EDirectory test server
Hi,
Ive to connect an eDirectory to a cms application. I tried it with an
Active Directory, that works fine. Is there an eDirectory test account,
where I can test the eDirectory integration.
I got from this
http://forums.novell.com/novell-prod...sappeared.html
that there was a test installation before, but that link
http://www.nldap.com/NLDAP
doesnt work anymore.
Does anyone know where its gone or knows anothers free test
eDirectory.
thx

I'm beginning to think there is a conspiracy -- There's a bunch of documentation on how to set up an ldap server, which I've done. And there's the JNDI tutorial that says you can bind to an ldap server to authenticate, but it doesn't work for me, and I can't find anybody that can offer any help. I bet nobody has ever done this and it's all just a complex joke, on me.

Previewing on local testing server
When previewing a file in the Dreamweaver development
environment, Dreamweaver loads the file, say testfile.html, in the
browser with its file system address, eg
file://Applications/MAMP/htdocs/jsMath/test/testfile.html. However,
the local website address of this file is
http://localhost:8888/jsMath/test/testfile.html.
This leads to a security error
Security Error: Content at
file:///Applications/MAMP/htdocs/jsMath/test/testfile.html may not
load data from
http://localhost:8888/jsMath/plugins/autoload.js.
The problem can be circumvented by avoiding the Dreamweaver
preview and hand-loading the file directly as
http://localhost:8888/jsMath/test/testfile.html
Surely the preview feature must not be bound by this
restriction. What might be done to get preview to work properly
with this local testing server?

You need to define the testing server correctly in your site
definition.
In your case, the Testing server folder field should be set
to
Applications/MAMP/htdocs/jsMath/test/ and the URL prefix to
http://localhost:8888/jsMath/test/.

How to see html code in a php file using CS5.5 without using testing server?
In CS5.5 when I open a page with php extention, DW does not show any html code in design view without me having to set up a testing server. In DW 8 it would open the same files and show me the html in design view. I have no need to test php code, I just need to alter the html. Is there a setting I can change to enable this in CS5.5? Thanks.
Below is the code. I discovered that if I create a new php document not from
a template, then I can see the html elements in design view. If I create a
new page from a template and save it as html, design view still works, but
if I save a new page from template and save it as php, I only see symbols
for php and nothing else in design view.
Thanks for your help on this.

1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the divs. The elements
within these divs have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box
model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div
itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total*
width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div
and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for
your design.
2) No margin has been given to the columns since they are all floated. If
you must add margin, avoid placing it on the side you're floating toward
(for example: a right margin on a div set to float right). Many times,
padding can be used instead. For divs where this rule must be broken, you
should add a "display:inline" declaration to the div's rule to tame a bug
where some versions of Internet Explorer double the margin.
3) Since classes can be used multiple times in a document (and an element
can also have multiple classes applied), the columns have been assigned
class names instead of IDs. For example, two sidebar divs could be stacked
if necessary. These can very easily be changed to IDs if that's your
preference, as long as you'll only be using them once per document.
4) If you prefer your nav on the right instead of the left, simply float
these columns the opposite direction (all right instead of all left) and
they'll render in reverse order. There's no need to move the divs around in
the HTML source.

Dreamweaver 6. I can't reference root folder on test server - any ideas please?
Dreamweaver 6. I've set up a copy of a site onto a test server. All fine other than a problem with links to the root folder.
The web URL for test server is set up as http://localhost:8080/bhtownsite/ but when I set up a link to the site root e.g. /photos/pictures.php, instead of going to http://localhost:8080/bhtownsite/ the system ignores the 'bhtownsite' folder and goes to http://localhost/photos/pictures.php which of course doesn't exist!!
I've no hair left to pull - any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks@Murray,
I don't have a Root Directory field in my Testing Server definition (CS6 12.2).
Server name: Testing Server
Connect using: Local/Network
Server folder: C:\wamp\www\MySiteName\
Web URL: http://localhost/MySiteName/
Is that something new in CC?

Remote and Testing Server Site Definitions
I am confused about what information I should put in my
remote site definition info and testing server FTC Host directory
text boxes. My host placed 3 directories: database, log, and www on
my server and Dreamweaver placed two directories, Connections and
_mmServerScripts in the same directory as the above 3. I have
placed all of my site files, including my home page and folders in
the www directory and my Access database in the database directory.
Dreamweaver placed the connection info in the Connections folder an
d _mmServerScripts in the same directory.
In order to construct my local site to match the remote site,
I created a www folder on my local site and placed all of my HTML
files and supporting folders in it.
From various Adobe Tech Notes I have read, I was led to
believe my FTP host directory
Should be www/. However, when I do this and create a new web
page on my local site and upload it to my remote site, Dreamweaver
creates a new www directory inside of the one my host created on
the remote site and uploads the file to it instead of placing it in
the www directory my host created. Also, when I use F12 to test my
page in my browser I get a 404 page not found because Dreamweaver
placed a www in the page URL that shouldn’t be there and
after I remove it I’m able to see my page in my browser. My
URL prefix on my testing server site definition is:
http://I.P.number.html.
What am I not doing right?
Should I use www/ as my FTP host directory or leave it blank?
Also, what should my URL prefix be?
Thanks for your help. What you need to do is set up so that in the remote server
you point to the
www level on the server, and don't replicate this locally.

Remote and Testing Server FTP Problems
I have a Dreamweaver site defined. I have an 2 domains and 2
FTP accounts. I am using one for my remote server and one for my
testing server. When I go to preview, it uploads the file to the
remote server instead of the testing server. Then it goes and tries
to view the file on the testing server and there is a file not
found error. If I try the same thing but use 2 network drives or 1
network drive and 1 FTP account (remote or testing), everything
works as expected. Any ideas why this happens?Sounds like you are properly configured. I don't have a good
idea why this
is not working....

Remote and testing server don't see root relative links the same
My site works fine on my testing server (Apache, MYSQL,
PHP). I use root relative links in a library
file (include file) so that it will work with all pages. For the testing server these links look like this:
/my_sites_root_folder/aaa/bbb/ccc etc.
If I use these same links on the remote server they won't work. To get hem to work I have to change all these links to the form
/aaa/bbb/ccc etc.
When dreamweaver uploads files to the remote server, the site name folder (my_sites_root_folder) doesn't go along for the ride--just the files in it. So on the remote all the site files are stored in htdocs. On my testing server, the files are stored in htdocs/my_site_root_folder.
I think it must have something to do with the way I'm setting up the remote and testing servers, but I'm read a hundred pages of instructions without being able to figure it out. I think I'm just seeing something wrong, but I've already spent days on this. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
I'm using DWCS5. Internet explorer 8, Windows 7.Thank you for your prompt response. I'm afraid I'm still totally puzzled here. It sounds like you're very knowledeable about your comments, but I would like to know more. I accept that using the local site root in links would be bad, but I'm not clear WHY. Structuring the links as I have doesn't cause any links to break. I've structured them this way because it's the only way I can find that everything works. But I still do not understand WHY I have to do it. Using different libary include files doesn't seem like a good way to go, though
You suggest that if I use any root relative links at all, I need to use vitual hosts. I'm not finding any good coverage of what these are, and especially why they are necessary. If this is the case, does that imply that templates (which use root relative links) also will not work on the test server (at least without vitual hosts)? The conclusion I'm coming up with, given your remarks, is "Dreamweaver doesn't work with root relevant links when you're trying to test a site with a test server." Is this right? -
Remote and testing server set up
I want to upload to the server some php pages containing a registration form, log in, and membership directory. I am able to get everything working ON MY COMPUTER (not shouting - just for emphasis) using wamp server. I am completely confused about how to get it on the server. I have tried creating a test database at the server but I am confused about how to connect. Do I need to set up both a remote and a testing server in the site setup on DW (CS5.5)? I think the problem is with the database setup form, that is, databases - + - mySLQ connection. What do I put in the form fields?
So far, I have tried, among other things,
Connection name: myusername_testform
mySLQ connection: localhost
Username: the one I set up at the server
Password: the one I set up at the server
Database: myusername_testform
and I get the following error message when I test it:
HTTP error code file not found etc.
possible reasons:
1. There is no testing server running on the server machine.
2. The testing server specified to this site does not map to the the http://ftp.mysite.com/_mmserverscripts/MMHTTPDB.php URL. Verify that the URL prefix maps to the root of the site.
I have contacted the server and have tried to understand their answers but have had no success in getting this done.
Any help would be much appreciated. I am really new to php and forms and databases, so please keep it as simple as possible. ThanksThanks very much for responding. Sorry - I'm not quite sure what you mean. I initially did all the set up steps (set up local server, create database in wamp phpMyAdmin, create a members directory, create a registration page, create a log in form) and I got all of that to work on my computer. Now I want to upload the forms and database to the server. Rather than use the database that I had originally set up on my computer, I set up a new test one with with one table and only a few categories using the phpMyAdmin on the control panel for the site. Where is that database? Is it at the server? What I'm confused about is this: How do I connect to the database at the server? Do I need to set up the site the same way as I did when it was only on my computer, i.e., set up a remote server AND a testing server? Or do I just need to set up the remote server? In either case, how do I add the database to the site using mySQL connection? I think the problem is with what I type into the form field "my SQL connection" but I really don't know. I'm so confused lol

Viewing Layouts on Remote/Testing Server
This is a beginner question.
I'm trying to view Layouts and/or Content Holders on the Remote/Testing Server out of Dreamweaver so I can edit them independently, but I just get 404 messages.
When I create a new page in BC, I am prompted for a Page Title which subsequently creates a Page URL and File name. The Page URL by default has no extension. The File Name has an extension.
If I view that new page on the Remote Server I get a 404 message. If I edit the Page URL to include the File Name extension, I have no problem on the Remote Server.
Now for example: In File Manager I have the following directory structures:
http://www.MySite.com/_System/ContentHolders/layout.html
http://www.MySite.com/Layouts/SystemMessages/SecureZoneAccessDenied-CA.html
Why is it that I can't view these pages on the Remote Server?
Is BC creating a default URL for these Layout pages that isn't the same as the file name it gives them? or no URL at all?
Thanks,
CamHey there. Those are not pages. They are system generated layouts and for content holders only render when the module issued for that content holderin a pager template.
Ile extensionsyouseefor these are needed to work via FTP and understnd HTML formatting etc.
Zone access denied is a system message and will render when you create a login and enter a incorrect password.
Actual pages do not need agile extension.
Loin into the admins floor around. Look and pages, system layouts and templates, apply templates to pages. get a feel of things there as well to help get abetted understanding.

Cannot enter URL or use advanced tab when creating a (local) testing server
Hi,
I have created a site in Dreamweaver and I have tried creating a testing server. However everytime I try to create a test server Dreamweaver does not allow me to enter the Web URL in the server window. I knnow its local (localhost) but it seems it should still need a URL - http://localhost/...
It allows me put in the name of the server the connection type - Local/Network and allows me to browse to the server folder and select it but does not allow me to put any data in to Web URL: field.
Additionally, it does not allow me to select the Advanced tab to specify my Server Model - PHP MySQL.
When I click save with these settings I can see all the necessary files and folders in the Dreameaver Testing Server window but when I go to create a database connection I get an error saying "The URL prefix http:// for this site's testing server could not be resolved" - on hitting the Select button to select the database.
I am running WAMP (in Windows 7) and I can see the database in phpMyAdmin. I know the username and password are correct.
Any help would be appreciated - ThanksDoes this help?

'Unable to connect to database server' on local test server (CS4)
I am a php/MySql newb. Have designed static sites in DW since Macromedia DW 4 days.
I have set up a testing server on my Mac running OSX 10.6.7 using MAMP 1.9.5 and Dreamweaver CS4 to test my osCommerce store (I like to see what's happening visually, even if I just change a small variable in the code). Although I have imported the store database from my remote server, and the connection tests in the DW Database window to the store, mysql, and information schema databases in Dreamweaver are successful, I still get "Unable to connect to the database server!" when I try to preview a .php page with Live View or with a browser. I'm using the correct ports in my site definition (8888 and 8889). MAMP shows Apache and MySQL running, of course. Have tried logging in as root and as my ususal username witht the correct passwords. Everything seems to be right...but it's still wrong.
Do I also need to import the mysql and information schema databases from my remote server to replace the ones that came with MAMP? If so, where do I put the information schema db? Although it shows as a database in PhpMyAdmin, I don't see a folder or doc by that name anywhere in MAMP - it must be buried pretty deep! (I did find a file called information_schema_relations.lib.php in MAMP/bin/phpMyAdmin/libraries. Is that it?)
Or is it something else entirely?
Note that though I'm a fairly savvy user, I am not a developer or coder. Strictly a GUI/static design guy with a liberal arts education. Keep the answers simple and in plain English, thanks.
Have also posted this on the MAMP forum.Hi Kanstantin,
Ieve tested the database connectivity through sqlplus using SYSTEM. But when I try to connect (Mount the repositiry server from MDM console, I facing the problem mentioned.
Please let me know if I need to do anything else.

How do I set up a local testing server?
Hey again everyone. I am trying to figure out how to set up a local testing server. I've read a couple different tutorials online and i still can't figure it out. I added a new server, named it test server, I'm connecting using local/network, my server folder is C:\Users\Jake\Website\testfolder, and my web URL is http://localhost/. My server model is PHP/MySQL.
My site's root folder is C:\Users\Jake\Website\. I have also downloaded XXAMP. It downloaded and that was it though, I'm not sure if I need to apply it somehow to Dreamweaver. When I try to preview my pages I get a message that asks me if I want to update copy on testing server. If I choose yes, another message comes up and asks me if I want to put dependent files. Whether I choose yes or no it just says IE cannot display the web page.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!Site Name: PHP Test Site
Local Site Folder: C:\xampp\htdocs\php_test\
Server Name: Local Testing
Connect Using: Local/Network
Server Folder: C:\xampp\htdocs\php_test
Default Images Folder: C:\xampp\htdocs\php_test\Images\
Web URL: http://localhost/php_test/Server Model: PHP MySQL
Is that everything you need to know? Note that I do not have a remote testing site set up yet. -
Login settings will not update the local testing server files
When uploading to web server from local testing server, changing login settings in the control panel does not update the local testing server Restrict Access to page files. Causing login on website not to function.
It does however update the Connections file and the login wizard form.
What is the best way to change login settings before uploading site to web server?
Thanks
DanDan - I am having the same exact problem. I'm using the restrict access and user registration and login - when attempting to use the Update Record wizard to allow users to change their password or email address, it doesn't change the record.

Need help setting up at local testing server

Login settings will not update local testing server files
When uploading to web server from local testing server, changing login settings in the control panel does not update the local testing server files. Causing login on website not to function.
It does however update the Connections file and login wizard form.
What is the best way to change login settings before uploading site to web server?
DanDan - I am having the same exact problem. I'm using the restrict access and user registration and login - when attempting to use the Update Record wizard to allow users to change their password or email address, it doesn't change the record.
