Eclipse SLI CPU fan always on max

Hello i got a problem with my Eclipse SLI. It's look like the CPU smart fan function don't work and the CPU fan is on max all the time.
My bios temp's goes from 32-40 C. I have used a lot of different bios versions. 1.4 - 1.7 - 1.9 - 1.a none of those could fix it.
Eclipse SLI
Intel i7 920 - standard clock
hope anyone got a good answer to my question. thx

They have a switch for "always maximum cooling" and "temperature controlled speed". Check your CPU fan - it may help to read the CPU installation instructions as they show where the switch is. I would guess that you have it in the wrong position, so your BIOS can't do anything...

  • MSI 970a-g43 CPU fan always at 100% when fast boot or MSI Fast Boot is enabled

I turned on fast boot in my motherboard in my BIOS but now whenever I boot into windows the CPU fan is always at 100%. I really like the performance gain from fast boot, however I can't stand the CPU fan always at 100%. The fan normally runs at ~1150rpm when its off but when its on it runs full blast ~2800rpm.
    My specs are:
    MSI 970a-g43
    AMD FX 6300
MSI HD 7870 OC Edition (Flashed with GOP vBios)
    2x4 8gb DDR3 g.skillz ram

I have it set to 55c smart fan control in the BIOS. With fast-boot off it works perfectly. It seems like its not lowering the fan like it normally does when its on. If I go into the BIOS and reset it it'll work fine the first time, but after that it'll do the 100% fan speed all the time.

If you turn EIST off you should be able to put the multiplier to a specific number between 12 and 21 (or higher if you have an unlocked Extreme CPU) and that is where it will stay.
I believe that is exactly what i did, i disabled EIST, C1E and set multiplier to 21, however, when i run a stability test(Prime95 or Linx) it always drops the multiplier down from 21x to 20x.
It seems to me turbo mode is still working when it is supposed to be disabled when you set multiplier to 21(or maybe it is just simply won't allow x21 multiplier to be used at full load anyway, turbo mode on or off).

Very good point Jack. There you go ravescar & others, give that a try & see if it makes a difference. smile
I experimented a bit with Overspeed Protection enabled and disabled, however i did not notice any difference in this regard, the multiplier still drops to 20 on high load for me.
However this problem do not happen if i set multiplier to 20, it is only the 21 multiplier that have this issue.
    This is on a MSI X58 Eclipse SLI Motherboard + i7 920 D0 stepping + 6gb GSKILL Trident 16000 CL9 RAM.

BTW. I've read of a couple of cases where DO stepping 920's getting 22x with Turbo enabled but I'll remain skeptical regarding the validity.
Maybe it is just earlier version of cpu-z mis-reporting multiplier?

  • Cpu fan stuck at max speed

Out of nowhere, my computer (early 2006 20" Intel iMac) started making huge fan noises. The iStat pro widget shows that the CPU fan is blowing at 3600 rpm (apparently the max), and the other two fans are normal. CPU usage is minimal, and CPU temperature is low (30-40 degrees C), so there's no good reason for the fan to go to the max.
I've tried (several times) to reset the SMC, but it doesn't help. A couple times over the past five days, it's gone back to normal, but then it soon goes back to max.
Anybody experienced anything like this? Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Neil

    I have the same problem,
I know a lot about computers (for not a professional) and after doing anything i can without opening the case,(SMC reset, Vram reset, safeboot and starting on verbose,Apple hardware test)
In my specific problem the facts are
    4SNS/1/40000000:'TmOP' from apple hardware test
Cpu Fan: 3604rpm (really high) this is the logic board fan
the other 2 fans are normal
    Cpu tmp: 28 C (low)
GPU diode 127 C (ridiculously high - no tmp variation) from Istat pro
Memory controller 127 C (ridiculously high - no tmp variation)
all the other temperatures, as the cpu ,are a little bit lower than normal which is normal because of the high speed fan
that means logically that the system is reading a 127 Celsius tmp in these places
and the fan is responding right
So the tmp sensor is sending a false tmp
there are 3 sensors this one is on the logicboard and you cannot change it
i went to a certified apple service provider and we open the case together,
as i wanted to be there.
I hoped with some dust cleaning or something position related we could do something but no, after checking every possible solution,
needs a logiboard replacement that he (like me) did not recommended (very expensive)
Other than the fan noise there is(until now) no other symptom, in OSX or XpPro
so I'm not going to pay about 700 euro (for everything) for this machine
I'm positive (i checked it myself) that there is nothing hot inside, just the sensor circuit is stuck at these tmp
If the the fan dies sooner its much cheaper and i can even replace it myself
I 'm very sad and disappointed with this solution but what can i do?
It is just 2 months after the warranty! and i know that this is a logicboard defect
the ironic thing is that before that happened i was thinking o upgrading the Cpu 2.0CD to a 2.33C2D (yes you can, if you really want) but now i 'm going to leave it like this and sometime buy a new thing (not an imac again!) a mac pro if i am richer or a decent PC
I really like macs and everything, but the compact feature when the time comes may have a compact problem!
the other funny thing is that they offer me a job in the Service place but i am an artist
Good luck and i hope someone finds a solution or something else

  • Mai eclipse sli CPU problem

Just got new i7 970 CPU and for some strange reason the bios setting for turbo boost is greyd out and another thing when I run the msi overclocking tool it reports only 4 cores not 6, in device manager is showe all 12 threads but when I look at the performance manager it shows only 8 threds anyone can suggest anything?
    I am running:
    6x2gb OCD gold 1600
    Intel i7 970
    Msi eclipse sli bios 1.13
    Radeon 5870
    And a few drives
I replaced intel i7 940 which worked great

Starting to sound like it is CPU/socket related. Sometimes a CPU reseat will help. Uneven downward pressure on the CPU by the cooler can cause these symptoms. The socket pins should probably be very closely inspected for any that may be bent or broken. The CPU contact pads each checked for solid contact. Before pulling the CPU, try with only one stick RAM in the primary (A0) black dimm slot & check for results. If you do pull the CPU, be sure to remove the PSU power cord & clear CMOS before starting up the system again.

  • CPU Fan always ramps up to 100%

I rebuild my PC with a new Mobo MSI Z77 Mpower. I have build over 100 PCs. I know how to set the bios and change the CPU speed etc. The CPU fan goes 1005 and only allows me to set the degree temp. Waht temperature is a good one to set to get about 50% CPU fan speed. Amy I missing the CPU fan speed setting if, so please point me in the right direction.
I know about Control Center and this works once the PC is booted up, but having to change this every time I boot is getting frustrating.
I am no doubt overlooking something. Thanks for your help.

Does your fan control look similar to this ?
If so, try the settings that I am using. It most certainly works for my PWM fan control.

  • CPU Fan Speed always LOW? -- K8N NEO4 Platinum SLI

I'm wondering if anyone can help me out. My CPU fan speed is consistently around 850 RPM, both at idle and under full load. This is shown in the BIOS, with Corecenter, Everest, and Speedfan. I have Cool n Quiet disabled in the BIOS, CPU Fan Target in BIOS set to 40 deg (have had it at 60 as well), and Windows Power Scheme set to Minimal Power Management. I've even tried enabling Cool n Quiet to see if it actually did anything...but fan speed is still the same.
It seems everyone else has CPU fan speeds in the thousands rpms. Mine never changes, is always around 850.
My CPU temps vary between 37C idle and 48 load when my ambient room temps are around 75 deg.
What's up with my CPU fan?
EDIT: Speedfan doesn't seem to work for adjusting anything. It only shows my CPU (fan2) and NB (fan3) fan speed, but adjusting the percentages has no effect.

Try setting cpu fan speed to max to access this open corecentre & click on logo.
    should give:-
Select user mode & set Fan to max. This info is held in the corecentre chip & is the only way to access it .
Only keep corecentre installed for this function
    hope this helps.

  • Command Center keeps reverting to CPU fan manual mode

    some background:
i've had this system for a few months now running with no issues. back when i just got it, i ran into a problem with MSI Gaming App, where the 3 fixed modes would either run unjustifiably loud for the temps, or too quiet and hot. this is in comparison to prior installing the application. after i uninstalled it, the fans continued to behave as if on Gaming Mode, which was the last setting before removal of the application. being unable to trace the source of the setting, i did a Windows restore point to just prior first installation of the Gaming App, and sure enough - the fans calmed down, and temps returned to manageable ~32c.
today i gave a try to these apps seeing that they went through some upgrades. i played around with MSI Gaming App, and the Command Center to try the OC Genie/OC Mode features which appear to be the same thing. After noticing very marginal improvement in benchmarks i decided to go back to normal.
In the course of rerunning different benchmarks with and without OC Mode, i noticed that every time the system would reboot out of the OC Mode into Silent Mode, the fans would spin, but be rather quiet and temps would start to rise 50 and over with practically no load on the system. If i rebooted back into Gaming Mode, the fans would be loud, but with no system load the temps still about 10 degrees higher than before i installed these applications.
In Command Center i noticed that after each such reboot, the CPU fan always gets reverted to Manual Mode. I would change this to Smart Mode and hit Apply, yet after the next reboot the fans would again be in Manual Mode. I'm on the verge of again doing a restore point to get rid of these apps once and for all, but before i do that does anyone have any ideas of what is happening? this seems like clearly a software issue, as without involving MSI software the fans and temps behave just fine.
I found another thread where this was reported with another mobo, another processor, and a much earlier version of CC 1.0.0.83 or 87. mine is 1.0.0.97.
    thanks for your time.

  • MSI Eclipse Sli and Asus 6950 Direct CU II problem

I’ve recently bought the Asus 6950 Direct CU II 2GB. After I installed it a weird buzzing sound started coming from around the area, where the big heat sink below the cpu socket sits. That only happened when the graphics card was on high profile and particularly when I was in any game.
About a month later my card stopped working properly so thinking it was its fault I used the warranty and got it replaced. However with the new card the system won’t even start. My monitor goes from “Please check signal cable” to “No signal” and apparently the system is not even moving past the bios checks.
The weird think is that when I use my old card (MSI R4870 1GB) the system seems to work properly!!! I tried the 6950 in two different systems and it seems to be working….
I’ve tried resetting the bios removing other devises to test the power supply etc., but nothing works, I can only think that something is wrong with the motherboard.
Any ideas on what might be wrong???
    My system is:
    MB: MSI Eclipse Sli
    CPU: Core I7 920
PSU: TAGAN TG700-U88 PIPEROCK SERIES 700W
    RAM: 3 x CORSAIR TR3X6G1600C9 Triple DDR3
HDD: WD Velociraptor 150GB for the OS

Thanks for the timely reply HU16E.
I don't have another psu available right now but I will in 3 days so I will try that.
On the other hand I have mine working as a single rail from the day I bought it (turbo mode switch on the psu), but i am not sure how this can be connected.
Also while I was playing around with the system it started up, only once, with the 6950, and that happened with everything connected so I still can't figure what the hell is happening!!!! I am thinking that something on the pcie port is wrong so i tried on the other ports too, yet nothing happened.
I am still leaning towards the motherboard but any other ideas would be welcomed.

  • New ECLIPSE SLI Build, but not POSTing

    Hello MSI peeps,
Installed MB, CPU, CPU cooler, 1 stick of RAM, SSD, HD, PSU, 1 Video card and Optical drives, but cannot get it to POST.
I powered up and the MB is showing light blue indicators on installed components, but no video signal going to monitor.
I shut down, then connected DLED2 and powred up and DLED2 says CPU.ini, which means CPU error on POST, but is this really true?  I have read allot of everyone's posts on this forum where all claim that DLED2 is faulty.
I am thinking that I may have plugged in too many drives and will disconnect the HD and optical drives to see if that may be the problem....should I also try to reset CMOS too?

    Thanks for your inputs!!!

    Hey All,
Thanks for the help, but still no change....to save you having to read every thread, basically my build won't go to post.
DLED2 reads that it is CPU.ini and of course I questioned hte validity of the DLED2 reading as I have read other threads claiming that DLED2 is faulty.....so thanks to those who have replied, I have tried everything suggested, but the build still won't post....no beeps, no video signal, but the mobo and video card LEDs indicate no issue.
Is it RMA time or should I try something else?  Should I just RMA the board or should I also RMA the CPU too?
    Thanks for your help!

  • How can i get the max rpm from cpu fan??

how can i get the max rpm from my cpu cooler regarding that i don't have a speed controller attached to the cpu fan ,,, ??  please make things clear for me
    thanks

if you have not reduced it by using a speed controller either hardware or software or by the 7v mod its already going as fast as it will at 12 v dc you cannot speed it up only slow it down
need more air get a different cooler/fan

  • Fans always max speed from boot

    Hi,
my macbook pro unibody (15") has fans always on at maximum speed even. No matter the temperature of cpu or % of CPU activity (smcfan is of no use). Batteries drained in one hours...no use of a portable,
After an hardware check it seems some temperature sensor were not working properly.
I've got my logic board changed and.......fans keep running at top speed and now also keyboard backlight is gone....any suggestion...I'll ask to change the machine that is clearly faulty somewhere...
    Any hints from Apple?
    Ciao
    Nik

Have you tried running the extended version of the Apple Hardware test? If you get an error code indicating the sensors, it may be that they were not properly plugged into the logic board following the logic board replacement. If the sensors are not sensing the temperature, the fans will run all out by default. If the sensors themselves are faulty, then replacing the logic board will not cure the problem.
For the backlight, check in System preferences>Keyboard & Mouse> Keyboard and make sure the box is checked to illuminate the keyboard under low light conditions. If it is and the keyboard still does not light, the keyboard backlight flex cable may not have been well seated.
Who did the repair? Apple or an AASP? If the latter, it may be worth trying someone different. It sounds like the logic board replacement may not have been done as carefully as it should have been.
    Good luck!

  • Max CPU fan that can be installed

Newbie here......... Was wondering what the maximum power rating of the CPU Fan Header on the MSI Neo2 FIS2R is. Can I install a 90x90x25 fan rated at .32A on it.

Well I have my little Rule of, Anything over 1/4 Amp. is better off on it's own PSU Molex Dongle (As it should be a 4 Pin connection with 1/3 of an Amp and above). I have Heard that 1/3 of an Amp is The MAX for a Boards Fan Header, But Like I said, why Chance over 1/4 if you can use the PSU for Power, and Just splice into the Wire, and Use the RPM Monitoring Pin of the CPU's 3 pin Fan Header......And you Have to Look to make sure that is the MAX Amp Rating, Because these Fans Use More Power uppon initial Startup, then their Continiuos Amp Draw...But Again this is just my Opinion, and I am Far from knowing all that much...........Sean REILLY875

  • CPU Fan is always at 5000+ RPM!!!

So I did an upgrade today. I now have a P4 3.0E (prescott) processor, an MSI 865PE Neo2-PFS (Platinum Edition), 1GB of DDR400 RAM, and a new pci-firewire card
The minute I hooked this sucker up everything worked, but the cpu fan is always at 5000+ RPM (as reported in the bios pc health monitor). I thought the motherboard lowered the cpu rpm depending on the temperature, but apparently it's CoreCenter. I use linux and obviously cannot install CoreCenter. Is there any other way I can get my fan to lower it's speed? maybe an equivalent linux software that does the job?

I Agree With Mr. Moleman, as with all of the Heat related Issues that have been Plaguing the Prescott, I would NOT Be Supprised if it is Written into the Latest Precott Microcode in the BIOS, to Run the Stock INTEL Thermal Solution at 100% Speed.................Sean REILLY875

First of all, I have Bios version 1.3 from the .de support Page.
    I don´t know, why .com.tw doesn´t have this version.
    But here´s my problem:
    PC Alert doesn´t show a CPU-fan speed!
The northbidge fan shows the fan speed roundabout 5000.
    In BIOS CPU Fan ~2500
    PC ALert versions:
    4.005
    4.006
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Thank You for the reply,
Before the latest update to PCAlert4 it was working properly, I cross checked the reported info. to that of Sandra, MBM, and in the bios.
Also the temps are only swapped between the system temp. and the CPU temp., other than that they are correct.
