EDirectory question about OES2SP3 to OES11SP1 upgrade

My apologies if this is not the correct place to ask this question but I decided to ask here becuase my question involved OES.
We are going to perform an offline upgrade to OES 11 SP1 of an OES2SP3 server that hasn't been patched in one year.
Novell Tech support told has told us in the past that prior to any server upgrade the server being upgraded should be fully patched but our concern has to do with eDirectory versions.
Our OES2SP3 server runs DS version 20608.00 (eDirectory 8.8.6 Patch7) but if we install all OES2 SP3 patches available prior to the upgrade OES 11 SP1 I'll be installing eDirectory 8.8.7 Patch4 and our understanting is that the version of eDirectory included in the OES 11 SP1 media is eDirectory 8.8.7 Patch1.
Will installing all OES 2 SP3 patches on this server cause eDirectory compatibility or eDirectory downgrade problems during the upgrade to OES 11 SP1 ?

There is code in eDirectory's pre_ndsd_start script in OES 11 SP2 to
prevent eDirectory from loading if it detects a downgrade during this
upgrade, for the exact reason you mentioned. Basically the code prevents
loading and instructs you to apply all of the current OES 11 SP1 patches
from the channel at which point eDirectory will load again.
With that said, I wouldn't worry too much about having all of the latest
patches before trying to migrate to OES 11, especially with a down server
upgrade. Upgrading from where you are should be supported since that was
an option back before all of the latest patches for OES 2 SP3 were available.
Another option may be to wait a couple of months for OES 11 SP2 to be
released, at which time you can upgrade to that directly with eDirectory
8.8 SP8.
Good luck.

  • Question about installing logic 9 upgrade on new computer

    Hello!
I just purchased a new mac pro (woo hoo... finally) and the logic 9 upgrade pack. I own Logic 8 but I'm not sure if I should install it before installing the logic 9 upgrade.
Will I miss out on any parts of the logic 8 sound library, loops, effects, etc by only installing logic 9? I have my S# and am aware installing Logic 8 is not needed, just curious if there are any advantages or disadvantages of installing.
    Thanks

  • [SOLVED] Question about Warzone-SVN revision upgrade method

    Hi all,
I have installed warzone-svn from AUR using yaourt. My question is simple, how do I upgrade when the next revision in svn repository is out?
    Do I upgrade using
    # yaourt -Syu
or is there something else i will have to do?
    Regards,
    J0sh

Just a useful note for anyone else interested in this thread. Using the above mentioned solution works, but it is slower as the building takes place in /tmp directory by default. This means that everytime you attempt to upgrade your revision, all the files will be downloaded all over again and saved somewhere in /tmp, and these files will be purged when your build is completed.
To make building much faster, the solution would be to have all the files downloaded in another directory, so that yaourt does not purge all the files used for building, and only downloads any changed files. Have a look at this topic on the forum for what sort of directory to create.

  • Question about system requirements with upgrade

I want to upgrade to Leopard which has iLife '08 but as I was reading about iMovie '08, it says that the minimum processor spec is a g5. You can see in my signature, my Powerbook is a g4, will iMovie not run at all (or very well even) or will the installer give me an option not to install the entire iLife'08 suite over what I have right now? Thanks!

As the Prime Minister has pointed out Leopard doesn't include iLife 08. It is a separate $79 purchase.
Your G4 (and mine) can't even install iMovie 7 so a purchase would do you no good.
But, if you bought a new Mac it would come installed with Leopard ($129) and a free version of iLife 08.
Over $200 in savings right off the bat!

  • Question about 1st iTouch Software Upgrade - Will it delete everything?

I have a first generation itouch and want to upgrade the software to 3.1.3 so I can add apps but when i click the upgrade button it tells me that the upgrade will delete all my media including items purchased on itunes. Does that mean it is going to completely erase my iTouch music/movies..etc? I manage my synchs manually because i have music on there from my friend's iTunes library, i dont want to loose all that media...HELP!

You can only really sync to one library but, as you are doing you can manage music with more than one computer. When you update on your syncing computer it will restore the contents with those on that computer. The music from other computer's library will be deleted. Sorry.

  • Question about 10.4 Tiger Upgrade: Decision tree+Checklist

I am a recent convert to a Mac (2003) I am running 10.2.8 and I just got done reading the above post which is full of great info, but I don't know where to find some things, such as:
    Repair permissions
    System Maintenance
I was pretty computer savy with the old windows system, but I haven't delved into the Mac workings.
Also: I have quite a few programs installed, so should I just do a simple upgrade or the archive method?
As I see it the simple upgrade won't affect these or my settings are they are now.
Any advice is appreciated. Thank you

    Hi Cynthia,
first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!
"Repair permissions" is one of the options offered in Disk utility (located in Applications/Utilities).
Some suggestions for regular system maintenance can be found when you click the link or here: Mac OS X 10.3/10.4: System maintenance
Going from 10.2.x to Tiger I suggest you do an Archive&Install. Do not forget to check the box "Keep user and network information".

  • A question about upgrades and mroe upgrades

I've got a question about the upgrade sequence and costs thereof
I have CS5.5 Production Premium. Suppose I upgrade to CS6 production Premium. If, when CS6.5 comes out and I decided to upgrade, would it be considered an upgrade from 5.5 or 6 for pricing purposes?
I presume the older the software the more expensive the upgrade but if I'm upgrading from my CS6 upgrade would it be considered an upgrade from CS5.5 9the original suite) or an upgrade from CS6?
    Thank you

You have a CS5.5 now. Now, you upgrade to CS6.
When CS6.5 come out. It will be considered as an upgrade from CS6 (and not CS5.5 which is your original suite). Hope this is clear

1.can we have new name for the target database,Yes.
2.I think we need to create tablespaces ,do we need to create users as wellYou can create users, but it is not necessary. You need to pre-create tablespaces only if their characteristics/locations on the target are different than on the source.
3.If we are upgrading from 9i to 10g database ,any activity to be perfromed other than thisNot that I am aware of - see the steps in the Upgrade Guide - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14238/expimp.htm
4.How come we get consistent export wetherEnsure the database is started in restricted mode, so users will not be able to access the database during the export.

In DBUA mode ( in the same machine only)
1.Do we need shutdown / startup restrict the databaseNo - DBUA will do this automatically for you.
2.How can we move the files to the new locationYou can after the upgrade move the datafiles to wherever you want - use the ALTER DATABASE RENAME DATAFILE (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_1004.htm#i2082829) command.
3.Can we change db_name of the databaseI do not believe this is possible with DBUA.
4.Can we use the old database as wellNo - the database will be upgraded by DBUA - there is no "old" database.

3.how to move the database files to the new locationSee above.
4.can we perform this kind of upgrade on a different serverPl elaborate on what you mean by this. You can copy the existing database to a different server (assuming compatible OS) and upgrade it there.

  • Questions about upgrading from Exchange 2010 RTM to Exchange 2010 Service Pack 3

I am preparing to perform an maintenance upgrade on our current Exchange 2010 Server, to Service Pack 3 (and any post-SP3 roll ups), but I have a couple questions about the process.
    Current Exchange Server details:
    Exchange 2010 Standard
Version: 14.0 (Build 639.21) - from Exchange Management Console
Version: 14.0.702.4000 - from Outook client
Active Directory forest and domain levels: Windows 2008 R2 native
    The questions I have are:
    1.  Can I assume that because it's version 10.0.702.4000 I am on Exchange Server 2010 RTM Update Rollup 4?
    2.  Can Exchange 2010 Standard RTM be patched directly to Service Pack 3, or would I need to perform incremental patches (i.e. SP1, SP2, etc.) before going to SP3?
    3.  Do I need to manually perform the AD domain schema prep before applying Service Pack 3, or will the Service Pack 3 update process automatically handle the modifications of the AD schema?

    Hi,
Here are my answers you can refer to:
    1. Firstly, I’d like to explain , we can use connection status to check our Exchange server version from Outlook client:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/outlook-help/determine-the-version-of-microsoft-exchange-server-my-account-connects-to-HA010117038.aspx
And I check my version from both EMC and Outlook client. It’s same.
    2. We can directly update RTM version to SP3 , and the update will take an additional 30 minutes or longer per database.
    3. Since Exchange 2010 SP3 makes updates to the Active Directory schema, we need prepare AD domain schema. However, it will automatically prepare AD and the domain when you install the update.
For more information, you can refer to the following article:

  • Question about upgrading iTunes multiple computers with shared library

    Greetings,
I have a question about upgrading to the current version of iTunes.
Currently, my household uses 3 Mac computers (2 Powerbook 17in laptops and a Mack Mini). We are all (currently) on system 10.4.11 (with iTunes 9.2.1). Between the 3 computers we have a shared iTunes music and video library on a networked high capacity hard drive.
We recently purchased an iPad. In order to make it easy for updates and to use media from our iTunes shared library I decided that we should upgrade the systems on our home computers to Snow Leopard. I have ensured that all the computers have at lease 2 Gb of RAM and adequate hard drive space.
The only possible problem I see is that one of the Powerbook laptops uses the old Motorola processor. (This is one of the last Powerbooks to use that processor.) I don’t think this computer can be upgraded to Snow Leopard.
My question is, if I upgrade 2 of the computers (and iTunes in the process), will I still be able to access the shared iTunes library using the older computer with the older system and iTunes? Will the upgrade process change the iTunes library in such a way that the one older computer will no longer be able to properly access that library?
Are there any other problems I might encounter having a mixed system/iTunes environment?
    Thank you,
    Tim

    iantoole wrote:
Just a thought. Should I somehow open iTunes on MBP2 using MBP1's Library file??
both Macs can access the same library file, however, only one at a time !
to do that, you would ideally have the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) on the external. then, on one Mac after the other, launch iTunes while holding the option key, click on +choose library+ when prompted, and select the iTunes folder on the external.
or, you could have two separate libraries and keep those in sync using third party tools such as Syncopation, TuneRanger or SuperSync.
for purchases from the iTunes store, you could set up _*Home Sharing*_ - it can be configured to automatically transfer new purchases to home shared libraries.
Can I create a script to have MBP1 always save the iTunes Library file on the shared hard drive?
    no need.

  • Several Questions about upgrading APEX

    Hello,
I a several questions about upgrading APEX.
I want to upgrade my APEX 2.0 to 2.2 and hopefully in a few month to 3.0.
Is there a How To about upgrading APEX?
What would happen to my applications?
Would there be any problems about the applications when the APEX version is upgraded to another version?
    Thank you,
    Tim

    Tim,
Yes there is (detailed) upgrade documentation provided with the upgrade itself, which you should definitely look through. The 2.2 and 2.2.1 releases are currently available here -
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/index.html
You applications will be 'upgraded' as part of the upgrade process (i.e. they will continue to work with the new software once the upgrade is complete).

  • Question about upgrade and original iPhone

There might be other thread already, but have a question about upgrade to 3G.
I have the original iPhone and have upgraded to iPhone 3G.
The question is whether I can use the original iPhone indefinitely.
People at Apple store was telling me I can use the original iPhone (without the phone functionality) as long as I don't restore the firmware.
Is this true? What happens if Apple releases firmware in the future? Would this mean that I can only use this as long as machine doesn't require restore? I wanted to give it to one of my family members so she can use it as iPod so any info would be helpful ....

My understanding is the same as the Apple Store Employee.
If you try to update the software on an iphone with no service, I believe that it will be rendered useless.
It may be possible to swap the SIM card for software upgrades, etc., not sure.

    Hi Guys,
First off all, I installed Oracle XE 10g (so apex 2.1), on Windows XP 32 bits.
I can connect to the XE database perfectly. I can naviguate in it just fine. I added that XE instance into my 10g client and I can administer it from there, no problem.

Following Oracle® Application Express Patch Set Notes Release 3.1.2.00.02 (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/3.1.2_patchnote.html), I downloaded the patch for windows 32 bits, unzip. I followed everything.
So at step #3 Installation Step, when I perform @D:\p7313609_111060_GENERIC\patch\apxpatch.sql, I am getting error because the script, when it calls @@ or @ doesn't know where to go. How can I fix this issue?
    Thank you

    Hi,
    Sorry, my name is Felix.
Following the link you provided, i still have the same problem when executing scripts from sqlplus.
    APEX_HOME = D:\apex_3.1.2\apex
    ORACLE_SID=XE
    When I do, from sqlplus:
    @%APEX_HOME%\apexins APEX_DATA APEX_FILES APEX_TEMP /i/
I still have the same problem. Script when use '@' doesn't know where to do and error out saying it cannot find scripts coreins.sql The scripts apexins.sql is executed but at the end, on that line:
    @@coreins.sql ^LOG1 ^UPGRADE ^APPUN ^TEMPTBL ^IMGPR ^DATTS ^FF_TBLS ^ADM_PWD ^PREFIX
it doesn't know where to find the coreins.sql file. If i replace @@ for @%APEX_HOME%\ it works. So how can I work around this without editing every files and changing the code?
