ECID Propagation and Oracle Technology Adapters - what is supported?

There is a mysterious release note for 11.1.1.1.0 that I think may be inaccurate or perhaps not properly scoped:
*21.1.1.1 ECID Propagation Is Not Supported by Oracle Technology Adapters*
[http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/relnotes.1111/e10133/adapter.htm#CEGBDDJC|21.1.1.1 ECID Propagation Is Not Supported by Oracle Technology Adapters]
I have tested ECID propagation with the JMS JCA Adapter (Composite Reference publishing to JMS and a Composite Service subscribing to JMS) and the ECID is propagated and the context is correlated properly in EM. It has worked properly with both WLS JMS and TIBCO EMS on the back end. I peeked into the mechanism and the JMS JCA Adapter is populating the tracking_ecid, tracking_compositeInstanceId, tracking_parentComponenInstanceId, and tracking_conversationId JMS Message Properties.
Can anyone clarify the restrictions?
-Todd

Hey Todd - good catch!
The capability to propagate ECID was indeed added in the JMS adapter. We need to add some nuance to the above release note: this applies to most technology adapters but not all. Stay tuned and thanks for the heads-up.

  • Oracle technology adapters licensing

    Hi,
If I have Oracle SOA Suite or Weblogic Server that come with Oracle Technology Adapters, can those be taken out of the product and used from some other application server? I need to connect to Oracle AQ from non Oracle app server and would like to take the AQ resource adapter from one of the products we have and install it on another as. Would it be legal? Are there any other licensing options as far as the technology adapters are concerned - can those be obtained separately from middleware products?

  • Uses for the Action Property with SQL and Oracle DB Adapters

This thread is a complement to the Wiki Article
BizTalk: Streamlining WCF SQL and Oracle Messaging-Only and Other Patterns
The question.  In what circumstances is explicitly setting the Action value with the WCF SQL and Oracle DB bindings useful or beneficial.
A complimentary question.  Is it even possible to set the Action value to anything other than exactly what is required by the Message.
I ask because of three very specific behaviors of the bindings themselves:
The binding enforces a match between the Action and the Message, therefore...
There is a one-to-one relationship between the Message and Action, but...
The binding is able to correctly derive and perform the requested operation with the unspecific CompositeOperation.
For clarity, I understand how to set the Action. I. understand what the Action represents in the SOAP scheme. I understand how Action can be used as an abstraction for SOAP operations.
    Thoughts?

Do you have any good suggestion to learn how to use action property with SQL and Oracle DB adapters?  I learn a lot from your replies for years in BizTalk forum. :)

  • XQuery and Oracle XE ...

    Hi all,
One of the major differences between "DB2 Express-C" and "Oracle XE" seems to be, support for XML and XQuery in particular. If I read this right "Oracle XE" is a purely "relational database" whereas "DB2 Express-C" is a "hybrid". (relational and XML).
With the aggressive adoption of various XML technologies (XML, XSD, XPath/XSLT, Xquery ...) we could be seeing a whole new category of "XML rich" or "XML enabled" apps. In this environment, I would like to see Oracle take a leadership position and release a small-footprint, free edition with support for XQuery. It would be helpfull for the "innovators" and would certainly help Oracle sell their bigger DB's down, the line.
Oracle's current position w.r.t "Oracle XE" is certainly baffling. Hopefully someone at Oracle can reply.
    Regards
    /rk

    >
Your suggestion of trying XQuery commands in sql*plus or isql*plus would make sense if there was fundamental support for XQuery in the targetted instance of "Oracle XE". The "datasheet" on "Oracle XE" has absolutely no mention of XQuery.
    >
My question was: Are we talking about a documentation bug or is the XQuery feature really missing in the XE edition?
    >
On the other hand IBM's "DB2 Express-C" is an aggressive, uptodate "hybrid" DB with builtin support for XML (XMLType, XQuery ...) in addition to the proven "relational" model.
    >
That's nice - now if IBM would finally include basic stuff like MVCC or a SP/Trigger/Application-Language like PL/SQL, DB2 Express-C would really become attractive for developers like me. Until then, I think I'll stick with the limits of XE or consider a switch to SE1 if I get the required funding.

  • Looking for comparison between MS Visual Source Safe and Oracle SCM

    Hi,
I am looking for some comparison between MS Visual Source Safe and Oracle SCM.
What I need is technical feature comparison (not just marketing comparison stating that Oracle SCM is better for everything is stored in the very reliable Oracle database(although this is a good point)).
Any help in this area will be helpfull.
    Best regards,
    Mihail Daskalov

    Thanks you for your answer,
I like very much Oracle SCM, which I use extensively.
I have very little experience with MS VSS (only on my local machine). I have never tested it in a network environment with multiple developers.
I would like to convince other developers to switch to Oracle SCM, but I need to know what to tell them.
I'm actually both a developer and DBA, and I do like the safety the Oracle Database offers for storing files inside.
I like very much the opportunity to connect with Oracle Repository Navigator from a remote location to my database through Connection Manager and to be able to work with my projects. (There is an issue with this configuration due to the JDBC driver used I'm unable to compare files).
But to convince people I need to know more about the differences between MS VSS and Oracle SCM.
I would appreciate if any of the developers share experience with VSS and SCM.
    Regards,
    Mihail Daskalov

  • Comparing Max DB and Oracle DB

    Hello,
For those who are familiar with Max DB and Oracle DB.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of Max DB compared to Oracle DB? Which one will you recommend
    Thanks!

    Hi Rushabh,
sounds like you've already taken your decision... so what kind of comparison do you actually want?
If you want one to support this decision - better ask somebody from Oracle
I'm doing support now for both Oracle and MaxDB for over 5 years, I write blogs about Oracle and MaxDB and even on the differences (check my 'mind the gap' mini series if you like.../people/lars.breddemann/blog) and still I find that there is no way to have a compelling comparison of the two databases.
In fact - it's pretty hard to come up with a way to compare any two databases at all without resorting to superficial stuff and feature checklists.
Instead it would be better if you would ask: "Will Oracle/MaxDB/MS SQL Server ... - whatever DBMS - do for us what we need it to do?"
For different usage pattern you will always find arguments for one DBMS and against the other.
E.g. if you want to have low maintenance fees and efforts, than take MaxDB; if you want to be able to tune every little bit of performance and adapt the database in any thinkable way, take Oracle and so on.
If you're happy with Oracle - great. If you're running fine with MaxDB - also: great!
For SAP Systems both options are supported and SAP will help you with both choices to get the best out of it.
For both choices you'll find a  small, medium, large and 'beyond-large' installations.
For both choices you'll find very sucessfull installations and also very unsuccessfull installations.
So, tell us: what do you want to do with your database? Then we can tell you how you should do it with either Oracle or MaxDB.
    regards,
    Lars

  • Propagating ECID through Technological adapters

I recently observed that we cannot propagate ECID (Execution Context ID) from one composite to another if their interaction is through an adapter - AQ, DB etc.
Though it works for JMS Adapter!!
Oracle officially claims that ECID propagation is not supported in Technology Adapters, as the adapters don't support headers.
So it works in JMS case, as the ECID could be passed through JMS Header Properties.
In AQ case, it doesn't. I think the 'USER_PROP' section of AQ could have been used for the same.
I was even thinking if I could set the ECID myself manually in a composite, then I can arrange the passing of ECID somehow in my message.
But not sure if even that is possible.
    Any comments?

This is a bug or limitation in the product.
We opened an SR with Oracle on this.
Bug 14608862 : ECID IS NOT PROPAGATING THROUGH AQ ADAPTER
Provided - Patch 14711224: MERGE REQUEST ON TOP OF 11.1.1.5.0
After patching it worked on 11.1.1.5

Excerpt from above Simba Technologies CEO blog*
One interesting thing we found from some of the Beta customers is that they thought this was an Excel only solution. Yes, we are focusing all the efforts for v1 on Excel, but this is planned to be a full blown MDX provider for Oracle OLAP*. Therefore, you will get the entire MDX query language and this interface will be similar to what you have with Microsoft Analysis Services or SAP Business Warehouse. Although v1 will be ODBO only, we are planning to support XMLA in future versions. The priorities for what we support and when will be customer driven. One question I have is after Excel, which MDX application do you think we should test with and support next:
    1. SAP Business Objects Crystal Reports
    2. SAP Business Objects Voyager
    3. MicroStrategy 9
    4. Microsoft Reporting Services
    5. Microsoft SharePoint BI
    6. IBM Cognos Business Intelligence 8
    7. Panorama NovaView
    .

Thanks very much for your response. Pls find the details as requested. You can reach me in [email protected]
    Environment Details
    - BO XI 3.1 SP4 Enterprise Premium (incl Voyager) on Win2008 R2 [Tomcat Flavour]
    - Oracle 11.2.0.1 Enterprise Edition with OLAP on AIX 6.1
    - Simbha MDXProviderForOracleOLAP v2.1.0.23 on Win2008 R2
Cubes are built using AWM 11.2.0.2A.
To be more specific, the issue occurs when we attempt put a filter on the dimension (or select members of the dimension) both in the existing workspaces or when we try to create a new workspace in Voyager. Attaching the screenshot of the error message.
Kindly let us know incase you would require further information. Also, if you would like to have a webex session where I can show the issue, I am happy to do the same.

  • Xen and Oracle : what's the status?

    Hello
I see from note 1426182 that Xen is not supported for running oracle databases...since we plan to build a 4 nodes cluster on Xen (Sles 11) and oracle is our target db per company policies this looks like a show-stopper
What I don't understand is why VMware managed to get oracle support (althought restricted) and Xen not (I believe oracle vm is running on top of Xen...right)?
Are there any plans for having Xen certified for oracle ?
    Thanks and regards
    Michele

    Hi Michele,
you have correctly pointed out that the technology in the product "Oracle VM" is Xen. So there are obviously no visible technical issues with Oracle on Xen technology. Therefore I assume that there are other reasons why Oracle does not certify Xen in general. You might have to ask Oracle about their reasons.
    Hannes
PS: If you check the Oracle on VMware certification for SAP carefully, it still says that in case of issues Oracle can demand to have the issue reproduced on native hardware....

  • IWay adapters between SAP ERP and Oracle

    Hi,
The systemlandscape in the future is a SAP ERP System without a java stack and a Oracle system.
Importend: And without a SAP Portal and a SAP PI.
I think we will install the iWay Oracle adapter on the SAP ERP system and on the Oracle the iWay for SAP adapter.
I this solution generally possible with iWay adapters or maybe others solution between SAP ERP and Oracle?
    Thank you for all answers.
    Regards
    Richard

    Hi,
    Your question is not clear.
It is true that SAP is no more supporting Dual stack systems because of performance related problems. So, we need to install As ABAP and As Java system separately. As far as oracle is concerned, you need a database to install ERP system then why you want to install adapter ?
    Thanks

    Hi Elad,
Depending on the requirement and the availability we go with implementing a particular database.
For xi point of view there is no difference between oracle and SQL database. However you need to intall the drivers of SQL.
Even there is no difference in the communication channel configuration.
    Reward points if found helpful.
