Edge animation in Wordpress site slow to load.

Hi clever Edge people.
I have an (simple) Edge animation I am putting into a Wordpress site but it takes forever to load when looking at the site on a browser - trying it on ipad, Google chrome, firefox, and safari. The .oam file is 1.9mb. Is that big?
Here is the link (site in development so kinda messy!):
http://everywhereyougo.co.nz/2012/11/shakespear-regional-park-2/
How does it load for you? Any clues about why it is slow?
Thanks!
Lisa

Hi Lisa,
first of all thanks for using EdgeSuite for wordpress. Did you use shortcodes? Would it be ok to use your site as a reference for edge suite, I would list it on edgedocks.com if you would agree?
Now to your question: By looking at the network traffic you can tell that your homepage is more then 3.1MB big, thats quiet a lot. Use google pagespeed extension for chrome, yslow for firefox, the network tab in firebug or just http://www.webpagetest.org to get an idea of what's going on.
For example, the three icons FB, twitter, vimeo are each 500KB big, so these three icons are already have the size of your page. That is one thing to fix, but probably not the only reason for your composition to load slowly. You are using a lot of small assets, it just takes some time to load these. Does the composition load right away locally? If you want to further reduce loading time you could use spritesheets. You can combine small images within a bigger image and clip the focus when using the image as a backgound for a div. And try to reduce Photo1 2 3, each 150KB big.
What about adding a preloader for the animation, the then user at least knows that there is more to come.
Just suggestions.

  • My wordpress site won't load anymore (safari 6 to blame?)

    After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I just tried to do a post on my wordpress site last night. The post showed up on my computer, but didn't show up on anyone else's. Now today, I can't get my wordpress site to load at all on my computer - even with other browsers like firefox and chrome. The site still loads on other computer (without the new post though.)
    Anyway, anyone else having wierd Wordpress problems after upgrading to Mountian Lion?
    Any ideas how to get my site loading on my computer again? What could break it for all of my browsers? I'm pretty perplexed.
    Thanks for any advice!
    (I should say that all other sites load perfectly with all of my browers. Only my Wordpress site seems to be broken for my computer.)

    Exactly the same problem...no solution in sight

  • Internally hosted sites slow to load through proxy...

    Hi Everyone,
    We're having some issues with internally hosted sites and apps loading slowly while on the internal network. We host a Moodle site, a Joomla site, an Exchange 2007 mail server (sorry, no more GW), and a Senior Systems server. All of these, except for the Joomla site, have an SSL cert from either GoDaddy or Verasign. If you're outside of our network the sites load just fine.
    We're running a Netware 6.5 SP2 box with BM 3.8 on it and use the proxy. We use both IE 8 and Firefox (from 3.0 to 3.6) with either manual proxy settings with exemptions for the above sites, or a PAC file with the same exemptions. I don't believe the PAC file is the issue as the slowness still happens when configuring the proxy manually within the browsers. When a user tries to go to one of the above sites while on our network, the pages won't load for around 5-10 seconds. The browser will say it's connected to the site, but it just sits - and then the page will just pop into place. The Senior Systems server is particularly bad, as at times only the background color loads and a few minutes later the login box will load.
    We have our DNS and DHCP servers running on Windows Server 2003 boxes.
    Thanks in advance,
    -CR Hiestand

    so if i understood correctly, you do not use proxy to access this sites
    from inside, correct?
    But traffic is still going thru bm, correct?
    otherwise i do not understand why bm is on blame of the slowness. As
    logn as you do not use the proxy, bm is not involved.
    Best approach will be to take a lan trace and see where the delay happens.

  • HTTPs Sites Slow to load on Single Server 2008 R2 Box

    Hello All,
    I have an issue with our new server where https sites are slow to load or do not load at all in IE 9 or Google Chrome. Using Firefox any page loads fine. I have tested many things, reinstalled IE, downgraded to IE8, upgraded to IE10, checked
    the forums, tested SSL settings and still get the same issue.
    For example if I open IE, navigate to google.com I will get a "waiting for google.com" that will sometimes take 5 minutes to load; the same behavior is noticed on Google Chrome but not Firefox. I did notice that if I installed google.com
    SSL certificate that the page would load normally. I have tested the same method on another Server 2008 R2 box with no issues. I am not sure what the issue could be. Any ideas or direction would be greatly appreciated since this is directly affecting business
    for my client.
    Thank you!

    As Google Chrome is using some IE settings, it might be normal to have a similar behavior.

    Hi
    I made an anmation with Edge (2.01.268.25632) and published it as an oam file which was placed in Muse (7.1).on the Homepage. When published to BC everything works fine with all browsers.
    However when the site was ftp uploaded to its hosting company (not BC) the animation does not show in Internet Explorer 11. Tried HTML export instead and ftp upload with Dreamweaver without result.
    Any thoughts? Client does not want to install Chrome or Firefox Which have no problems with the animation. Thx. Henk

  • Why certain sites slow to load on Macbook

    Hey there,
    Any of you super savvy sleuths able to tell why a certain site may load slowly on my Macbook and super fast on my iMac?
    Both have lots of memory and are running the same operating system.
    One of the sites is:
    http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=92029
    The actual forecast content and table content takes up to a minute to load.
    As well, my bank accounts take a long time to load after I have logged in to my bank site.
    Is it a Java thing?  A flash thing?
    Thanks

    I think I found the issue.  I had an extension enabled called "Shortly."  I disabled that extension and all is well again.

  • Internet sites slow to load

    when opening internet site I get spinning fan for extended periods of time. This just started happening a few months ago.

    You've absolutely no need for anything like Webroot SecurityAnywhere. I'm sure that it's what's mucking up your access to some sites.
    The best thing that you can do is to uninstall Webroot according to the developer's instruction and try to get your money back.

  • Why don't wordpress sites load on my macbook pro?

    When im at home, wordpress sites do not load up on my macbook pro. It doesn't matter which browser i'm using they simply never load. there are no error messages. this happens whether i am connected via wifi, or wired into the modem. its the same thing.
    when i am away from home on another internet connection the same pages load perfectly.
    other computers in the house, including my friend's macbook pro can load the same sites perfectly also. it makes no sense.
    I have tried to empty the cache's, checked my security settings to make sure there are no firewalls or anything, but nothing has helped.
    anyone any ideas of anything else i can try or why on earth this would be happening. i really need to use wordpress on a daily basis from home!
    thanks
    Jonny

    It's very unlikely that updating your system will help a problem like this.
    A couple things to try...  first, create a new user on your machine and log in to that account, then try accessing those sites.  If they work fine, there's something screwed up with your user account.  (The trick will be figuring out what that is!)
    If that doesn't help, reboot in safe mode by holding down the shift key while starting up (you can let go when the Apple logo appears).  This disables all third-party software and clears certain caches.  Does the problem persist?  If not, but it comes back after rebooting normally, you have some third-party software that is causing the problem.  (Perhaps an internet security app that is misbehaving?)
    Also, try changing your DNS settings to use either Google or OpenDNS servers.  Instructions should be found through links on either of those pages.
    BTW, what happens when you visit my self-hosted WordPress blog (see below)?  Does it work fine?  If so, it's related to the wordpress.com domain rather than to WordPress itself.

  • Animation slow to load

    Hey guys,
    firstly congrats on a very nice piece of software. Glad to see the responsive element added in over the last few months. Makes life a LOT easier!
    Anyway, my question is one that seems to have been asked many times on the forum but I don;t seem to be able to find an answer suitable for me. I am new to Edge (formally used Flash), an I have added to Edge animations to my Wordpress site via the Edge Suite plugin. They are loading craaaazy slowly and on some browsers they will periodically not display at all. Could you take a look at the page for me. I actually have 3 examples, 2 animations on the first and one animation on the next two examples.
    HyperBrow - Web Design & Web Development | Design & Development
    Web Design & Web Development
    http://hyperbrow.com/filter/design/
    I have taken a look at my webpage size and animation size and neither look excessive to me. Perhaps you disagree? Either way could you suggest how I should resolve this. It would be much appreciated
    Thanks in advance,
    Simone

    I've set up a test page where you can see the animations here Test Page | HyperBrow
    They're actually loading quickly here so perhaps it is the page size of my homepage, development page and design page, rather than the animation size? I would have thought the pages sizes hoevere were not excessive...
    Cheers,
    Simone

  • Edge Suite for Wordpress: Animation not starting

    After many hours, I finally managed to implement our Edge animation in some way on our website, but the animation is not firing (clouds are supposed to float):
    http://mineout.net/hangout
    (seems I have to press CTRL+F5 to force reload for it to load properly sometimes...)
    Here's the working HTML version for reference:
    http://mineout.net/hangout/Untitled-1.html
    Initially, Stage was 100% height and width, but I read that stage had to be fixed size for animations to work in Edge Suite, but after that change, I noticed no difference (source: comment at http://tv.adobe.com/watch/create-like-crazy-with-adobe-edge/episode-5-spice-up-your-wordpr ess-site-with-edge-animate/)
    I'm seeing this error in Firebug:
    TypeError: fillProp[1].match is not a function
    http://mineout.net/hangout/wp-content/plugins/edge-suite/includes/edge-wordpress.js
    Line 112
    I manually added this line to the theme's functions.php:
    wp_register_script('Untitled-1', home_url() . '/Untitled-1_edgePreload.js', 'jquery', '1.7.1');
    I also called it in the custom header I made for the front page, before wp_head:
    <?php wp_enqueue_script('Untitled-1', home_url() . '/Untitled-1_edgePreload.js'); ?>
    <?php wp_head(); ?>
    And I tried both with and without CSS:
    #Stage_untitled-1_4{
        /*position:absolute !important;*/
        /*position: absolute !important; *//* That is not pretty, but no way around it. */
        top: 0px; /* Aligns the animation with the top of the header (can be removed or changed) */
        z-index: -5; /* Sets animation as overlay, set to negative value for background placement */
        /* Only use the following if you want to center the animation */
        /*left: 50%; */
        width:100%;
        height:800px;
        /* margin-left: -346px; */ /* Half the width of the stage */
    I have tried all kinds of stuff (javascript and php hacks), but I am not sure if the issue is with my theme (it uses a lot of jquery stuff) or with Edge Suite for WP, or what it could be.
    Anyone got any clues?  Any help would be greatly appreciated

    use this plugin to be able put html code : http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/import-html-pages/
    then use this : <iframe src="your_Edge_File.html" width="100%" height="100%" scrolling="no"></iframe>

  • For IE8, can I load static image instead of Edge animation (see page)?

    I'm just roughing out a new site and my Edge animation isn't showing in IE8. I've googled and can't find definitive info on whether Edge 4 has support for IE8. I'm assuming not. My question is... is there a way to load a static image for IE8 so at least there is an image to fill that space? This is just going to be a huge roadblock to me continuing to use Edge unfortunately! IE makes me crazy!!!!!!  http://www.duenorthdesign.com/hwt

    Well if you look at the code in the url you supplied they are serving NON-IE browsers <![if !IE]> desginated by the ! mark the css and scripts files that are needed to make edge run correclty. Looking at the code in your page you don't have any of those scripts attached.
    <![if !IE]>
