Edit column issue in Premiere Elements 9

Is there an issue with the Edit Column feature in the project window of Premiere Elements 9?
When I add a Description or Comment column, changes are not saved when I close and reopen the program.
Also, I cannot write any text in these columns to describe my videos (if I click on the space for writing comments, it just opens up a window to view the video) whereas I was able to do it with version 4 and earlier.
I am using the trial version before buying and would like to know if the purchased version has this problem or not and if it can be fixed?

I could be mis-remembering, but I think that Steve Grisetti has confirmed about what you indicate. I do not know if this was some sort of change in Adobe's thinking, and they did not clean up after themselves, or if this is just a Bug, that needs to be addressed.
Personally, I would file a Bug Report, with the full details, and hope to get a fix in the works.
Also, if I am mis-remembering, I am sure that Steve G. will correct me.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Video editing & playback issues: Adobe Premiere Elements 8

    Hello all,
I have made several attempts at transfering HD video  files from my camcorder to my PC and then editing.
When I try to play the transferred file, it is a little choppy and then gets worse as I edit it.
    Here are my specs/config:
    System:
    HP Pavilion a6720y
    Windows Vista 64 bit
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 440
AMD Phenon 9550 Quad Core 2.2Ghz
    6GB RAM
    640GB SATA drive, 7200 rpm
    Camera:
    Sony HDR-XR150
    Editing Software:
    Adobe Premiere Elements 8
I copy the video files from the camcorder to the computer via USB 2.0.
When I connect the camera directly to the TV the video plays without any issues.  So I know the AVCHD files are "good" and I suspect they are also possibly "good" on my hard drive, but just cannot be played or edited appropriately for some reason.
One input I received was that due to the nature of AVCHD files, I should convert the video to "I-frame codec" and then edit.  Can Adobe Premiere Elements do this?
    Any other thoughts/ideas?
    Thanks for any help.

My 3 hard drives are configured as...
    1 - 320Gig Boot for Win7 64bit Pro and all program installs
2 - 320Gig data for Win7 swap file and video project files
When I create a project on #2 drive, the various work files follow,
so my boot drive is not used for the media cache folder and files

You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down by trying to do everything
I find that the three drives I use work very well for me, for editing AVCHD video... some people use a 4th drive, so video INPUT files are on drive three and all OUTPUT files are on drive four... I only bought a mid-tower case instead of a full tower case (my bad... but had to fit in the space available on my office desk!) so I use the three drives that will fit
Depending on your exact hardware (motherboard brand & model AND USB2 enclosure brand & model AND external hard drive brand & model) AND the type of video file, you may... or may NOT... be able to use an external USB2 hard drive for SD (Standard Definition) video editing
Steve Grisetti in the Premiere Elements forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856208 and Jim Simon in the Premiere Pro forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856433 use USB externals for editing
A USB3 hard drive connected to a motherboard with USB3 is supposed to be fast enough for video editing (I don't have such, so don't know) but eSata DOES have a fast enough data transfer for video editing... I have not used the eSata Dock below... for reference only, YMMV and all the usual disclaimers

  • How can I edit FRAPS video in Premiere Elements?

Although FRAPS isn't the best source format for video in Premiere Elements, some folks at Elements Village have come up with a workflow that seems to work pretty well.
    http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67036
    Key elements are:
    1) The FRAPS software must be installed on the same machine you're editing your video on
    2) ffdshow should also be installed
    3) It is best to down-sample your video in FRAPS to 1280x720 at 30 fps before you bring it into Premiere Elements
    4) Output the video from FRAPS using the Huffyuv codec
    5) Edit it in a Premiere Elements project set up for Flip Mino HD 30 (although, in a pinch, it may also work in a project set up for AVCHD Lite 1280x720p)

    6xam
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 10 running on? For now I will assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
After you apply the Crop Effect (Edit Header/Effects/Video Effects/Transform/Crop), you click on "Edit Effects" toward the bottom of the Effects area to bring up the Properties Palette for that particular clip to which you have applied the Crop Effect. You should see
    Adjust the Crop sliders accordingly.
Please let us know if I have targeted your question. If not, please supply more details on what you seek.

  • Freeze issue in Premiere Elements 3

    Hi,
We are trying to solve an issue with Premiere Elements 3 for a customer.
Yes, I know it a very old version, but it is just a home user & it has been working fine for him.  He last used it several months ago with the same hardware & all worked fine.
Now when he goes to use it again it basically freezes up.  If you turn the camera on it pops up asking the application to use.  If you select Premiere Elements it opens up the window with "capture device offline" & doesn't seem to respond to any mouse clicks.   If you go to task manager & end the task (often get a message Premiere is not responding), go into Windows Movie Maker this works fine - you can even control the camera (start, stop, etc).
If you start Premiere with the camera turned off you can seem to navigate around menus, etc no problem (until you turn the camer on & try to capture).
Consequently I assume that the hardware is OK.  Because Premiere Elements worked before I presume that maybe an update or some new application is stopping it from working, but I'm not sure what it is.
Here is a summary of the system specs:
    Win XP Home SP2
    Premiere Elements V3.0
Sony DCR-HC96  (also tried their old Sony DCR-TRV355E but this gives the same symptoms)
    Firewire (onboard Asus P5N-E motherboard)
Any thoughts would be greatly appeciated.
    Gary.
    Perth, Australia.

    Hi Bill,
    Thanks for your assistance.
I tried all of the items you mentioned, but it still gives the same result.
Interestingly once it freezes if I go to task manager & End Program (the only way to close it) I can go straight to Windows Movie Maker & it works perfectly - I can even control the play, stop, etc.
Whilst this sort of proves it isn't hardware, I had a spare firewire card so I disabled the onboard card & put in the new card - but the problem is still the same.
The next thing I have tried is to install the trial of Premiere Elements 9 (the customer is happy to buy this if it solves the problem), but the symptoms are basically the same.  With the camera turned off, the software seems to work well & I can go in & out of all the menus.  Once I turn the camera on, the device appears in the pull down list (something like MS DV ...) but none of the buttons (eg play, etc) work & it sort of freezes up & task manager says its not responding.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Gary.

  • Does the student teacher edition of photoshop and premiere elements 13 have to be renewed yearly?

Does the student teacher edition of photoshop and premiere elements 13 have to be renewed yearly?

that depends whether you were using the subscription cc version or the perpetual license version.
if you can open, for example,  pse, click help and if you see activate/deactivate you have the perpetual license version and do not need to renew.  if you see sign in/sign out, you have the subscription version and will need to maintain your subscription to continue to use your cc program(s).

  • Has Adobe solved the crashing issues for Premiere Elements 10?

    Hi there,
I've been using Adobe Premiere Elements 8 for about 2 years now.  I do like this program and appreciate it being quite a straight forward,  uncomplicated,  video editing program.  One thing which really annoys me about it,  however,  is its constant tendency to just crash when I import and move around *.jpg images using motion tracking,  or just dragging something around the screen.  For example,  I film myself walking into a room with my hand pretending to hold a balloon.  I then import a *.jpg image of a balloon into the shot and move to position it in my hand as though it's really there.
My intention is to edit the balloon image to follow my hand while I'm in the room and,  while I could use the motion tracking feature,  I prefer to edit frame by frame,  or else the *.jpg image doesn't always line up properly with what it's following (it's close enough,  but I prefer doing it myself).
Whenever I move an imported *.jpg image on the screen,  it obviously becomes blocky for a moment until you wait for the image to become clear (I think pixilated is the right term,  but am not certain) or unblocky (ie curved edges,  which moved and became square,  become curved again).
What Premiere Elements 8 has been doing on my computer (which has an i5 processor,  more than enough memory and so forth) is to crash out of the program when I drag an image across the screen.
It has helped to move a picture slightly,  wait for it to become clear,  then move it slightly again,  but this still has a tendency to cause Premiere Elements to crash out.
CAN ANYONE tell me,  please,  if Adobe Premiere Elements 10 has this or similar issues because this problem alone is driving me crazy?
    Advance thanks.

    Welcome to the forum.
Many users felt that PrE 8 was a very weak release (kind of like Adobe's version of MS's Vista OS), but most users, with properly setup and tuned computers, find that PrE 10 is a very stable build.
For the issues with PrE 8 crashing, I would see this ARTICLE. It starts with a checklist on setting up PrE and the computer, for best results. Then, it goes into many tuneup tips, for both the computer, and the OS. Finally, it lists links to help with troubleshooting.
Good luck, and hope that something in the article helps,

  • Canon Vixia HFM40 video quality issues in Premiere Elements 10

    Hi,
I am trying to edit video from a Canon Vixia HFM40 camcorder in Adobe Premiere Elements 10 on a Mac, but the video playback and the exported video has quality issues.  Playback is not smooth when there is a lot of movement in the picture.  It looks similar to interlacing issues, but there are no horizontal lines when the video is paused.  Any ideas on how to solve that would be be much appreciated.
    Here are the specs:
    Video Format (Canon's XFP mode):
    - AVCDH MPEG-4 AVC/H.264
    - Resolution: 1,920 x 1080
    - Bitrate: 17 Mbps
    - Frame rate: 60i or 30p (problem occurs in both instances)
    - File extension: MTS
    Workstation:
    - Fall 2010 27" iMac, quad core 2.93 GHz Intel Core i7
    - Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2
    - 12 GB RAM
    -  Adobe Premiere Elements 10.0
Project Preset: AVCHD Full HD 1080i 30 (several other presets had the same result).
    Thanks.
    Ralph

OK, I've been doing some more research and I think I found the problem.  The choppy picture is due to Premiere Elements and VLCs inability to properly de-interlace the 60i video.  It gets played back in 30p, which does not create horizontal lines, but it is a lot more choppy than the native 60i, especially when there is a lot of movement in the picture.
I verified this theory by installing the latest VLC beta (from http://nightlies.videolan.org/) and playing back my source MTS file with De-Interlacing set to "On" and De-Interlacing Mode set to "yadif (2x)".  Those settings did not work with the current official relase of VLC (1.1.12).  The 1.2 VLC beta is not fully functional yet and I am not getting consistent results, but when I play that video several times, then after about 3 or 4 tries it plays back perfectly smooth, just like it is when playing back the native file from the camcorder connected to the HDTV via HDMI.
That also works with video exported from Premiere Elements 10 with preset AVCHD M2T - H264 1920 x 1080i 30.
The video is still choppy when played back in Premiere, but that does not really matter, since the output file produced by Premiere can be played back with VLC (assuming that the final build of VLC 1.2 can handle the files correctly).
-> Hunt: thank you again for your help.

  • Issues running Premiere Elements 8

Open Premiere Elements 8 and all I get is a grey screen.  Unable to start a new project or open old one.

    A.T. Romano
Q:  What is your issue....when you get the grey screen, do you have media on the Timeline? If you have media on the Timeline, what are its properties?
Is this a "it worked before but not now" or "it never worked before" issue?
A:  I launch Premiere Elements 8.   I get the Screen which has Organize, New Project and Open Project buttons.  If I select the New Project Button Premiere Elements 8 starts to load.  Then I get the software home page with the New Project Dialog box.  Enter Junk as the name and hit OK button.  Nothing happens.  The dialog box goes away and I’m left with the PRE8 form with the back bar at top with the menu in it and a greyish screen below.  Almost all of the options in the different menu’s are not avaialbe.  Ender File, New Project, Open Project and Recent Projects are available.  Select Open Project, and pick project from list and get message;  “Projects created with Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Premiere Elements are not compatible. Please use the appropriate application to open this project.”
The usual drill questions for Premiere Elements 8 users
Are you working from the 8.0.1 Update of the program?
Do you have the automatic Background Rendering and AutoAnalzyer features turned Off?
Have you looked at the issue with and without "Enable GPU Playback" enabled in preferences?
    A:
    Yes, using 8.0.1
I think I do have this turned off.  But can’t get to Edit – Preferences to turn Background Rendering on.
    No, but can’t open preferences.
    Q:
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 running on?
How many video cards/graphic cards does your computer use, 1 or 2. Whatever the case, is the video card/graphics card driver up to date
according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card(s)?
    A:
    Computer information.
    Manufacture – Dell
    Model – Studio XPS 9100
Processor – Intel Core i7 CPU   Memory – 9 GB
Operating system – Window 7 Home Premium  64 bit – Service Pack 1
Display adapter  - ATI Redeon HD 5670  Driver Date 5/17/2010   Driver Version  8.740.0.0 Per Microsoft, update version not available.  However, went to web and updated version to 13.251.0.0.  Issue still happens.
    No Import Updates available
7 Optional updates installed – retested issue and it’s still happening
    1 card.
Please let me know if you require additional information.
P.S.  I did try to uninstall and re-install the software, but that made no difference
    New information;
    When I launch Premiere Elements 8, there are three options;
    Organize
    New Project
    Open project
The last two don't do anything and give me the empty software screen.  The first one does seem to open the software up correctly.  I am able to get to the menus including Edit - Preverences this way.

  • Can i edit MTS files with premiere elements 13

I have a new camcorder and I have a problem editing with premiere elements 7, does elements 13  offer a solution? I believe it is the type of file that is not compatible.

In this thread I have no interests but to supply reliable information to you. What I have written stands as is. And, my answer to your questions will continue to be honest and for your consideration. Any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask me.
As for AVCHD.mts and AVCHD.mp4 in camera whose specifications offer the choice of AVCHD or .MP4.....both have been reported to use a form of AVCHD video compression with different wrapper formats (.mts and .mp4). Again, I did not post to go further into that. Please refer to the following link's post dated February 12, 2014 as one discussion of the matter.
    FCP.co Forum :: Topic: AVCHD vs. MP4 ? (1/2)
I did not discover that AVCHD.mts does not play back the audio portion of an AVCHD.mts file when played back in the Elements Organizer 13 player. That has been the reality of Premiere Elements 13/Elements Organizer 13 users who found this out by themselves later than sooner. And, I confirm their results in those cases. There is no fix for this at the present time, and that is a user to user honest non marketing report. If this Elements Organizer issue is not an important concern for you, then this is a non issue for you.
    Best wishes with your projects.

  • Is there any way I can edit .mxf files using Premiere Elements 12?

    Hello,
My camera records as .mxf files and my copy of Adobe Premiere Elements 12 tells me that it does not support this file type.  Is there any way I could edit these clips?  I've done some google searching I would personally rather not have to download a converter because I really don't trust many programs and I don't have the money to pay for one.

    KendallJones
Premiere Elements (any version) does not support files with the file extension .mxf.
You will need to convert them to a format which your version of Premiere Elements supports.

  • Editing full HD with Premiere Elements 10

    Hi,
I am a complete beginner in the business of editing, and would like some advice on editing full HD footage if anyone is kind enough to spare some time.  I am trying to edit footage taken with DSLR camera but the image of the footage on Premiere elements 10 is seriously slow or at times stops moving, while the sound carries on normally, although fuzzy and breaking. The footage has been recorded with 1920 x 1080 25 fps. The files I have tried to edit are MOV files. I read that transcoding will help making the footage more editable - any ideas how this is done?
The PC I am using is Asus Notebook U46E Series,Windows 7, 64 bit.  Processor: Intel(R) Core tm i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30 Ghz, RAM: 8 GB

1st, read Jerky or slow playback http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1071217
2nd, based on a LOT of similar messages, your computer is simply not powerful enough to EFFECTIVELY edit DSLR video
You need an i7 CPU to decode that video at a reasonable editing speed, as well as 2 hard drives (or SSD boot device and one hard drive) so Win7 and software are separate from the video files

  • New Nvidia driver to resolve crash/quit issues in Premiere Elements 8.

For Nvidia users, there is a driver update that will fix both of the following issues:
Premiere Elements 8 does not restart after closing on Windows
Frequent and inexplicable crashes with Premiere Elements 8
To resolve these issues, you should update your GPU (graphics card) driver to version 195.81 or higher by following the steps below.
    1.      Identify which GPU driver you have by right clicking on the Desktop > Properties > Settings and in the Display field it will be displayed.
    2.      Go to http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us and download driver for your GPU card. Its size varies from 80 to 120MB depending upon the GPU card model.
    3.      After the download is complete, run the driver install Installation. This should take less than 2 minutes.
There are no known issues that the latest driver update will cause.
***If the update steps shown above do not upgrade your system to version 195.81 or higher, then you may need to download the driver directly. Use the link below only if the steps above do not update your driver to 195.81 or higher. The download page for Vista and Windows 7 is located here:

However, now a piece of video media (in a pre-existing project) displays with the red "media offline" error.  The thumbnail in the media listing in PE8 is correct.
I can see the video in file manager, and it plays fine from windows media player.
If I try to import it again, I get the error "The import reported a generic error".

  • Editing menu screens in Premiere Elements 12

I have been using Premiere Elements 12 to put together a movie to burn onto a Blu-ray, but the image that I want to use as the background on the main menu screen keeps getting stretched horizontally.  The weird thing is that it looks fine when I'm just looking at the little preview window in the video editor, but when I click the "Preview Disc" button to see how it will look on a TV, then the image gets stretched.  Also, it doesn't actually reach the top and bottom of the screen the way I want it to, because the menu screen has letterbox bars that I can't get rid of.  I am using the "Secret Agent" template, if that makes any difference.  Is there any way to edit the template and maybe remove the letterbox bars so that it won't stretch my background image, or even just change the aspect ratio of the menu screen so that the bars will be less pronounced?
[Moved from Premiere Pro to the correct forum... Mod]

As far as I know Photoshop CC does not have an Adobe watermark associated with tryout as does Premiere Elements.
And, Photoshop CC is now marketed on a subscription basis.
Right now the only way I can get a full background replacement is to go into the main menu psd and replace its background
layer in the Layer Set with a 1920 x 1080 image.
I have found that will present full in the Movie Menu customization area but if I replace it with another image in Movie Customization those black "trims" are back.
This is what the Secret Agent (HD) looks like with its background layer replaced in the .psd using Photoshop CS5.1 and then the edited theme
opened in the Movie Menu customization area of the opened project
Just do not replace the Menu Background Video or Still that you see in the screenshot and you are OK.
I did a Snipping Tool copy of the background you posted to use for the demo.
We can talk about this some more in the morning.

  • Exporting Issues in Premiere Elements 11

In the program Premiere Elements 11 my video looks perfect, all my images are aligned and put in the exact way I want them to be but when I go to export it it moves the images and messes up the end result. I don't know what to do to make it export correctly, I've tried it multiple times in multiple different option it give me but it just won't export it right. What I've done is edited a person so they're pure black (shadow like) and put a white border around them (altering them with Eight Point Garbage Matte) but it gives me this.

Please if I can get help soon that'd be most appreciated because this video is need for the play we are going to put on at school next week. In fact we first big practice is tomorrow and we really need to to practice with the video.

    Please give the following information....
What is the project preset that you (manually) or the project (automatically) sets as the project preset.
If you do not know, please tell us what you see for Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for
Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Rate, and Pixel Aspect Ratio.
What are the exact export choices and settings for your Timeline content....Publish+Share/ then what?
If Publish+Share/Computer, then what? And when you make the choice, do you use the default settings

  • How to "edit out" audio in Premiere Elements 7

As I have already posted before I am new to Premiere Elements 7. Thanks to the help of the wonderful people on this forum we are on our way to completing our video.
We captured a wedding video from our camcorder. Unfortunately the announcer at the wedding spoke the wrong last name for the bride's grandparents. Question #1: We are trying to figure out if there is a SIMPLE way for amateurs to figure out how to eliminate the sound track of the last name.
There were others introduced who did have the same last name as the grandparents.
Question #2: Is there a way to use the correct last name he spoke elsewhere and "paste" it onto the imperfection? If it is possible, how complicated is it? We are true amateurs. I have the Adobe manual and the Steve Grisetti Guide to Premiere Elements 7, if the information is hidden somewhere in either of those books. So far I haven't found it. Perhaps I don't know the correct terminology to look up.
    Thank you, Mary

Hi,Mary. Thanks for supporting the book!
Here's the easiest way to eliminate the name. Remember, you can zoom into the timeline (pressing the + key) to get as close as you need to.
Position the CTI (playhead) just before what you want to cut. Click on the scissors icon on the Monitor to slice the clip.
Position the CTI to just after the part you want to cut. Click the scissos icon again to slice the clip.
Now click to select the clip between the cuts, then right-click and select Remove Audio.
That's the simplest way to do it. It will leave a silent second in the video though.
Cutting and pasting the audio from another section of the video might well work, if it matches pretty well. To do this, place the clip you're going to use the audio from someplace out past the end of the movie on your timeline (just so you have a place to work on it) and trim it so that it only includes the name. Then right-click on the clip and select Delete Video.
You can then place this audio clip on Audio 2, right above where you cut the audio.
If you really want to blend it, see if you can fit the new audio right into the spot where you deleted the old. (As it says in the book, you'll likely need to hold down the Ctrl key to do this.) Once it's in there (assuming it fits) add some short audio transitions on either side of it to blend it with the rest of the audio.
