Eclipse pulsar and S60 5th edition emulator

Hi all,
I'm new in this world but not in the programming world.
In the last month i've tried to develop something to learn JME but I have a blocking problem...
have a windows 2003 R2 server intalled, Eclipse and the S60 5th edition SDK.
When I try to start a sample application (hello world) the emulator reports:
Ready
IPAddress 0.0.0.0
Listening on port 11011
New Incoming connection
Authenticating
Authentication ok.
Installation starting
SWI: Task failed: -15
Installation Error: -15
Socket read error
Cleaning up old data
Agent performs cleanup
Done cleaning
I cannot find anything on this error...
What I'm not doing wrong?
Thanks!

What the hell are you talking about??? N97 and 5800 are different??? N97 for rich-mans??? Hahahahha Just see this comparison, and you will notice, that N97 and 5800 is almost totally the same device:
http://s60blog.com/2008/12/nokia-n97-vs-nokia-5800-xpressmusic/
N97 just more with the keyboard, and hopefully 5800 will get the widget-homescreen too, as both of them has the same operation system (s60v5), resolution and touchscreen...

  • Hostsfile (hosts file) on Symbian S60 5th edition ...

Does anyone know if a hostsfile (or similar function as a hosts file) can be installed and how it can be used on Symbian S60 5th edition (for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic)?
I've found on Wikipedia: ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file ) that it should be possible, it specifies folders where the file should be:
    Symbian OS 6.1-9.0
    C:\system\data\hosts
    Symbian OS 9.1+
    C:\private\10000882\hosts (AllFiles capable only)
but there is no more details about the needed file format, and I couldn't find any application dealing with a hostsfile on Symbian. Apparently, there used to be the Appgate Mobile Client, but I can't find it anymore.
I would appreciate any help/clue about this. Thank you.

    Hi
Yah  INT/5.00.50 and TW/5.00.60 on the N5230 work just fine. 5.00.50 is the last International version but it has a bug when navagating in landscape view, (the map looks out of sync, streets don't line up on the left and right side of the screen). That happens on the N97, N97 mini, N5230, and the Samsung HD, others say it happens on other Nokia phones, but I can't say that because I only have the phones I listed. Anyhow in the Tawain version 5.00.60 this was fixed. As a sidenote it has been rumored that Garmin has discontiued develpoment of there mobile XT product for Symbian because Nokia is offering their own product for free. But map updates will always work no matter what and in my opinion Garmin even without any more updates is and always will be a better mapping program than they very buggy Nokia/OVI Maps 3*..Lastly I am using Garmin on all my phones because Nokia/OVI maps 3.* turn by turn doesn't work properly on any of the phones I have, it is off by 250yards, (in back of) the actually position, (it tells you turn 250 yards after you already turned, crazy!) Whereas Nokia.OVI Maps V2.* never had that problem. I really wish Nokia would fix there current bugs before adding more buggy features...

  • Check Frequency Used on S60 5th edition (850 or 19...

    Hey,
I have a nokia 5800 xpressmusic (unlocked USA version.) It runs S60 5th edition.
I am considering getting a phone which only supports AT&T's 1900 mhz, and not their 850 mhz (it is primarily a European phone which also has 900/2100 mhz.)
Without getting into a discussion on which phone to get, can anyone tell me how to check what frequency is in use on my 5800?
    Thanks,
    Mike

There is no tool that I know of that will show which frequency is in use.  But I do know that in most major cities AT&T uses the 1900Mhz signal and they use the 850Mhz signal in rural areas.  The 850 towers are converted analog towers and the 1900 towers are dedicated digitals.
Using a Non US phone on AT&T's network, you will get Spotty to Good service in major cities (if the phone is a quadband phone) and limited to no service in rural areas.  Most of the time the Non US phone will be on AT&T free roaming networks most likely with T-Mobile(T-Mobile uses 2100Mhz in major cities); it will most likely say AT&T on the phone and you will not be charged a roaming fee.  I hope this helps.

  • S60 5th edition/ Nokia 5800 & N97

With the Nokia 5800 being the first Nokia to have the s60 5th edition OS, and N97 soon to follow, who thinks that the 5800 is being used as a end-user testing device for the upcoming N97.
dont get me wrong, i its not a bad idea, but i just wonder if 5800 owners will get some of the features which has been shown on the N97 such as live widgets on the home screen for example which looks absolutely brilliant.
what do you guys out there think?

  • Is there any Eclipse Pulsar and JCDE Plugin for Java Card 2.2.1?

    Hi Friends..
I want to know is there any Eclipse Pulsar and JCDE Plugin that still supports for Java Card 2.2.1?
Actually, currently i use Eclipse Pulsar and JCDE Plugin but it support only for Java Card 2.2.2..
I tried to set the Java Card Preference into JCDK 2.2.1, but it couldn't be set because converter.jar isn't compatible..
    Please help me regarding this..
    Thanks in advance..

There is, but it's very limited.
    1. Put the Library on a disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    2. Point both machines at it.
    3. That's it.
    But remember:
A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.
    Also
Only one user can open a library at a time.

  • Difference between S60 and S60 3rd Edition

    Hello.
This is not so much bout updating the phone's software but more about the phone's Operating system itself so hope this is in the right place.
I have an N91 that comes with Symbian S60 3rd Edition. I wanted to install a screen reader so that I can use all the features of this phone (as I'm partially sighted) but it just would not install. Not sure whether this had something to do with unsigned applications, but that's another issue.
I looked on the website and i think it did mention something about the application only being compatible with Synbian S60 phones and not S60 erd Edition. So my question is, how different are the two versions of the operating system? I'm more of a PC guy myself, so in PC terms would it be, say, the difference between Windows XP and 2000, built on the same basic foundation but with some differences, or say, the difference between Windows XP and 98, two totally different systems?
Also, how difficult would it be to migrate program code from an S60 platform to the 3rd Edition platform, and therefore how long roughly would you say it would be before the application could be released?
Finally, is there such a thing as an S60 emulator, so maybe I could run the screen reader in S60 mode until an S60 3rd edition version comes out? The emulator question would also hold for he fact that I want to be able to run some applications I used to run on my Nokia 6630 (Symbian S60) on my N91.
Thanks in advance for your help, and sorry for the long post and many questions. I guess I'm just so excited at finally having this new phone i want to make the most of it lol.

Hi and thanks for your reply. sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I am just doing this more for a hobby than as a 'proper' project, as I doubt I'd actually get anywhere- and if I did it'd probably be a fluke. I'm going to download all the SDK's so I can at least get the actual code of the program, as at the moment it's just in its .sis form. then maybe I can at least see where the changes are, and any transformation into an S60 3rd Edition (or is it S9.1?) is just good luck I guess.

  • S60 5th edition and emoticons

Hi, I just updated my C6-00 to version 40.0.021 (the 05/2011 update). It seems that this version enabled graphical emoticons in SMS messages. This is undestandable as the feature has been requested on a regular basis, but why was it added with no option to turn them off? The character combinations that are used to make emoticons are not always meant as such, and in those cases this force-fed feature is definitely not wanted. Please don't bother to offer downgrading as a solution, the previous version had its own severe problems which I'm hoping to see fixed in the future.

  • Firmware 30 released symbian s60 5th edition

the new firmware is great for 5530 xpress music the music players new look is great when you scroll down the first letter of the song name appears on your screen and i noticed that the sound quality has improved when using headphones before i would leave out any song with the slitest bit of bass but now i can listen to them all, the update has really improved from firmware 20 version 30 is much more stable before is your phone crashed you would most likely have no response from the phone and would have to take the battery out but now all you do is lock the phone and unlock it wait a few seconds until the clock reappears on your homescreen and away you go,the web browser has had a annoying update it automatically go to fullscreen when you are browsing and is a pain when you try to browse a big web page.
Symbian Developer, if I can help out just give me a bell.

Have you checked for firmware updates?

  • Watch this video. Facebook app on s60 5th edition.

Watch this video, it show the Nokia n97 running a facebook application that runs similar to the iphone app.
why has this not yet been released for the Nokia 5800. instead, we're stuck with the stupid mobile site which doesnt work well at all.
    what do you think?
    Link to video...
    http://www.notebooks.com/2009/04/07/nokia-n97-vide/

When you access Facebook through the phone's built-in browser, the Facebook website detects that you are using a mobile browser and displayes the mobile version of the web site. Most websites today detect your browser and act accordingly, this allows them to check if your browser is compatible with their content and advise you if you need to upgrade.
In the case of mobile browsers, it gives you the less data-intensive version, but this does not mean you can't select the "Full site" link at the very bottom of the mobile page. This is only advisable, however, if you are connected via WLAN or have a fixed-rate data plan, as Facebook will pile up the megabytes pretty quick.

  • Eclipse Pulsar question

Hi, I'm trying to find out what the differences are between using the physical phone connection with eclipse pulsar and just using the emulator. If anyone could be of any assistance or could point me in the direction of somewhere where I could read more about it I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Not all devices are the same, and that goes for the emulator too. Even in my relatively limited experience of JavaME development I've come across code which behaves differently on the emulator and device. In short: the emulator is very useful for earlier development as its fast to run and operate, but towards release time there's no substitute for debugging on the device you actually intend to deploy on, and a physical connection will help you do that by running your App in its intended environment while showing you useful console log on the PC.

  • N95, N96 dual CPU, N97 single? Dual CPU s60 5th ed...

I've been playing around with Nokia's new QT development stuff. It's all pretty neat. It would be even better if I could use it to develop for Symbian under Linux or Mac, but that asides..
I came across a list of platform types:
Installer for all S60 5.0 (5th Edition) devices with a single CPU, such as the N97 and 5800 XpressMusic
Seems reasonable, but I also saw:Installer for all S60 5.0 (5th Edition) devices with dual CPUs
Hmmmm.. dual CPU S60 5th edition?
It lists some S60 3rd edition dual cpu phones too: N95 and N96
So, why exactly is the N95/N96 dual cpu, but the N97 isn't? Sure that was a step backwards?
Interesting though.. I wonder what the first dual CPU S605th phone will be? Presumably, something faaar better than the somewhat dull N97! I mean, honestly.. who wouldn't put a decent GPU in their flagship phone? presumably the same people who would put OS storage in double digit MB.. grrrr ..

I aggree, however I'm not sure these devices are frog leaping to that extent.
In the case of the N95, the dual core refers to core CPU and an additional DSP and GPU
    N95: OMAP2420 - 330 MHz ARM1136 + 220 MHz C55x DSP + PowerVR MBX GPU
The N97, however,is of the same architecture (ARMv6) but with a higher clock rate (434MHz) It isn't a new generation chip per se. It's just running faster.. and without the GPU..
The N96 is a bit different.. Apparently the difference between the N95 v N96:
CPU: N96 has dual ARM9 264MHz with no floating point instructions (N95 has dual ARM11 332Mhz with vector floating point or graphics accelerator)
So, the N97 has the speed of the ARM11 from the N95, but all of the same missing features as the N96.. more or less..
This makes the prospect of a dual cpu s60 5th all the more intriguing
