  • Allow the user to control the width of the edit forum post input box

I would like to control the width of of the edit-forum post input box.  This could be:
automatically adjust the width of the box so that the box doesn't run off the right edge of the window.
have a user global preference to set the preferred width
at least, allow the user to change the width via the change size icon.  The three horizontal bars at the lower left of the input box. You can adjust the vertical dimension, but not the horizontal. TenFourFox 4.0.1. This is probably being blocked for some obscure reason.
Here is an example of an over extended right margin:
Curiously enough, the "software" let's me adjust the width & height of the add reason to edit text, but not adjust the width of the more important edit text box.

    Testing
Standard Reply box can be height adjusted but not width.
    Same with Advanced Editor
No Adjustment at all in HTL Editor
    Edit.
The Edit uses the Advanced Editor
    Only Height Adjustment again.
I do seem to remember someone posting about the width and saying they could drag it over the edge of the right hand edge (Into the grey surround)
This may have been a post in the lounge.
It didn't actually try it at the time but have played with it since and have not seen it.
Maybe it is something they "Fixed" in both senses of the word.
    Second edit.
I can't alter the box that currently reads "Message Edited by:- ..."
I also can't get this box to accept New lines  (they appear in the box but don't post that way)

  • How can I edit a post I've already posted?

I saw a button that said "Edit this post." I clicked it and got a notice that I must log in before editing my post. I was already logged in. Completed the longin info again, but still kept getting the message that I had to log in first. Closed Safari, reopened, re-logged in, went to the post, and then the button for editing the post was gone.
I see some discussion in this forum, but have not found a post telling exactly how to make the edit function work. Nor do I get results searching on "edit" or "edit post" or "edit forum post."
Nor do I find any mention of this in the Help section.
I did see one place where a person was asking a host to edit one of his posts. This could imply we can't edit our own posts; but then what is the edit button on a posted post for? In any case, it seems there should be some info about this somewhere, and perhaps the dialog box could be more explanitory (as in saying we must log in, when we already are).
    Thank you.
I WAS able to edit THIS message. This time the Edit button worked. Maybe the other time was a fluke, or maybe there is a time limit on hitting the Edit button. But again, why was that guy asking a host to do his editing. Any clarification would be helpful. Alas, I now see only two choices: a button to Discard and Cancel, and a button to Edit Message. I'll go with the latter and see if it means "Post."

    Hi ChicagoLarry!
If the 15 minute, Edit time span has elapsed, but you still have the post that you want to edit, open in a browser window, the  Edit icon, will still be evident.
But as you have discovered, if you click on it, you will be asked to login, which doesn't really make any sense.
Ideally, the message would be more like "You're allotted time to edit this post has expired."
I've made a suggestion to the Hosts.
Also, each time you edit an entry, the edit time is extended.
For example, if you edit a post 10 minutes after the initial time of posting, you will then have another 15 minutes, in which to edit again.
Each subsequent edit, adds another 15 minutes.
The discretionary editing of posts, by the Hosts, is usually done only for violations of the TOU, posted personal info, serial numbers, Email addresses, posting of commercial Websites, etc., not for misspellings, punctuation, or other minor posting errors.

  • How to edit a post in Apple Support Comunities?

If I just posted something and saw it had typos.   Is there any way to edit the post or remove it?  I have searched all over for an option to edit my post and see none.  I saw someone say that it was possible to edit within 15 minutes of making the post, but no mention of how to do that.

Not sure how fair it would be to leave the initial authorship content
open for editing too long after the thread was up, since that could
make replies to original content irrelevant, or discordant over time.
And people would be more reluctant to offer advice if the first topic
were to change; since nobody else can go back very far to change
the replies. Also, we'd not want to subscribe to a thread if the name
of it changed several times a week.

  • How to edit a post?

Well just from the topic, can some one tell me how i can edit a post that i posted B4 at any forum? Thanks in advance.

Posts can only be edited within 15 minutes of when you made the post. After that you cannot edit it.
You'll notice new green icon to the left of the Reply button about the post. Click on it to edit the post. When that icon disappears you no longer can edit it.

How can I edit a post that I made?

Hi Matt. There is only a very short window of time to edit a post (15 minutes). However, I have spotted your other post and requested a moderator to edit out your contact info.

  • Can not edit my posts

Hi, can someone here confirm that editing posts has been disabled I'm trying to edit a previous message of mine but the option for editing is missing. The forum software says I am logged with my correct ID and password.
    <edit>
Actually it appears the system doesn't allow message editing if someone has replied after it. I don't recall this being the case for this forum unless it's been changed??

    Hi guys
I can edit all my postings but after someone has replied to my question Im not able to edit the posting.
I think its a usual forum function. But sometimes Im also not able to edit my posting. Dont know why. Possibly it has something to do with the cookies or the ID time out.

  • How to edit my post?

    hi
i'm unable to edit my post and i couldnt find the edit option? how to enable it?
    thkx
    Prabhu

Try creating a new thread in the Test and Playground forum. If you are able to then go back in and edit the thread after you create it, then chances are your post that is giving you problems is a glitch that was just an unlucky coincidence with a server reset or something similar.
    Best Regards,

  • How do I edit a post?

I need to edit a post I created, but there is no edit option.
I have about 5 minutes left to edit the post.

It will be too late now (so if you want to add or correct info then add a reply), but if it's the first post (i.e. the start of the thread) then I think that you should get an Edit option via the Actions icon above the post
If it's a reply on a thread then the Edit button should show below the post.
For both you have 15 minutes from the original time of posting

  • Odd Alert While Editing a Post

During the last several days I've seen an odd alert some times when I edit a post. I'll post a message, then if I have second thoughts about the details of my post, I'll edit it. When I'm done I click on the poorly-labeled "Edit Message" button. A few times this has resulted in a pop-up box that states this:
    http://discussions.apple.com
Are you sure you want to leave this page?
Your message draft has not been saved.
Click OK to continue, or Cancel to stay on this page.
If I click on "OK" my change is posted correctly.

For me, at least, it continues to happen when editing a post and not manually saving it before hitting the Edit button. Before the recent site maintenance, I believe saving was happening automatically, whether from the original post or from editing. The original post does still appear to be saved automatically as soon as one hits the Post button. This behavior seems to be happening only from Edit.
    FYI using Firefox 3.5.8
Interesting: just now edited this post. Didn't get the alert when hitting Edit, and Save Now wasn't dimmed at the moment of hitting the Edit button, but when I returned for another edit, I saw that it had been saved. I guess this is erratic behavior. I got the alert earlier when editing in a different forum; could it depend on the particular forum one is in? I would think the alert is set to happen only when leaving an unsaved post, so the automatic saving must be what is erratic.
In any case, it's really not a big deal.

    Thanks for help

    Ok thanks anyway I solved.
I found answer from PaulM. (thanks Paolo)
I just wondered how I can post links in these messages. I saw other people doing it. So instead of typing the URL making it a real hyperlink like in a normal html page.

  • Editing a post with a image freeze

    Hi everyone !
    I just wanted to share a small bug I stumbled on, I posted there;

I don't think it would do much good to report this. I haven't heard of it and seems impossible to repro.
    Anybody else encounter this issue?
If not, I think we'll close this one and keep our eyes open for it again in the future.

  • Will we EVER be able to EDIT a post?

    -----
This is the only Forum I've ever seen that prohibits its members from editing their posts. That's a real hardship as we have to add new posts when we just need to edit....makes for a messy and confusing thread. Is anyone here ever planning to do something about that? (come on....keep up with the times....)
    -----

Sorry if you thought I was mean, it just sounded to me like you were expecting some kind of extended editing ability. As mentioned, there is a short period of time (OK, a really short period of time), with an icon added to the post during the editing time. Since the edit time is so short, your messages should be carefully though out, since there isn't time to change much. Sometimes i even wind up creating a message in a text editor so I can think about it for a while.
Once the editing period has elapsed, the only way to get the post edited is to ask one of the moderators - when you reach level 2, an additional link to report a message will appear, or you can post a request here where a higher level user can flag your message.

  • How do I edit my posted question?

Sorry for the newbie question, but how does one edit their post?

    blhooks,
First of all, Welcome to the Discussions!
You may not have realized, but when asking a new question you should post a new topic, which you can do by going to the appropriate forum and then selecting the "Post New Topic" link found at the upper left of the topics list on all the forums.
You query would probably be most likely answered best in the "Expanding Your iMac" of the new iMac Intel forums found @:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1112
    Hope that helps some,
    littleshoulders [:-)
PS. It's always best not to "tag" onto someone elses topic as this will attract the quickest and best help for your particular question.

  • Need to edit my posting.. How?

How do you edit a posting or reply to a topic? I made a mistake in my posting and need to correct it.
