ECC 6.0 Dual Stack Copy

The following are available:
System Copy
If you want to perform a homogeneous copy of an existing SAP system based on SAP NetWeaver 7.0, use the following System Copy Procedures:
For EHP1 SR1: ABAP, ABAP + Java, or Java.
For EHP1: ABAP, ABAP + Java, or Java.
For SR3: ABAP, ABAP + Java, or Java.
For SR2: ABAP, ABAP + Java, or Java.
How can I tell which one to use? I use the 7.0 kernel and as for SP level my latest is SAPKB70019..
BUT for EA-HR we have implemented 602 (which I think is enhance pack2) - but only for EA-HR (Travel).
Since I am doing a system copy and pulling Java and ABAP from my source system using saptools can I just use ABAP+JAVA SR3?
Thanks!

Yes SR3 shoul be good you can even check the system copy master guide.
Thanks,
George Rayi

  • NW2004s: SPS installation for dual-Stack-Installation (Java/ABAP) - PI(XI)

    Hello,
we want to apply a new SP stack to a NW2004s (ECC 6.0) - dual stack (Java/ABAP) with PI(XI).
The ABAP stack is sucessfully patched yet,
but the Java stack needs still to be patched!
In the SPS guide for SPS 9 and some OSS notes you can read that during the patching of the Java stack, the whole system (ABAP and Java engine) are restarted several times. But the JSPM should ask you before the restart.
Do you have experiences how long the patching of the Java stack will take (downtime)?
How often needs the system to be restarted?
Is it possible to work with the ABAP engine (ABAP development, etc.) during the installation of the Java SPS with JSPM until the system needs to be restarted?
How is it possible to minimize the downtime of the system during the Java SPS installation?
    Thanks in advance!
    Best regards,
    Stephan

    Hi Stephan,
"Do you have experiences how long the patching of the Java stack will take (downtime)?"
I believe this is most highly dependent on the hardware.  Although some patches will deploy more objects than others, the deploy time is shorter on better/faster hardware.  I applied SP9 on my laptop PC (java only, no ABAP stack) and it took a few hours total -- including my processing and error correcting time.  My laptop has only 2 GB RAM so this process was greatly slowed by the amount of available memory (I was running other applications, like Outlook, etc.) resulting in a lot of disk swapping.
"How often needs the system to be restarted?"
Again, I have a java only installation, no ABAP, but I believe there was only 1-2 system restarts.  The system had to be restarted after the application of the java kernel part of the patch, then shutdown and restarted again for the offline deployment phase.  I cannot remember if there was a restart after the online deployment phase.
"Is it possible to work with the ABAP engine (ABAP development, etc.) during the installation of the Java SPS with JSPM until the system needs to be restarted?"
    Yes.
"How is it possible to minimize the downtime of the system during the Java SPS installation?"
I think the best way is to have the best hardware!  Also, be sure to be thoroughly prepared by reading the guide, all of the Notes, etc.  I was slowed by a previously correctable error (my administrator password had been previously changed and I had not changed it in the secure store -- Note 701654).
    Best Regards,
    Matt

  • Homogeneous system copy ECC 6.0 EHP4 dual stack system

    Hello ,
I have a requirement of homogeneous system for the below Source system
    Source system :
    ECC6.0 EHP1 ABAP+java dual stack system with DB2 AIX
    Required Target system:
ECC 6.0 EHP1 (same as target system except single stack java not required)
1 .I was trying to use db specific homogeneous system copy method wiht redirected restore script
    2. Not possible to get downtime on source system hense it's a production system , then i used target system installaion with homogeneous system copy database specific mehthod
Problem is - it's asking migration export while creating the target system ,  but i don't have any migration export since i have not exported from source system .
please help us to proceed further.
    Thanks in Advance.

    2. Not possible to get downtime on source system hense it's a production system , then i used target system installaion with homogeneous system copy database specific mehthod
What did you choose to do in database specific method - DB2 backup/restore ?
    //Backup Restore
    Homegeneous system copy(database specific method)
    Target -
As I understand, you have started IMPORT using SAPinst for target system installation. During IMPORT, what target system installation (only ABAP or what ?) you chose ?
    //I took ABAP+JAVA
'Problem is - it's asking migration export while creating the target system , but i don't have any migration export since i have not exported from source system .'
This is because the source system is ABAP+Java, and now during target system installation, then IMPORT procedure is asking for Java Export dump.
    Thanks

  • Error in phase import Homogeneous system copy from a BI 7.3 dual stack ABAPJAVA

    Hi
I'm doing a Homogeneous system copy from a BI 7.3 dual stack ABAP+JAVA system with an Oracle DB (11g version, 11.2.0.3.0 patch level) with AIX ibm OS.
Before starting export I've executed in the source system the report SMIGR_CREATE_DDL, as described in sap note 888210, and I generated *.SQL files.
After, during the import in the target system I get the following error message:

Before anything update DB shared lib, R3load, R3ldctl and R3szchk in the target system. Also Check in source system if you have any tables o index missing in db02 transaction, If this system wa upgraded from a previous release please check TAORA and IAORA tables in source system and check all the tablespaces named in those tables are created in the target system.
let me know how it goes.

  • Splitting System Copy on BI Dual stack

    Hi,
We are planning to split Our BI Dual stack system.
    1) To perform ABAP system copy through Oracle tools.
    2) To perform Java system copy through Sapinst and them import in to the system copy performed in step 1.
Could some one help me out, can we go ahead or not.

    Hi,
    > We are planning to split Our BI Dual stack system.
    > 1) To perform ABAP system copy through Oracle tools.
If you use backup/restore method to build your ABAP system then you should know that Java Schema is also present in the database, so, after restore you need to drop Java schema as well or you can do this before restoring the system in source system then take backup and restore this backup on target system.
    > 2) To perform Java system copy through Sapinst and them import in to the system copy performed in step 1.
    >
Yes, you can do that. But I really doubt to use this method to build your production system. I would recommend following approach:
    1) Install new As Java system with different <SID>.
    2) Migrate all existing functionality of your existing As Java system to new As Java system. Do all the testing to check all the scenarios.
    3) Drop As Java from your dual stack system.
    Also, check below threads:

  • Solman 7.1 dual stack homogenous System copy

    Hi all,
I need to perform a solman 7.1 dual stack system copy from QA to sandbox system.
Can anybody let me know the steps involved in solman 7.1 dual stack system copy Procedure.
    Thanks
    Vimal

    Hi Vimal,
    Please check:
"System Copy for SAP Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver 7.1 Including Enhancement Package 1 Java (PI/XI)
SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1 including Enhancement Package 1 - 2010/12/02" or 011000358700001317792010E.pdf
The best way to perform a system copy of a dual stack is to use sapinst with the backup/restore options. Install a plaine system an restore the db would not work. Sapinst exports also a lot of stuff from the filesystem repository.
    1. Export actual SAP system using sapinst with option export ABAP+JAVA
    2. Uninstall SAP+DB from actual server
    3. Install SAP using option System Copy (Target system)
    Thanks
    Vikram

  • Why jave export and import need to be performed after sys copy Dual stack

    Dear All,
i have a question why do we have to perform JAVA export in the source and import in the target system
after system copy ( dual stack ). when whole database is copied. Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
The reason for this is: because most of the Java configuration lies in the file system and not in the database. This is the reason you need to export Java and then import in system copy.
    Thanks

  • Mapping error in PI 7.4 dual stack

    Dear Experts,
Recently we upgraded our system from PI 7.1 to PI 7.4 dual stack.
    Scenerio is ECC->PI->SOAP(Webservice) synchronous
    Issue in detail:
We are creating a invoice in ECC system through PI its updating in third party site using SOAP webservice and will get a reference number from that site and then updating in ECC as in synchronous way.
Invoice data's are reached PI sucessfully from ECC but it not updating in the site and getting below mapping error after upgarded to PI 7.4.
Your points will be highly appreciable.
Kindly help to sort out this issue.
    Best Regards,
    Monikandan

    Hi Monikandan,
It seems you are trying the sign the payload in your java mapping. So, looking at the attached error, there could be 2 possibilities:
    1) Either there is no certificate with alias: *_PRD
    2) This certificate is stored in some "System" type keystore view which is not accessible from you mapping code. Try to move your certificate to some "User" keystore view.
    Thanks & regards,

  • LDAP configuration for HR Portal in dual stack EHP4 - Best Practice

    Hi Experts,
               Hello Experts,
We are trying to use the JAVA Stack of ECC server for HR Portal i.e Dual Stack and have applied EHP4 package for ESS/MSS Appraisal. When we are trying to configure the LDAP ADS datasource through portal , we are not able to do it since ABAP datasorce file is available by default. This we are doing for HR(ESS/MSS) Portal. This is for access to the object data stored in the Active Directory.
We have already checked note 718383.
Also, for the scenatrio ,LDAP <-> ABAP <-> J2EE
We have already checked sap help doc.here:
    http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_04/helpdata/EN/e6/0bfa3823e5d841e10000000a11402f/frameset.htm
What should now be the best practice to follow for configuration ? Should we go for separate Portal server or is it possible to use Java Stack of ECC server for configuration ?
Also, LDAP <-> ABAP <-> J2EE scenario please suggest if it a best practice and we can follow the same .What are the limitations , risks and issues ? Please suggest if this has been implemented and running well in any live project .
Are the suggestions applicable for load balanced production servers as well?
    Thanks,
    Rakesh

    Hi,
the UME datasource must remain ABAP but you can sync the users between ABAP and LDAP using the LDAP connector:

  • Single stack vs. Dual Stack - Why does SAP recommend single stack?

    Hello SAP,
I am a business partner who specializes in infrastructure consulting for SAP solutions.  The SAP Consultants I am working with recently have been recommending that customers install single stack systems.  I would like to know why? Are there problems with dual stack systems?  Is SAP changing things in a later release and they want customers to be prepared for the change?
From an infrastucture point of view this recommendation combined with SAP NetWeaver architecture will result in an explosion of SID names which leads to an explosion of application server instances and DBMS instances and an explosion of installed servers.  I know it is possible to combine SIDs into a single DBMS using MCOD and to have multiple application servers in a single physical server, but there are issues with mulitple application server instances and MCOD use which make normal maintenance operations difficult.
I think it would be much better for customers to install dual stack systems and simply adjust the SAP profile parameters to disable one stack or the other.  This way, you could still have 1 stack per application server instance and you would not be have to be creative with SAP SID names!!!  Creating a DBMS instance or installing an additional server is not a simple nor economical proposition.
    Regards,
    Zaz

I am a business partner who specializes in infrastructure consulting for SAP solutions.  The SAP Consultants I am working with recently have been recommending that customers install single stack systems.  I would like to know why? Are there problems with dual stack systems?
    The problems are:
    - difficult to size and maintain - Java + ABAP will fight for resources (memory,CPU) and there´s not much one can do to tune if either ABAP or Java as dual stack instance on a single box is running nuts (for whatever reason).
    - System copies via R3load - if you want to copy a huge system (let´s say ERP 6.0 + Java stack) you need to use sapinst + R3load to do the copy. Imagine if the system is 1 TB or bigger, this is very time consuming
    - Upgrades are complicated - if you upgrade a dual stack system you need to run two PREPARES and two upgrades at the same time - there are sync points each upgrade wait for the other to finish --> difficult to plan in sense of runtimes and even more notes/preparation to do (a dual stack SolMan upgrade from 3.2 to 4.0 had almost 100 notes (technical!) and two upgrade preparation guides...)
    - interdependencies - example: you run ERP + EP + BI-Java on one system. You upgrade your BI (which is on a different box) to a new support package. Since the BI-Java need to be in sync with the BI ABAP support package you need to upgrade the EP too - and since there´s a direct dependency (doublestack system) you will need to install support packages on your ERP. So you finally end up in having dependency chains that a total different system (BI) will force you to upgrade/patch your ERP. And if you have e. g. a CRM connected to the same EP you will need to patch that too...
Is SAP changing things in a later release and they want customers to be prepared for the change?
No - the possibility of having a dual stack installation will be still there.
I agree - MCOD is not a good solution for this problem.
There are 36 * 36 * 36 (minus a few reserved) names for SIDs- this should be enough - also for the biggest customers
Of course one could install both and disable the one you don´t need - but this won´t help in dependency thing. If you e. g. install a dual stack instance for CRM and disable the Java part, you can nicely run it. In case of an upgrade, you will need to upgrade the Java part too (see above) although you don´t use it. The upgrade will detect the doublestack and wait for the java instance to be upgraded too. Same is true vice versa. And believe me: you don´t want that
In fact it is better to separate - that´s at least our experience. The main no-go for such a configuration on our side was the dependency thing. Since they are there and you can´t do much about them we decided to have a 1:1 relationship for ABAP backend and Java "frontend". You will get more instances (and names and databases) but you can patch applications independently from each other. So an implementation of a  BI patch won´t imply that you finally also patch your ERP production and other systems that connect to that portal.
There are virtualization techniques available to not need more boxes, you can consolidate them on one machine as if you were installing a dual stack so that is not really an issue. This depends, of course, on the platform and database you use (e. g. Oracle does not support production installations in VMWare). We use for our Java instances Solaris on Opteron (or Intel 64bit) and zones/containers and for the ABAP part we use Linux + Xen. Both virtualization methods come with the OS (so no additional $$$) and both are supported by SAP.
The propagated advantage of having a dual stack installation (shared memory access etc.) is so small that it doesn´t outban the additional complexity - which is definitely there.
I hope those arguments will help to understand SAPs (and the consultants) position - get back if you want more

  • Disable portal,km startup in multi-application dual stack

    Hello,
We have a dual stack ECC installation with ESS,MSS,Portal and XECO on the java stack. We are currenty trying to run debug against the XECO components on the java stack. It appears that the debugger is getting very slow due to the multiple java applications. We would like to disble portal(km,cm), ess and mss for a few weeks while we complete our debugging with XECO.
Is there anyway to disable the startup of portal, ess and mss?
    thanks in advance
    Vipin

    Hello Vipin,
You can turn off any Java application easily from Visual Admin.
Just login into Visual Admin and goto Cluster -> Server -> Services -> Deploy then in Runtime tab select Radio button Application. You will see all your Java application here. If you see check mark in front of your application, the app is running but if you see "x" sign then it's stopped.
Select your application and click on "Stop Application" button on right side.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Separate Dual Stack

    Good Day:
I need a recommendation, i need separate the Java system from a dual stack system, this not is the problem, the  problem are 3:
    1. Is a CRM System. (What i need look between systems to preserve the configurations and communications between systems)
    2. Is a distributed system, the stack Java+ABAP is in one physical Hardware and the data base is in another, the destination for Java is another physical Hardware.
    3. Taking on mind the point 2, is necessary install in the same DataBase.
Taks a lot for your answer!
    Best regards!

    MY MESSAGE TO SAP
    Good day:
    Context:
We update our version of SAP CRM 2006 and CRM 7.0 EHP1 with Netweaver 7.2 so far everything
    is correct.
    Technical Environment:
SAP EHP 1 for SAP CRM 7.0 is on SAP NetWeaver 7.02 and installed on ABC-Server on dual-
stack, a the second server DEF-Server is the database is required only to separate
instances of the ABAP-JAVA, Java go to the server GHI-Server, but the database is not
    split.
    Problem:
Once make the system upgrade, se second step is splitting the Dual-Stak, in this step we
don't found a tool for make the split, the cuestions are three, 1) exist a tool for make
this task? 2) if not. how we can make this? 3) this is supported by SAP
    under what
    specifications.
we try to make a split by the stardart sapinst but when we try to import the data base the
system say what this is not support on the database but is the same database engine
    (Server).
Normally this task is simple but the option, system copy and extraction, for a new
installation and the creation of the other system with individual database is not possible

  • Migrate dual stack to ABAP only

    We have a dual-stack NW700.
We only want to export its ABAP portion and then use the export to build a new NW700 ABAP only.
    1) is this feasible (i.e. the traget system will run? It's OK run without JAVA functionality as long as it runs)
    2) if so, on sapinst , should select "system copy-> oracle->central system->system based on ABAP"
    OR
    "system copy-> oracle->central system->system based on ABAP + JAVA" ?
    Thanks!

    Hi Jessica,
You don't have to export the database.. Removing the java schema from the database is sufficient.
The installation guide explains how to remove a java add-in from a dual stack system.
Basically you do a drop user cascade from the java schema, remove the java software and delete the java specific parameters from the instance profile.
    Kind regards,
    Mark
