Edit Audio in Audition - Have sequence update

I've edited a sequence in Premiere. There are several instances from one footage item on the timeline whose audio I wish to enhance in Audition.
So in the Project Panel, right-click Footage-1, Edit In Audition -> Clip. This extracts the file, work on the Footage-1-Extracted.wav, save in Audition, come back to Premiere.
So here's where I'm confused. Now I've got Footage-1 with it's unedited audio and Footage-1-Extracted.wav. Tell me if this is possible: I'd like Premiere to know that all the instances/references to Footage-1 in my sequence should use Footage-1-Extracted.wav.
Merging seems to create just another clip in the Project panel. Editing a sequence in Audition doesn't make sense to me cause I'm not done editing. Thanks!

The problem here is the work flow.  Audition just isn't ready yet for the kind of integration we really need in order for it to be truly usable.
Right now, Audition is a destructive editor, which means all the work you do in Audition overwrites the original file.  Because of this paradigm, Audition creates those extracted files. Most NLEs work non-destructively, however, only reading the original files, never overwriting them.  What we need is for Audition to change its paradigm and becomes a non-destructive tool, using only metadata and either real-time processing or rendered previews for its work, always leaving the original file unaltered.
Put another way, what we need from Audition is the same kind of integration we now enjoy with SpeedGrade.  We need Audition to read the Premiere Pro sequence exactly as it is, without the use of 'extracted' files, and whatever work we do in Audition needs to come back over to PP as effects applied to the original clips, not as new audio files.  Further and unlike SpeedGrade, we need full editing ability at the clip and sequence level.  We need the ability to move audio clips around, lengthen or shorten them, add new clips, add or delete new audio tracks, add or delete the standard PP transitions, etc.  And all those changes need to be reflected in PP once we send the project back.
Only then will Audition be truly useful in the suite.  Until then, I recommend skipping any Edit in Audition work.  If you need to use Audition, do it separately from PP.

Trying to edit Audio from Premiere Pro within Audition thru the Dynamic link but it does not fire up Audition to edit. Seems like a common problem/bug. But no one has posted a solution. Please Help
    -Windows 7
    -Premiere Pro CC 2014
    -Adobe Audition CC 2014

You dont understand it was all working fine in the previous Adobe versions. matter of fact you can go on youtube and see a couple of videos that shows the work flow between Premiere Pro and audition by way of Dynamic link. If you edit a video clip in Premier Pro and want to add some music or simply edit the audio that is contained in the video there was a time within Premiere Pro you can just right click "Edit in Adobe Audition" and Audition would open with the audio clip in place. Much in the same way Premiere Pro works with After Effects thru the Dynamic Link. The Dynamic Link is the bridge between applications to work with each other. For some reason Premiere Pro and Audition Dynamic Link is not working properly.

  • Editing audio from a FCP sequence

I have just finished editing a long sequence in FCP and now want to get rid of a background audio hum in the background of all the clips. What is the easiest way to export all my small audio clips into STP, remove the hum, then re-import into FCP.
I'm totally new to STP and finding the workflow very confusing.
    Thanks!

RIght-click on the sequence in the assets window (default is Sequence 1, unless you changed the name) and click on send to>soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project

  • Editing audio clips in a sequence

I am very new at the Premiere Pro software but I'm learning as I go.
I am creating a video of clips but some are louder than others becuase of the location of where they were shot. How do I alter the audio levels of one clip at a time instead of the entire sequence of clips?
There must be a way to do that so I don't have to turn the volume up and down as I'm watching it.
Help, please. My deadline is fast approaching. :-)

  • Is there and ipad app that allows you to record and edit audio, but can record in the background?  This would be to record voiceover auditions/podcasts while reading a script

Hi wondering if anyone might be able to help me out.  I am an audio engineer and my wife is a voiceover artist.  We just got the ipad thinking she could record her voiceover auditions on the go, but we can't for the life of us figure out how to record audio while reading a script off of her email.
    Looking for an app that:
Either can record audio while in the background (garageband cannot)
OR Import text (copy paste I guess?) to read while recording
The app needs to  be able to edit audio and export or email out an MP3 - by edit audio I mean trim, fades, and move around sections.
Anyone have any thoughts on how to do this?  I have been looking around the web for answers for hours and can't find any.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi-  I've done a lot of research in this area and actually am just finishing a book on this subject which will soon be in the iBookstore.
The best app is TwistedWave.  It allows easy editing and recording, and also allows you record while you are in another app (such as a script your agent sent in your email)
I recommend MiC by Apogee as your microphone, available at the Apple store.
My book which goes in depth in how to get the best sound as well as how to edit is called:

I'll post here when it's live in the iBookstore!

  • Does Logic Pro X have spectrographic editing like Adobe Audition?

I'm an actor who needs to be able to record my voice and then clean up the audio to remove extraneous throat and tongue noise from the recording. The best way to do this is using spectrographic editing. Adobe Audition has this feature, but it's much more expensive than Logic.
Does anyone know if Logic Pro X has that spectrographic editing capability?

This is very true - the synths in Logic are good.  You may need to spend a little time getting the best out of them, but there are hundreds of videos on Youtube showing you how to do this.  Sylenth is awesome, I use it myself, but I also use all the synths in Logic too.
There's a wider point here though.  There's a common feeling (and can apply to musicians of all ages, skill levels and genres) that if they get a particular piece of software, or kit that everybody else uses, they'll be able to make music just like those other people.  It's why guitarists (like myself) spend ages and a lot of money buying exactly the same model of guitar and amp as their musical hero.   But guess what - you still have to learn how to play!  And when you do, you end up sounding unoriginal because everybody's heard that tone a thousand times before.
So my advice is, watch some tutorials and put them into practice - have a good play with what you've got in Logic first.  That'll take a while, so start saving now and then, if you really decide you need other sounds, you'll have a good head start.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what your question is. It sounds as though you've purchased an Acrobat Pro subscription. If you have Acrobat Pro, you can convert a PDF to Word by choosing File > Save as Other > Microsoft Word > Word Document.
Please let us know how it goes.

  • Live updating when editing audio

    Fellas:
First of all, I think AA3 is nice. I've moved up from the ancient Cool Edit Pro a few weeks ago.
One thing that I don't like or can't find is in Cool Edit Pro, you could make an edit while the audio plays, remove a breath or stumble as the audio plays.
On AA3, you have to stop the audio to perform the edit. That slows me down! I can still select the part I want to edit out, I just have to stop the audio to edit it out.
Can anyone tell me where the toggle to turn that on is or IF IT EXISTS? It's NOT a deal breaker but, just something I might have to get used to, again...
    Thanks!

    Hi Skip,
I believe the behavior changed when our driver model switched to ASIO. It did require stopping the player in order to change the underlying data.
I agree with you and everyone else who feels it brings around a slowdown when editing. I'm not certain if it's something we can address, bound within the limitations of the hardware drivers, but I'm going to write up a feature request right now asking it to be, at the very least investigated, and best case scenario, resolved under the hood.

Just downloaded Yosemite on my Mac and the Yosemite update for Garage Band.  Now when I open an existing Garage Band project and click on a vocal track, a message window says, "Could not find General Audio 10" and have no smart controls for that track (reverb, etc.)  Help?

Try this fix posted by Robinson Collins:
Re: I downloaded Garage Band 2x and the same note appears: there is no General Audio 10. Please advise. Thank you.
Try this: Go to your menu bar, select "Garageband" and then "Restore Sound Library..."
It can take awhile to download as it's a pretty big library. You might need to also select "Update Sound Library..." after the restore is done.

  • Ridiculous Audio distortion returning audio from Audition

Working in Premier Pro CC (not 2014), sometimes it happens once a day that I'd send audio to Audition, edit it and save it, and then when I return for playback in Premiere, it explodes in my ears with the most ungodly distortion, at FULL volume.
I cannot explain what a foul mood that puts me in (thankfully not sitting with a client), because of how severely painful it is when you're working with headphones and suddenly it blows up with the sound of Zeus' thunder clapping fart bombs, right in your ears. Adobe CC doesn't come with hearing insurance, does it?
All grumbles aside, this problem requires me to quit Premiere and open the same file, after which everything works normal, including the send-around via Audition. It works for a day, like it worked yesterday, and then today for some reason did it again.
I know I'll be advised to upgrade to CC 2014, and I have, but I've had too many times that it started too slowly or crashed, which is why I'm using the older CC version. I'll figure out the 2014 issues on another time, but I've been told numerous times that the older Premiere CC was updated to resolve this distortion issue, and yet I'm still experiencing it.
Any solutions to this problem anyone know of?

It probably won't make any difference as FCE only references the audio file that's on your hard drive. When you import a song you only tell FCE (create a file path) where to find it.
Regarding changing applications mid stream, not a wise idea, even though it will probably work OK going to FCP. Be best to complete the current project then make the jump.

  • How to send FCP edited audio clips for processing in Soundtrack?

    Hello
How do I send just the edited audio clips from hour long files to be processed in Soundtrack from Final Cut?
I need help as I'm trying to adjust some edited audio clips in Soundtrack Pro but when I send them from FCP to Soundtrack - it opens the whole original audio file and then any adjustments I apply in Soundtrack are being processed over the whole audio file not just the short edited audio clip that I want to adjust.
Normally I don't mind as my scenes are usually short and Soundtrack analysis over the whole scenes audio is usually desirable, but this projects files have been transfered from tapes as hour long AVI files (all the tapes clips transfered into one hour long files) and every FCP edited audio clip I send is being treated as an hour long audio file in Soundtrack.
I'm sure there's a simple answer for settings but I haven't been able to find it.  Any advice appreciated.
    Barra

Thanks Javi, my sequence is an hour and half duration so what I'm trying to do is save processing time in Soundtrack by just processing adjustments on the few audio clips that need processing.
I have set Soundtrack to open referenced audio only and with 5 sec in and out handles, but it still imports the whole original audio file into Soundtrack timeline upto the selected clip, I then double click in Soundtrack on the clip in brackets, and it then selects just the audio clip I want to adjust, then Soundtrack will just process on the edited clip but when I 'render to action' it seems to apply changes to whole original audio file - taking longer than I want.... frustrating
Also the sound always sounds very different in FCP than Soundtrack even after 'rendering to action' and rendering in FCP... this is not the easy workflow I expect from such expensive software programs, I understood that they work together in a fully integrated way, what's the problem! This is wasting my precious time and preventing me from editing not helping me, this is a common problem and yet I can find no help in the user manual - I'm not impressed!

  • Edits disappear in a Muliclip sequence

I'm editing a 2 camera multiclip sequence with a tight and wide shot. I have been doing this project for a few years and have never experienced this before. All my tight shot edits have disappeared and all I see is a continuous unedited wide shot on the sequence.
This issue only exists in clips which are sequenced together on the time line. The problem does not exist after the gap with any of the clips later in the time line.
I checked the auto save project and the clips in question were edited together in my last editing session but when I reopened the project recently all the tight shot edits were gone.
Does anybody body have any suggestions. I will re-edit, I'm only concerned that this might happen again.

Have you done anything to your system, prior to this behavior?...updates, upgrades, moved media...etc?
Sounds like pretty strange behavior...have you trashed prefs?, run disk Utility?...any other standard troubleshooting steps?

  • Edit in Adobe Audition

    Hi!
In Premiere Pro CC, when I select Edit in Adobe Audition>Sequence for a multitrack file all the stereo tracks become mono tracks in Audition's Multitrack Tab.  They end up labelled: Audio 1_1 Audio 1_2 Audio 2_1 Audio 2_2.
    What's the reason for this?
How do I get the transfer of the stereo audio files to keep intact the fact that it's a stereo file?
    Kind Regards

The audio file is directly in the project window. If I select the audio file, which is a wave, I go to Edit->Edit Original and Adobe Audition CC opens just fine; my audio files are associated with Adobe Audition CC. However, the menu item right below, Edit in Adobe Audition is greyed out.
In Windows directly, by double clicking on the file, Adobe Audition CC opens the file without issue.
I also tested the same scenario in Adobe Premiere CC and the exact same issue is occurring there. In Adobe Premiere CC, it was the only thing in the project. I tried different wave files and they all had the same issue. In After Effects CC it is the same thing.
Do I need to reinstall Adobe Audition CC so the dynamic link recognizes the application is installed?

What I was trying to do
I'm just trying to send some audio to Audition for editing. I did it once and it brought over my in and out points based on how I cropped it, which was perfect. Doing it a second time on another video however, did not bring over the in and out points but the audio for the entire video file. What am I missing?

Well that explains the bug portion of my post, but in getting around that (doing it properly). I don't think AfterEffects imploding is the best way to inform the user that that's now how it should be done.
That said, doing it properly, I'm not getting the results I'm looking for. I'm not getting the in and out points of my video despite sending the cropped version of the video.

  • Editing Audio from Timeline in Another Program

Often, one will want to edit the Audio on the Timeline, in another application, like Adobe Audition. Premiere versions allow for this to be done easily, and with exacting control.
Let's say that one has dozens of edited Clips on the Timeline, and they wish to edit ALL of the Audio. * Editing those individual Clips is easy, but how does one edit them all in one file, which will then replace the original Audio in the Clips?
The best way to accomplish this is to Export, or Share the Timeline as an Audio Only file. This Export/Share will be slightly different, depending on the exact Premiere program, and even on the version of that Premiere Program. Often, the Audio-only Export/Share is from the MS AVI Export/Share screen. One would choose Export Audio, leaving Export Video unchecked. If Multiplexing does not automatically set to "None," choose that now.
For this "round-trip" process, the Audio file format is very important. The ideal choice of Export/Share is PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit. This will yield an uncompressed Audio file, that almost every Audio editing program will easily handle, and is also the format, that one will want to Export, or Save from the Audio editor, for the second leg of our round-trip.
Import, or Open that resultant PCM/WAV in the Audio editing program, and edit, as is needed. When done, just Export, or Save (depends on the program) that edited Audio as a PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit. In some Audio editing programs, this will be listed as WAV (Uncompressed). The Sample-Rate and Bit-Depth are important, as the 48KHz and 16-bit are the ideal for any flavor of Premiere, and though Conforming will be necessary for editing, it will be easy on the program, and there will be no issues. Stay away from any compressed Audio formats/CODEC's, like MPEG/MP3. You do not want to throw away precious data at any step. That is why we use PCM/WAV for the Export/Share, and then the Export/Save from the Audio editing program.
When done, just Import that resultant PCM/WAV into Premiere. Wait a moment for all Conforming to complete, and then drag that WAV to the Timeline, on a free Audio Track that matches your WAV's Channel-count, i.e. a 2-channel Audio Track for Stereo, or a 1-channel Audio Track for Mono (these must match in Premiere). For more detail on channel-count and Audio Tracks, see this ARTICLE.
Now comes a personal preference for completing this round-trip. I like to leave my original Audio, just in case I change my mind. Gathering up and Trimming the original Audio can be a tedious task. As I have placed my edited WAV onto an empty Audio Track, I just go to Window>Audio Mixer, and Mute any/all Audio Tracks, containing my original Audio. It's still there, if I ever need it, but is now Muted.
    Hope that this helps,
    Hunt
    * Sometimes we want part of the Timeline's Audio, but that part spans multiple Clips. There is no need to Export/Share the entire Timeline, and then Trim it. Just set the WAB (Work Area Bar) to the part that we do want, and make sure to choose "Work Area" in the Export/Share settings dialog.
Also, and especially when doing just a segment, covered by the WAB, I like to position the CTI (Current Time Indicator) or Playhead (CS 5.5) at the beginning of the WAB, with Snap ON. As I drag my edited WAV to the free Audio Track, it will Snap into place, right at the beginning of the WAB.

There isn't any simply way to where you want to go.
You can export each track separately. Switch off the audibility for all the tracks except one. Export the track. Repeat for each of the tracks in the timeline. Export the video for reference.
