it only uploads that one image cool huh?
Here is the drawback you can't have any spaces in your page names so instead of a page called "About Me" you have to name it "AboutMe" (no space between "about & Me" which of course looks foolish in your navigation pane
    So my question is this
Is ther an "easy way" to name your pages wihtout spaces ~BUT~ still have spaces in the navigation pane?
    Thanks in advance!
    and
Happy New Yerar to all the great folks in this group!
    Jim

This gets very convoluted very quickly, but there actually is a way to eliminate spaces in your filenames and keep the spaces in the navigation menu...
There is another handy utility called "iWeb FTP Utility" that is available here:
    http://www.brokenropesoftware.com/iWebFTPUtility
This is a command line tool that will strip out the spaces in your filenames AND alter the HTML references to these files to reflect the new "spaceless" names. There's no easier way of doing this.
    So your workflow then becomes:
    1. Design and "Publish to Folder" with iWeb
    2. Run iWeb FTP utility against the published sitefolder
    3. Upload to your server with WebEcho or similar FTP.
Since iWeb FTP Utility only changes the filenames and references after publishing, the navigation menu images never get touched and will still display the names with spaces!

  • Is there an easier way to adjust volumes of tracks?

Easier than making control points with the automator? What I would like to do, if possible, is to adjust the volume with the slider as it plays. I can already do this while I am just listening to it, but I can not find a way to have it record or save my adjustments.
Basically I would like to automate the automator. If it could create a control point every second or so based on where the slider is which I am controlling with my mouse as the song plays, or something like that, that would be perfect.
I once created a little song like this by playing the song and adjusting the volume of a couple tracks as it played, while using audacity or something to record my song. I was hoping there was an easier way.

I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates. See this  thread for background.

  • Is there an easy way to reimport all songs in my itunes folder?

This may sound like a weird question but here goes... When I bring up my iTunes I have 8731 files (mostly music) that come to about 41.33G's but when I right click on my iTunes Music folder and select properties there are 8809 files and a total of 48.5G's. I am trying to free up some disk space and can't figure out why there is such a difference. I had issues with Norton 360 and removed it but I had to restore my music files from an external drive and when I did so I lost the links for music that I added after my last back-up. I noticed that TV shows I bought from Apple were not in my iTunes but I was able to locate them in the folder, and import them back into iTunes. I have a feeling there are music files in my folders that are not linked to iTunes but can't figure out how to import them without going through all 8800+ files. Is there an easy way to import all the files without losing the current playcounts or a way to figure out which files may be duplicated in my iTunes Music folder. Seems like I am wasting 7G somewhere that I would like to recover. I already went through the duplicate songs and that didn't help. Any suggestions would be great...

AFIK there isn't an easy way of linking up to a lot of dead tracks and retaining play counts etc, except by finding the dead tracks and repairing each link individually. The only exception to this is if there is a simple error in the path that can be fixed by a search and replace on the xml library file, then rebuilding the library. However it doesn't sound as though that would be a solution for you.
This MacMuse tip has a way of finding dead tracks if that helps.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=121967
It is much simpler to sacrifice the playcount information and just reimport your iTunes Music folder. Then you can eliminate the dead tracks with a script. One of the forum members has written one that you can find here:

  • I am looking to "move out" of my computer and into my wife's, is there an easy way to accomplish this task, keeping all my files and setting up a second user?

I just bought a new external 3TB hard drive for this task and want to keep my items seperate from hers for both our sanity.
I figured that I would do a time machine back up and use that to do the move part of things.
But as to setting up the new user on her computer I am just not sure if I can "tell" the computer to only use the new drive for my stuff and only acces the new drive for all things related to that new profile.
More then anything else I want to be able to say that all things that are hers have not been touched/acccesed/deleted by any of my actions. And that I am "confined" to the new drive.
    I hope this makes sence.

is there an EASY way to submit podcasts to the itunes store? i've tried creating podcasts in garageband, then somewhere after wordpress  itunes  doesn't recognize the feed.
my process has been (i am open to suggestions for other free and EASY services/methods):
garageband : create & edit audio. add 1400x1400 image.
    share to itunes.
    drag file to desktop.
upload .m4a file to google drive.
create a link post in wordpress using "podcast" tag & create "podcast" category.
click on "entries rss" in wordpress, which takes me to the rss subscribe page (which is basically just my wordpress address with "/feed" at the end.
    i copy this url.
go to itunes store > then "submit a podcast"
itunes gives me the error message "we had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed."
when i try to subscribe to my podcast in itunes, it does, but gives me no episodes available.
i went back into wordpress and changed settings/ reading settings to : "full text" from "summary"
    still the same error message.
i added a feedburner step after wordpress but got the same errors. i don't think i should have to add feedburner.
wordpress seems to be encapsulating the rss, what am i doing wrong?
this so much easier when you could go directly from garage band to iweb to mobileme; i miss those apple days (also idisk).

if anyone has a super EASY process, i would LOVE to know what it is. EASY, meaning no html and also free. there are many free online storage systems available, many of which i currently use. the above process was just me trying to figure it out, if you have an easier method, please share. thank you so much!

  • Easy way to add more audiotracks??? + Environment midi/audio question???

    Hi!
Let's say, when I open a new project I have standard 24 audio tracks.
But when recording I see that I will need more, is there an easy and fast way to add more tracks?
As I see it now, I Have to run the Logic Setup Assistent, add more tracks (let's say 40). Reopen the project, go in the environment, create a new audio object for every track I want to add, double click it and assign the correct track to 'channel'. If I need to add 10 more tracks I have to go over these last steps 10 times. Am I missing some handy quick trick here?
Also, the second part of my question:
when I open the environment window, sometimes it only shows "midi" and the "GS instrument drum mapped" and some other times it shows "audio" and an "overview of my mixer". This seems to happen at random and I don't know why. The mixer view is what I want (especially when I need to add tracks as mentioned before), but when I get the midi view I don't know what to do to get the audio/mixer view. Any help?

    Ok,
There is a way so you wont have to do the 10 setups.
Run the Setup Assistant and when it asks how many
audio tracks you want, always tell it more than you
will possibly need. I use 101. I know I will probably
never use that many but they are already and waiting
in case I do need more. This way you dont have to do
anything except go to the track menu and select create
new or double click the arear below the last
track and what ever track is highlighted, a exact duplicate
will appear. Then you just click and hold on it to make it
whatever kind of track you need from the menu that appears.
This first answer takes care of the second question. Since you
dont need to go into the enviroment to hook up new tracks.
Just so you know if you click and hold on the name of the layer
Midi, instruments, clicks and ports or whatever another menu
will appear letting you choose what layer you want to go to.
    This is the easy way!

  • Has to be an easier way? Rules, playlists

    1) is there any way to copy a smart playlist to another playlist folder and 2) is there no way to create an "or" rule? It seems the "and" operator is the only choice. Why not "Genre contains Rock OR Blues"?
If you have 15 genre's and want a smart playlist that contains only Rock and Blues, the only way is to do 13 "does not contain" rules? And then there is no way to copy this rule to another folder?
There has to be an easier way.

"Playlist is whatever " has been there for years, actually. Here is my most recent playlist I got from another site. It's called Fresh Mix:
It's a playlist to give you a mix of your new tracks, favourite tracks, and stuff you like but haven't listened to for a while, and it will automatically refresh as you listen to music in iTunes or on your iPod.
You'll actually need 4 smart playlists to start, and you need to be rating your music with star ratings as well. CHange the days and limits for your listening habits and iPod capacity.
    1. in iTunes create a new smart playlist and call it 'Not Recent'. Select match 'ALL' of the following rules. For first condition set 'Last Played' 'is not in the last' '2 days'. New criteria (click the plus sign), Playlist is Music to make sure no podcasts, audiobooks Movies, etc go into it. 'Limit to 600 Mb selected by least recently played. Select match checked songs, and Live Updating.
    2. New smart playlist 'Not Recent and Rated'. Set match all conditions. First criteria, 'rating' 'is in range ** to ***'. (or whatever rating system makes sense to you). New criteria (click the plus sign), 'Last played' 'is not in the last' '2 days'. Add Playlist is Music. Set 'Limit to 600 Mb selected by least recently played. Select match checked songs, and Live Updating.
    3. New smart playlist 'Recently Added'. Match 'all' of the following rules. Set 'Last played is not in the last 2 days. Add Playlist is Music. Limit to 600 Mb selected by *most recently added*. Select match checked songs, and live updating.
    4. New smart playlist 'Top Rated'. Match 'all' of the following rules. set 'Rating' 'is greater' than 2 stars. Add Playlist is Music. Set 'Last played' 'is not in the last' '2 days'. Limit to 1200 Mb by least recently played.
    5. New smart playlist 'Freshmix'. Match any of the following rules. Playlist is 'Not Recent' + Playlist is 'Not Recent and Rated' + Playlist is 'Recently Added' + Playlist is 'Top Rated'. Limit to 300 items selected by random.
So there you go! You now have a playlist that plays 20% old stuff, 20% old stuff you like/don't hate, 20% new stuff, and 40% favourites. Of course you can vary the star ratings to suit your own style, and the proportion of each category by changing the size in megabytes of each playlist (in theory).
If you want you can limit particular genres. If you want to listen to this playlist on the iPod whilst running, exclude classical music and spoken word tracks. To do this add a new condition in each of the 4 feeder lists, and for each condition set 'Genre' 'is not' 'Classical' (or Spoken, etc, and assuming you have all your music tagged like this...)

  • Is there an easy way to remove duplicates in my library?

Hi there, since I first started using my ipod, I've had a new laptop. Having finally figured out (with your help!) how to move the songs from my ipod to the library on my new laptop, I did the transfer but it's duplicated loads of the tracks.
Is there an easy way to remove them/stop that from happening?

My itunes library has duplicated all of my music and would take me hours to delete one by one. What is a quick easy way to delete over 2,500 duplicates?

Apple's official advice is here... HT2905: How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group of identical tracks to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. This can happen, for example, if you start iTunes with a disconnected external drive, then connect it, reimport from your media folder, then restart iTunes.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping, whether you do so by hand or using my script, in case something goes wrong.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed)

  • Is there an easier way to transfer your iTunes library on windows to a mac than copying the library to a usb and plugging the usb into the mac and put the library in the iTunes file

is there an easier way to transfer your iTunes library on windows to a mac than copying the library to a usb and plugging the usb into the mac and put the library in the iTunes file? I recently swapped to Mac and this is how i moved the library from windows to mac and library is in tact but is there an easier way? My cousin just imported her cd's again, but it was harder for me as i have an ipod with over 150 apps and i needed to move them. i think it would be helpful if i knew of an easier way so i can help a friend move his. Thanks

The general method of use is to download a script (double-click or right-click and use Download or Save As...) to a folder of your choice, e.g. your Desktop, Downloads folder or create a folder at ...\iTunes\Scripts. Select a playlist or highlight some tracks in iTunes and then double-click on the script to execute it. If no specific tracks are selected the script will try to work with all tracks in the current playlist or sometimes the entire library.
