Edit a picture with no stacks?

I wonder if it is possible to edit an image without a resulting stack? This (obviouly) links images and many times I simply want to delete the master or the version and have to unstack?
I'm on Lion, if it matters.

"{right-click} + 'Duplicate Version' ", also on the "Photos" menu, and via "{Alt}+v"
My guess is you'd want to do this before adding Adjustments. But note that even after adding Adjustments you can always "Create New Version From Master", which means it doesn't matter which order you do things, because of Aperture non-destructive workflow you can always end up with an original and an adjusted Version (when you want).
(Or what Ernie posted above while I was drawing the darn smiley.)

I have ann iPad 2 updated with IOS 5.0.1. I use camaraderie connection kit to import photos from the SD memory card. Then I browse them with the default photo app, and I make some corrections like removing red eyes effect. Then if I open the corrected photo with Snapseed the red eyes appear again. I have tried many times and I am sure that I save changes. If I browse the photos again I see it correctly. It is like corrections are not really stored in the picture but Ina sidecar file.

Yes, and it shows the picture with corrections.. This is what is strange to me.
I'm amateur photographer and on computer I use Adobe Lightroom. There when a edition is made, changes are not stored in the original file, but written in a separate xmp file or in the catalog. So if you try to open an edited photo you cannot see corrections. To get the corrected file in another app you need to export the photo, this is create a new file with the correncions applied in it. For me it seems like photo app in IOS work like that.

Crash windows when edit a picture with PSE7 .....

We test the PSE7 and run correctly at my PC.
We install same product at final user PC and when show how is the edition, we select a picture and Windows (XP with SP2) crash....
What can I to do???

PRE 3 editing a picture with Photoshop ele 5

Hi All Im having trouble figuring this out. I have premiere elements 3 and Photoshop elements 5. Im making a video for you tube and now everyone has cool boarders or frames for there vids. Example 51 secs in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jH_vg4vpkKg

I have edited pictures before and put them in videos but some how I cant remember how to do this.

In Photoshop Elements, double-click on the background layer in the Layers panel. This will turn the background into a layer. Then select the white inside of the frame and delete it. It will now be transparent (technically known as an alpha channel).
Save your file as a PSD and it will maintain the transparency. Place it on an upper video track in Premiere Elements and you'll have your frame! Voila!

LOOSING pictures with Album starter edition 3.2 !?

Any help possible??
I am using Album Starter Edition 3.2 (with Vista Home Premium) for more than a year in the current configuration, for 4 years altogether. I recently added photos from several new sources (second camera, and other people's photo-CDs) and since 2 days photos can only be displayed as thumbnails, when displayed as single photo a window opens and says "searching for missing file", when this is cancelled a "broken photo" sign appears in the thumbnail.
What happened? What can I do?

Dear Laura, I just solved -my- problem, and I hope this will help you too:
A few days ago I transferred the complete "Pictures" file to the desk top for better accessibility. This file was then not listed in the box any more that appears when you click "Search" so maybe you also changed the path to the photo file and can restore it that way.

You have to go into your Gmail account settings.
Then Security.
Then turn ON 2-Step Verification
Follow the instructions to link a cell phone to your google account. They will text you a secondary code and once you've entered that your 2-step verification will be set up.
Then you should have the option on the bottom of the page to add a device. Call it apple tv and then it will generate a secondary code specifically for your Apple TV.
On the Apple TV itself, ultimately I think you have to enter just the first part of your e-mail address (before the @gmail.com) as your Youtube login username.
Then you should enter your gmail account password.
Apple TV will tell you it is incorrect.
Then, retry and enter the long secondary password that google generated for the apple tv.
That should do it.

Identify pictures with edits/adjustments

This is mostly to support upgrading from IPhoto to Aperture (or other).
I basically want to be able to differentiate between all the pictures that have had any sort of edits/adjustments and even by looking at the IPhoto library package contents innards I cannot seem to be able to find a way to do so.
I shoot mostly raw and upon import into IPhoto, all raw pictures are stored in the Masters folder and a jpeg preview is stored in the Previews folder. If I make edits to the picture in IPhoto, it amends the jpeg picture in the Previews folder and also keeps track of the changes. In the "Edit" section of the application, the "Reprocess Raw" option becomes "Revert to Original".
As I have about 10,000 pics in my IPhoto library, I would like to identify which ones have been edited (and would therefore show a "Revert to Original" option) as opposed to the ones that have not (and would therefore show a "Reprocess Raw" option) - this is mainly to avoid having Aperture import a duplicate copy of each IPhoto picture: the raw and the jpeg preview (regardless of whether the jpeg is an actual edit), which is major flaw in the IPhoto -> Aperture link.
I have looked into the Versions files in the library file package but with no success given the encryption of the information. IPhoto is able to identify whether a photo has been edited (hence it displays the right option "Reprocess Raw" or "Revert to Original" and I would like to know if it is possible to derive that same info somehow)?

Terence - thanks for the quick answer but when I tried the import from IPhoto to Aperture, ALL my pictures were imported as "doubles" ("IPhoto Originals" and "IPhoto Edited") - regardless of whether they had been edited in IPhoto or not.
What I would like to do then is:
1- Keep all the originals (ie RAW files)
2- Keep all the actual real "IPhoto Edited" files (ie these jpeg files that have been generated by IPhoto and include all my adjustments). These would be my "enhanced photos" and I do not want to discard them.
3- Delete all the "IPhoto Edited" imported pictures for which I have not made any edits (the ones that would simply show as "Reprocess Raw" in IPhoto). As far as I am concerned I have no need to keep those in Aperture: they are just a jpeg representation of the original raw file and Aperture will handle that very well on its own - no need for these "duplicate" pictures.
Unfortunately, I have not ben able to figure out a way of differentiating between pictures in group 2 vs. 3 (and to be honest have been quite disappointed with the way the IPhoto -> Aperture upgrade/import happens - hence my comment. I was expecting each IPhoto picture to be imported into Aperture with the raw file as the master and any potential IPhoto edits/adjustments then applied to that master file instead of having this "simpler" duplication). I have about 10,000 raw pics in IPhoto and I feel like I am in quite a pickle as I estimate that I have at least a third of my pics with adjustments... (so I still think there is a flaw - or room for improvement in the IPhoto -> Aperture import ;-)

How to have a picture with 3 people and put them in a picture with one person

I don't know if this would come under photomerge or not but I want to take this picture with 3 people in it and add them to a picture with just 1 person.

Use on of the selection tools, e.g. selection brush, lasso tool, to make a selection of the 3 people. Once you have a complete selection, you will see "marching ants" surrounding it
Go to Edit>copy to put the selection on the clipboard
Open the 2nd picture
Go to Edit>paste. The selection will be on its own layer
Get the move tool in toolbox, position the selection, and resize it, if necessary, with the corner handles of the bounding box.

Printing iPhoto Pictures with Titles

iPhoto provides for titles with pictures and a description with the picture as well. Is there a way to print pictures with their itle and description?

Within iPhoto the only way is using the contact sheet option as Daiya pointed out. If you want to put the info on the photo itself you'll need a 3rd party editor link Photoshop Elements, Seashore orAcorn. If you go to VersionTracker.com and search for "image editor" you'll get a number of candidates.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Import picture with XP

Hi, Whenever I try to use edit>import picture (gif or jpg) (lv6.0.2)
with windows xp i get the error message:
"LabVIEW could not import the picture. Possible reasons include:
-corrupt file or picture type
-File used by another application
-Not enough memory" .... "OK"
well frankly, it's not OK )
If I try to paste (in picture rings as well as front panel) I just get
a beep. This happens for jpeg's and gifs. Bitmaps work fine, however I
know it can be done with jpg's etc. Is this a known issue in XP? I
have used this feature many times in W2000 etc with no problems. Is
there a fix? None of the reasons given are valid - it happens with ANY
image, not being used by other app and I have 512Mb RAM...

I do not believe the features have been added to LabVIEW, so the problem is not with the OS. I was able to cut and paste gifs and jpegs onto the front panel. I think the images were converted to a different format in the ctrl-x, ctrl-v process. Do you think that you might have been doing it this way before?

Open Picture With Lightroom 2

Im using windows vista and want to edit my pictures in Lightroom 2.
I've been using lightroom 1.4 for a long time and loved it, but recently upgraded to an opympus Camera, and there are compatibility issues.
anyway, im using version 2 now, and when i right click a picture and choose "open with", lightroom isnt there. I browse to it in the adobe section of program files and choose it as the program to open my jpeg picture file, but nothing happens.
I dont want to have to import my pictures every time, as it is a pain in the a$$.
Anyone know whats causing this to not work?

im sure its possible tho, because in Lightroom 1.4 it was possible.
the process im describing is to right click a photo, choose to "Open With", select the program (this case being lightroom 2).
With lightroom 1.4 it worked perfectly, but with 2 it doesnt...

No, but you can use any picture editing tool to crop out the bars. (Many are free in the App Store.) Me personally, I use PhotoPad, which I use to crop as well as rotate the screen shot. Takes less than a minute to do both with PhotoPad.

Aperture is a database. It's oddest feature is that "photo" is close to meaningless. The Images you see are created on-the-fly by reading the Original (which is _never_ altered) and a text file of instruction (called, confusingly, a Version) which are then applied to create the Image. This image is often referred to as (I told you it was confusing) a Version.
You changes are always and automatically saved. Any adjustment you make or metadata you add or change is permanent until you change it again.
You don't create _files_ until you need them outside of Aperture. "Export" in Aperture, means "make me a file I can use with other programs".

Prices range from free to very expensive. Several third party add on have been developed to process images and help produce image like your example.
