Edit audio clip for imovie '09

I want to edit out about 14 seconds of the beginning of a song and
use it in imovie.
how do i do this?

Another way is to do it in iMovie. After dragging the full track into iMovie, simply drag the ends in to shorten the track to the section you want. Then reposition (by dragging) that section to the appropriate spot in your movie.
Just to be clear - when you drag a song into iMovie, drop it onto a thumbnail (not the background) near the position you wish it to play. A green coloured bar will appear just below the thumbnails. This bar can be manipulated as described above.
If you wish to fine tune, use the Clip Trimmer. Access this by clicking on the small gear icon at the beginning of the track. In the panel that opens select "Clip Trimmer" - a window opens showing the waveforms for the audio track. You can drag the yellow handles to highlight/select the piece you want to play. As you do this, you can view the associated video clip in the viewer at the top right of your screen.

  • How to send FCP edited audio clips for processing in Soundtrack?

    Hello
How do I send just the edited audio clips from hour long files to be processed in Soundtrack from Final Cut?
I need help as I'm trying to adjust some edited audio clips in Soundtrack Pro but when I send them from FCP to Soundtrack - it opens the whole original audio file and then any adjustments I apply in Soundtrack are being processed over the whole audio file not just the short edited audio clip that I want to adjust.
Normally I don't mind as my scenes are usually short and Soundtrack analysis over the whole scenes audio is usually desirable, but this projects files have been transfered from tapes as hour long AVI files (all the tapes clips transfered into one hour long files) and every FCP edited audio clip I send is being treated as an hour long audio file in Soundtrack.
I'm sure there's a simple answer for settings but I haven't been able to find it.  Any advice appreciated.

Thanks Javi, my sequence is an hour and half duration so what I'm trying to do is save processing time in Soundtrack by just processing adjustments on the few audio clips that need processing.
I have set Soundtrack to open referenced audio only and with 5 sec in and out handles, but it still imports the whole original audio file into Soundtrack timeline upto the selected clip, I then double click in Soundtrack on the clip in brackets, and it then selects just the audio clip I want to adjust, then Soundtrack will just process on the edited clip but when I 'render to action' it seems to apply changes to whole original audio file - taking longer than I want.... frustrating
Also the sound always sounds very different in FCP than Soundtrack even after 'rendering to action' and rendering in FCP... this is not the easy workflow I expect from such expensive software programs, I understood that they work together in a fully integrated way, what's the problem! This is wasting my precious time and preventing me from editing not helping me, this is a common problem and yet I can find no help in the user manual - I'm not impressed!

  • Hi friends. When I edited a clip in iMovie it cropped my head. How do I fix this?

Hi Friends. I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. I was editing a clip for an audition, on my iPhone using iMovie. At the bottom of the screen where I'm making my edits everything looks fine, but the top screen has cropped the top of my head off. After I finished my edits and look at the finished product, I'm still missing the top half of my head. If anybody knows how to fix this I would be so greatful.  Thanks.

I am having this same problem.  Did you find a solution?

Facebook has challenged the copyright of a movie using iMovie audio. Am i allowed to share movies made using audio clips from iMovie?

Just curious as to why it's coming up as a copyright violation?
Hard to say.  I think FaceBook errs on the side of abundance caution when they detect anything that sounds like music.
It's also possible to that people use samples of various pieces of iLife audio contest to create a piece of work that they then copyright.

You could, but GarageBand might be easier.

  • How do you speed up video clips for Imovie 8?

How do you speed up video clips for Imovie 8?

Do you mean get 55 minutes of real time footage to show in only 55 seconds?
One way that might work but it will take a fair bit of work in multiple repeated steps.
Select all the footage on the timeline and then use the Turtle/Rabbit slider to speed it all up to the maximum speed allowed. This of course won't be any where close to 55 seconds.
BUT... export your movie back out to video tape or to a full quality DV format quicktime file. This speeded up version becomes "normal" time. Now reimport to iMovies. Since this is now normal speed as far as iMovie is concerned, you can again use the slider to speed the whole thing up to the max.
Now just repeat as often as needed to get it as fast as you want. Export back out, reimport, adjust speed, export, import, adjust, etc.

  • How to cut unwanted section of audio clip in iMovie 09.

I had some problem removing section of audio clip that are too long for the movie. I finally found out how to do it. Here's how. Hope this will help others.
1.Using the playhead, find the area in which you want to cut the audio and place the playhead there.
2.Click on Edit - Split Selected Audio Clip at Playhead. This will automatically split the audio clip into two separate clips. Continue to do this until you create a segment that you wish to use.
3.Delete the extraneous segments by clicking on them and pressing delete.

Do you really have iMovie 08? I could give you the answer for iMovie 11 and FCP X, but if you are on iMovie 08, I assume you are backlevel on FCP as well?

  • Premier Pro 2014 opens Audition CS6 when editing audio clip from Premier

I own Adobe CS6 Master Collection installed (for legacy projects) and I also have the CC subscription. When I am running Premier Pro CC 2014 and then try to edit an audio clip in Audition the CS6 version of Audition loads rather than the CC 2014 version. Any help or thoughts on why this is happening would be appreciated.
    KR

I detected this with photoshop--I think its an OS issue--The OS doesn't appear to recognize the two versions are different.  In my case, I had PSP CC loaded, but then loaded the 32 bit version of PSP CS6 (so I could scan directly into the program using "IMPORT")  Windows changed the default to the 32 bit version.  When I tried to change default using windows, windows would not show the CC version as an option--just the 32 bit version.  Without editing the registry, I couldn't find a way to force windows to ignore the 32 bit version and open the CC version.  My workaround was to always open the CC version from the icon and then click on the file I wanted open.  It appears that if any version of the program is already running, the recognized default won't open.  This might work for you on Audition.

  • Export audio clip from iMovie?

Is it possible to export an audio clip that I recorded in iMovie to iTunes or GarageBand? I have a couple of recorded sounds in one of my iMovies that I'd like to use in another movie.

    1. Choose File->Export...
    2. Click the Quicktime icon at the top of the export dialog
    3. In the Compress movie for: popup menu, choose Expert Settings. Click Share.
    4. In the new dialog box, set the Export popup menu to "Sound to AIFF".
    5. Click the options button and select: Format - Linear PCM, Channels - Stereo, Rate - 48.000kHz, Quality - Normal, Sample size: 16 bits. Leave the other checkboxes unchecked. Click OK. (Next time you can use "Most Recent Settings" because it will remember what you did.)
    6. Give it a name and navigate to where you want to save it. Then click Save.
    7. Import the AIFF file into your new movie.

  • Converting VHS to editable digital files for iMovie

I am going to convert some of my old VHS tapes to a digital format that I would like to edit in iMovie. What format should I convert them to? Companies seem to offer AVI or Mpeg - which is better? Does it make a difference?
Can anyone recommend a company that does this type of work well?
    Dan

It sounds like you are suggesting that I should have them transfer the VHS analot tapes into an uncompressed version - is taht you you mean by DV?
DV is actually a digital compression format -- I believe on the order of 5:1 which, for video, is not very compressed. Basically, each frame is a standalone compressed "information picture" and can be edited as such in a video editor unlike Group of Picture (GOP) formats which open with such a frame and then use "difference" frames to store changes between successive frames until the GOP ends and a new one begins. These files (like multiplexed M2V/AC3 files used on a DVD) cannot be edited at the frame level based on the method referencing data to previous frames. On the other hand, such formats are more highly compressed (say on the order of 15-20:1) and are very suitable as formats for the delivery and distribution of content. A typical hour of DV normally requires about 13 GBs of video data space or a data rate of about 25.0-28.5 Mbps. Depending on the type of audio included, this could double and is why DV is so well suited for tape storage over a DVD at say 4.5-9.0 GBs of total storage space.
Is DV a miniDV tape or can you save the file in a DV format on a hardrive?
An external, high capacity hard drive would be an excellent medium for transfer
    1) If not transferring too many or too many at any one time
    2) If the service can/will provide transfers to DV
    3) If the service can write the files to an HFS formatted drive (needed for iMovie '08 to read them)
Some companies offer creating AVI files. Can these be read into iMovie or will these files also have the issue of too many cycles of compression and de-compression?
AVI is a file container used to contain "interleaved" audio content -- a of spatially maintaining synchronization between the audio and video content. QT, on the other hand, is a temporal media structure which synchronizes all content (audio, video, text, chapter tracks, text tracks, "Tween" tracks, etc.) are synchronized by an external clock reference. While the AVI file container is itself still supported by QT (even though its originator, Microsoft, dropped official support a decade ago), the codecs used to compress the audio and video content may not be supported. For instance, one of the current, more popular compression combinations is DivX/MP3. DivX is a proprietary, third-party video codec and MP3 audio is only supported by certain QT-based applications. Since iMovie '08 cannot access any third-party QT components, this file would have to be converted to one of the iMovie '08 "edit" compatible compression formats -- DV, AIC, Motion-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, and/or supported MPEG-4 or H.264 profiles with supported audio compression formats. So if you have a service create an AVI file that is not audio AND video supported, you will end up having to re-compress every one of you files to a supported format. You could, of course, switch to iMovie HD and, if the AVI audio/video combination is "conversion" compatible with QT (a lower requirement than being "edit compatible), then iMovie HD would automatically convert the AVI files as part of the import process. (I.e., if your open/create an iMovie HD DV project, then the files would be converted to DV. If an MPEG-4 iMovie HD project, then MPEG4/AAC.) Either method, as you noted, requires one extra cycle of re-compression before the content even gets into the editor for editing.

  • How can I cut audio clips within iMovie?

This may be a simple solution but I just can't seem to figure it out. I would like to add audio (music) to just the beginning of my iMovie project. But whenever I drop a music file into the timeline, it stretches it all the way through the entire movie.
Also, I'd like to know how to only adjust my voice to certain clips of the movie, and not the whole entire timeline.

If you only want the sound clip for a set period of time, drag it on top of one of the video clips near the beginning that will prevent the audio from becoming a 'background music clip'. Grab the title bar of that clip in the Project window and drag it until the whole background area changes from purple/green to the normal dark grey color of the Project window. Same would apply to your voice clips as well, just drag those sound clips right on the very middle of the thumbnail image of the video clip, and then slide it around to where it needs to be by dragging it to the left or right.

  • Trying to add spoken audio clip to iMovie with my internal microphone

Hi, I am creating an iMovie which is comprised of images. I am trying to record poems on my MacBook Pro with the internal microphone, so that I can add an audio clip to the movie. I have OS X, so can't use "Simple Sound".
Can someone suggest how I can add a spoken audio clip to an iMovie? Do I need to buy new software to utilize the internal microphone?
    Thanks,
    Diana

    Lots of wonderful options.
Audacity,(http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/mac) is a free audio recorder, that lets you edit out background room noises. Just make the audio file and import into iMovie.
Imovie 9/11 has a voiceover function, that lets you record your voice. You can import a voice file in iMovie 9 or 11, put beat markers in and then import images that will sync with your markers.
Imovie 06 (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/6.0/en/imv1077.html) easily lets you sync images with a voiceover.
Keynote lets you make a movie by doing a voiceover with your images.
I participated in several projects doing this kind of digital storytelling, and found iMovie 06 the easiest to use. I suggest, if you have the time, going to YouTube and researching digital storytelling and various forms of iMovie, or going to apple's tutorials. All Macs come with an internal mike that works with included software. Hugh

  • Portrait to landscape clips for Imovie

    Hello!
So I went to a community in a far away province to shoot a documentary, having a lot of confidence that my Iphone 5 can capture all the scenes pretty well. Then when I went home, I transferred all the clips to Imovie and everything was in portrait. All the clips are basically a mess, it is positioned only in the center with big black holes at the sides. I did not know that you need to use the video horizontally, I mean Iphones are originally meant to be used in a portrait manner. Is there any way I can switch the portrait clips into landscape? I tried the rotate-crop thing in Imovie, but it requires cropping a big part of the clip. I really need to finish this project soon and this is a very frustrating flaw for Iphones if there is no way to at least make this work.
Any help will be great appreciated. Thank you in advance!

    Hi
    NO
or put in a milder way. What's not there is not there - and can not be Magically repaired.
So if Rotate and Crop doesn't work - then only Make-up will make it slightly more attractive.
I mean by Make-up - to make the black pillars or borders nicer as if You use a nice photo of the sky or sea or leafs in a tree as sort of background and then put the rotated picture ontop of this - but now just mildly cropped - it might look better.
    Yours Bengt W

  • How to i split audio clips? Imovie 11

I'm trying to split a voice over audio clip  I recorded in Quicktime and imported into my project. I can't find the precision editor nor can I select the clip and activate the split clip command under the Clip menu.  It's dim.  I cannot find out how to split it.  Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
    I'm using iMovie 11.

Using iMovie 11 on Mac 10.8.3, when I right-click on a sound track, this is the menu I see:
    No 'split clip'.
