EAX / 5.1 Surround / Dolby - is there anything for linux?!

Hi all.
I've had a 7.1 Hercules Digifire soundcard for a while now, and it was awesome on Windows for surround sound.
Being into my gaming, and just as into my films, I like using linux for both. The problem is, there seems to be absolutely no support whatsoever for EAX/5.1 surround/Dolby surround/ whatever for linux.
I've searched pretty extensively, but as far as I can tell there is NOTHING at all in the way of surround sound support for linux. Is this correct?
It's annoying having hardware sitting around wasting - if anyone can point me to somewhere helpful regarding linux surround, or give me any info, I'd be much obliged

Well, I have alsa running, and I do indeed have options for 'Surround' and some others in alsamixer - but they don't make any difference!
I'm not sure if it's my soundcard (I've had issues with microphone - it works, i.e. you can hear yourself in the speakers, but I can't actually record anything?? Set various things to 'Capture' etc, no luck), but seeing as all was well in Windows (while ago now, heh) I tend towards thinking it's a software problem.
Are there any special measures I have to take regarding Alsa and surround sound? I've just got the stock Arch Alsa install, haven't changed anything.
I'll go check the Wiki now. Is it just Creative cards that work? My Alsa module is cs46xx I think - Crystal Fusion. That's different to the Creative cards, right?

Is there flexmotion for linux?

I do not have the LabVIEW software for Linux yet but I was wondering if the Flexmotion that one uses in Windows is avaliable in the Linux version? I am going to try to use my NI-7344 that I presently have in a Windows system in a Linux system. I have found the unsupported Linux drivers for the NI-7344 but I did not know if there was any Flexmotion software. This would just make my life a bit easier. Thanks.

Flexmotion does not exist for Linux.
There is a Driver Development Kit to allow you to make a driver for any platform, and due to the nature of the 7344 it is actully relatively easy to use. Please call into our support line to get your hands on this DDK.

it has been a while since we have last spoke, I would like to let you know, I am still working on getting used to the switch from windows to a Mac/Apple system. I do have a new question for you, I did purchase In Design CS5.5 through journeyed.com through Cuyahoga Community College of which I attend as a student, is there a way to purchase an online book through iTunes to learn that as well? Also, you know me, the struggling student, I would also, when and if the book can be purchased through the iTunes, would need to know if you do know of a much easier book for struggling students like myself and at a reasonable price as well for the In Design CS5.5 program. Our campus bookstore had closed early, and, so did the colleges library and our local library here where I do live, so, I cannot go to either place to purchase a book or to take out a book, plus cash funds are low at this moment as well but, I do have money left on the iTunes account to use, if it can be used. So, can it be used, the iTunes money, towards finding a low priced online book? I am in great need of assistance as I have a project due for my one course for this Tuesday, September 4, 2012.

Anything for OS X like ShieldsUP?

For many of the years I had been using PCs running Windows, I was able to check the security of my firewall by using the Gibson Research on-line tool "ShieldsUP!". This tries to access various ports and reports whether any are visible, etc., to the outside world. (My combination of the firewall in my router and ZoneAlarm software firewall blocked all visibility outside.)
Is there anything for OS X like this?

If you are behind a router you do not need to worry. If no Router, make sure your firewall is on. Enable stealth mode.

Needless to say, one would expect water damage as a result of a washer to be extensive. That doesn't necessarily mean you have no chance of repair however. I've seen and heard of a couple of do-it-yourself fixes and, if none of those help, you can always try sending it for repair.
At home, I recommend trying...
Leave the iPod in a bowl of uncooked (raw) rice. Supposedly, the rice often absorbs the moisture in the surrounding area and, sometimes, from an electronic part. Leave it for at least 24-48 hours.
Leave the iPod in the sunlight for several hours. When doing this, make certain to avoid direct sunlight as it may damage the unit.
If all else fails, consider contacting a repair center. Local is better but, if you have to ship it, contact them and explain your situation before you invest in shipping costs.

You should remove his AppleID and restore it as new.

Even if it is a hardware problem they should fix it regardless of warranty. If you buy a car and after 1.5 years the doors fall off due to a failure in their design and construction, do you think the car manufacturer could pull off what Apple is trying to do? Yes the car still delivers its primary objective of driving from A to B, but significant functionality has been lost due to their fault.
It is the same with this iPhone wifi problem. Apple are a disgrace, I have had significant Apple Hardware failures with my MacBook Pro and iPhone within 2 years of purchase. Pathetic quality.

I would do another SMC reset. If nothing changes you should take the computer in to an Apple store for a free diagnostic. You should make an appointment.

I think you mean it's crashing or quitting unexpectedly.
Most likely due to third party Safari add ons. Follow the instructions for troubleshooting here > Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
If you can't resolve the issue, post a crash report so we can try and help you get Safari going again.
If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash information.
Copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply. If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.
