ECC6 on AIX 5.3 TL 7

Hi there,
We are using ECC6 with Oracle 10g (10.2.0.2.0) database running on an IBM AIX 5.3. TL 5. We would like to ask if our SAP Application is still supported if we are to upgrade to AIX 5.3 TL 7 as some of our hardware requires upgrade to the said Technology Level.
Can anybody help please?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Yes, it is supported. Additionally, you can check SAP Note 1119631 - Using SAP systems with AIX 5.3

  • ST03N on ECC6.0/AIX

    Hi All.
    I'm managing a strange issue regarding the ST03 workload analysis.
    When I select an instance (and a day to analyze) and then select the "Time Profile" in the "Analysis Views", I am not able to see all the time intervals but only one or two of them, depending on the selected day (eg. 0006 or 00-06 and 2124).
    Can anyone help me solving this issue?
    Thanks,
    Marco

    HI,
    run report SWNC_CONFIG_TIMEPROFILE using SA38 or se38
    under parameter select
    Display current configuration
    check the configuration
    or you can adjust time profile by selecting calculate all hours seperatly and execute
    also check SAP BASIS SP 9 is applied or not

    How can I resolve this problem ?
    best regards

    Dear Emerson,
    Can you check your list of tables if they are all listed in OSS note 674070.
    From reading you message it sounds like you situation is covered by section 4.
    Can I ask you to please follow the instructions in attached note 674070?
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Table names: BTCSED, DVERS, EDMAP, FREF, IXDIT, IXTYT, ST05RESULT,
    TESCL, TESPO, VBLOG, BCACT, BCCOM, BCSPO, BCTOU, CNTLWARN, DFAXD, E071K,
    STXRDIR, T705T, TRT1, TRTES, TSTCA_C, BCEXC, BCRES, PDSNR, POCTRACE,
    STXRDID, T705X, T77ALE_DEF, T77ALE_IF, T77ALE_IFT, TRSTIT, TWPSSO2SGN,
    CD2APP0, CD2HV1PTAB, CD2HV2FTAB, DDVE1, DDVEPR, TFLOATCONV, VERPF,
    VERPF2, VGGT2, VGHT2, VGPT2
    The error only occurs with databases that use different containers
    (tablespaces, DBSpaces, and so on) for saving data. Caution: The report
    described in this note is only implemented for the Oracle, Informix and
    DB2 UDB for UNIX and Windows databases. It is not required for other
    databases.
    Solution
    1.  Download the attached SAR archive ("Attachments" tab) and use the
        relevant SAPCAR to unpack it to your transport directory.
    2.  Then import the transport B20K8A1ZZI into your system. This contains
        the report RSCHECKEXC.
        Caution: To import the transport, you need an R3trans version dating
        from at least 18.8.05.
    3.  Call transaction SE38 and execute the "RSCHECKEXC" report directly.
           The report output is attached to the log file
           <DIR_TRANS>/tmp/RSCHKEXC.<SID>.
    The various possible uses for the report are explained below:
    4.  You have performed the release upgrade and notice the symptom
         described above: The old substitution containers are not empty.
         Solution: Use database tools to generate a list of tables that are
         in the old substitution container and save this list in a text file
         (one table name on each row). Copy this file to the application
         server on which you call the RSCHECKEXC report.
         When you call the report, enter the absolute file name in the
         "TABFILE" field and execute the report.
         As described above, you can now select the MODE="" (check only),
         MODE="DRCR" (recreate empty tables) and MODE="ICNV" (add tables wit
         contents to the ICNV) options.
         Unlike before, where the report selects all of the tables that have
         one substitution table type, the report now works on the list of
         tables from the file.
    After you have successfully implemented this note, the old exchange
    container (PSAP<SID>620) should be empty. Use database tools to confirm
    that this is the case.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I believe that this note will resolve your issue.

    Abhishek

  • DB2_WORKLOAD settings lost

    SAP ECC6.0
    AIX 5.3
    DB2 9.5 FP3
    We attempted to re-cycle a running SAP instance. It failed to shutdown and restart due to error (found in trans.log):
             DB2_WORKLOAD=SAP is not set in DB2 registry
    I checked the registry settings ( db2set -all ) and sure enough there were only a few default settings.
    I reset the DB2_WORKLOAD and a couple of other IO related parameters and restarted the database.
    SAP then started up.
    There was no sign of errors in SAP before the shutdown,  there is nothing relevant in the database log, and no changes had been made to the database.
    Can anyone shed some light on how the registry settings could have been lost?

    We ran db2iupt per installation guide following the upgrade just before the saproot.sh script.
    I also would not expect db2iupt to affect the registry settings. The only reason I suggest this is because it corresponds with the time the profile.env file was wiped out.
    However, I was not the one doing the work, so there were perhaps other things going on that caused this issue which I am not aware of. It has not happened before and I don't expect it to happen again.
    At least, I learned where the db2set parameters are maintained.
    Thanks everyone for the feedback.

  • Change In Clock Time

    Hello All,
    We are working in UK. We have SAP for a system running on  ECC6 on AIX with TL07 SP1, and another running on 4.7 on AIX with TL08 SP3. We have to plan to change the clock by this month end. Last time we had an issue for the same and were getting the LARGE TIME DIFFERENCE dumps.
    We had to apply SP2 for the 4.7 system as it was running on TL07 SP1. Now, I would like to know if we face any problem in changing the time. Please help.
    Thanks,
    Nick.S

    - your system should not travel backwards in time
    - the time should be consistent across your environment
    Best practice is to stop the system during the time conversion.
    Have a look at these notes:

  • How to chech table growth in SAP

    hi
    i have a ECC6 on AIX plateform and database is oracle 10 i want to know how can i check which table is grow faster and what action i will take for smooth running of SAP system?
    Thanks
    Vikram

    Hi Vikram
    Goto DB02 and then click on Space Statistic. For tables/indexes and tablespace give * and it will give you the table/tablespace statistics. You can select days, weeks and month wise.
    For extending tablespace user brtools from ora<sid>.

  • BKI0062E: The input file /oracle/SID/sapbackup/.file.lst is not valid.

    Hi all,
       It has the following platform: SAP ECC6 in AIX 6.1 with Oracle Database
    My question is: When I run a online backup from DB13 with util_file I have this error message :
    BKI0062E: The input file /oracle/SID/sapbackup/.file.lst is not valid.
    Knowing when I launch from the standard profile on Disk initSID.sap it works without problem
    When we test manually with oraSID it works but by SIDadm its not work
    Then you can mention or in configuration files BACKINT both users oraSID & SIDadm have rights to use
    Many Thanks

    As you see - your br*tools are more than two years old, many many errors have been fixed since. I would install the latest tools and try if the error is still there. You can even do that when the system is running.

  • Need help about best practices - Add DI or add WP

    Hello Experts,
    I am facing on a strategic problem.
    We want to add new application Server (= Instance Dialog) to our CI/DB.
    But I am note sure that is the good way!
    Is it better to add New Work Process in existing Dialog Instance?
    Or, should we create another DI in the same physical host?
    I have to explain the both scenarii with features.
    Could you please help me to have the best practice in this situation.
    Thanks a lot for your help.

    Hocine NAÏ

    Hi Sunil,
    Thanks a lot for your reply. We have Sap ECC6 u2013 AIX 5.3. Today we have 3 AS (2 Linux sans one Aix). The goal is to eliminate the Aix AS. In each AS we have 5O WP. What is the highest number of WP allowed?
    And we have two opinion within my company :
    ==> The first is we have to add another AS in the same server than existing one. It was justified by the fact that we have enough available memory!
    ==> The second is to increase the both linux AS by adding 25 WP by AS. I am not sure but I read that the WP limitation number is 600! Is it right.
    Thanks a lot for your help

  • Physical Machines vs LPARs

    Hello,
    In order to install ECC6 on AIX machine (Production instance), is it better to have both ECC instance & DB instance on the same machine without LPARs configuration, or to have each instance on a separate LPAR?
    Thanks for advice.
    Waleed

    HI,
    The benefit, of having separate LPARs for your DB and CI, is that is is easier to troubleshoot hardware/software problems if any had to occur.
    The benefit, of a single LPAR/physical, is that from an administration point of view, it is easier to maintain. E.G, if OS patches need to be applied then you need to patch 2 systems.
    Kind Regards,
    Chris

  • CPIO backup for more than 2 gb files

    Hi
    I have installed ECC6 on AIX 6.1 with oracle 10g.
    I want to take cpio backup , but some files are more than 2 gb, can not copy through cpio.
    any option is there in cpio for backup files more than 2gb?
    I dont't want to use tar.
    regards
    vijay.

    Vijay,
    The cpio command is not enabled for files greater than 2GB in size due to limitations imposed by XPG/4 and POSIX.2 standards.
    cpio does not preserve the sparse nature of any file that is sparsely allocated. Any file that was originally sparse before the restoration will have all space allocated within the filesystem for the size of the file.
    [http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/pseries/v5r3/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.aix.cmds/doc/aixcmds1/cpio.htm]
    check following link for detailed info.
    Hope this helps.
    Manoj
