Edge Inspect for PC without Wi-Fi

My pc at work doesn't currently have the ability to connect to my works wi-fi network, my smartphone can connect to the wi-fi network. Does anyone know of a way I can still use edge inspect or do all devices need to be connected to the same wi-fi network?
Many Thanks

Connecting to the same wi-fi network isn't really a requirement, but there could be problems doing it that way. You still might be able to use Edge Inspect as long as the two networks can talk to each other across port 7682 - you may need to talk to your IT department to know that for sure.
If your PC is connected to the hardwired network and your phone is on the wireless network do the following:
Make sure you've got all the pieces of software installed... the desktop application on your PC, the app on your phone from the app store, and the Edge Inspect Chrome extension in Chrome.
Turn off or temporarily disable any firewall software running on your PC.
Start up the desktop application and click on the Edge Inspect icon in Chrome to open the dialog. Your computer's IP address should be displayed at the top, make note of it
Start the application on your phone. Because you're on different networks, auto-discovery can't work, so click the button in the upper right-hand corner of the phone application and enter your PC's IP address there.
If port 7682 is open between the networks, you should get a connection and a passcode should appear on your phone. Enter that into the Chrome extension dialog and you should be good to go.
Let me know how it goes and if you have any questions/problems,
Mark

    Does you system meet the technical requirements for the three Edge tools?
    Edge Animate: http://html.adobe.com/edge/animate/tech-specs.html
    Edge Code: http://html.adobe.com/edge/code/tech-specs.html
    Edge Inspect: http://html.adobe.com/edge/inspect/tech-specs.html
    They will not show on the Apps page of Creative Cloud https://creative.adobe.com/apps if you do not meet the technical requirements. Also the same goes for PremierePro and After Effects requiring a 64-bit system, and Lightroom not being available for Windows XP.

  • Showcase Photoshop Designs directly in Edge Inspect

    Hi there,
    I'm wondering if there's a possibility to show designs made in Photoshop directly on Edge Inspect-connected devices without setting up an Edge Reflow project.
    At the moment I use a workaround with Chrome plugin, a locally set up web server and an HTML template which scales an exported image to full screen width. But it would be awesome if I could send my artwork to the mobile device directly from Photoshop.
    Cheers

    Hi Ryan,
    thanks for your reply. There is not much more to say about this topic than
    this: I would love to instantly preview a Photoshop design of an app or

    Anyway, if you would like to ask some more questions, I am happy to answer

  • Edge Inspect not working for domain.dev URL's running locally on my laptop, displays error message.

    "An error occured
    Web page not availiable".
    This, printed on a white screen, on my iphone5 (OSX and iOS all running latest updates, latest Adobe Edge Inspect, freshly downloaded) is all I see when I try to visit any of the sites I run on my laptop with Apache.
    I set up my domains as "http://foobar.dev"  (where '.dev' is the TLD on my localhost for things ... local).
    I can view any public internet sites, and they will show up on Edge Inspect on my phone, with no problem.
    I've tested this with turning off the firewall on my computer... (but I'm surprised thats how edge works, but what ever).
    Any guides? tricks? help?
    Thanks.

    Edge Inspect doesn't do anything different to read the website off your computer than a normal browser does. We send a URL to the connected devices and expect them to be able to load that address into the WebView/UIWebView components in the Edge Inspect app on the devices.The reason you're seeing an issue with Edge Inspect and your http://foobar.dev site is the same reason why you wouldn't/shouldn't expect to type that URL into a browser on another machine and be able to view the website... there's no external DNS server to talk to that knows where that address is actually located.
    So, Edge Inspect might be doing less than you thought is was in those terms. The main focus of Edge Inspect really is:
    1. Managing the connection from your computer to multiple connected devices
    2. Translating localhost, 127.0.0.1, and <machinename>.local urls
    3. Keeping multiple devices in sync
    4. Simplifying things like cache clearing and screenshots on all your devices
    5. Providing a simple interface into weinre for remote inspection
    Definitely read more on xip.io. It's a public website, yes. We don't have anything to do with it, but it does provide a nice workflow for using virtual hosts with Edge Inspect.

  • Edge Inspect not available for download (mac)

    I've check the system requirements, and as far as I can tell I have what it takes. MBP i7, 8GB RAM, OSX 10.8.2. But Edge Inspect is not available for download/install neither in the creative cloud webpage, or in the application manager. Whyy?

    The issue should now be fixed. The direct link that you should be taken to for download is https://creative.adobe.com/inspect. From there click the Download button. Edge Inspect will not appear as an Install link in the Adobe Application Manager, you need to get it from the website.

  • Using Edge Inspect on Apple Watch for prototyping

    I'm curious if there will come an update for the iOS version of edge inspect to enable support for the apple watch Or is this technically  impossible, because it hasn't have a native browser? At the moment I use edge animate mainly for prototyping and it would be nice to test my apple watch designs on the the apple watch.

    The two networks can talk to each other.
    That port 7682 is open on both.
    These two steps can mean three things:
    Mobile device can reach computer initiating connection to it using TCP port 7682 (mobile device is a TCP client, computer is a TCP server)
    Computer can reach mobile device initiating connection to it using TCP port 7682 (computer is a TCP client, mobile device is a TCP server)
    Both mobile device and computer are TCP server and TCP clients simultaniously
    Based on previous information in this thread I would stake on #1. Am I right?

  • Edge Inspect available for free trial?

    Is Edge Inspect available for free trial? If so, How do i download?

    Yes, you can get it here: https://creative.adobe.com/inspect
    ...though I think you'll need to sign in with your Adobe ID to get there. The free version only allows you to have one device connected at a time, but there's no time limit and all the features like screenshots and remote inspection are enabled.

  • How to download Adobe Edge Inspect?

    It maybe weekend woes, but I find it impossible to download Adobe Edge Inspect. For starters, I would like to test the free version.
    This is what I'm doing
    1 )install the Edge Inspect Extension on Chrome
    2) sign up for Adobe Create Cloud
    3) go to apps
    x) edge tools & services does not include an icon for Edge Inspect
    Following this blog post:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/edgeinspect/2012/10/23/how-to-purchase-edge-inspect/
    5) Go to plans page to select "getting started"
    x) the button is disabled
    Trying on the main edge inspect website
    http://html.adobe.com/edge/inspect/
    6) click on edge inspect
    7) click on getting started
    x) I'm back in the cloud apps section, without the edge inspect icon
    I then downloaded the Adobe Application Manager
    x) When running there is also no option to download edge inspector
    Can anyone tell me if I'm doing something wrong?

    The Learn More link for Adobe Edge Inspect directs you to different pages depending on if you are signed in or not with your Adobe ID.
    If you are not signed in you will go to here http://www.adobe.com/go/edgeinspect which redirects you to here http://html.adobe.com/edge/inspect/. This is information on Inspect.
    If you are signed in you will go here https://creative.adobe.com/inspect and be able to download Inspect. If you are not signed in and try to go to https://creative.adobe.com/inspect you will be redirected to https://creative.adobe.com from where you can sign in or create a new Adobe ID.

  • Submit form doesn't work in edge Inspect

    I have a contact form in my web and when i submit a form that doesn't work in edge inspect. Edge Inspect after a short time program stops working unfortunately. Form is not submitting and email also is not send. I have a form and i use AJAX to send form data with email to client.

    To be clear, where are you clicking the send button, in Chrome or on your Galaxy 2? And the application on the phone locks up? For example, you can't click the button in the upper right and see the menu?
    Thanks
    Thanks
    Thanks
    Thanks
    Ok
    Give this a try... open the page up in Chrome and wait for it to show up on your phone. Without clicking the send button, press the button in the upper right corner of the Edge Inspect client on your phone and choose the "Open in Browser" option. That will open a new window in the native browser on your device. When your page shows up there, click the "Send" button and tell us whether it works or not and describe what happens.
    Also, can you zip up the necessary code to repro this problem and send it to me at mrausch (at) adobe (dot) com ?

  • Adobe Edge Inspect Port Configuration

    Hello,
    New to this application.  I work for a development company that uses server and firewall network securities.  It is only possible to open up port number "7682" and point it to one client workstation at a time.  There are roughly 12 developers that would need to be able to access this application and its features.  So, from a firewall perspective, this will not work without being able to configure the port numbers for each individual workstation's installation of Edge Inspector.
    Does anybody know if it is possible to configure the port used by Edge Inspector and to change the port number on a workstation by workstation basis?
    Thanks.

    Hi Mitch,
    Unfortunately it's not possible currently to configure the port number in Edge Inspect. It can only run on port 7682.
    Regards,
    Saurabh

  • Edge Inspect Chrome - Cannot toggle OFF to ON

    I have the Edge Inspect extension installed in chrome. I have used this before but now it isn't working...
    I cannot toggle the off button to ON? It just will not be clicked? My iPhone gives me the code but without being able to toggle ON i cant enter it in?
    Is there a reason for this?

    Toggle button should be click-able. Please state the message that you see in the chrome extension. Is it greyed out?
    What version of Chrome are you using.
    Also, please try reinstalling the Extension.

  • Why don't TypeKit Fonts work with Edge Inspect

    I have a Typekit kit setup with localhost added to its allowed domains and all mobile options checked. Running the site locally on http://localhost:4567/ works fine. The fonts load and display correctly.
    However, when I connect an iPhone 4, 4s or iPad 2 using Edge Connect, the fonts do not load.
    How should I troubleshoot this? I've found technical note suggesting that republishing the kit should solve it, but it does not and it is a new kit anyway.
    I have tried adding the specific port to the allowed domains for the kit - /localhost:4567, but this has no effect.

    Hi,
    Yes. You're in luck. Had a couple of very helpful people from Adobe support look into it and here is their final response in full:
    TLDR: It won't work out the box but there are good workarounds.
    When you're browsing a local website via the hostname `localhost`, which would not be accessible to any other devices on your network, Edge Inspect automatically gets your machine's local IP address (which is not the same as the external IP as shown on sites like whatismyip.com) and sends that to the mobile apps. For instance, let's say I have a Sinatra application running in Chrome on my Mac as http://localhost:4567. My iPhone wouldn't be able to understand the hostname "localhost", but it can see my Mac using its IP address 10.1.10.1, so Edge Inspect will navigate to http://10.1.10.1:4567.
    So, to get fonts working, you could add both `localhost` and `10.1.10.1` to your kit. However, we don't recommend adding local IPs to kits because they tend to change without warning. (In my example above, the next time I turn on my computer its IP could have changed to 10.1.10.2, but all I would know is that fonts had stopped working on my devices again.)
    To work around this, we recommend using some form of "dynamic DNS" — basically, a domain name that is automatically updated with your current IP and therefore will always point to your computer.
    If you're using a Mac, the simplest thing would be to use your Mac's Bonjour hostname. Bonjour is a technology built into Mac OS X and iOS to help devices find each other automatically over networks.
    To find your Bonjour hostname:
    1. Open System Preferences on your Mac.
    2. Choose the Sharing icon.
    3. Your Bonjour hostname will be displayed in the top area, under the "Computer Name" field.
    You can add the hostname that appears there to your kit, and use it on any Apple device on your network. For example, my Bonjour name is Davids-rMBP.local, so I can browse to http://Davids-rMBP.local:4567 on any Mac or iOS device and see my Sinatra app.
    Unfortunately, this simple solution will only work on Apple devices or Windows PCs with Apple's Bonjour software installed — you can't use this hostname with Android phones or tablets. If you need a hostname that will work on any device, there are a couple of options I'd recommend:
    1. A third-party service called Forward offers a way to easily forward ports from your computer to other devices anywhere on the internet. You can learn more about them and sign up for a 30-day trial here: https://forwardhq.com. Forward will give you a permanent domain name for your forwarded app that you can add to your kit, such as `dev-yourcompany.fwd.wf`.
    2. 37signals has a free "wildcard DNS" service called xip.io that will automatically forward traffic to a local IP address. You can get your current local IP address by opening System Preferences, then choosing Network. The IP address should be shown in the small text underneath the connection status for whatever connection is active (i.e. has a green dot next to it). Once you have the IP, you can access your computer at [YOUR IP].xip.io. To get fonts working, add *.xip.io to your kit. Remember that your IP may change, so if your site stops being accessible you should check to make sure you have the correct IP address.
    I personally use xip.io if I need to test Typekit on multiple devices using Edge Inspect. It's certainly not the easiest option to use, but it works quite well with almost no setup and it's free.

  • How To: Use Visual Studio, IIS Express, and Adobe Edge Inspect to view local projects

    You CAN view a Visual Studio project with Adobe Inspect. The work around takes a little bit of time.
    This involves using IIS Express to run your Visual Studio project, which is mainly a setting in Visual Studio, a Firewall change, a few command line and IIS Express config change.  It isn't actually all that bad, but will make your life A LOT easier.
    Here are the steps. (Note these are steps I used for Visual Studio 2012 and your project is part of a solution project.  Windows 7 or Windows 8)
    1. If IIS in not turned on, turn it on.How to: Enable Internet Information Services (IIS) - this should install IIS Express as well.
    2. In Visual Studio, find the port that Visual Studio will be using for your project by Running your web project (Debug), and note/write down/save the port number that shows up in the browser when the project launches. (ex.  http://localhost:12345)
    3. Add a NetShare Reservation (process for this will be different for Windows XP)
    Go to your Command Line (CMD) in Windows and in c:\Windows\system32> type in
    netsh http add urlacl url=http://yourIPaddress:yourPortNumber user=everyone
    (ex. netsh add urlacl url=http://12.34.56.78:12345 user=everyone)
    Hit Enter key. You should be a successful add reservation message
    3. Go to your Windows Explorer (File system) and go to c:/Users/YourName/MyDocuments (or Documents)/IISExpress/config/ and open 'applicationhost.config'
    In the 'applicationhost.config' file find your site in the <sites> section.
    Example:
    <sites>
    <site name="WebSite1" id="1" serverAutoStart="true">
                    <application path="/">
                        <virtualDirectory path="/" physicalPath="C:\MyProjects\TestSite" />
                    </application>
                    <bindings>
                        <binding protocol="http" bindingInformation=":12345:localhost" />
                    </bindings>
                </site>
    </sites>
    In this section ADD 2 new lines to the <bindings> section. Note add your own IP address and your own Computer Name
    <binding protocol="http" bindingInformation="*:12345:12.34.56.78" />
    <binding protocol="http" bindingInformation=":12345:MyComputerName" />
    Save the config file.
    4. Open up your Windows Firewall and go to 'Advanced Settings'. Here you want to create an Inbound Rule.
    Right click on Inbound Rule and select New Rule
    - Rule Type select 'Custom'
    - Program leave this
    - Protocol and Ports > Protocol Type select 'TCP' then Local Port select 'Specific Port' and fill in the port number you got from VS.  Leave Remote Port alone.
    - Scope
    There are a few ways of doing this. Typically you would go the the Remote IP address and select 'These IP addresses: and select ADD > select 'Predefined set of computers' and choose Local Subnet.  IF this does not work leave Remote IP addresses > Any IP address option selected instead.
    - Action leave this
    - Profile select Domain and Private
    - Name put IISExpressWeb for the name
    Select 'Finish'
    5. Go to Visual Studio. (Note if you have multiple projects in your solution, choose your start up project. Right click on your project in Solution Explorer in VS and select 'Set as Start Up Project' )
    Right click on your start up project again and you should see an option to 'Use IISExpress'
    In the DEBUG dropdown (from the main menu bar at the top) select 'YourProjectName Properties'. Mine was the last one in the list with a wrench icon next to it.
    This should open an new tab in your project, You should see a left hand list of option and a right hand column of options.
    In the left column select 'Web' and in this tab select Use Local IIS Web server and select 'Use IIS Express' and type in your IP Address and port number (same as before) in the Project Url text box.
    Save.
    NOW, you should be able to run your project in Visual Studio and use Adobe Edge Inspect on your device and view new results in Chrome. You can develop from there.
    If you still can not see it working, please be sure your device is on the same SubNet or Wireless network as your computer.  If you are in a large network but the domains can still see each other, the Firewall Setting detailed above to allow Any IP Address in your Scope section.
