EAX and CMSS-3D Through Optical TO Headphone Dac / Amp

I would like to have EAX and CMSS-3D to my external DAC / Headphone amp through optical toslink for my headphones. Is this possible?

/ Works for me and my Audigy 2 (when CMSS is actually working that is).
The thing with your digital out is that unless you're using something like the Dolby or DTS realtime encoder, it can only send out a stereo PCM signal, which is of course fine for headphones.

• Xbox 360 X-Fi Distortion AND Lag problems through OPTICAL cable

I was wondering when there will be a fix or whatever because some of this is makeing me cringe in my chair... I?ordered optical to get better sounding games and Movies through the 5. support but the sound lags for about .2-.4 of a second causeing?sound to?not sync(echoes with RCA plugged in too, RCA being the one that plays sound FIRST!)?and the distortion is with LOUD sounds with something like an explosion causeing crackling and popping too. When will Creative fix this? i payed 300 dollars for this soundcard 6-7 months ago and they still have not fixed this issue which apparently has been there from the start of the xbox 360 launch. Also happens with the Xbox. Why even have something like an OPTICAL input if it doesn't work correctly. i would like to know a fix for this PLEASE!Message Edited by Assassinxkilla on 0-6-20070: PM

I definitely feel your pain. I have a Audigy 2 ZS and when connected with a PS3 or HDTV, the sound LAGS like half to one second. I've learned to deal with it at least for action games like Call of Duty 4 because even lagging surround gives an advantage over stereo. But it's annoying for TV or other stuff.
I've seen threads like this in alot of places. I just think Creative has some sloppy hardware that lags. It shouldn't be my computer because I've got a dual core with 2 GB RAM.
I shoulda just bought a Logitech Z-5500. That speaker system costs 200-250 but it has it's own digital decoder. You can plug in an optical or coax digital signal into the volume control and it will decode on its own without a sound card. Instead I bought a 20 dollar Logitech setup and a 00 dollar sound card (about three years ago).
If anyone ever finds a solution, I'd be glad to hear about it.Message Edited by phatfatpanda on 03-04-20082:22 PM

• Is there a way to play video through HDMI and have the audio via the headphone socket?

I would like to be able to play movies through the HDMI adapter to a projector, but to have the audio via the headphone socket to a separate audio system. What I find is that as soon as I connect the projector via HDMI, the audio via the headphone sockeet is cut off. Any ideas?

Yes, there is a very simple way to get audio out through the iPad headphone jack even while connected to HDMI to play movies on a projector or TV. In fact, I just did it last night for a presentation.
With the HDMI adapter connected to the projector and your audio jack plugged into your iPad headphone jack, go ahead and start the movie. Then simply unplug the headphone jack and plug it back in. The audio is now routed through the headphone jack again.
I found I only had to do this once per session. That is, Iwas able to stop the movie, go to the beginning of my presentation, wait the 20 minutes for the meeting to begin, and when I got to the video clip the audio still played out through the headphone jack to the PA system.
I had built a presentation in a Web oriented training tool and it was running on Safari iOS7 with the latest update. I have not tried it with Keynote yet.

• OSS, vmix and AC3 pass through

I've been battling OSS for a few weeks now.
I have an ALC889 motherboard chip, and oss-mercurial 4.1-3 package (from AUR installed).
- Vmix works fine, goes through my optical jack out to my receiver, most apps and sounds play through fine, except for mkv, dvd, and any other file with an ac3/dts stream, no passthrough is done. All i get is the static/white noise on both headphones and my DD-ready receiver
- Turning off vmix allows ac3/dts to passthrough to the receiver, with headphones still getting the white noise.
I can live with this if this is the only way to get it to work, but I'm wondering if it's at all possible to get AC3/DTS passthrough working with OSS4 *with* vmix working. Now i know that you cant play digital passthrough at the same time as a regular pcm/mp3 file, and i make sure i have shut off all other audio apps while playing an ac3 file, but it seems kind of a pain in the ass.
On my old nforce motherboard, which uses the nvidia soundstorm (based on OSS), the digital out always works, with ac3/dts passthrough and regular apps sharing the mixer nicely.
So basically I'm wondering is anyone else has OSS working with AC3 passthrough while using vmix, or if you are also having to go through this "turn vmix off, play ac3, turn vmix back on to go back to normal".
the only reason i dont leave vmix off is because skype-oss only works with vmix enabled on my system, so I have to always go through the process of turning vmix on/off, closing all sound apps, restart OSS, use the app I want, and turn vmix on/off again, and restart OSS again.
I'm not interested in "try alsa" solutions because that has its own can of worms for me that I'd rather avoid.
Using the latest kernel, oss-mercurial, sound otherwise works fine for all apps, it's just the ac3 passthrough that i'm trying to get to work in vmix.

thank you, but i have one other problem:
the li've 24bit has got a combined line in / sp-dif port? how can i change from line in to sp-dif?
thx

• Can anyone help me get the onboard 5.1 working through optical?

990FXA-GD80
Windows 8.1
Pioneer XV DV55 (connected via optical to motherboard)
If I go to Control Panel/Sound I have the Realtek Digital Output (Optical) selected and when I go into the properties of that device I can highlight Dolby Digital, hit the test button and I do get the test sound in all of the 5.1 speakers BUT in game (BF4 and BF3) or anywhere else I can't get the surround to work, everything is just 2 channel?

Yep have tried all settings in game, receiver just dosen't seem to pick it up.
Ok, I had just forgot to check those the other day with my surround headphones, that's why I asked, lol.
I did some digging around, apparently you are not the only one with this issue. Seems Realtek might sort of be your culprit. I didn't fully get everything I read, but the long and short of it is that DVD/Movies etc are coded 5.1 and simply pass through the optical...while the game's surround need to be generated...and it is, but only through the analog outs...not the digital. Confused yet?
Quote
Correct, and this is normal. Movies/DVD's are already encoded in Dolby Digital or DTS formats, which can be carried over SPDIF. Games however, use uncompressed audio, and an uncompressed 5.1 audio signal can NOT be carried over a SPDIF connection, so you get 2.0 instead.
The only way to solve this problem is to get a soundcard that can handle real-time encoding to either Dolby Digital or DTS. [A cheap option is the ASUS Xonar DX [Dolby Support only] or the HT Omega Striker, both going for about $80 or so]

Question: Do you have an ATI card? I wonder if you ran your sound out of it via HDMI if that might work? Depends on your receiver really, my receiver takes the audio and video in via HDMI then spits it out to my TV. (That way I can plug multiple devices into it.) If you have an ATI card and a receiver like mine you could probably pull it off, otherwise you will need a better sound card.

• Front and Rear Audio Through only one Socket - Sound Blaster Live! 24

PLEASE HELP ?

I'm getting Front and Rear Audio through the front speakers (Front Socket), and nothing out of the back.
All cables are set up correctly; I have reinstalled drivers, updated drivers etc. and the software.
What?s going on ? :S

I'll answer you here, as I believe it may be helpful to other users as well... You will need to download the latest drivers for Li've! 24-bit under Vista, which are available [url="http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?MainCategory=&nRegionFK=&nCountryFK=& nLanguageFK=&sOSName=Windows+Vista+32-bit&region=&Product_Name=Li've%2+24-bit&Product_ID=035&modelnumber=&driverlang=033&OS= 26&drivertype=0&x=29&y=0">here[/url]. These add AudioConsole, which allows you to select CMSS options for your soundcard.

On Windows XP this was never the case, for surround sound I would leave it in Dolby mode.
This is indeed strange... In ProLogic mode, as I already said, it'sproduces?surround sound from the 2 front channels but this is not the same as discrete sound, which is eventually 6-channel analog or Dolby Digital. It really all depends on the content you are playing. Also note, that a lot of the Dolby movies available on the web, may use AC-3 format, but may still be stereo only. On this content ProLogig will produce nice surround sound. (Media Player Classic states clearly how many channels are actually available)? If you however playback a true 6-channel AC-3 movie and you have ProLogic enabled, you will most probably not hear any dialogue, or just its echoe... (Assuming that you leave the AC-3 decoding to happen on the soundcard, which will then send the signal through the 6 analog channels)? How is your soundcard connected to the receiver? SPDIF/Optical or only analog??

• EAX and Win back confidence

I am hoping that Creative can built their next generation X-Fi into the speakers , home entertainment system and so on one day instead of solely dependant on the PC. It should also make use of Zii to make up on the shortfalls of X-Fi to process very complex and very intensi've?audio environment. Continue their developments on EAX and OpenAL?which is important for developers.
Microsoft ditch DirectSound and DirectSound3D but developers still works on EAX through OpenAL.
Developers still use EAX as a de-facto standard and PC audio industry called this SoundBlaster compatibility. Creative has responsibility to ensure that all their SoundBlaster works and provide great EAX supports whenever. They should constantly review their drivers, their software release to provide greater supports. It's a responsibility which brings trust, quality and continue reliability.
This can win back their lost market share and win back confidence.
While Creative create the next generation EAX standard and sound blaster, they should explain what type of engineering was created which was so distinctly different from before?and be proud to explain these merits to all. Creative?can raise the bar of the industry with next generation EAX and audio solutions. It should be using?superior and specialise hardware to deli'ver that and not any software or processor based. (too bloated)
Creative marketing needs to be somehow?more technical to?market its products.
Creative sale needs to?be more open and?understand?market needs.
Creative support?needs to?be responsi've to market needs and changes as the sale face tough market competitions....

Creative should quickly move towards computational audio... compute audio in various ways...
e.g. understand difficult audio environment... like multiple layers of sound...
Distinguish environment, distinguish?emotions like?fear, danger, happy and?sad...
Have useful features like voice translation, voice to words translation... languages translation...
Perhaps this? might requires a very comprehensi've audio?database?and?also algorithm.
Creative should?use its expertise to continue it's development on audio and reinvent the audio architecture and interaction architecture.
This?could be?a reality in times to come...
It could change the audio landscape as it's currently very dull.

• Can't hear menu effect (click sounds) through Optical cable

After connecting my Apple TV to my receiver through Optical I've noticed that I can no longer hear the Apple TV's menu sounds (click sounds) anymore unless I scroll through a menu real fast.
Is there anyway to fix this?

As far as I can tell, the M-Audio Keystation 61es does not have any form of on board sound generation. So whatever you heard in Garageband was synthesized by GB. In the same way you'll have to set up a virtual instrument in Logic to generate the sound.
Apart from that, it sounds like you are not really aware of the difference between Midi controller data and audio data, or at least the way they are routed. The midi controller has no way to send audio to logic through a midi connection. If it had on-board sounds, you'd have to route the audio explicitly to logic using an audio interface or in rare cases using audio over the USB connection that also does midi. In any case, you'd have to route the sound manually. The external instrument plugin in logic allows you to do that easily. But again, I don't think that applies to your situation.
Cheers,
Jazz

• Surround Sound through optical on MacBook Pro 2011

So I've got this brand new MacBook Pro connected to my 5.1 surround sound home theatre system through optical, and I can only seem to get stereo sound out of it. I go through the Audio MIDI Setup and it always only shows 2 speakers and when I open up Left 4 Dead 2 it also only shows 2 speakers, any ideas on how I can get the surround sound working, I've been searching for awhile and haven't found anything, thanks?

Stereo has 2 channels, 5.1 surround sound has six channels total.
The Mac passes 5.1 through the optical cable/port.
The audio has to have a 5.1 encoding of some sort, Dolby, Logic etc.,
Your receiver has to be set to decode the 5.1 format being sent to it.
You can test this with a DVD that has extra sound capabilities in the audio menu, then match the encoding on the receiver.
Some 3D games provide surround sound on a Mac, but usually it's to a PC sound card that handles the processing. Since Mac doesn't do that, it just passes the surround sound through, the surround sound must be in a encoding format your receiver can understand.
Some good receivers can take Stereo 2 channel and separate out some of the frequencies and send them to the appropriate speaker, like the sub woofer and mid range. Then take the left and right channels and duplicate them for the front and rear left and right channels to fill a room with sound. However this isn't true surround sound as you won't hear objects moving up behind you or flying past over your head like in a good movie or video game with true surround sound abilities.
Your lucky I was here, not many people mess with surround sound on a Mac, or really don't even know it's there.
But it's really worth the effort, even iTunes music sounds great. A iPod sounds like crap in comparison.

• My ipod audio only coming through the right headphone whats wrong?, My ipod audio only coming through the right headphone whats wrong?

Ive tried with mulitple headphones but my audio on my ipod is only coming through the right headphone. Whats wrong with my ipod? WIll I need to purchase another one?

I don't know if this is a common issue: I bought an iphone from someone and notice that only the plug design of the stereo headphone that comes with it fits in its receptacle. I tried others that are generally for the same size but they can't go deep enough in the receptacle thus can't get any audio. One thing I noticed is that this iphone's receptacle is deeper in the device than usual, so any other plugs other than the one provided can't fit. I can't use my external speakers with it!!! I fail to understand this. All all iphones like this or is it a defect particular to mine? After all, my ipod touch doesn't have this issue! If anybody knows, please tell me.

• I cannot hear sound through my iMac Headphone port,

I cannot hear sound through my iMac Headphone port, this is a very new computer. I can hear sound through the usb port of the device. How can this be fixed? Headphones are selected as an Output device.
Please help in any way possible, it is becoming quite a concern as it was just working a matter of hours ago.

usb does not carry audio at all it's a serial digital bus
things one connect to usb which play audio act the role of being usb audio cards only 1 audio card can be active at the time so if you connect an usb audio card the internal audio card is muted
this cause your headset to be muted
disconnect the usb audio card and you will be able to use your headset
if you wish to use a headset an an usb audio card at the same time the headset needs to be connected to the usb audio card

• Can not activate EAX and SVM Support in Media Source Organizer with Audigy2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please there must be somebody out there able to me!Ive got an Audigy2 SB0240 (driver: SBAX_WBUP2_LB_2_09_006.exe)? and Media Source (CMS_PCAPP_LB_3_30_2.exe) Windows XP Pro SP2So after the CORRECT Installation and?Updates to the actuall securely workable Versions by Creative Auto Update the Media Source Player/Organizerit is not able to let me use EAX or SVM. The well known error message: "there is no audio device detected" appears after pressing Ctrl E.Each process of is own (Soundcard and all the Creative Softwarestuff) is working absolutely correct so far. Ive tryed driver cleansweeping, deinstalltion of all Creative stuff, even by Driver Cleaner Pro, Ived pulled the Soundcard out of the system during?deinstalltion and tryed any driver version (from CD and Internet)and Installation description procedures which I could find here at the forum, during the whole last days!?But there is no way. Is there someone, who knows what to do? I would be very happy if?it works. Thanks for your attention and help.

TheDarkSide,
Actually what is happening is that MediaSource does not support the Audigy card. The EAX and SVM buttons require the EAX console and capabilities of the Audigy 2 or cards that were designed for MediaSource. The way that EAX was handled and implemented was changed between the Audigy and Audigy 2 and this is why MediaSource doesn't support the EAX capabilities of the Audigy directly. You can still modify the EAX settings from within EAX console for the Audigy but it isn't integrated into MediaSource like it is with Playcenter.

• I have tried loading 3 different cds that I just bought into Itunes and I click the import cd button and it goes through the motions of importing the cds, but when I go to my library none of these cds is there. Help, please!

I have tried loading 3 different cds that I recently purchased into Itunes. I click the import cd button and Itunes goes through the motion of copying and importing the cds, but the songs are not in my music library. I have searched everywhere to find where these cds might be, but to no avail. Could really use some help here. Never used to have this problem.

Are they in the relevant artist & album folders when you look via Windows Explorer. If so something may have gone wrong with the index of the Music playlist. Download the current iTunes Free Single of the Week. I know it sounds odd, but it should fix the problem.
If that doesn't work close iTunes and delete the hidden file sentinel from inside the main iTunes folder, then start iTunes again. It should run a consistency check when it starts up.

Can I use the new Time Capsule to backup my mid 2010 Macbook Pro? Also can I want to free up my hard disk, can I save my photos and files on the time capsule and later access through wifi?

Can I use the new Time Capsule to backup my mid 2010 Macbook Pro?
Yes, if you are asking about using Time Machine to backup the Mac.
Also can I want to free up my hard disk, can I save my photos and files on the time capsule and later access through wifi?
You are not thinking of deleting the photos and files on your Mac, are you? If you do this, you will have no backups for those files.
Another concern is that Time Machine backs up the changes on your Mac. At some point, Time Machine will automatically delete the photos and files from the Time Capsule.....you just don't know when this might occur.
In other words, only delete files from your Mac that you can afford to lose.
