Ecommerce sites

I was wondering how designers out there deal with the
encroachment of turnkey ecommerce solutions that provide
newsletter, etc. at a fairly low monthly rate, such as this one
http://www.3dcart.com/pricing.htm.
Notice that they only allow 500mb bandwidth in the basic
plan...

E-commerce is a very large topic that requires much experience with web security, databases and processing credit cards safely.  If you are not an expert programmer, you might be much better off using a 3rd party shopping cart system that is both secure & PCI compliant such as Shopify or UltraCart.

  • First eCommerce site - Business Catalyst or Third Party extension?

    Hi all,
I'm just starting out in freelance web design and I have a thorough knowledge of HTML and CSS and have built numerous sites using dreamweaver previously. I now have a full CC package (and am loving it I must say), but am far more a designer than a developer and thus my knowledge of PHP CF etc. are at the very least limited. I now have a client who is interested in an ecommerce site and I just wondered what approach people would suggest.
From my reading I can see that third party extensions such as cartweaver often rely on PHP or CF and since my knowledge of them is minimal, I had guessed that BC would be the way to go, but if anybody could give me any reasons as to why I could be right or wrong with this, it would be greatly appreciated!

Unless you're familiar with building a CMS, MySql databases, PHP connections, web server security and PCI compliance, an e-commerce site is best left in the hands of experienced professionals.   BC is one option to consider if you intend to use it to build & host the site.  BC Modules won't work on other servers.
There are other 3rd party shopping carts services you could use like PayPal and  ASecureCart Shopping Cart. A secure, PCI Compliant shopping cart..

  • How can I upgrade free subscription WebBasic site to paid eCommerce site?

    Hi,
How do I upgrade a free cloud subscription WebBasic site to a paid eCommerce site? The only solution I could find in the forum was to replicate the site under the Premium Partner feature. Surely there must be an easier way than this, especially for non Premium partners?
    Thanks and kind regards,
    Anja

    Hi
You can republish your site using a different URL & create a new BC trial site. The please use our contact us form http://www.businesscatalyst.com/contact ,  let us know your trial site URL and the desired plan, and we will change it for you.
Please not that we can do this operation only on a trial/temporary site, and not for the free sites.
    I hope this helps.
    Best regards,

  • Customer Support For Malfunctioning Muse / Catalyst eCommerce Site

Is there any type of dedicated Customer Support telephone number available - I am trying to upload a site I created in Muse & is being hosted by Business Catalyst. The Add To Cart Buttons do not function when posting the site live. I have been told by BC technical support that this is a muse software problem & to post on the forums where they were sure someone could provide an answer to why muse is scrambling up the code necessary to have a BC Ecommerce site. Well it has been 2 days & I have not received any help at all. I have an eCommerce site that is not functioning & am unable to get it live - I pay a lot of money to be part of the service & am greatly let down & highly stressed out on the fact I cant get an answer as to why the software doesn't work. I look like a complete moron in the eyes of my employer & am receiving a lot of trouble because of this issue. I have been told to stay here at work until I figure it out but have way to do so!
this is an explanation given to me in broken english by BC tech support:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/CatalystScripts/Java_OnlineShopping.js?vs=b2364.r426701"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/CatalystScripts/Java_Cookies.js?vs=b2364.r426701"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/CatalystScripts/Java_Box.js?vs=b2364.r426701"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/ajaxpro/prototype-core.ashx"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/ajaxpro/CMS.CatalogueRetrieve,Catalyst.Web.CMS.ashx"></script>
are not called on the page
which seems to be an issue leding to add to cart not working
I am afraid, such integration is considered as customization issue and Unfortunately, HTML / CSS / Javascript / customization issues are outside the scope of our support boundaries

  • Is there a way to embed a business catalyst ecommerce site into another site?

If I build an ecommerce site in business catalyst, can I embed it into another site? For example if I already have a public site (using Adobe CQ), can I embed a Business Catalyst site into my Adobe CQ webpage to function as the ecommerce portion of my Adobe CQ site?  Would the API allow for this? Thanks in advance.

Yes you could do it with the API, but it would an epic programming adventure to get it going, as far I know no one else is doing it. It would be extremely slow to use the API in realtime (ie get the contents from the API every page request as the API is slow and times out certain parts of the day sometimes) so you would have to sync your data between the sites. You would also have to work out shipping externally because you can't get any sort of shipping information from the API (as far as I know)
An easier way would be to setup a reverse proxy to your BC site, the only issue with that is that when you start to hit HTTPs pages on checkout you wont be able to proxy them (securely) unless you get your own certificate for the site you are proxying from. I have done this for other sites before but not BC, in theory it should work because BC allows any domain and they shouldn't be any sort of domain / RDNS security checks.

  • Looking for 2 Product Solutions for eCommerce site created in Muse and published to BC

Seeking suggestions for 2 separate BC eCommerce website product applications: I have within BC so far about 200 image in the in a folder in the "File Manager" -AND- each image has been optimized as a low-res digital image down-load product (divided among 20 catalogs).
#1. Image downloads not for individual purchase but as (a bundle of 6 for one price) and (a bundle of 13 for second price) only.
I'm trying to customize two BC products a 6 Pack & 13 Pack of digital image downloads. Normally in BC, a visitor could purchase a single image as a downloadable product and after successful check-out they would receive an email containing the download links. I need to disable single unit purchases and enable the customer to ONLY select 6 images for one price -or- select 13 images for one price. After successful check-out they would receive links for either 6 download files or 13 based on their purchase. They could also purchase multiple pack sets.
#2. Allow the site visitor to select 12 images (from 200 images among 20 catalogs) for a 12 month custom calendar which would be printed and shipped. The BC product here would be a 12 month custom calendar. I have a product listed in BC as a "12-Month Custom Calender" and a display page titled the same. I have been looking into a drag n drop system that would allow the visitor to: purchase the product > select 12 images > submit their select by email to site admin.
I have limited coding skill and I should mention that I originally created and continue to add-on to the site with Adobe Muse. Because I chose to use Muse, I have been looking for solutions that I can embed in Muse pages as "Objects" as Muse will over-write BC custom elements as it is over-written. I have looked at either using a 12 field drag n drop which might work but I can't determine how to make the 20 catalogs available on the same page to select from.
    Can ANYONE offer suggestions?
    Thanks

Sorry but in no way will you get that to work using Muse.
You need to custom trigger the core functionality BC fires to add to cart in the system as well as update the visuals etc, and also overcome some of the BC scripting and what that does and function overrides etc. You need a high end front end developer at the least to be able to help you, and not using Muse.

  • Ecommerce site - how do I create several product pages using only one table of data?

    Hi
Im designing an ecommerce clothing site for my assignment using an access database.
When I create the Data Set it takes all the information from my Acess table "Products" , creating one huge list of products on a single web page.
However, i would like to have the product data split across many web pages depending on there specific Category given [i.e. T-shirts, Jumpers, Trousers, Bags, Acessories].
Does anybody know how to do this? I think it involves setting certain Parameters, or writing a SQL statement in Dataset.
    Thanks for any help

  • PayPal to create ecommerce site, also nested widgets.

My client wants a shop. Essentially it will be an online gallery offering print sales. The Gallery is to contain 8 main gallery folders containing 12 images each and the client wants to offer 3 types of print sale for each image (Postcard, poster and framed print).
I looked at using an actual template through Magento Go / Shopify etc but it’s a fairly simple idea and I wanted to avoid the site looking too shop like and appear more gallery orientated. Plus the client would like something visually striking which suits my Muse skills more than my ability to configure a shop through an ecommerce framework.
So…. I thought Paypal buttons, I have set up an initial first page of 4 images and used the Presentation widget to allow thumbnails and an enlarged view which allows me to place a paypal button within (three paypal buttons representing each product option) see link:
http://canesitepaypaltest.businesscatalyst.com the site is in its very early stages I’m simply testing it for suitability and functionality at the moment and published it so I can attempt to illustrate my point.
However I felt the look of having the three buttons was a bit much, I would like something a little more minimalist, ideally I would like a drop down menu giving product option, but don’t think this is possible given the limitation on product options with the paypal widget. So was wondering if I could nest each Paypal button in an accordion tab or tabbed widget, or something similar?
Can anyone advise on this, or indeed have a 'slicker' more elegant way of displaying the three paypal buttons.
Sorry about the state of the site, it really was just thrown together to use as a work in progress in here.
Also how can I test the full feature of Paypal?
    Thank you

    Hi
I believe you are looking for some option like product attributes where user can select the attribute from drop down or checkbox and then proceed for payment.
Unfortunately with native Muse we cannot add product attributes or poplets but there can be few workarounds.
Firstly the idea that you are following will work as using tabbed containers for showing different product attributes and inserting a pay button. Another way can be like , use product thumbnail image on page with all three attributes option as text under the frame. The text should act as trigger so if mouse rollover action on text then it will pop-up the detailed image for that specific attribute ( which we can do using tooltip ). Create a button and link to a different page where users will be redirected when they will initiate purchase process, in the page insert a form and in message box you can specify for users to fill up selected attribute option which they want to buy.
A different way would be creating a form where you will give the users a drop down or checkbox selection in purchase page. So the process would be same as above but users can select the option instead writing them in message field.
And talking about a short-cut , you can use this :
Productbox with Lightbox & Tooltips | Exchange | Adobe Muse CC
Regarding testing Paypal, you can use your account detail and make a purchase of 1 cent to verify the payment process.
Or you can even contact your merchant as they can provide testing account.
    Thanks,
    Sanjit

  • Help using a Dragn'Drop in a BC eCommerce site created in Muse

I want to create a DragN'Drop template functionality to display multiple photo image galleries on a web page where the site visitor can select 12 images to drag and drop into a grid of 12 empty spaces on the SAME page.
I located the following 3rd party script: http://www.redips.net/my/preview/REDIPS_drag/example10/  This would be perfect because the scrolling containers on the left can contain the photo image galleries from which the image selection if "dragged" and the static container on the right can be the receptacle where the selected images are "dropped".
The twelve selected or (dropped) images represent an eCommerce product that the client will print and ship to the customer. This means that at some point the site visitor will need to add this template to the shopping cart and pay for the template order.
Because Muse over-writes when published to BC, I will need to insert the template in to a Muse page as HTML. The questions is:
1.) How can I get the template to work with the BC shopping cart function and process the finished "dropped" selection as an order?
2.) Once the selections are "dropped" into place, how can I have the system email a copy of the selected "dropped" images to an email address?
If there is a BC expert out there who can offer a few clues as to how I can make this all work -- I would greatly appreciate it?

Sorry but in no way will you get that to work using Muse.

  • All-in-one inventory management linked to business catalyst eCommerce site , amazon, ebay, etsy, etc.

I have an eCommerce website to create for one of my clients.
My client will sell products on his website, ebay, amazon, and maybe event etsy.
What would be the best solution for a all-in-one multi-channel inventory control system?
Is there a way to link the Business Catalyst inventory mgmt system with other sales channels?
Do you suggest a different solution, in order to have an all-in-one control of inventory linked to the website, eBay, Amazon, Etsy and maybe others, so that my client will be able to see which models are selling the most, as well as what is left and what is in need of reordering?
    Thank you for the support,
    blankiris

I've built systems like this in the past, with any custom solution the devil is in the details, it depends on what you want to do and what you expect. As Liam has pointed out the API is your best friend here, you can develop something that pulls data from BC and puts it where you need.
If you try to do everything at once (all those sites listed) you might find you have problems, I would start with one site first, make any changes you need there and roll out to the other platforms.
Please drop me a PM I would be happy to assist in building.

  • Saving as HTML and ecommerce site

Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to save as an html file like i can save as a pdf file using IWEB.
Also, is there a better program or templates where I can download some ecommerce style frames? cause i noticed that iweb is primarily used for blogs. i can use it to make what i want, but just wondering if there was an easier way that helps me with the type of site i am building.
I am new to apple and webpages.
    Thanks

Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to save as an
html file like i can save as a pdf file using IWEB.
If you want access to all the HTML files that iWeb publishes for you, the easiest thing to do would be to use "Publish to Folder" and select a folder on your desktop for iWeb to dump the HTML files into.
Also, is there a better program or templates where I
can download some ecommerce style frames? cause i
noticed that iweb is primarily used for blogs. i can
use it to make what i want, but just wondering if
there was an easier way that helps me with the type
    of site i am building.
sboben over at 11mystics.com has had lots of experience tinkering with the templates in iWeb. I would take a gander at her site and see if anything there points you in the right direction for alternate templates.
If any of this information is useful to you, please do me a favor and mark my reply as "solved" or "helpful" using the little buttons that you see in the title bar of this reply. I would appreciate it immensely. Thank you.

  • Are URL redirects possible from a previous ecommerce site to a BC site?

    Hiya,
I have used the redirects feature for an old static site which is now in BC to redirect some old links ie: www.mydomain.com/stockists.html to www.mydomain.com/store-locator
Would it be possible to somehow redirect my old ecommerce links ie: shop.mydomain.com/catalogue/c4 to www.mydomain.com/product-name ??
The old shop.mydomain.com is currently redirected to the BC site www.mydomain.com
    Any advice much appreciated.
    Cheers

HI Liam, thanks for your quick response.
I have used the spreadsheet for the www.mydomain.com urls which works great but how can I redirect URL's from the shop.mydomain.com address which is setup as a redirection to www.mydomain.com within BC?
Does it not matter that the domain starts with shop?

  • Merging two separate MUSE sites into a single MENU system and Paid & online BC eCommerce site

Hi all! I am stuck trying to figure out a Process Conundrum:
1> I have a BC site with e-commerce ready to go - paid - online with store template in place.
2> I also Have a 2nd MUSE created web site (with the client content/pages) that needs to merge with that E-commerce BC site.
What is the move to merge the two separate sites into a single site with the Menus all in proper order?
Is this simple and I can not see it? (merge the two sites in a folder and reopen in muse for new menus?
Or do i need Dreamweaver to assist in the merge?
    In other words:
What is the PATH/PROCESS to merge a 2nd MUSE designed web site (sans e-commerce), in order to tie into the online BC e-commerce template paid site - so the menus update together as "one" site?
Menu Update Concern:  merging two separate MUSE sites into a single MENU system with the "Paid on line Active BC e-commerce Template". How do it do it Process wise so that the menus adjust automatically... so they are "one" menu.
Reminds me of an old joke: Q: "What did the Buddhist say to the hot dog vendor at the ball park?"
A: "Make me one with everything!"
    ONWARD>>>>>
Possible paths I am about to take attempting to Solve the problem - and scale the learning curve...
download the BC e-commerce site into Dreamweaver -
export the 2nd muse site by publishing it to a unique folder.
combine them by going back into dream weaver and attempting to figure out linking the menus. - perhaps they are automatic there too.
or load them both up to BC and back down to MUSE to fix the menus?
I appreciate Any recommendations, hits or humor that you could help on this.
    Cheers!

Thanks, Liam... I will get it eventually...
Sadly: I do not have a budget to hire this out...
       -  I have gone through lots of the BC and Muse training exercises. Adobe
       and BC Gurus.
But... if the only problem is that I need to work though my partner site BC
    interface...
       - that would be fine...
       - so would using dream weaver....
I will go back and review the BC interface and also dreamweaver
    capabilities.
without a budget... i need to figure it out... please do point to any
material or training you might be able to point me to.
I don't have to use muse, if that is my sticking point. I just need to get
the project up and BC looks perfect.
    Thanks.
