Edge & 3G question

Ok another question if i may?
When my iphone 3gs is not connected to wifi i will most of the time have a 'E' edge connection , i have never seen it say 3g instead of the E ?
i am in the uk on o2 ,do i have to ring o2 and ask for a 3g sim card or somthing?
thanks alot

I do remember...more than likely your phone will be replaced if your digitizer is termed to be defective, so just before you go for your appointment, make sure you backup your phone in itunes so that you have a current backup to use to set your new phone up should you get one. When you plug the new phone into your computer, itunes will give up the option of setting up as new or restoring from backup. Select your backup. Everything will be restored but email, wifi & voicemail passwords for security reasons. After you restore from backup, you must sync to restore your itunes content.
Be sure to mention your 3G issue & the necessity of a restore to get it working.

  • Edge Transport Questions

Existing Exchange 2013 SP1 install with 1 DAG and 2 members. We are thinking about deploying an edge server but have some questions as to the current setup and benefits of edge in current setup. Our current setup:
    2 servers with all roles
    1 DAG
McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange (AV/spam product)
Our Sonicwall does NAT load balancing between the 2 servers. So with an edge transport server, would that negate the existing load balancing?
Our active copy server has a reverse pointer with our ISP. With an edge transport server, we would have to let our ISP know of the new edge server, so it will resolve to the edge server?
Our current servers have McAfee product installed for AV/spam etc. How much does this negate the need for an edge transport server? If we do go with edge transport server, we will need to uninstall McAfee on the current servers and install on the edge server?

    Hi forgiven,
    Thank you for your question.
1.Our Sonicwall does NAT load balancing between the 2 servers. So with an edge transport server, would that negate the existing load balancing?
A:Exchange Edge could negate the existing load balancing.
2.Our current servers have McAfee product installed for AV/spam etc. How much does this negate the need for an edge transport server? If we do go with edge transport server, we will need to uninstall McAfee on the current
servers and install on the edge server?
A: we suggest A/V install on Edge server when Exchange edge deploy, then we could disable A/V on internal Exchange server.
3.How are logs handled on the edge server? Will we have to search multiple servers for logs are can we consolidate the logs?
    A: we could backup it.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.
    Best Regard,
    Jim

  • Edge Program Question(s)

I upgraded last year to the Edge Program from an iPhone 5 to an iPhone 5S, I was eligible primarily because the iPhone 5 I had was one in the batch that had issues with the power button.  I felt that going with the Edge program would work best for me as I wouldn't have to basically pay two year pricing on the 5S with 64G.  My issue is this, with an employee discount my bill is about $130 a month, which includes the Edge monthly payment and the Handset Insurance, I hardly use my phone for voice or text, I believe I may average around 4-500 a month for voice/text, my data usage fluctuates but is usually low because I utilize wifi from my residence as I work from home. I am interested in learning if there are any possibilities to either downgrade in storage size and sign a two year contract, stay with my current device and only pay the difference of what I have paid so far and two year pricing on said device.  The other option is if I was to leave VZW, and return the device, what charges, if any, would I be responsible for?  I utilize VZW because it IS the most reliable network, and as a previous employee I chose to go back to VZW from AT&T.  But, paying what I pay for month, and utilizing the service in such a small amount makes no sense to me at this point.  If I switched to AT&Ts version of the Edge Program, not only would I be paying less for the plan, but less for an iPhone 6/6 Plus with the same store space of my 5S.  I can become a StraightTalk consumer, which has devices that utilize VZWs towers and pay $50 a month for unlimited service, which is honestly the route I'd like to go.
To summarize, I'd like to know if I can in fact downgrade to an iPhone w/ less storage, keep mine and pay the difference between what I've currently paid and what it costs for a two year contract and actually sign a two year contract, or if I can return the phone altogether without a penalty to me and switch carriers. If anyone can help me regarding this, I would be extremely appreciative.
    Thank you,
    Pedro

Hello Pedro! Gosh, I can see that you're very interested in saving money. I'm with you there! We certainly don't want you looking at another carrier for your wireless needs, so let's get your questions answered. The EDGE program allows you to pay monthly for a device until its full retail value is met. If you choose to end the program, you're billed for whatever unpaid remains of the value (example: a device with a full retail value of $699.99 with a monthly $29.17 would have a remaining value of $349.99 after the first 12 months).
As far as your plan is concerned, I would love to know more about it so that I can ensure that you're getting the best cost for your needs. Do you know the name of your plan? Is it MORE Everything? If so, do you know how much data you get with it?

  • Edge Program question

Here is what I understand about the Edge progam:
Must be eligible for an upgrade.
Must turn in current device (in good condition and working) to get into Edge program(at least this is the case if you are being offered an early promotion into the edge program).
Will pay 1st month payment + taxes on full retail amount at store.
Retail price divided by 24 equals monthly payment added to your monthly bill which is the same plan price as those that have subsidized phones.
Full remaining balance of edge phone can be paid at anytime, after 6 months of being on program you can elect to "edge up" and get a new phone by paying the difference between 50% of the retail price of the phone and what you have paid to that point so far on the program.
If you "edge up" after paying 50% of retail price, you must turn in a working phone in good condition and choose a new phone and start making payments on your new edge phone and you are no longer charged for the payments on the edge phone you turned in.
If you want to cancel the edge program and go back to a 2 year contract you must pay the difference between the amount you have paid for the phone so far on the edge program and the FULL retail price of the phone.
    Here are my questions:
If my current contract is up, meaning I am no longer obligated to stay with Verizon and have converted to month-to-month, and I want to try the Edge program, do I have to turn in my current 2 year old phone?
Scenario 1: I have been on the Edge program for 7 months and I pay off my edge phone, after 2 more months they come out with a phone that I just have to have. Since I have already paid off the initial edge phone, do I have to turn it in to get that new phone on the edge agreement?
Scenario 2: I have been on the edge program for 14 months (so I have paid more than 50% of phone price) and I upgrade to another phone. Let's say another edge customer who has the same phone I do but has just now hit their 12 month mark is also upgrading to the exact same phone I am. Am I compensated in any form or fashion for the 2 extra months that I have paid?
The only advantages (to some people) that I see are:
Free financing on a phone that is more phone than one can afford.
Can upgrade more often with no upgrade or early termination fees.

I have a question regarding the answer that was given to this post.
" 2. Must turn in current device (in good condition and working) "
I've just experienced this.  Local store said too bad, sorry.  I even posted pictures in one of my other posts.  Screen, keyboard, back of phone and 1 & 3/4 sides are perfect.  1/4 of the left bottom of the plastic case has scratches on it.
I was told no early edge. Local store said "like new" condition.
I could understand it if the screen was cracked, damaged, had dents on it, wasn't working, but none of the above.
One would think that the local store, who ultimately makes the decision would actually look at the customer history just a tad bit and the success of their new program.
I was offered the early edge by Verizon in a flyer.
I contacted customer service with questions on it.
I was told I could keep my current plan.  Wrong, I have unlimited data.
Second if the local store had looked they would have seen a 16yr+ customer with 3 smart phones on the plan. They didn't.
I think with service like this that Verizon is going to end up falling short with their new program.
I've spent over $7400+ with Verizon in the past 3yrs and they never even looked at the customer history, instead, relied upon poor customer service.

  • FMS Origin and Edge license questions

    Hello!
We want to start audio/video-service transferring live stream
(cam-2-cam, video/audio/text chat) for an acquaintance site basis
on Flash Media Server technology. For uninterrupted work of this
service we have calculated that it is necessary to introduce the
server scheme consisting of 1 Origin and 2 Edge servers. The number
of simultaneous user connections is about 1000. The users have the
bandwidth at least 256/256 Kbit per second (download/upload).
    Our questions:
    1. Is our calculations true?
    2. What requirements are necessary to bandwidth to each
    server in this case?
    3. What is the price of license in this case?
    4. How and where it is possible to get Flash Media Server in
territory of Russia or it probably to carry out through head
    office?
    Thank you!

Assuming video is being broadcast at 256kbps, each 2 way
video chat will consume about 1mbps of bandwidth (2 publishers 2
subscribers). With 1000 users, you're talking about 500mbps of
    throughput.
When I last read about it, the Origin license was somewhere
around $50,000, but I didn't get that number straight from Adobe,
so don't take my word as absolute fact.
If I were planning this project, I might opt to go with 7
professional licenses (1050 connections) instead of an origin and
an edge. My reasoning is this... you can spread the load across
more servers without having to buy additional licenses, and since
the streams are unique and not viewed by a large audience, you
don't need the stream caching feaures of the origin/edge license.
About sales in Russia, I don't know about that. You might
    want to contact Adobe directly.

  • Wifi/Edge/Security Questions

I got the Iphone recently and have had the WIFI option disabled because I thought there were security issues with that and figured that should be the 2nd option when Edge can't connect. But EDGE is soooo slow.
So from what I've read, I should have it try to connect to Wifi first, which I've just configured with my home wifi connection. I've entered the password and it works beautifully (and much faster). My question is how to handle the connection when outside my home. Should I keep it on Wifi? What about security issues when using a public wifi? What is the general rule of thumb for connecting this way...thx!

When connecting a laptop or device such as the iPhone to a public Wi-Fi access point - password protected or not, it is preferable to use an email account that supports using SSL for the incoming and outgoing mail servers but regardless, you should approach such a connection as if data sent and received can be intercepted by someone else accessing the same network.
You don't want to do any banking or financial transactions with Safari - even though these types of websites are secured and just assume any data received and sent via email can be intercepted and read. Don't be sending or receiving any sensitive data via email, etc.
Your Wi-Fi connection at home is secure or should be - at least WEP encrypted but using WPA2 is preferable since it is much more secure than WEP for a wireless network to prevent others from gaining access to your wireless network but even worse, access to data on computers or devices connected to your wireless network.

  • Adobe Edge - generic questions

Hi,  I've a couple of fairly generic questions regarding Adobe Edge:  - Is it part of the Adobe Creative Cloud? - I'm looking to produce animated online web ads (leader board / MPU) As far as I'm aware I can produce HTML 5 in this, is this correct?  Can I also produce .swf files too?  My overall aim to get trained on a package which can produce online interactive animated ads (which will play on both PC and Apple devices old and new).  Flash only seems to produce .swf (don't work on some Apple products) Is Edge the answer?  Thanks in advance,  Andy

    Hi, Andy-
Edge Animate is available for download from the Creative Cloud, so you should already be able to see it in your offerings.  Animate works natively in HTML, so it can't output SWF.  I believe Flash can export to Canvas using CreateJS (http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/flash-to-html5.html), but Canvas support is uneven across all browsers.  We are working with other advertising agencies, so I can tell you that there is good interest in Edge Animate as a solution for HTML-based animated advertisements.
    Hope that helps you,

  • Photoshop Refine Edge Tool questions

I made a Quick Selection of a person and am using the Refine Edge tool with the goal of extracting the person from the image so I can place her somewhere else.
I set the Smart Radius box, and Radius to about 2, smoothness to about 9, and then I take the Refine Radius tool. I start brushing around the edges of the hair to add missing strands to the selection.
1.) When brushing around the head, should the + that is in the middle of the brush be brushing on the very edge of the hair? Should it be touching both the edge of the hair and the background? How does it work best?
2.) Do you only want to use the Refine Radius tool over areas of hair? What else does it work well with?
    Thanks.

Quick Select and Refine Edge are one the biggest game changers in recent Photoshop history IMHO.  They make it so quick and easy to make complex selections, anyone can start making amazing composites, but Refine Edge just isn't as intuitive a tool to use as some of the tutorials make it out to be.  Not even close, and I am not surprised that people have problems with it.  Next time you Google up a tutorial ob Refine Edge, take into account the clean white background they are starting with, and then go find a tutorial that uses a busy background.
Hair is fine.  You can't do fine with lots of smoothing and feathering.  Smoothing is going to tame jagged edges, and feathering is going to make the edges soft.  Hair won't survive that.   If you have a busy background, then there's a good chance you are not going to get a good selection.  That's why the Martin Evening tutorial I recommended is so good, because it is a lot truer to real life than most, and it lets you fine tune the selection to wherever you are going to composite it onto.

  • Refine Edge CS5 question

    Hi,
I'm wondering if there is any way that I can get a work path and/or  clipping path after using the refine edge tool.
I've tried to find a way to save the changes / result after using it so that I can save the image with a transparent background, but no luck.
    //S

As long as you don't use the decontaminate colors option in the
refine edge dialog, you could output to a selection and make a work path
from the selection or output to a layer mask or new layer with layer mask
and load the layer mask selection and make a workpath from that.
You can save images with transparency in several formats including psd,
    tif, pdf and png.
When using the decontaminate colors option, photoshop thinks you want to blend the
selection with a background so the resulting output is not good for just transparent images
    without a background.

  • 3G/Edge/GPRS questions.....

So my work colleague and I have the 3G.
He sits about 3 feet away from me.
Why is it, when I go out for lunch, come back, my phone says Edge, and even sometimes GPRS, and his says 3G.
Mine only goes back "up" to 3G if I turn it off and back on again.
I thought it was supposed to hunt for 3G and if it's there, automatically switch ?

    hmm....interesting.
Just got off the phone to Apple tech support.
The guy on the line said that Apple are investigating an issue where if there are 2 3G phones in close proximity to each other, one of them could cause the other one to drop off the 3G network.
I incredulously asked whether this was something they might want to have tested before they released 10million into the wild, but there you go...

  • Photoshop and Edge subscription question

I am subscribed to the Photoshop Photography Program (and I'm a CS6 perpetual licence holder.) Does my subscription include access to the Edge products? I notice that Edge Inspect was installed along with my subscription, and in the Creative Cloud manager application the Edge products are marked as Install while other apps are marked as Try.

    Hi, John-
Edge Animate CC is available through a subscription to the Creative Cloud, and you can also subscribe to Animate CC itself.  Animate 1.x is available for a limited time perpetual license through creative.adobe.com, but the browsers are constantly changing, and CC is keeping up with them while 1.x is not.
    Thanks,

  • UK Edge Fees/Questions

I will become an iPhone owner this Friday when it launches here in the UK, but being that I have never had a contract phone before, can anyone tell me how the Edge feature works on the iPhone? I assume if you wander out of range of your home network it will give you the option to connect to Edge? Also, does it cost to use this feature on top of your monthly fee? If so, what are the fees per minute.
    Thanks.

Edge use is free and now that O2 has decided to give unlimited Edge use to iPhone owners use it at will, you connection speed with Edge should be between 120k and 220k on average
    The iPhone searches for friendly
WiFi spots first then will connect to Edge as a second choice.
While using WiFi you will see a WiFi icon near the top left of your screen, when connected to Edge you will see a "E" as the edge icon
    Hope this answers your question

  • Early "edge up" question

Hello, i recently early edged up two of my lines ,(turned out to make my bill close to the same" anyway, how do i send in my old phones that were on another contract (with verizon)? Also for some reason it shows that i have been using an lg g3 but i have a galaxy s3. Do they care which phones are sent in?

Yes, they do care which phone you send in. They want you to send in the phone which was purchased when you signed your current contract EVEN if you have a different phone active on the phone currently.
For example, you purchased an $800 iPhone for $300 when signing your last contract and you sold that phone online on a site such as Swappa.com for a price like $700 and reactivated an old basic phone on your line you already owned. You just made $400 on the deal. Verizon does not then want you to turn in the old basic phone currently active on the line you are going to get an "Early Edge" on, they want the $800 iPhone back.

  • E17 edge resistance question (solved, easy one!)

    hey guys,
I have wanted to like enlightenment for a long time, and both it and I have progressed enough that it is my primary desktop, with only a few annoying issues.  The biggest one is concerning desktop switching. I do not want to be able to flip to a new desktop by moving the cursor to the edge of the screen.  With other pagers I have been able to turn that behavior off.  With the e17 module, I can't figure out how, or whether it is even possible. I've adjusted edge resistance and some other things but no luck.
    Help? Thanks.

I will try that. And I'm embarrassed, a little.  I searched, honest!  I've been using duckduckgo as a search engine lately, so the search results were not as good as yours.  Yeah, that's the excuse I'm going with.
Thanks a lot.  Easy answer or complex, I've found that sometimes it just takes asking.
edit: worked like a charm.  I'm all giddy now, thanks again.

  • Edge 13+AMD+Ubuntu-newbie questions...

Sorry for repeating my question here (i posted same thread here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1457175), but i thought this would be gut place to ask specific edge 13 questions.
    Hi,
just thinking to replace my dell mini 10v with this lenovo:
    http://www.notebooksbilliger.de/note...2lge+dual+core
Have some questions though, so if anyone has this amd cpu modell, would be nice to have some response here.
    1) Is it really (amd processor) capable to be used as main computer (+ external dvd drive)?
    2) Should i buy it if i intend to use ubuntu linux as main system?
    3) How high is fan/noise level? (i use dell mini10v-fanless, and macbook white - has no disturbing noise level). Does ubuntu set cpu frequeency down in idle? (i read somewhere that is some option in win 7 turned off-so that cpu is always at 1500 MHz.
    4) and what is battery life with amd...
I would be gratefull if someone writes a little review here-i am interseted only in amd and linux on it....
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
After some weeks as using this machine with ubuntu 9.10 64bits, I can answer yours questions:
    1) I use it for working and surfing, and an external dvd work fine, but I don't watch a lot of films.
    2) This model work's fine with ubuntu. You'd just have to adapt the pilot of the wireless adaptor to work unplugged.
The driver is here: Realtek driver RTL8191SE, and the patch could be find there: Patch post #75 (sorry it's in French).
    3) There no noise, unless when the machine is overload so the noise is not so loud.
The CPU frequency alternate with 800 MHz & 1,6 GHz and is the most time at 800MHz, it's the L625  processor.
    4) You can work unplugged 4 hours sure, and perhaps 5, 3 with a virtual machine.
To conclude, the keyboard is fantastic, I never have a such one before, the screen is small but very readable, the weight 1,7kg...
    Hope it's help you.
