Eclipse Tomcat and lots of pain
Hi All,
while working on JSP i thought it will be nice to have an IDE so i installed eclipse with tomcat already running on system.
now as a new user i discovered eclipse uses its own server instance rather than using the server which is already running (and there are pros and cons this too)
however due to some requirements i need to use the server installation for development... i changed the server path from .metadata to localhost..(should it work fine now?)
no its not... may be i need to set eclipse with some more steps to use my current installation of tomcat... what all they are honestly i don't know... plz help
as the wiki page is quite confusing when each like results in ''may or may not" statement....:(
to my horror ...i am able to run jsp pages ???!!!! the tomcat main service in control panel is stopped... eclipse server will not start showing the port already in use error(is there a way to fix it without changing the port?)
-Please help with : How to setup eclipse to use the orignal server installation?
Thanks!!

Sometimes when i try to start the server from eclipse it will not start saying port 8080 is already in use (i don’t want to change it for eclipse as localhost is using 8080 only)... The server is not going to lie; if it says this then there really is something still listening on the socket, which means a previous instance of the server might not have stopped properly for example.
last eve i created a war file and deployed it on my tomcat sever it was working fine. Then again the same issue sometimes the JSP page will crash showing HTTP-500 error (with no changes made).
Hard to say what might be wrong without the exception stacktrace that should come with the error 500 - check the server logs when it happens.
While diagnosing the problem i stopped my eclipse server; stopped the control panel tomcat service as well; but i am still able to run the JSP programs and its also showing tomcat home page...Yeah well thats the biggest issue then; tomcat is failing to stop when triggered from Eclipse.

I used a port listening utility and its showing javaw.exe is using 8080 port (could this be a reason for this strange behaviour?)Of course!

Should i again to ahead and reinstall eclipse from scratch?
It might help, but it sounds more like an issue with the Eclipse plugin that controls the server connection. Which version of Eclipse are you using?
Are you stuck with Eclipse by the way? You could also give Netbeans 6.8 a try; I have had absolutely no problems with it in combination with Tomcat 6, although with Netbeans it is easiest to use the bundled Tomcat that comes with it in stead of configuring an instance yourself.

what is to change to start tomcat from eclipse ???
thanks -
I'm trying to run a jsp project using eclipse europa and tomcat. Frequently when I try to run the project i get the error:
"Several ports (8005,8080,8009) required by Tomcat v6.0 Server at localhost are already in use. The server may be already running in another process, or a system process maybe using the port. To start this server you will need to stop the other process or change the port number(s)"
This comes up even when I have only one server setup in eclipse and it is stopped. I have no other application running at the same time.
The problem fixes itself for a while when I reboot the computer, but not when I just restart eclipse ...
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have been stuck with this problem for a while.
ThanksMert wrote:
just change the port addresses to any port address which doesn't conflict. What ports you are suggesting to change? Even If you change Tomcat port that is 8080 to 8081 or something else it is bound to give errors on 2 other ports (8005,8009).
I think in background some Tomcat server is still running that is why OP sees all three required ports busy.
What is the platform that is being used?
If this is a windows then see Task Manager > Processes and stop all processes for java.exe and javaw.exe (Your Eclipse will be also terminated so save everything before that). Restart Eclipse and server from within and let us know the result.
If platform is linux end all processes for java and javaw (Your Eclipse will be also terminated so save everything before that). Restart Eclipse and server from within and let us know the result.

Load Balancing, Tomcat, and SharePoint
I'm a new BusinessObjects customer and am working on getting all of the hardware in place for a new install. The initial plan is to have two BOE servers, and two tomcat virtual servers, with a hardware based load balancer (F5 BIG-IP Switch: Local Traffic Manager 1600 4GB, possibly) in front of the tomcat servers to handle the load balancing.
But, I'm starting to think that it would be a good idea for us to integrate directly in to our SharePoint portal using the SAP SharePoint Integration option.
So, here's my question. If we do that, then our users will get to their BusinessObjects information via SharePoint. So, SharePoint and IIS will be the web server. Will we still have a need for the Tomcat servers? Will SharePoint point to the load balancer, then to Tomcat, and finally to the BOE server, or will it go right to the BOE server, thus negating the need for the tomcat servers altogether, and also even negating the need for the load balancer? If so, can the BOE app servers themselves still be load balanced?
Hopefully this all makes sense - like I said, we're a new customer, so I don't fully understand all of what the servers are doing. I've spent several days searching the forums & the web & reading documentation and haven't come up with an answer yet, so I'm reaching out to you all & hoping somebody can clear it up for me. Thanks!!Thank you for your input, Denis, this does help explain things. Also, thanks for pointing me to that Windows Patterns document. I hadn't seen that one - since we're starting out on 4.0, I've only been looking at documents under the 4.0 folders...
It sounds like we may want to utilize this same load balancer to balance the SharePoint traffic as well, while we're at it. Right now our SharePoint server is clustered using Microsoft Clustering, but not load balanced in any way. Or maybe we just post a link from within SharePoint to the regular old BI LaunchPad and call it a day!
So, if I understand correctly, if we utilize SharePoint, any traffic/processing that the Tomcat server would have handled would now be handled by the SharePoint server, which could potentially be significant. The actual processing of the reports, though, will still get handled by the BOE Cluster, which takes care of its own load balancing, so we'll be fine. Really the only thing the hardware load balancer does is allow the presentation layer to be load balanced - the layers beyond that get load balanced automatically via CMS. Is that all somewhat valid? In the patterns doc, there's Application Servers separate from the BOE Servers. We were just going to have two BOE servers and two Web servers. Where do the application servers fall in, and are they load balanced using the hardware piece?
If we were just concerned about High Availability, it seems like maybe we could more easily use Windows Clustering on those Tomcat servers, and avoid the hardware component altogether. Do the Web servers really get hammered that hard that we need them load balanced? It seems like the BOE servers are the ones doing the heavy resource intensive tasks and we get them load balanced without the hardware anyway, so maybe load balancing the web servers is overkill..... I'm sure a lot of this is tough to answer, I'm just trying to get a feel for it. I want us to have our best performance & be somewhat future-proofed, but don't want to buy things that I don't need to! We're probably looking at a small, 10-20 concurrent user setup for starters, and out to say 200 concurrent max once it's fully rolled out...
Thanks again!! -
Debug web service by tomcat and intellij idea
Any idea how to debug web services using idea.I have read
http://www.wso2.net/tutorials/axis2/java/2006/07/28/debug-ws
and it didn't worked for me.
thanks+1. From the View menu choose Application Server Navigation+
Right click the Application Server node and choose New Application Server and then follow the instructions to create a Tomcat connection.
+2. Create an EAR or WAR deployment profile depending on what is in your application - and then you can right click the project and choose Deploy to...->Tomcat connection you defined.+
I followed these steps but that only created a .war file with only one directory inside it "WEB-INF" with two files "faces-config.xml" and "web.xml".
The ant target (from my build.xml file that was delivered with the code) was not used at all and I can see no way of connecting it with the deploy profile.
If I use the target (in the build.xml file) to build my application I do get a .war file I can use. (When putting that in the tomcat webapps directory it is used by tomcat and an application directory is created by tomcat. I can then logg into it (http://localhost:8080/myapplication).
Note however, that that .war file is used in a tomcat that has been started with:
NET START Tomcat6
Not as recommended in http://technology.amis.nl/blog/1984/java-platform-debugger-architecture-jpda-with-tomcat-oc4j-eclipse-intellij-idea-and-jdeveloper
That is with:
SET JPDA_ADDRESS=8000
SET JPDA_TRANSPORT=dt_socket
catalina.bat jpda start
So the question is, how can I use the defined ant target in my build.xml file PLUS the new tomcat server connection TOGETHER so I get something that will hopefully run. -
Tomcat and Apache/Tomcat is the same?
Hello,
Im new to jsp and somedays ago I asked here a question and the solution was about installing Apache or Apache/Tomcat.
Now, my question is the following.
When I started to learn jsp , what I did were to install Tomcat. After reading some questions in these forums I do not know what is the difference between the installation of Tomcat and the installation of Apache/Tomcat.
What I have done for the moment is to have a server with Apache and another server for my jsp pages with Tomcat....
Does it means that it is possible to integrate two installations in only one server and to run all the pages in the same server? Where can I find information about that?
Thanks a lot and regards,
PattyTomcat has an HTTP listener built in, so you don't necessarily need Apache to run Tomcat and serve up HTML, JSP, and servlets.
But if you want to have Apache handle static HTML and forward servlet/JSP requests to Tomcat, there are docs at the Tomcat site to tell you how to bolt Tomcat onto Apache.
The Wrox book "Professional Apache Tomcat" has good instructions, too. I've done it successfully many times. - MOD -
Virgo Tools for Eclipse Luna and Mars
Hi all,
I tried to install the Virgo Tools both in Eclipse Luna and in Mars (JEE packages), from this update site:
"Virgo IDE Releases" - http://download.eclipse.org/virgo/release/tooling
- Eclipse Virgo Tools 1.0.1.201302270038-RELEASE
but I got errors (see below).
Instead all il working well with Kepler.
Some suggestions?
Thank you very much.

Ok, I have deleted EVERYTHING off my 16gb ipad. Photos, music, apps. All I have are the standard apps. It says I have used 11gb and only have 1.6 left. When I first bought it I had up to 4 movies and lots of apps, no problems. What's going on please!?
How much space is used by your Other? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

I live in Iran
Yesterday I wanted to use iTunes store for windows ; when i have open iTunes it gives me the error 0x80090318 .
I have search the web alot and i have check lots of Iranian and English website but have not find any solution for
this problem . Today I have find a software called "Hide my IP" i have opened up that
when this software was opened , itunes have said "iTunes can't verify the identify of the server "init.itunes.apple.com"".
then i have click on "continue" then iTunes said "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. An unknown error occurred (310)."
And theres a matter that i think that have a connection with this topic and thats , that when i want to go to the lots
of websites like Google Yahoo! Mail and lots of other website my both browser ( FireFox and IE ) will say" This connection is untrusted " .
I think the solution of my second problem is the solution of my first problem too !Tried all the rest on this site did not work for me
Follow the link below & this one sorted it for me, it was a conflict in programs using Winsock & I got rid of my old program,
Sorted.

I recently started using an iPad. I up loaded several apps. Evernote, cloudon, Goodreader, Drop Box and lots of others.
It crashes when I down load pictures and then try to use them. Converting a jpg to a pdf usually triggers a crash.
Is there a "hitch" in my "giddy up?"

Are you using the "Print to PDF" dialogue to convert your jpegs to pdf?
In addition to OT's test, you might also check, if using a different "Theme" for printing will avoid the crash:
14 com.apple.AppKit 0x912a52e4 _NSDrawThemeBackground + 1429
15 com.apple.AppKit 0x9145edeb -[NSThemeFrame
You crashlog shows, that iPhoto crashes, when trying to draw the "Print" theme background. There could be a problem wit the installed themes. Can you convert any jpegs to pdf, not only the jpegs downloaded from your iPad?

Lots and Lots of video tracks...
Hello Ya'all:
Just reporting some bugs/discoveries I made in FCP 5.0.3, when using storage which is almost infinetesimally fast. I know FCP supports a maximum of 99 video tracks, but I wonder how many have actually been tested (realistically): Here's some problems I have when doing lots and lots of video tracks:
Qty. Description
Up to 10 Fine - no problem.
12 Program intermittently crashes with no error, when
sitting idle.
14 The scroll bar on the right side of the video
portion of the timeline stops drawing properly,
but the crashing above goes away.
16 Crashing is back - scroll bar still not operating
properly.
20 Crashing stops, but scroll bar still not drawing
correctly.
24 Same as above.
25 Seem to have hit some sort of maximum, as the
video portion of the timeline header turns red.I rant for lots of reasons...as does Jim.
I rant when someone with NO CLUE as to the post production process tries to tackle a complex process thinking that FCP is easy. Especially when said people, who previously edited home movies or short films on FCP, suddenly think they can edit broadcast television.
I rant when people think a simple plugin will edit for them, or suddenly make everything ready for broadcast.
I rant when someone assumes that FCP can do something it cannot, and is mad for FCP not being able to do it.
I rant when people don't do their research, buy gear, shoot hours and hours, only to find that it won't work on ANY system...and they blame the system for not working with the new gear, even though the gear came out AFTER the system.
But mainly I rant for the first reason. Too many people think that editing is easy and that they can just buy a G5, monitor, camera and a few books and be ready for Prime Time. No no no. Even Robert Rodriguez, the ultimate film rebel, took a long time to learn what he learned. I have spent a large part of my career learning post production...broadcast standards, specs, color correction, show timing, audio post...not to mention the art of storytelling. And it really gets on my nerves when someone thinks that they can take an Mac Mini and camcorder and edit a broadcast show...and get angry at Apple for things not working properly.
Get the proper tools. Get the proper training. Cut your chops by editing a lot and a lot and a lot. Research everything before you buy and jump into a project with a huge deadline. I am venturing into HD...I start editing next week...I have been researching the topic since July and am STILL testing gear and my workflow.
I am sure there are plenty more reasons I rant, but those are the ones off the top of my head. I just have little patience with people who think that editing is easy and instantaneous. It is hard and time consuming, and if I didn't love it to death I wouldn't do it.

Hi there,
I have used illustrator now for a long period of time. Recently I purchased Adobe CC. Had no problems with it untill now.
It's like this. Whenever I try to make a circle (or, square, line or other forms) Illustrator makes lots and lots of more circles within it.
From the moment I click on the page untill I release my mouse, it keeps making circles. (see enclosed picture)
I have really no idea whatsoever how to undo this. I have used Illiustrator CC before for another project, and it worked fine. Now however, it doesn't.
Can anyone help me out here? I have payed projects to deliver, and I really need this to work really soon...
Thnx for your help!
btw, I work on a PC with Windows 8. (don't really think it's relevant, but still..)Thnx!
I didn't know that could cause it. Which is actually weird since I've recently bought a new laptop. >,<U
Thnx for your help! -
Photoshop CS6 keeps crashing. I am using a brand new IMAC, I have 16GB RAM recently updated as it was running slow with 8GB and lots of hardrive space. When it crashes, i lose all my presents and it changes my preferences, it also fails to save or produce a recovered file despite settings asking it to do so every 5 mins now. When i try to report the problem, it says it has found an issue and gives me a link to a solution....but wont let me click on the link.... PLEASE HELP! It's killing my productivity.
If the crash started right after you added RAM, it could be a bad Ram dimm. You can try this - change the amount of RAM in Photoshop to 4G, this should stop Photoshop from using the higher ram. If it doesn't crash, it's probably the ram. Or run a diagnostic app. You don't say when it crashes, what you're doing when it crashes - it there a pattern? Did it ever work on this computer? Did it work on your previous computer? Without a lot of data, it could be related to the new computer... What OS version? Did you recently update it? Have you updated Photoshop to the most recent update?
Do you have any plug-ins loaded? Try restarting Photoshop, and immediately press & hold the shfit key to turn off plug-ins. -
I can't install Snow leopard on my hard disk which has 10.4.11 on it and lots of space, I run the snow Leopard install disk and it says it cant be installed on my hard disk, which has 160 GB of space.
Which iMac? If it's a G5, the highest OS you can run is Leopard. Are you using the full retail copy of Snow, or a grey, machine specific disc from another computer? If it's the latter, that's the reason.

iCal reports that it can't find server, and lots of data from several years ago is trying to get attention. Cannot bring up calendar in any view to use. also keeps loading unused calendar websites from long ago. I can' remove them. what to do?
UPDATE: I had 36 Safari windows open and minimized on the dock from my last session; 20 of those windows failed to open b/c Safari "couldn't find the server"; I just went to the URL bar of all 20 pages and clicked return, and all 20 pages loaded perfectly, without dropping any images or losing formatting. This is a puzzle!!!

Rendering forms and guides in Rails or Grails
Hi there, I've found documentation that explains how to render ES2 forms using a Java servlet, however I'd ideally prefer to integrate forms into a JRuby on Rails or Grails application. Would anyone happen to know if this is achievable? Many thanks!
