Edit a copy in PS vs exporting?

Other than bringing photo back into Lightroom, is there any other difference between editing a copy in Photoshop, or exporting photo and opening it in Ps? Don't both options apply LR adjustments and send out a copy?
I'm trying to do everything in LR other than final sharpening and converting to cmyk. If I crop in LR (and crop can later be undone in case I want to reuse differently), what do I loose by exporting at final output size?

Look in the layers palette, see if the type is editable, there should be a 'T' visible.
Otherwise the layer has been rasterised or flattened. If rasterised you can delete the layer and use the type tool to recreate the button's text.

Lightroom 5 does not export my adjustments when editing in Photoshop 6, although I have selected "edit a copy w/ LR adjustments"

I am a Mac user and I started to experience that my Lightroom 5 would no longer send the adjustments I have made to photoshop 6 even though I have selected the option for it do to so. I have searched online to fix this issue with no luck, I tried deleting the com.adobe.photoshop.plist and it did not resolve the issue.

Are other adjustments coming across--for example if you max out the Exposure sliders does the TIF end up lighter? You could be editing the original not the LR version.
Are other new adjustments for LR5/ACR8 coming across--for example Uprights? If you have an image with rectangular architectural features shot at a perspective angle, and you correct them in LR using one of the Uprights (Lens-Correction / Basic) options does Edit In w LR Adjustments include them?
If neither Uprights or Radial Filters are coming across, that would only make sense if you're actually using ACR 8.6 with PS-CS6 (not ACR 7.1) and you're not getting asked any question about with LR Adjustments, and are just assuming you're getting LR adjustments, when instead PS is rendering things using ACR which purposely doesn't allow new LR 5/ACR8-only features.
Another symptom of this situation would be that the filename in PS is the same as it was in LR, not with an -Edit on the end of the filename.
You can force LR to edit a copy if you define Photoshop.exe as an external editor and use Edit in Photoshop.exe instead of Edit in Photoshop.

You don't have to. iPhoto does that automatically. Note the command in Photos menu to 'Revert to Original' and the original can be exported at any time using the Export command.
Longer answer:
All edits in iPhoto are virtual. The database records your decisions and then applies them to a copy of the original. So your original is untouched. Your edited version is never "fixed" until you export it.

LR3 - Cannot edit in Photoshop CS4 ("Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments")

Having just purchased LR3, it seems that when I select "Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustments", that the LR adjustments aren't being carried across into CS4. I am only given the original file in PS.
Is this a known bug?

I don't know. I haven't seen a bug (assuming it is indeed a bug, and not an operator error) like this is mentioned here in the forums.
This issue is going to affect my business in a major way.
If this is so critical to your business, you can use a workaround meanwhile.
Use the regular export command with the following options:
File type: PSD/TIFF; other relevant filetype options.
Location: same as original photo.
Add to this catalog: checked. Stack with original: as needed.
Post-processing: open in Photoshop.
Save this as an Export presets and invoke it from the File->Export with Preset from the menu.
The end result is the same as Edit in Photoshop.

QuickPro (that I just bought!) won't let me edit - cut, copy etc!!! HELP

I just bought quicktime pro to be able to edit the movies from my digital photo camera. After registering for QuickTime Pro the program now lets me select other "Pro" options, but not edit, cut, copy etc... which were what I really needed from the program. I have read through the help sections, followed all the direction, and still nothing! These commands remain in gray and won't work when I use the shortcut keys.

The most likely reason is that you are attempting to edit/export muxed mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 files, which QT does not support: QT Mpeg Limitations
You can use this freeware to do limited editing (to cut out portions, for example) without requiring you to re-encode them. It works with mpeg-1 by itself but requires you to purchase the Apple mpeg2playbackcomponent to work with mpeg-2 files or vobs. It also will allow you to export these formats to other formats, such DV stream, for work in iMovie or to make DVDs with iDVD.

When trying to use "Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustements" from Lightroom, Photoshop opens but no photo is displayed.

I can see from searching online that this is a regular question but I have not yet seen a solution.
I am running Lightroom 5.4 and Photoshop CC 14.2.1, both kept updated via the monthly subscription, on a 2013 MacMini running OSX 10.9.3
Starting with jpg's:
If I try "Edit a copy with Lightroom Adjustements" - Photoshop opens but no photo displayed in PS
If "Edit a Copy" or "Edit Original" then Photoshop displayes the file OK
If I am using Canon Raw files (.CR2) from my Canon 70D, then AS EXPECTED Lightroom starts Photoshop with the intervening dialog box about opening a copy or original but again just a blank screen and no photo displayed.
Has anybody found a solution yet?

I dont have 3.6. but I installed lightroom 4 and the function worked fine. But i didnt like the version 4, as it consumes a lot of resources.
I can open raw files without any problem.
And this function had been working before and suddenly this stopped working. I didnt do any setttings changes even.

Same here. I've never had trouble with this function before.
It opens the Photoshop application with all the menus/windows, but it never opens the actual image I chose to work on.
I'm on a Mac, using OS X Yosemite, 10.10.1 Lightroom is version 5.7 Photoshop is CS5, version 12.0.4

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now. About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

Since In-Browser Editing is not able to connect to servers that are within local/private networks, the FTP host must be publicly available. Also, it will only work when published via "Upload to FTP Host..." which saves additional details needed for In-Browser Editing to function that "Export as HTML..." does not.

There is requirement at my client site to build SAP system copy from Production System without copying Data but
should have Programs/ Structures / Repository/ Tables & views etc.
Though We have thought of building SAP system with Export/ Import way and then deleting the Client from copied system
after that running Remote client copy from Source to Target system with SAP_CUST profile
But I have heard with SAP Export/Import way , We can have SAP data copy skipped and only structure to copy. If there is any way
of such kind then Please help me in letting know the same

I hope you won't see this as rude, but what you are missing is the obvious point that Adobe are in business to make money. So they put as little in Adobe Reader as they can, so people are motivated to buy stuff. Every development intended for Reader has severe limitations on feasibility and techniques for this reason; it's a huge (but very common) mistake to just develop for Acrobat and assume Reader will follow.

I can't find anything in the Preferences that explains this. Updating to Lightroom 2.1 did not help.

There are numerous threads about this in this forum, but a brief answer is:
You will only get the dialog offering the choices if you edit a non-RAW file, i.e. .jpg, .tif, .psd.
If you edit a .dng, .cr2, .nef, or other RAW file using the primary editor you will not be offered the choice. This is by design.
If you
are editing a non-RAW file and aren't offered the dialog box then you have a problem.

This is rather interesting...
I could sweat that in iOS 6. When you click Save it gave you the option to keep a copy of original or just save the new picture in replace of the old.
Now what it does, it saves the "edit" in the file. But when you go to make another change, you can see the original picture still.
At least I did when I cropped it.

Are the videos being stored in iMovie or another application? Have you exported/shared the video? If the video is in iMovie what version of iMovie are you using? Give as much info as possible, and you may also want to post the question in the iLife section of this forum since more people with video skills will be reading the iLife/iMovie threads.

The copy function under the edit menu is gone (greyed out) and the short-cut, "command + c" doesn't word. I can only copy by using the copy button on the formatting toolbar, which is slow & annoying.
