Edit existing website

Hi guys,
the last time I tried to add something to my website via the
created Dreamweaver files I managed to completely ruin my website
and had to start from scratch. So this time I'm asking first: How
do I edit my existing files? I specifically wish to add names to
the pages as I forgot to do that and they name show up without
'unnamed' (or something similar) on the Internet. What steps do I
need to take to edit the existing website?
Thank you very much!
;-)

Do you mean "Untitled Document" ?
That's the title.
In dreamweaver, there is a text box in the center of the top
part of the
Design window.
If you haven't changed anything on the remote files outside
of dreamweaver-
Open dw. change to this "site"
in the files panel, open a file.
Insert a title. save the page
rinse/lather/repeat for other pages.
then do a Find in code for:
Untitled Document
to catch any left.
then upload the files.

If a web editor does not give you power to do full text editing and claims to be WYSIWYG, don't believe it. Chances are, it uses assumed standards of specific browsers, which are not fully http://www.w3.org/ compliant.

  • Cannot create new page nor website and worse cannot edit existing websites

When I click on File in the menu the only options that work are Setup Google AdSense and Page Setup...
All other options are grey and cannot be accessed. This means that I cannot edit my existing websites which is a major problem.
Any idea? Reinstalling iWeb did not help.

  • Contribute CS4 on Windows 7 64 bit - Attempting to edit existing website results in a blank page

    Hi,
I am an IT Tech and not an Adobe Contribute user so my apologies in advance for wrong terminology.
I just installed a new Windows 7 64 bit PC for a client and installed their copy of CS4 Contribute.
When they attempt to edit their website the page being edited ends up blank.  We can't work out why.
The same software was on an Windows XP PC and is the same website that they could edit previously without any problems.
Can anyone assist with settings or advice on potential incompatibility issues?
    Thanks
    Chris

This one is most likely related to permissions - Contribute simply does not have access to write the temporary file, but still attempts to anyway (resulting in a file being created / cleared on the server, but no actual information being written to the file).
This still appeared to be a problem even when running the application in Administrator mode.
I may get flamed by the super security-concience techs, but this worked for me:
Find the location of the temporary site / draft folder (default is C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Adobe\Contribute CS4\en_US\Sites)
Select the folders in the "Sites" folder
Right-click one of them and go to "Properties"
Click the security tab and click "Edit"
    Add the user "Everyone"
Select the "Everyone" user and check "Full Control"
    Hit OK, then OK again
I can't guarantee it will work, but see how you go.
    Thanks

  • Editing existing website

    Hello,
I'm sorry for my ignorance at this, but I'll explain my situation. I am completely new to DreamWeaver. I am attempting to update my fathers business website, which has been outdated for a few years. I have access to the FTP and I was told that DreamWeaver was the best way to edit the site. I am trying to edit certain pages but I can not seem to figure out how to edit the site.
I added the site and FTP to the workspace and have searched around for ways to edit the site pages but I could not figure out how to. I loaded all the files onto to DreamWeaver and under the assetts I see all the pictures, urls in HTTP form, etc..
My question is how to I access the specific url pages in order edit them. Thanks for your help, it's very much appreciated!

    Files panel
DOWN Arrow = GET files from remote server.
UP Arrow = PUT local files to remote server.
In Remote View, double click on an HTML page.  DW will ask if you want the dependant files (scripts, images, etc..).  Hit 'Yes' to copy them all to your local site folder.  Hit 'No' to skip.

  • How do you edit an existing website in iWeb?

how do you edit an existing website in iWeb?

An existing website as in: editing one which has not previously been uploaded via iWeb?
I don't think you can. With the wysiwyg editing of iWeb, you can create a whole new website, make a new subdomain site or even upload a few extra created pages.
Thing is iWeb will only upload or save what you are making in it, therefore you can upload a whole new website to a domain, or upload them manually with ftp-clients. That also means you can't import an exsisting, for example html, script and edit it.
So in short: for as far as I know, you can't import whole pages into iWeb and edit those, you can only create and upload them.
Or as in: editing one I've already made, and uploaded on the same Mac?
Then simple make the changes you want, and hit the "Publish" button in the far down-left corner of the window. It will then overwrite the site you currently have.

  • How do I replace existing website with one created with muse and hosted by business catalyst

My client has a website / URL in use.  I have designed a new website using adobe Muse that will replace their existing website, and I would like to use business catalyst to host the new site.  What do I need to do to transfer the URL to business catalyst, and post the new site live?

    Hi
You can use their BC login details and use them , which on publish the site will be under their account.
Please change the BC login from Edit > Preferences > Publish > Switch Accounts , for Mac it would Adobe Muse > Preferences

  • Access/edit existing mobile me domain on iWeb on a new computer

I recently had to change over to a different mac. I think I copied all the correct files I needed from my old mac. These files are now on my new mac. I need some help to find the best way to open up the iWeb software on the new mac and access/edit my existing website which is on mobile me.
I tried going to the domain file and opening it, but it says the document "domain" cannot be opened, then it says, Can’t open file “~/Documents/Domain.sites2.”
I also have the iWeb files on my new mac-- but I am not sure where to begin.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Brandon.
Your published site on www.me.com is a finished product. It cannot be "opened" as such with iWeb. iWeb only opens it's domain file. Taking what is on www.me.com and putting it into iWeb would be like trying to take a cake and have it become milk, eggs, and flour again. Just not the way it works.
You can take the code of your website and put it back into iWeb piece meal or use an HTML editor to edit it (although this requires knowledge of HTML). But lets not go there quite yet.
The file you need is the file that was on your old computer called "Domain". By default this file is located in Home > Library > Application Support > iWeb > Domain. (aka ~/Library/ApplicationSupport/iWeb/Domain)
Do you have this file from your old computer? If so, put it in the Home > Library > Application Support > iWeb folder and then double-click on it.
If you get the same error message try the following:
Ensure all your software is up to date (Apple Menu > Software Update).
Remove the following to the trash and restart the computer and try again:
Home > Library > Caches (I remove the whole folder. It will be re-generated upon restart.)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iWeb (There may be more than one. Remove them all.)
If the same error occurs again:
_Make a copy of your domain file
_Create a new folder on your desktop File > New Folder
_Put the copy of your domain in the folder
_Click on the folder and go to File > Get Info
_Go down to the bottom of the Get Info window to the section called "Sharing & Permissions"
_Unlock the padlock at the bottom
_Click on the cog and click on "Apply to enclosed items..."
_Try to open the domain inside the folder
If the same error occurs again, do you have backup copy of your data? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553
    Hope that helps.

  • Transfer an existing Website to Adobe Muse

    Hello friends!
I have a new question: It is possible, to transfer an existing website (with all the HTML and CSS documents with the help of the FTP server) to Adobe Muse? Or do I must create all the website again?
    Thanks!

    Hi Otis--
No, it's not possible, and yes, you'll need to recreate. I suppose the upside is that you should already have all of your assets ready, but I know it's more work, unfortunately. You can't pull in sites built outside of Muse into it, and you can't open up and edit Muse sites outside of Muse (easily, anyway).
    Good luck!

  • How to use rapidweaver on an existing website?

Hello - I realize that this isn't iweb, but close enough. I have an existing website created by a friend(dreamweaver). All of the pages are embedded jpgs with links/anchors to the other pages or files. Is there a way in rapidweaver to update those pages. I have the original files created in photoshop so I can edit them there. I just need a way to take away the old page and replace it with the new.
I have access to my host and such. Many Thanks!!

It's not that you cannot post your question here, it's that we don't really have the answers.
In the other forum they will know what they are doing.
    Good luck

  • I need help opening an existing website

I am trying to open an existing website and edit it.  When i click get I see a folder and when I open it in local view all I get is the graphics.

Sorry, no I'm not an Adobe employee, (there really aren't many here) I'm just a software user like you.
    Look at your site settings...
    1. Go to Site > Manage Sites and click the site you are trying to work with
    2. Click Edit
    3. Under Servers, click the Remote Server
    4. Click Edit
    5. Under Basic, you should have your FTP address (usually yoursitename.com for GoDaddy, it can sometimes be an IP address with other hosting companies), your username and password, then Root Directory
    6. Under Root Directory, make sure you have one of the two /public_html/ or httpdocs/ (call GoDaddy to verify the type of server you are using so you get the right Root)
    7. Test the connection
    8. If it works, when you connect using the Expanded Files window (with the server on the left and local files on the right) you should see a list of files, including your index.html page, some GD files like formmailer.php and missing.html and all the rest of your current site files.
9 If you see that list, click Get and DW should prompt you with "Get entire site?"
    10. Click yes and the entire site will download to your machine. From there open the file locally, edit and upload

  • Help! How to Download Existing Website into DW8?

Anybody got a simple 4-step formula to do this?  The support team for my IP/server doesn't have any idea of how to do it?
I need a complete file for DW8 so I can edit existing site. Current server has lost all of my files? Got to switch to new server?
Here is existing site I need to get accurate files into DW8. www.affordablehealthinsur.com  Thanks.

If the website is live, then I'm not sure how the files are lost - they are visible by visiting the link you provided.
Do you have access to the host server - with details how to log in?
If you do, then you download them (by using GET).
    1.  Create a Site Definition in Dreamweaver
    2.  Insert the Remote information (login in details to the server)
    3.  GET the files from the server
    Define a site:

  • Edit existing Site

Can I edit an existing website created with Dreamweaver using the free trial Dreamweaver.

    What bregent said.
In order to connect to the existing website (set up a Remote Site Definition in DW) you will need to find the site FTP details (FTP host name, FTP username and FTP password).
If you cannot find them, you may need to contact the website host to get them re-issued.

    Yes you can.
Install "Microsoft Web Matrix" on your Machine.
Then go to the portal>web apps and select the one you want to copy. Then click on WebMatrix in bottom right. Your WebMatrix will pop up. Click "Edit a Local Copy".
Thats the easy solution for creating a local copy and redeploying it.

  • Existing Website

My company has an existing website that was created in dreamweaver and updated in contribute. I have been asked to overhaul the website and I would like to use Adobe Muse. Can I transfer my hosting provider over to Adobe Muse? I know you cannot edit an existing website in Adobe Muse. In a perfect world I would like to start fresh on the website but continue to use the same website address.

    Hi,
Yes you can use the same web site address. If you are hosting it at Bc you will have to re delegate the DNS, this is how you can do that, http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/000/bc_6.html or else you can export the HTML from Muse and upload on the server via ftp.
