EAX Advanced EQ and a DVD-Audio Quest

Hi,
Has anyone noticed the following?
I've noticed that if I adjust low cutoff filter and high cutoff filter in the EAX Advanced EQ, they behave in the opposite way that I would expect from what they are named. Usually, A cutoff filter would cut off frequencies above or below the set frequency dependant on if it's a low or high cutoff filter. A low cutoff filter would cut off frequencies below the set frequency for example. However, If I set the Low Gain high enough so the effect is audible, and then raise the frequency of the low cutoff filter, I get a boost in bass, not less. In the same vein, I get less high frequencies if I set the frequency to 6KHz. If I set it to 4000Hz, then I get more high frequencices. This leads me to believe that these are actually low pass and high pass filters as that's how a high or low pass filter would behave. If I am incorrect and this is a software issue, please let me know and I'll try reinstalling the drivers.
Also, If I play a DVD-Audio Disc encoded at 92KHz, I get popping at the beginning of tracks and also if I manually advance to a track on the disc. Any advice is welcome and appreciated.
Thanks,
hselburn

Figured out my problem. Installing the drivers from the web to begin with was a bad idea. They just did not work properly with the card.
The "card not found" problem has gone as well, after installing it in another PC. I am also using the proper install disc now, as the other one I was using turned out to not be for the Audigy 2 value after all, but was an Audigy 2 install disc. That easily explains the "Card not found" error. The differing results from the ScanPCI program are still bizarre, though.
Thanks to all of the people on the forum who posted information in other threads to help me deal with this issue. For now I am sticking with the original drivers from the disc and I am not upgrading.

  • How to play dvd-audio or dvd-a discs on iMac?

How do I go about playing dvd-audio encoded discs on my iMac? I have been unsuccessful in finding a decoder that will recognize this format. I don't want to invest in ripper software unless I KNOW it will read and convert this format. Many thanks.

I can play my DVD Audio discs on my MacBook Pro. On all my DVD Audio discs it shows DVD Audio and Dolby Digital. When I insert a DVD Audio disc the DVD player opens and plays the disc. Rou will only get Dolby Digital sound quality though and not DVD Audio sound quality.

  • DVD-Audio and "can not detect sound blaster card" with Audigy2 Va

I recently purchased an "Audigy2 Value" card from an eBay user, because I recently purchased some DVD-Audio discs. I downloaded the Audigy2 drivers from the website, and the Creative MediaSource player. 5. Surround sound worked fine for me, though sometimes the driver would reset to the default 2/2. sound and I would have to re-select 5. sound, which was annoying.
Then I was completely unable to get the MediaSource player to recognise my DVD-Audio discs, and the EAX functionality of the player would never work. The EAX logo never appeared in the player. When I tried installing the MediaSource player from an install disc, I got the message "can not detect sound blaster card". Then I discovered the world of EEPROM problems.
I followed advice from some other threads, including using ScanPCI to get information on the card, which yielded the following result.
When installed on my machine (Asus A7A266 motherboard) the ScanPCI reads:

(Just a note: above you can clearly see that it does not say I have an Audigy, it thinks it is a SBLi've. Is this normal? The card IS an Audigy 2, it says so on the card.)
So, I put the card back on my own PC, thinking this has fixed my EEPROM, but I get the same as before. Subsystem ID 0002h. And of course the install software will not detect the card.
I realise that I could go back to using the web drivers, but this still leaves me with MediaSource not recognising the card and not enabling DVD-Audio or EAX, which is why I bought the card in the first place!
I have heard that the VIA chipset is possibly to blame for the EEPROM problems on the Audigy cards, and certainly it seems like it is not permanent, since it gave different information on the other PC. So now I am seriously considering getting a new motherboard.
Do other motherboards cause this same problem? I don't want to buy another board and get the same trouble. All I want is to be able to install my MediaSource and have it recognise my card so I can listen to my DVD-Audio discs.
    Cheers,
    Russ.

  • Dvd Audio playback is slow and with pops sou

Hi, i have just got a dvd audio (night at the opera from queen ) and i want to enjot the high quality of this fromat, but with creative media source dvd audio player there's a problem in playback, i can see the lists of the song, select it, but when it plays, there's a pop sound and it's in slow play, there's a second that it plays normal but then it causes the same problem.
i have test it with windvd v6 and gives the same problem.
by the way the sample dvd disc from creative, plays normal. really it's amazing that sound.
I have read many reviews about the copy protection issue, and i think that's the problem, i don't if anyone of you, have played the queen dvd audio?.
the version of the media source dvd audio player is .50.08.
Where can i dowload the latest version of the dvd audio player. i think the last one is .52.04, but i can't find in creative web site an upgrade for this version on the dvd audio media player.
my sound card is Audigy 2 zs internal sound card. and i have the latest drivers and aplicaciones from creative web site upgraded

    Hi,
I have the same problem since December 2011 with a similar Mainboard (Asus M4A78T-E).
    Did you resolve your problem?
    Thanks

  • So when can we expect official X-Fi CMSS and DVD audio drive

After this whole bad PR fiasco over modding drivers. When can we expect OFFICAL drivers from creative that support CMSS stereo surround effects and DVD audio in Vista?
Gi've me a timeframe because I feel like breaking my X-FI card into little pieces, digging it, and youtubing it. Or?I could just return it and get my money back. Haha.

Presumably the X-Fi 2 will bring it's own innovations.
EAX6 and higher quality parts for higher SNR responses, and Vista drivers.
We only have the MS certification that proves it, no tech specs of announcements of any kind yet.
If it really does bring something amazing then fine, but I can't see myself jumping for it. My Audigy has served me well and with Daniel_K drivers I've got as good as I'm going to get.
Onboard sound has come on leaps and bounds so after this card, I doubt I'll get another.
If the X-Fi 2 is based on the X-Fi I wonder how long it'll take for someone to edit them and use them with an X-Fi.
Meanwhile, us Audigians are still left out in the cold.

  • Hooked up hdmi to hdtv and get only audio and a "profiler" screen view; cannot play dvd on HDTV

Hooked up mini display port / HDMI to my TV and only get audio of DVD.  Do see original apple desktop image and image of selected  "window" display. cannot manipulate "window" menu. How do I get video and audion from DVD?

Funny things happen you are using an external display in mirroring mode. I generally avoid it. My preference is to set my MBP up to my monitor or HDTV with a wireless mouse and keyboard and use the laptop in lid shut mode.
If you've never done this, hook up a wireless mouse and keyboard and hook it up to your TV. Shut the lid of the MBP and after say 10 seconds hit the keyboard or wiggle the mouse. The laptop will now only be driving the external display so if you change your settings to that of the TV all should be good!

  • New drivers,dvd-audio player and console Audig

WOW, you guys look like you have taken your time and finished it properly!
Rather than use botched patches on patches etc! Congratulations!!!!! LOL.
All that is left to do is integrate the "Creative Surround Mixer" into the Console, and have that load at startup instead.
There is still a bit off different generational stuff mixed up on the graphics side.
Media source should be integrated into the DVD-Audio player now, most PC's should be able to cope with the extra overhead these days!

  • DVD audio and the DDTS--100

Whenever i play7 a dvd audio cd through vlc player, the DDTS-100 doesn't detect it's DTS.
Its the same with Power DVD, it doesn't detect DTS and so plays nothing.
What am i doing wrong? When i play it through vlc, i have to use ned 6 or pro logic II.
    Thanks

Not sure what you mean about disabling AC3. In audio controls i have set it to SPDIF.
DVD movies work fine in VLC and Power DVD.
Audio cd's that are encoded in DTS do not. They are not detected by the decoder, and doesn't set it to DTS like it does with movies that are encoded in DTS. (True DTS, not Pro-Logic II or NED:6).
I've set in the options of VLC, to use SPDIF where possible, only it doesn't show when playing them. I only get the option of changing from mono, stereo, front and rear, and 5.1. When selecting 5.1, it isn't right, some sounds aren't audiable. Stereo isnt either. This makes me believe that the software is doing the decoding, not the DDTS-100, which must be true, as i only get the options of PLII and NED:6 on the DDTS-100 box, instead of it lighting up as DTS, DTS-ES etc.
    So what do i do?
Winamp causes it to play white noise, as does Power DVD (which is set to SPDIF, evidenced by the fact it plays DTS movies fine) and WMP.
Do you need seperate DTS audio codecs for Power DVD? I heard this may be the case but you have to pay, seems odd that you need to purchase seperate drivers for dts audio cds, yet the movie plays ok.
    Cheers

I've been thru all the messages and found a few with the same problems I'm having but none of solutions worked. The first one

in my Epson Perfection 1670 scanner and I get "Unknow device". I don't have a front USB panel, just the rear ports and the D-Panel. I

Can anyone help me figure out why the setting in System Preferences and CDs & DVDs will always revert to Ignore when I set the drop-down menu to When you insert a music CD, to Open ITunes? I've tried iTunes Help and it told me exactly what I have been doing. I've even tried downloading iTunes again, to no avail. If anyone has had the same problem, please let me know. I would very much appreciate it.

In iTunes Preferences not system preferences under the General Tab there is a drop down in the lower part letting you specify what action to take when a CD is inserted

Four separate FX output ports was possible to use simultaenously by using ASIO w/ Audigy 2 card. I don't know if your card supports this ... and of course, this is possible to do with (certain) ASIO capable software only.
IIRC, in signal path, EAX is 'on output channel' so, it can't be routed/controlled as you could do with VST/DX effects (which are the software version of DSP) meaning (simplified diagram):
Using HW DSP (EAX) : playback software output + eax presets (=commands for DSP) -> HW DSP (process FX)-> Output.
using SW DSP (VST/DX) : playbacksoftwre + SW DSP (=VST/DX processing) -> HW DSP -> Output.
These software effects are better in quality compared to HW (EAX) effects processed on Audigy DSP so, I suggest you to use Hardware EAX effects for games and software (VST/DX/software dependent/...) effects for audio playback. Players like
Winamp (VST/DX/software specific: Electri-Q, Ozone, etc.),
    Foobar (VST/DX/sw specific plug-ins),
MedaMonkey (Winamp DSP plugins works mostly well w/ MediaMonkey),
J.Ri'ver Media Center (VST support, etc.),
    MyMP3PRO 5.0 (VST support), etc.
Windows Media Player (sw specific plug-ins, DX?)?
supports various type of effects either nati'vely or through special plugins. DX and VST effects can be found through KVR database.

  • Audigy 2 Value and SPDIF in audio problems

I have an Audigy 2 Value card and a Sony HD6600DP Home Theater System w/ Sony DVP-NC665P dvd player. I also just received my digital I/O module(4 week back order). I have the dvd player audio out to the dvd audio in on the amp. (rca digital in). Next, optical out (the only digital out on the amp is the MD/TAPE connection) to the SPDIF IN optical on the module. Then, in Creative Audio Console I have these options enabled/checked:
    Decoder- SPDIF Passthrough
SPDIF - Digital Output - 48khz, SPDIF - is turned off and set to default
Bit Accurate - On this tab, I have both options turned off presently. In the center of the box shows the current SPDIF In signal. Trying to play dvd audio disc or dvd movie shows unknown or invalid signal. Playing an audio cd through the dvd player shows the 6bit 44.khz audio(also that sound comes through).
    Speakers - 5.
EAX and CMSS are turned off.
As stated earlier, I do get cd audio from the dvd player and the SPDIF connection, but no dvd audio comes throught the same connection. Also, I can get a 48khz audio signal out to the amp, but no AC-3 or other digital surround out. I guess my question is with the Audigy 2 Value, can I have a digital audio signal coming in via the SPDIF

well for giggles i took my card out and used the onboard sound to see it there was any difference.
the onboard is AC97 realtek. the shotgun and quake4 sounds were much better. all the sounds were there but of course it did not sound as rich as audigy does.
so my experiment showed that it is a driver problem. i am guessing no one else has had this problem.

  • SB Live 24.bit EAX ADVANCE HD, upto 96KHz

I just installed SB Li've 24 bit and it sounds better than 6 bit version.
But I wonder why Creative print on the box that it support "Realistic EAX ADVANCE HD" while a test with "Rightmark 3D Sound" showing EAX4 Advanced HD is not available. It can only support upto EAX3. Is this a marketing cheat ?
I also saw Cirrus Logic CS4382 8-channel DAC used in this Li've 24Bit that actually support upto 92KHz sampling rates but Creative limit the speed to only 96KHz. This is quite a pity, hopefully the upgrade version of driver could enable 92KHz and also the EAX4 features in the future. Competitors like Chaintech, M-Audio has started to sell low cost 24bit/92KHz like AV70 for quite sometime, Creative should not be too far behind...

    Santoch,
EAX Advanced HD = EAX 3 (The EAX that was with the original Audigy card).
EAX 4 Cards usually state that they are EAX 4.0 Advanced HD, unless they were later upgraded using a driver patch like the Audigy 2 and 2 ZS. The Li've! 24bit is capable of EAX Advanced HD.

  • DVD-Audio Player Update 2.00.75 won't inst

    Hi All,
I have and Audigy 2 ZS Notebook card.
I've installed the latest drivers (version 02.08.0004) today, and noticed the release notes states you should also install the DVD-Audio Player Update 2.00.75.
So, being a disciplined customer, that's exactly what i tried to do.
However, no matter how many times i've tried it, i can't seem to finish the installation of the DVD-Audio Player Update - somewhere during the installation i get the blue screen of death and the system reboots.
Needless to say, i've turned off all anti-virus, firewall etc.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance, adam.

    Hi, Eck.
Nope, no 9x in here, XP pro SP2, all updates etc.
I've tried launching the DVD-Audio player as it is now (meaning after the installation crashed) and surprisingly (not) it won't launch (yet another crash, the application only this time, didn't take the whole system with it).
Another thing that might be related - Creti've system information can't seem to finish it's information gathering as well (crash).
And perhaps most annoying, it's all done on a fresh installtion of the card (completely re-installed it including registry cleaning etc.).
    Thanks again.
