Ebay UK problems

There have been many reports that UK users of Ebay cannot see certain pages on Ebay after recent Updates by Ebay.  I have a problem.  When I open 'My Ebay' on my iMac (Snow Leopard with Safari V 5.1.10) the Summery Page will just not load properly, it is blank, apart from a rotating wiggly wheel thing that just goes on rotating.
However, if I access My Ebay on my iPad 2 the Ebay pages work perfectly, the Summery page opens just as it should, showing all the areas correctly i.e. selling, watching etc.  I am running the latest version of iOS on the iPad.
Could this be down to the fact that the latest Ebay updates are only supported by lateest versions of Safari for Lion, Maverick etc. and my 'Old' iMac version of Safari (5.1.10) just won't work with the latest updates by Ebay?
Any thoughts?

Thanks for that, having been using ebay quite regularly for a number of years I have never had any problems, until last week.  It seems the problems I am having have appeared since Ebay carried out an update recently to the format, structure and layout of the pages.  I also logged on to my account using my wife's PC and I have exactly the same problems there with My Ebay, she is still running XP.  It seems to me that as we have older version of Safari on my iMac and Xp on the PC these are no longer supported by the recent updates Ebay have made and I cannot upgrade to version 6 or 7.  I think Ebay (and Apple too in certain cases) think that everyone is in a position to upgrade to the latest iMacs etc. and operating systems and that money is no object!  I guess Ebay and Apple just don't care about us ordinary folk with very little disposable income.  I guess I'm stuck with what I've got!
Thanks

Hi and thanks in advance for anyone who can help with any suggestions. I downloaded the new version of firefox a few weeks back. The next day I noticed I could not sign in to my Ebay account. I can go anywhere else on the internet and all my sign in/passwords all work fine, only having problems with ebay. I can go on ebay but when I try to actually sign in it says ..

I have been trying for weeks and still cannot get sign in.....it is only happening on my DESKTOP....I can sign in on my phone and on my tablet....also on my sons HP laptop or his HP desktop. I'ts only on my desktop ....I have tried the firewalls. I reregistered and made a new account but once I signed out it won't let me sign in to that one either. I can go anywhere on ebay and click like "security or answer center' and it takes me there, as long as I do not click on the "sign in" part.....I have done so much to fix this in the last few weeks but nothing works.....I don't know what to do....somthing has to be wrong or something got deleted.....firefox is no help because everything on their help page is not working....Please if someone could give me some idea of what happened I would be so grateful!!

    Renegadewoman, welcome to the forum.
The first thing that I would do is try another browser, i.e. Internet Explorer.  If your password doesn't work in it, I suggest contacting Ebay Customer Service.  This is most likely a software problem; not a hardware problem.

  • Ebay page problems

Anybody else having problems setting up a selling page on Ebay? When I try to sell an item I either end up with a "lost server" or in some sort of loop that just gets me no-where. Is this a result of the last security update? It was working just fine a month ago.

Others have had similar complaints. I encourage you to take the matter up with Customer Support at E-bay. "
I beleive he's right as have the same problem with Firefox
Firefox is supported as JP said, & as they say below, this from today's visit,
they have responed to others letters with other suggestions.
Ebay was also good enough to downgrade the Safari browser 1.3.2 on
Panther which runs on 10.3.9 for many user in the AD forums.

Web Browser Recommendations for Using eBay
eBay is designed to work with most modern Web browsers. For best results, eBay recommends you always use the current version of eBay supported browsers. In addition to improving your experience on eBay, upgrading your browser displays Web pages faster and provides the latest security updates.
Getting the best Web browsing experience on eBay
To ensure you get the best Web browsing results on eBay:
Use eBay's recommended Web browsers. eBay supports Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or higher, Mozilla Firefox 1.5 or higher, or Apple Safari.2 or higher.
These browsers are widely used, and their manufacturers provide continual security updates. MSNTV2 is supported by eBay with exceptions due to limitations of that platform. Netscape Navigator is no longer supported by eBay.
eBay is currently not supporting advanced functionality on the Opera browser. etc.....

  • EBay does not recognize new security feature requiring security number in Firefox but works with IE

eBay has a new security feature when attempting to e-mail a seller; it requires that you enter a numerical code in a box. When on Firefox eBay does not recognize that I've entered the number and keeps telling me to enter the number but when on IE it recognizes the number. What add-on, etc do I need to make Firefox compatible with eBay? Thanks

The problem seems to be caused by the Java Console add-ons. Disabling mine (6.0.20 and 6.0.21) fixed the problem.

  • Safari (nor Firefox) will not open eBay...

    This is so weird!
I have a G4 laptop, less than one year old. Has worked fine since I bought it in December 2005. Then 2 weeks ago, ONLY Safari started to not "remember" my password for eBay, that had been added to my Autofill preferences months before.
Today, I was online working in eBay, went to do some errands, and shut off the computer. When I came back home and turned on the computer, I tried to connect to eBay again, but now I get an error saying "Safari can not connect to the server." I can select any other web site and have no problem accessing - just not eBay.
Then, I tried to use Firefox to access eBay - same error message. I called my friend who has the same ISP as I do, asked him if he could access eBay - no problem. So, not the ISP. Then I went to an internet cafe and connected immediately to eBay - no problem. Came back home, started computer again, conneceted to internet, Apple site, Yahoo, my bank site, etc., etc., etc., but when I typed in (or tried to use eBay bookmark) same problem ... can not connect to eBay server.
Tried to connect with Firefox, same no connect.
yes, I have cleared cache, history, cookies, even ran Disk Utility for Permissions, Tech Tool 4, Disk Warrior ... still could not connect to eBay, but can go to every other web site I tried!
Anybody know the solution to solve this so I can get back to work on my eBay store?
    Thanks,
    John

Another suggestion - unplug your router. Wait a few minutes. Plug-in. Restart Safari or Firefox.

  • Using iWeb to create an ebay listing

    Hi,
I am new to iWeb, but love the way it looks, so I decided to create one of my eBay listings in it, and embed it with an 'iFrame' into ebay. Problem is, eBay does not allow iFrames any longer. I was able to pull it in using the 'object data' code but it only shows up on Mozilla and Firefox.
    Here's my question:
I really don't know much about coding, but is there a way to just create some simple html with iWeb so that it would show up in any html editor (like eBay's). When I copied and pasted the html from my iWeb page into the eBay editor, some of it showed up and some didn't. Is this because there are css files that need to be included in the code?
Any help would be great. I hope my question made some kind of sense. "-)

It doesn't always work that well, but the way to do it is to publish your page and then view it with Safari and use File > Mail Contents of this Page.
The stationery feature of Mail.app in Leopard is an alternative.

  • Cant connect to ebay via firefox says no dsl connection but there is, works fine on internet explorer

have checked internet connection, fine. Can access other sites but not ebay, help

Some problems occurs when your Internet security program was set
to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your
updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow
    Firefox to connect to the Internet again;
    * Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
    * Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see
    '''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/configure-firewalls-so-firefox-can-access-internet Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet.]''' {web link}
Type '''about:preferences#advanced'''<Enter> in the address bar.
    Under '''Advanced,''' Select '''Network.'''
Look for '''Configure How Firefox Connects''' and press the '''Settings''' button.

  • G4 iBook suddenly can't find ebay!

Not sure what's going on here. My brother has a 1.42 GHz G4 iBook, 512MB, running OS X 10.4.11. Since Sunday (20/11/11), when he last used eBay, he can't get to the eBay site at all! Both Safari 4.1.3 and Firefox 3.6.24 give the message that they can't find the server for eBay. It doesn't matter what link he tries to use from Google. No other sites seem to be having any problems.
Yet using the same internet connection, my own 1.67 GHZ G4 Powerbook, 1GB, OS X 10.4.11 can find and log into eBay no problem. Can anyone tell me what's going on here please? I've seen forum entries elsewhere that there were Safari problems with ebay a few years ago.
Please help me understand what might be before I go insane!!!

A list from eBay of unsupported browsers:
    http://pages.ebay.com/help/account/browser.html#don't
For Macs, they say to use the latest versions of Safari or Firefox:

which, of course, won't work on the iBook.

  • Can you do something about ebay?

i dont get it. i just chatted with someone at customer support at ebay
my problem is that i cannot modify the text using my mac. (i can do it using internet explorer) their answer was "you have to understand safari do have some issues" and i dont believe him i think safari is a great browser.
anyways i just want to know if any one knows if there is a way i can modify or design the text at this page using my mac or i just have to switch back to i.e.

Unless you can convince eBay techs that Safari is just as good as Internet Explorer, they will optimize the site for Windows and IE.

  • Error message "connection timed out" trying to access ebay

  • Safari 1.3.2 Outdated?

I just logged on to ebay and had the following message box at the top of the page.
    "Message from eBay
To effectively use eBay, we recommend upgrading your Web browser. Benefits of upgrading include the use of the latest security updates and support of interactive Web features."
Also in the box was link that read, "How To Upgrade".
When I clicked on it to see what ebay had to say this what I read.
" How to Upgrade Your Web Browser"
To effectively use eBay, you need to use the latest version of your Web browser.
To provide you the best buying and selling experience, eBay uses the improved technology of the latest versions of Web browsers. If you continue to use older browsers, you may notice that some functions and features you use on eBay will stop working as changes are made to the eBay site.
Benefits of upgrading your browser include better display of eBay pages, more reliable behavior of interactive features and the latest security updates.
Most browser upgrades are easy to install and will import your bookmarks.
Our upgrade recommendations are listed below.
You are currently using: Safari 1.x
You can upgrade to: (link to FireFox)
Is Safari 1x going unsupported anymore? I have been using Safari on ebay with no problems until now. I ignored the box and signed in and was able to use ebay without problem.
Has anyone else had any problems with ebay or other sites using Safari 1x?
***** that I Apple makes you upgrade to Tiger to use 2x.

    Hi Matt,
Yes ebay has changed the site, Safari 2.0.4 is not fully supported
Firefox is your best bet, if you are going to use the site.
They had recently been downgrade 1.3.2 now they tout Firefox,it must be able to handle that very poor code.

  • Compatability between iBook and Lacie Slim CDRW

    Hello.
I've recently purchased an external Lacie Slim CDRW/DVD (by Porsche) drive to use with my iBook. I wanted to be able to watch multiple region dvds without damaging my iBook's sueprdrive so I figured the easiest way. I purchased it used off of eBay.
Problems occured when I attached the drive to my iBook using USB 2. The device received power, as I could open the drive and hear discs spinning, but I wasn't able to see any disc on the desktop or in the finder. I was able to find the drive in the System Profiler under USB High Powered Hub (or something similar, I'm not on my iBook at the moment).
Even more curiously, I've been able to use the drive, and access discs made on my superdrive, using my PC at work.
So basically, why is this drive not working with my iBook? I look forward to hearing any ideas, thanks.
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    A few more things...
I've been trying to figure this out over the last couple days. I tried various combinations of different regioned video DVDs, data DVDs, and CD-Rs. When I put a Region 0 dvd and a data DVD in the drive, a window opened saying that I had inserted a blank DVD and what would I like to do. I clicked open in Finder and then received the following error "This disc could not be used because the drive is not supported. (Error code 0x800200250)"
My one thought of a possible problem might be the amount of power the drive is receiving. I remember reading somewhere that the USB drives on iBooks are lower powered for some reason and aren't able to power up a device, such as a drive, which requires a lot of power. I don't know how much merit there is to this.
My only accomplishments with it so far are finding a disc in the drive in the Disk Utility, seeing the drive in the System Profiler, and hearing a disc try to spin up. Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

  • OS 9 won't install - can't boot up from CD either

A little background on my original situation: When I bought my computer a few yrs ago it only came with 1 install disk (10.2.3) Classic was already on the machine. (By the way, because of the time frame in which I bought the computer, it does not have the ability to boot from EITHER os 9 or 10. It ONLY is able to boot up in OS X and Classic starts up when needed.) Last month I had a "kernel panic" and ended up doing an erase and install - and now any traces of Classic are no where to be found. (I backed up all of my documents & app programs but I didn't think I'd have to save all of the classic stuff too.) Anyway, I tried reinstalling from the original CD and it only installs 10.2.3...still no classic.
Fastforward to last week. I bought & installed Panther 10.3 and everything is great however I still need classic to open my old files. I also bought OS 9.2 on ebay . Problem #1: I put the OS9 disk in, restarted (and held down the C key) and from what I understand a CD background should be on the screen - however, it's just the plain blue normal screen. I'm not sure what's up with that. Am I doing it right or wrong? Did I buy the wrong version? (It's grey and says imac install software (small print = version 9.2) Did I need the disk with a big 9 on it?
Moving on... If I dbl. click on Install software icon - - - it starts to process then a box comes up that says "Classic cannot update files in "System folder" on "imac install" because the disk is read only. Open classic prefs to choose" Obviously it can't be installed onto itself so the only other choice is Macintosh HD and it is "greyed out" and I cannot click on it. Any advice would be appreciated, I'm getting desperate! Thanks
iMac G4 Flat Panel   Mac OS X (10.3)

Hi, Denise. Every Mac that can boot only into OS X was originally shipped with an Install or Restore disk that can install OS 9 for Classic operation (not for booting). Yours is no exception. Somewhere on your single combined Install/Restore DVD (if that's really the only disk that came with your iMac) is a Classic installer; take a good look for it. If it isn't on that disk, there was originally another disk that contained it, which you may have misplaced and forgotten about. This article may help.
Retail OS X installer sets since OS 10.2 have not contained Classic installers, so your Panther installer set will do you no good as far as obtaining Classic is concerned.
The iMac-specific OS 9 installer disk you bought may not be usable. Unless it was originally shipped with an iMac model that isn't OS 9-bootable, it expects you to boot the computer to it. If that's the case, it won't be willing to install onto your hard drive, because the hard drive is the startup disk.
My understanding (and I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong) is that a retail OS 9.x installer (white with a big gold 9) wouldn't do you any good either. I believe that all such disks require you to boot to them before using them, and of course you can't do that on your iMac.
The best, and perhaps the only, option available to you is to locate the Classic installer on your original iMac disk, or if there really is none, order directly from Apple a duplicate of the other disk, originally shipped with your iMac, that did contain that installer.

  • IPhone Reported Lost by the Seller!

Hey, I bought an iPhone 4 off someone, after purchasing it, a couple weeks after (while waiting for it to be Unlocked by Vodafone) the Seller admitted that he rang and reported it 'lost' so that it would get Blacklisted so i'd return it back to him.. so he could then sell it for more!!! (arsehole!)
Well, it isn't lost, I bought it off him via PayPal...
I think its a little ****** what he's done, but is there any way I can get this iPhone 'unblacklisted'?
I've been trying to get a hold of 1 for awhile now to replace this 1 but the 2 I purchased.. the Sellers were complete time wasters!!
so im still trying to get one, so I can send this 1 back to the arsehole... but having no luck yet,
I wanted to purchase via Apple but most of my money is in my PayPal Account and it takes days to transfer to my Bank!
(as Apple dont accept PayPal Payments)
So yeah.. is there any way Apple can unblacklist it?
    thanks.

I've bought hundreds of items on eBay, no problems at all with anything, and not really any problem with this, it's jus that he was selling it, I bought it, but then he noticed the eBay Fee which was like £30+ (cant remember exactly)... all of a sudden I woke up once morning and noticed No Service, so I emailed Vodafone and they said it had been reported stolen... so obviously I contacted the Seller and he said he reported it lost so i'd send it back to him :-/ weird guy!!! but yeah I opened a Dispute on PayPal but they gave me until the 31st to send it back, well... i've not been able to get my hands on a new 1 yet so cant send this 1 back yet! pain in the backside as I need 1 on me at all times because of work... once I post this 1 off and supply the Tracking Number on PayPal (after I open another Dispute) they'll Refund me the money, but was just wondering if there was anything I COULD DO to get it off the Blacklist, never mind though, thanks anyway.

  • Deauthorising my ipod mini from computers i no longer own

I have an old ipod mini (the first one that came out) that i want to sell on ebay, the problem is that it is already up to 4/5 authorised computers. Some of the computers are old work ones that i dont have anymore, is there anyway to deauthorise them? will returning it to factory settings help?

    Hello Katie,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
First of all, there is NO limit to the number of iPods you can have synced with one computer, iTunes library, or iTunes account.
The authorization messages you are seeing are referring to the number of computers you have authorized to play your purchased iTunes content. And as you could see there is a limit of 5.
If you no longer have access to some of your authorized computers you will not be able to deauthorize them. If you end up running out of authorizations, you could always use the *Deauthorize All* option as described in this Apple support, which also provides much more information and details regarding iTunes authorization and deauthorization.
[About iTunes Store authorization and deauthorization|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420]
As to restoring the iPod to factory settings, you should do so anyways, although it has no effect on the number of computers you have authorized.
    Hope this helps.
