Edit a PSD in PS 7

I created a rollover button in ImageReady and saved it as a psd which I hadn't done in awhile, so my question is can I go back in and edit that psd? I need to make more buttons, so I need to change the wording on the button. I've tried editing the button, but nothing is working. Should I have saved the button in something other than a psd to edit it again?

Look in the layers palette, see if the type is editable, there should be a 'T' visible.
Otherwise the layer has been rasterised or flattened. If rasterised you can delete the layer and use the type tool to recreate the button's text.

No we do not have an open source code for reading .folio files. You can read .folio file in Adobe Content Viewer and in your customer viewer app.

  • How do I make ACR 4.6 start saving edits to PSDs again?

When I develop an image in ACR 4.6 and save it to a psd, the psd looks like the original dng, not the processed image -- no edits are saved even though I use Save Image or Open Image.  It's been working fine for years.  I have the same versions of dng converter and ACR on my Macbook Pro, and it still works fine.  When I did a reinstall, it worked for about one or two files, and then broke again.  I'm running os 10.4.11 on G5, PS 10.0.1,  ACR 4.1.0.30, Bridge 2.1.1.9, DNG Converter 6.3.0.79.  One clue might be that if I try to access Bridge's Preferences, Bridge always crashes instantly.  I'd be grateful for any help.  Thanks.

    Hi Jeff,
You're absolutely right, it should show as 4.6, and it does.  My error.  The initial inquiry should have read, 4.6.0.30 (and yes, that was the last version for PS 10.0.1).
However, you have helped me solve my problem.  I changed the ACR Preferences to, "Apply sharpening: to all images" instead of "Apply sharpening: Preview images only".  I'm not sure exactly what that means, but it must have been the default each time I reloaded 4.6.  Or perhaps I changed that without remembering, preventing the developed ACR version being applied to the psd.
I have no idea why Bridge Prefs crash as soon as I select them in the menu.  Camera Raw Prefs accessed from Bridge don't crash when selected.  I'll try to figure that out separately.
Thanks very much for your assistance.

  • Editing Photoshop .PSD files withing Aperture 3

I will be moving from a PC to iMac soon. I'm thinking of using Aperture to replace my PC based database app. I'm trying to get info on Aperture before I jump in. Here's my question: After finding the pic in Aperture, can I open the file using Photoshop as the editor (file formats of .jpg, .psd)? Thanks for the help.

Welcome to Macs and the Discussion.
Yes, you can choose to edit in an external editor, and Photoshop can be that editor. Aperture, per you selection in preferences, will prepare a new duplicate version in either TIFF or PSD, and automatically launch Photoshop to then allow you to edit there. Aperture does not send the Master, nor the version you have going currently, but later an image you previously edited in the same way can be reopened in PS.

    Bad news for you too.
First, you are not addressing Adobe here in the user forums.
Secondly, Adobe does not support CS3 any longer because it hasn't been sold for years.
Therefore, you're left to the good will of fellow users who volunteer their time here free of charge, if one of them has a solution to your issue.  No one is under any obligation to reply, so ask nicely.
One thing I can tell you is that you have not applied any of the versions available for Photoshop.  Unfortunately, the Adobe auto updater was an unmitigated piece of cr@p in any version prior to CS6.  Do not rely on it to assume you are up to date just because it doesn't show any updates available to you under Help > Updates.
You need to look for the downloads and apply them manually yourself.
I can't offer any more assistance because I don't do Windows.  Sorry.

  • While editing saved PSD files, png elements have a white background when resized

    Hi,
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.  When I open a psd file that I previously worked on and saved, when I try to resize or in some way change the different elements(layers) of the layout, they get a white background inside the bounding box for that layer.  The different elements(layers) where pulled in from png files that had transparent backgrounds.  When I initially resize or change those layers the white background doesn't appear.  It only happens when I reopen the saved psd file to make some changes to it.  What do I need to do to stop that from happening?
Thanks in advance for you help!
    Katheryn

You can't drag from the project bin in PSE 6 and 7. Items you move this way become a kind of semi-smart object on a special passthrough layer. Use copy/paste or drag from the layers palette of the png file into the main image window of the psd file.

  • Edit as PSD or TIFF?

I was reading a book on digital photography and it said one should make changes to images in TIFF format, because it's lossless. Is the native Photoshop format, PSD, also just as good and as safe?

    Testing, Testing, One...Two
As I never use 16 bit images I'll have to take Peter's word for it (although all he says is see what happens...). However I do use reasonably large 8 bit images. In fact I'm working on a poster for a client just now. The dimensions are 13200px x 20400px. It contains 54 layers including photographic images, text layers, styled text, smart objects and vector graphics imported from Illustrator.
I just tried three save as... operations. One to Photoshop, one TIFF with LZW and one TIFF with ZIP compression. Each of the save as operations began with a first step of saving composite images and each took about 45 seconds. Then the file saving began...
Photoshop format took only 28 seconds to save the file... 840.2 mb.
TIFF LZW took 2:10 to save the file... 374.2 mb.
TIFF ZIP took 21:04 to save the file... 364.8 mb.
I'll use the TIFF LZW when I don't specifically need the PSD format.

  • How to edit PSD files on Photoshop Creative Cloud

    Hi there,
I am new to Creative Cloud and just downloaded the Photoshop App to my desktop. However, I can't seem to find the options where I can edit my psd files. Can someone please help me? I would like to know how I can start editing PSD files on the Photoshop Creative Cloud App.
    Thank you so much!

    HI Resumeboston16,
Which version of Photoshop are you using? Photoshop CC?
You'll probably still want to save you PSD files locally to the computers hard drive. You can upload them to the Creative Cloud files page here https://creative.adobe.com/files through the browser.
Then you could download it on another computer to work on it there.

  • Editing PSD file in Lightroom?

I'm creating a PSD file for a client so she can edit the text in the document herself. I thought I read somewhere that PSD files can be edited in LR. I've never used LR, but just downloaded it to take a test drive, but can't figure out how to edit the document. Any tips?

Lightroom works in a completely different way than Photoshop or other pixel editing programs. In order for you to edit that PSD file has to be imported into the Lightroom catalog. It might be to your advantage to just use Photoshop, if you have it, because understanding how Lightroom works is essential in order for you to be effective.
If the PSD file has a text layer, you will not be able to access It separately using Lightroom. Lightroom does not use layers, and you cannot work with text like you do in Photoshop. I just believe, based on what you have told us, that Lightroom is probably not a good choice for this particular project.

  • Can a JPEG be converted to an editable PSD?

My friend created a flyer for me in photoshop and sent it to me as a JPEG. I converted to a PSD in my Photoshop Elements 10, but I cannot edit anything in it?  Please help

Well, you should be able to edit the PSD, of course, but when your friend made a jpg, it flattened everything into one picture. You can't edit the text because it isn't text anymore; it's a picture of some text now, and so on. Ask if your friend can get you the original layered file (tiff or psd) if you want to be able to edit the various components individually.

  • Thumbnails of psd images sometimes do not update after edit

After scanning a bunch of negatives I decided to add the images to iPhoto in the psd format, which I wanted to keep. In iPhoto I have one roll for each film roll. I have iPhoto preferences set so that I edit in PSE. On some rolls after I edit and go to the iPhoto window and then single click on the thumbnail, the thumbnail changes to the edited version, as I would expect. However on other rolls when I repeat this, the thumbnail doesn't change to the edited version. When I double click I do get the last edited version of the image. (Also true if I edit in the Main Window.)
In PSE file saving preferences I have: On First Save= Save Over Current File. Also Max PSD file compaibility = Always.
Anyone have any idea as to what is going on. Thanks,
    Owen

How are you editing those psd files? With Photoshop? If so then here's the correct way to use PS with iPhoto:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

  • Can I continue to edit in LR after exporting an image under edit. i see that my PSD file are now only JPG

Newbie at using LR. I tried my hand a first of images. I firgured out how to export to JPG but then found that in my LR I no longer had PSD file and all my editing Histroy was gone. I could see the JPG files.
Is there a way to print out (to JPG) incremental changes but still continue to work on the images?
    Thnx

...I exported to JPG in my Hard disk. Unitl this point I could see all the edits I made in History and the actual photo showed as a PSD file. After doing the export, when I look at the history it is empty. and the file now shows as a JPG. This means that I cannot build on the previous edits.
Because you're new to Lightroom you might not have noticed that the selected image changed when you exported. But more than that, the selected image source in the catalog changed. In the Library module, I'm sure that when you were editing your PSD file, the folder it was in was selected. But after you do an export, that changes so that it says Previous Export shows in the Catalog panel on the left, and the only contents of the Previous Export is the one JPG, so that's all you can see right now. But if you were to go back and re-select the folder on the left with the PSD in it, you'd see your PSD again. And when you select the PSD, all the edits will be there.
So nothing is lost, it's just that you're now looking at a view that contains only the exported file.
If you exported the JPG to the same folder as the original, you can choose Library > Go to Folder in Library and you'll be back there with both the original and the JPG listed. There are other ways to get back to the preview source like the left Back arrow at the top of the Filmstrip if you have that open.

  • Questions about editing video clips, images and text

I'm using the Expert mode and I'm having trouble with figuring out how to do certain things.
    1. I'm superimposing a picture of a scoreboard on my video and then I superimpose a text object on top of that so I can update the scores throughout the video.  I've placed on instance of the text object on my "Video 3" and now I want to change the score.  So I created another instance on the same "Video 3" timeline.  Now I want to close the gap between the two instances.  I would expect to be able to click on the gap in between and delete it but nothing happens.  I would also expect to be able to double click on the instance to access the specific start and end times that I see when I hover over it.  But again nothing happens.  So I've been magnifying the timeline so I can manually drag the two instances together.  Is there an easier and more precise way to close the gap?
    2. Is there an easier way to periodically change a text object without creating a bunch of instances?  My "project assets" folder is getting filled up quickly because the score is constantly getting updated and I keep creating a new instance for each score change.
    3. Is there a way to permanently combine two seperate video clips?  I've used the "group" option but there is still a divider that reminds me that the two were seperate.  I'd like to be able to combine the two and for it to look as if it was always just one large clip.
    4. When I use the scissors to cut a section out of the middle of a clip, the blue marker that shows where I am currently in the video stays in place.  So each time I cut out a section, I have to manually drag the blue marker over to the new beginning that was at the end of all the stuff I just cut.  Is there a preference to have the blue marker stay with you when you edit instead of it suddenly being far ahead of you in the editing process?
    Thanks!

Other than doing Duplicates of your Title, and editing those, as needed, the only other option would be to create the Titles in another program, such as Photoshop, then Save those as PSD's, to be Imported into PrE. The one downside of doing that, is that to edit those PSD "titles" is to Open them in Photoshop - the PrE Titler will not open them for the additional editing.
PrE does not have as much power to organize Assets, such as Titles, as does Premiere Pro, with both Bins and Folders (later versions). I always create a Bin, for my Titles, or even several Bins, for different types of Titles in the Project.
Maybe others will have a workflow, that I have not considered, so we both might learn something.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
