ECC 6.0 Upgrade on Sun Cluster..
Hi All,
I am Upgrading the system from 4.7 to ECC 6.0 on SUN O/S in the Cluster environment for the first time.
So please suggest any valuable information on this regard..
Any other extra steps to be followed than a regular Upgrade...
Any information on this will be really appreciable..
Regards,
Madhu Kumar T
Hi Guys,
Few days back we have done Upgrdae from ECC5.0 to ECC6.0 for our PRD instance on HP Cluster environment. Initially SAP guys suggested us to do the upgdare on one node means bring CI to DB or vice versa but later they even told us to do the upgrade without touching anything on cluster. Upgrade will take of everything.
I feel upgrade will call startsap or stopsap whether for your PRD instance or shadow instance so switchover will never happen in normal case. It will only happen when your sap or db abruptly down.
We successfully done this upgarde without touching anything on cluster side.

Mukul SHarma

Upgrading Solaris OS (9 to 10) in sun cluster 3.1 environment
Hi all ,
I have to upgrade the solaris OS 9 to 10 in Sun cluster 3.1.
Sun Cluster 3.1
data service - Netbackup 5.1
Questions:
1 .Best ways to upgrade the Solaris 9 to 10 and the Problems while upgrading the OS?
2 .Sun Trunking support in Sun Cluster 3.1?
Regards
RamanaHi Ramana
We had used the live upgrade for upgrading Solaris 9 to 10 and its the best method for less downtime and risk but you have to follow the proper procedure as it is not the same for normal solaris. Live upgrade with sun cluster is different . you have to take into consideration about global devices and veritas volume manager. while creating new boot environment.
Thanks/Regards

Any one did an upgrade from Sun cluster 3.0 07/01 release to 12/01 release
was there any problem in the upgrade and what was the approach
any suggestionThis upgrade is delivered as a patch set and some
additional packages. The upgrade procedure is
basically the same as a normal patch procedure.
You might consider getting the latest core Sun Cluster
patch as well, just to be sure you are at the latest rev.
The additional packages provide new features. The
most popular is the Generic Data Service which can
really save development time for simple agents.

PBE has SUNWesu while ABE missing this package, does it mean SUNWesu hadn't upgrade from PBE to ABE? if so what will be the alternative to do it?

Dear All,
Sooner we will upgrade the Sun Cluster 3.1. I am now working on a testing site.
What I am trying to setup is two server with SC 3.1 and simulate the migration procedure, however we don't have SAN in the testing site, so I stuck in the quorum configuration.
I was told SC 3.1 can be setup without any SAN but local disk, however I cannot locate any document related.
Could anyone please help with any tips? How can I setup the quorum device on NFS or even just local disk?
Thanks and Regards,
Donald
Edited by: Foo Donald on 2011/7/14 上午 1:07Hi Nik,
I have setup a Sun Cluster 3.2 Quorum Server in a third system which is listening on port 9000.
Please correct me if wrong, it seems like Sun Cluster 3.1 command scconf cannot see the quorum server, it cannot specify the IP nor port.
The testing site is on Solaris 8 + Sun Cluster 3.1, it will be upgrade to Solaris 10 + Sun Cluster 3.2 by Live Upgrade.
Thanks and Regards,

Upgrade from Solaris 8 SPARC with Sun cluster 3.1u3 to Solaris 10 SPARC
Dear All,
We are planning an upgrade of the OS from Solaris 8 SPARC to Solaris 10 SPARC on a two-node active-standby clustered system.
The current major software we have on the Solaris 8 system are:
1: Sun Cluster 3.1u3
2: Oracle 9i 9.2.0.8
3: Veritas File System Vxfs v4.0
4: Sun Solaris 8 2/04 SPARC
Any pointers as to what sequence and how the upgrade should be done?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Rayyes I know it can be quite complicated and complex, but Sun provided us with a detailed documentation, at least in our case Solaris 9 to 10 it was very helpful.
You might get better help in the cluster forum http://forums.sun.com/forum.jspa?forumID=842

Sun Cluster 3.2 beta supports the following Data Services
* Apache (shipped with the Solaris OS)
* DNS
* NFS V3
* Java Enterprise System 2005Q4: Application Server, Web Server, Message Queue, HADBWithout speculating on the release date of Sun Cluster 3.x or even its feature list, I would like to understand what risk Sun would take when Sun Cluster would support ZFS as a failover filesystem? Once ZFS is part of Solaris 10, I am sure customers will want to use it in clustered environments.
BTW: this means that even Veritas will have to do something about ZFS!!!
If VCS is a much better option, it would be interesting to understand what features are missing from Sun Cluster to make it really competitive.
Thanks

Sun Cluster 3.2, Zones, HA-Oracle, & FSS
I have a customer who wants to deploy a cluster utilizing Solaris 10 Zones. With creating the resource groups with the following: nodeA:zoneA, nodeB:zoneA, the Oracle resource group will be contained in the respective zone.
First create the Zone after the Sun Cluster software has been installed?
When installing Oracle, the binaries and such should reside in the Zone or in the global zone?
When configuring FSS, should this be done after the resources have been configured?
Thanks in advance,
RyanThe Oracle biaries are not big at all, ther is not much IO happening at this fs, you can easily create a ufs file system for each zone, mount that via lofs mounts into the zone. Or you can create a zpool for the binaries. My personal take would be to include them in the root path of the zones an you are set.
You must install the binaries in all zones where your Oracle database can fail over to. To reduce the maintenance work in the case of upgrades I would limit the binary installation to the zones in the nodelist of your oracle resource group. If you install the binaries on all nodes/zones of the cluster you have more work when it comes to an upgrade.
Kind Regards

Hi,
I have to upgrade 9.2.0.6 to 9.2.08 on sun cluster. Can you tell me in what sequence I need to install patch set? Is there any pre-requisite which I need to take care in advance? If anybody will provide me exact doc then It will be very helpful.I have seen one doc in metalink but it is not sufficient.
Thanks,
MkHave you checked the 9.2.0.8 patch README ? There are several references on how to patch clustered instances - if the information is insufficient or lacking, pl open an SR with Support.

Sun Cluster Core Conflict - on SUN Java install
Hi
We had a prototype cluster that we were playing with over two nodes.
We decided to uninstall the cluster by putting node into single user mode and running scinstall -r.
Afterwards we found that the Java Availability Suite was a little messed up - maybe because the kernel/registry had not been updated - it though the cluster and agent software was uninstalled and would not let us re-install. All the executabvles from /etc/cluster/bin had been removed from the nodes.
So, On both nodes we ran the uninstall program from /var/sadm/prod/... and then selected cluster and agents to uninstall.
On the first node, this completely removed the sun cluster compoenets and then allowed us to re-install the cluster software successfully.
On the second node, for some reason, it has left behind the component "Sun Cluster Core", and will not allow us to remove it with the uninstall.
When we try to re-install we get the following:
"Conflict - incomplete version of Sun Cluster Core has been detected"
In then points us to the sun cluster upgrade guide on sun.com.
My question is - how do we 'clean up' this node and remove the sun cluster core so we can re-install the sun cluster software from scratch?
I don't quite understand how this has been left behind....
thanks in advance
S1black.You can use prodreg directly to clean up when your de-install has gone bad.
Use:
# prodreg browse
to list the products. You may need to recurse down into the individual items. The use:
# prodreg unregister ...
to unregister and pkgrm to remove the packages manually.
That has worked for me in the past. Not sure if it is the 'official' way though!

Tim

Sun Cluster dataservice for Webspher MQ
Is Sun Cluster dataservice for Websphere MQ available for
Sun Cluster 3.0?
Should a Sun Cluster 3.0 be upgraded to 3.1 in order to install the Websphere MQ dataservice?
Thanks in advance. The Sun Cluster dataservice for WebSphere MQ is available for SC3.0 update 3 onwards.
However the agent is only distributed on the SC3.1 Agents CD, please contact Sun for the CD or Agent.
Updating to SC3.1 is not required. MQ 5.2/5.3 are supported, although only MQ 5.2 on Solaris 8, with MQ 5.3 on either Solaris 8 or 9.

Does sun Cluster 3.0/3.1 HA Oracle agent support to use Oracle spfile?
When defining the resource, the 'parameter_file' properties is usually sets to the Oracle pfile. Is it possible to use Oracle spfile?
It is said if leaving 'parameter_file' NULL, it will be default to Oracle default. Suppose leaving it NULL and with Oracle spfile created in default location, will it use the spfile? You did not specify which Sun Cluster version and Oracle version you are running.
Within SC 3.1 my understanding is that beginning with Oracle 9i it is possible to use the spfile.
If you leave the "parameter_file" property empty (NULL) then the default behaviour for 9i should work:
search under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs in the order:
1. spfile$(ORACLE_SID}.ora
2. spfile.ora
3. init${ORACLE_SID}.ora

Check the Transportatation Logs in STMS for the programs/screens and check whether they are successfully tranported or not?
Because some times we get Dynpro errors for transportation of the screens.

Hi all,
Need some help from all out there
In our Sun Cluster 3.1 Data Service for Oracle RAC 9.2.0.7 (Solaris 9) configuration, my team had encountered
ora-29701 *Unable to connect to Cluster Manager*
during the startup of the Oracle RAC database instances on the Oracle RAC Server resources.
We tried the attached workaround by Oracle. This workaround works well for the 1^st time but it doesnt work anymore when the server is rebooted.
Kindly help me to check whether anyone encounter the same problem as the above and able to resolve. Thanks.

Problem statement:
ORA-29701 DURING DATABASE CREATION AFTER APPLYING 9.2.0.6 PATCHSET
*** 03/25/05 07:32 am ***
TAR:
PROBLEM:
Customer applied 9.2.0.6 patchset over 9.2.0.4 patchset.
While creating the database, customer receives following error:
ORA-29701: unable to connect to Cluster Manager
However, if customer goes from 9.2.0.4 -> 9.2.0.5 -> 9.2.0.6, the problem does not occur.
DIAGNOSTIC ANALYSIS:
It seems that the problem is with libskgxn9.so shared library.
For 9.2.0.4 -> 9.2.0.5 -> 9.2.0.6, the install log shows the following:
installActions2005-03-22_03-44-42PM.log:,
[libskgxn9.so->%ORACLE_HOME%/lib/libskgxn9.so 7933 plats=1=>[46]langs=1=> en,fr,ar,bn,pt_BR,bg,fr_CA,ca,hr,cs,da,nl,ar_EG,en_GB,et,fi,de,el,iw,hu,is,in, it,ja,ko,es,lv,lt,ms,es_MX,no,pl,pt,ro,ru,zh_CN,sk,sl,es_ES,sv,th,zh_TW, tr,uk,vi]]
installActions2005-03-22_04-13-03PM.log:, [libcmdll.so ->%ORACLE_HOME%/lib/libskgxn9.so 64274 plats=1=>[46] langs=-554696704=>[en]]
For 9.2.0.4 -> 9.2.0.6, install log shows:
installActions2005-03-22_04-13-03PM.log:, [libcmdll.so ->%ORACLE_HOME%/lib/libskgxn9.so 64274 plats=1=>[46] langs=-554696704=>[en]] does not exist.
This means that while patching from 9.2.0.4 -> 9.2.0.5, Installer copies the libcmdll.so library into libskgxn9.so, while patching from 9.2.0.4 -> 9.2.0.6 does not.
ORACM is located in /app/oracle/ORACM which is different than ORACLE_HOME in customer's environment.
WORKAROUND:
Customer is using the following workaround:
cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/lib make -f ins_rdbms.mk rac_on ioracle ipc_udp

ARSSESHi all.
I am having a similar issue with a Sun Cluster 3.2 and SAP 7.0
Scenrio:
Central Instance (not incluster) : Started on one node
Dialog Instance (not in cluster): Started on the other node
When I create the resource for SUNW.sap_as like
clrs create --g sap-rg -t SUNW.sap_as .....etc etc
in the /var/adm/messages I got lots of WAITING FOR DISPACHER TO COME UP....
Then after timeout it gives up.
Any clue? What does is try to connect or waiting for? I hve notest that it's something before the startup script....
TIA

After upgrading to 10.4.7 I cannot play audio through my Powermac's line-out. The sound appears distorted and is interrupted every couple of seconds (sometimes for as long as up to a minute). This happens in any application (iTunes, QuickTime, etc.)
