Edit Existing Site With Dreamweaver

Im sure this question has been asked 100 times but how do I edit an existing site (published and on the web) with Dreamweaver CS5.5? I took over as webmaster last month at a company and would like to edit the companys website. How do I download the files off the web? I can do it with Contribute but not Dreamweaver.

Create a local site folder in DW.  Site > Manage Sites > New.
Go to Advanced > Remote info and enter your log in-details (FTP, host URL, username, password).
Test connection to server.
Then GET files from server.

  • How do I edit FrontPage sites with Dreamweaver 8 without messing them up?

I have to edit a friend's Front Page site using Dreamweaver
without messing up her ability to publish also.
I'm running Dreamweaver 8.0. I already installed an extension
for dreamweaver mx called "Import Front Page Site Wizard for
Dreamweaver" but it doesn't seem to work. Is there a version of
this for DW8? When I "import" the site using IFPSWFD it says
restart DW to complete the process, and when I restart it says the
new site "has been added" but I don't see it in my list of DW
    sites.
Does anyone have tips on using DW8 to edit FP sites without
    corrupting them?
    Thanks for your help!
    -jt

i won't touch front page sites where the client/user/owner
    intends to keep
on using frontpage. Not even with a borrowed ten foot pole.
if they will keep there fingers out of it, yes; it can be
    worked on. If they
want to keep using fp, no because in cleaning it up i'll
    break it as far as
they and fp are concerned. Or worry about breaking it which
    is worse and not
    worth the aggravation.

  • Editing FP site with Dreamweaver (was "Question please")

This may be a stupid question, but I am not that familiar with web design. I have a web page that I created using Front Page. Can I maintain that site using Dreamweaver?
    Thanks

At the beginning of this year, I moved from FP to DW.  There is a definite learning curve and you must bite the bullet and learn some CSS in addition to HTML.  There is great information on the Adobe website and lots of folks here who are very generous with their time to offer help.  And, yes, when posting try to describe your problem in a few words in the subject line.  You will get help much faster when you do that.

  • I cannot create a new business catalyst site with Dreamweaver CC 2014. The error message states that Dreamweaver cannot connect with server, try again later. How can I fix this problem?

I cannot create a new Business Catalyst site with Dreamweaver CC 2014 (Mac). The error message states that Dreamweaver cannot connect with server, try again later. In addition, I am also unable to load remotely a previously created Business Catalyst site as it says there is something wrong with my username or password. However when I put my password in and press test connection, it says it has connected successfully. What is going wrong and how can I fix this problem?
    Thanks

    Hi Ozy08,
Can you try the solutions mentioned in Re: Can't Login to Business Catalyst within Dreamweaver CS6?
If you still have problems, and you have a purchased version of DW CC, send me your Adobe ID, location, and contact details over a private message. Click my picture and use the message option.
    Thanks,

  • Can i make a dating site with dreamweaver

how can i make a dating site with Dreamweaver ?

The major dating sites like match.com are the result of thousands of hours of work by many computer programmers, possibly hundreds. Computer programming is not the same as web design. It requires, as Bregent pointed out, significant technical training the generally means a four year college degree.
When match.com tries to figure out who you should romance, when Google tries to figure out what you are really searching for, even when Netflix tries to give you movie recommendations, very serious database query algorithms go into play that are written by very smart database programmers.
So if you want to create a dating site for fun, to entertain your friends, refer to some of the suggestions above. Otherwise, have the right skills or be prepared to pay significant money to those who can do.

  • Edit existing Site

Can I edit an existing website created with Dreamweaver using the free trial Dreamweaver.

    What bregent said.
In order to connect to the existing website (set up a Remote Site Definition in DW) you will need to find the site FTP details (FTP host name, FTP username and FTP password).
If you cannot find them, you may need to contact the website host to get them re-issued.

  • Edit iweb site in Dreamweaver

Has anyone tried to recreate an iweb site using Dreamweaver on a pc? Why would you do this? Just for the experience of learning Dreamweaver. The first hurdle is trying to find all the images which are scattered instead of located in one images subfolder.

    > but I cannot figure out how to open
    > the main page and start editing it.
Read the instructions on the drupal site or elsewhere on how
    to modify or
customize the "template" system they use.
You cannot edit the actual pages of a drupal CMS in
    dreamweaver- it is all
php and included files and database calls. The "pages" you
    see in the site
don't exist anywhere, they are assembled on the fly by the
    drupal scripting.

  • Connect to existing site with DreamweaverMX 2004 (Was: DreamweaverMX 2004)

How do I connect to my exisiting website with the DreamweaverMX 2004?  I just got a new computer and the people who did my website no longer work on website designing.  They have left me on my own!

MX 2004 is a mighty old relic. It's probably not going to run right if at all on a modern operating system.
If you download a 30 day trial of CS6 or CC, you might have better luck.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/free-trial.html
The first step is to define your Local Site folder.   Go to Site > New site.
Tell DW where you would like to keep site files on your local hard drive.  See screenshots.
Then click on Servers & tell DW what your remote site log-in details are:
Root Directory is what your web host told you to use for your HTML files.  This varies by host and could be public_html or www or htdocs or none.  If unsure, check with your hosting provider.
More options:  check the settings recommended by your hosting provider.
Hit Test button to connect.  If all is good, hit Save.
In the DW Files Panel (F8), click on Remote Server.  Click the green DOWN arrow to GET  files from the server.
Switch to Local View, and edit your site pages...

  • I'm suddenly having problems uploading my site with Dreamweaver FTP?

I've been using CS6 for a couple of years and suddenly I'm having trouble uploading my site using Dreamweaver FTP?

Maybe your host did something on the remote server side.  Have you contacted them?
Do you have enough available server space?
Can you upload files with a 3rd party FTP client like Filezilla?

  • Editing Muse Site with InBrowser Editing

Is there a way to get the formatting options (bold, italic, hyperlink) to show up while editing Muse site content via InBrowser Editing (Business Catalyst)?

    Hi,
You can see the available option for Text editing here
Adobe Muse Help | In-browser Editing of websites using Third-party Hosting Service Providers

  • I created a website and a phone version with Adobe Muse. In order to add schema tags, I downloaded Dreamweaver and edited the website. Will these tags remain if I edit the site with muse again? Does Dreamweaver have to download the phone layout separately

Also, I want to add Schema tags to the Muse master page copy, particularly serviceArea tags, but I'm not seeing the elements in Dreamweaver. Where are elements from the master found in Dreamweaver?

    Hi,
I checked the first site, and there is no phone/tablet layout. On My phone, you desktop version appears fine.
regarding second site, I see the phone layout with template content, so I doubt, if you have deleted the phone layout folder from the server, but did not delete the layout in Muse file. Hence when you publish the site again, the folder was created again.
could you please confirm this, so I can test it further.

  • Newbie: Edit Drupal site in Dreamweaver?

    Hi,
I've got a trial version of Dreamweaver and I'm attempting to
use it with a Drupal site but not having any luck so far. I've
downloaded and installed the Drupal extension for Dreamweaver,
Dreamweaver will connect to the site via FTP and download the site
to my local machine, but I cannot figure out how to open the main
page and start editing it. I just have a directory with 14 folders
in it, no recognizable "index.html" file that opens with the page
on it, and the index.php file just shows up blank in Dreamweaver.
If someone who knows can please point me at the file I should be
opening in Dreamweaver I'd much appreciate it.

  • I want someone to help me redesign an existing site using Dreamweaver.

I am a marketing consultant and built a web site several years ago with FrontPage as the tool. I've now downloaded it into Dreamweaver and can edit it there but want to find a template (or a consultant) who can help me take it to another level. When I looked on the Adobe site at possible templates, I ended up talking to people who want to rebuild in Wordpress - which is not what I want to do.
I would like to be able to add some capabilities (like Search, log in, image sliders) and an updated look.  But I need to be able to maintain it myself over time.
I've been building web sites since 1996 and am finding it difficult to keep up with ALL of the technology (Ajax, Spry, whatever!).
Can someone help me?   Needless to say, I'm expecting to pay for services but want it to be in the Dreamweaver world, not WordPress.
    Thanks!
    Barbara

In one breath you're saying it's difficult to keep up with ALL the new web technologies and in the other breath, you want complete control over maintaining your site.   How do you intend to do this with DW if you don't understand ALL those technologies?  Just saying...

  • Edit existing page with new template

I am using Contribute 4, and am trying to edit an existing
page. it is my index page, and I want to start fresh with one of
the templates provided. However, I can't find a way to completely
delete all of the previous info, and THEN open a new template with
that current page. I have no problems editing the page as it is,
but I want to start new with this template. Any suggestions?

Yes I have got it in the root folder which is called Templates
    ROOT FOLDER OF SITE
         |
         Templates > *.dwt
Is it like this?  In other words is the Templates folder IN the root folder or is the Templates folder the root folder of the site?

  • How to edit existing site in iDisk/web/site/iWeb ??

I have a site saved on my iDisk that I had previously deleted from the iWeb program on my laptop. Now I would like to go in and edit it and I cannot figure out how to get it back into my iWeb on my laptop. Any thoughts??

You cannot do this. If the site has been deleted from iWeb and you do not have a backup of the Domain file that exists at username/Library/Application Support/iWeb before you deleted the site, then you must restart from scratch.
You can use the old site to cut and paste content back into iWeb to create a new site.
