  • Allow the user to control the width of the edit forum post input box

I would like to control the width of of the edit-forum post input box.  This could be:
automatically adjust the width of the box so that the box doesn't run off the right edge of the window.
have a user global preference to set the preferred width
at least, allow the user to change the width via the change size icon.  The three horizontal bars at the lower left of the input box. You can adjust the vertical dimension, but not the horizontal. TenFourFox 4.0.1. This is probably being blocked for some obscure reason.
Here is an example of an over extended right margin:
Curiously enough, the "software" let's me adjust the width & height of the add reason to edit text, but not adjust the width of the more important edit text box.

    Testing
Standard Reply box can be height adjusted but not width.
    Same with Advanced Editor
No Adjustment at all in HTL Editor
    Edit.
The Edit uses the Advanced Editor
    Only Height Adjustment again.
I do seem to remember someone posting about the width and saying they could drag it over the edge of the right hand edge (Into the grey surround)
This may have been a post in the lounge.
It didn't actually try it at the time but have played with it since and have not seen it.
Maybe it is something they "Fixed" in both senses of the word.
    Second edit.
I can't alter the box that currently reads "Message Edited by:- ..."
I also can't get this box to accept New lines  (they appear in the box but don't post that way)

    CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE
    1. CTRL E has never worked and I have always edited my site via a link that my web designer has given me ,I don't get an error message just nothing happens,  any ideas?
    2. When I go through the link given to me by my web designer to edit the site the site appears but everything is smaller, font boxes etc, and not the correct size, I can edit ,however when I then exit editing and  check to see if my site has changed nothing has .
Viewing the site outside of incontext editing all is normal, correct size etc , it is only when I'm in editing that the site appears different and not right. This is a recent problem and all  ( apart from CTRL E )  has been fine.
Its almost like I have 2 websites one out here and one in incontext editing , any suggestions
    Many thanks

  • Canot post thread to Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Forum

Is it just me or is there an issue with posting a thread to the Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Forum? Every other forum I have tried has worked OK, but the XE forum results in a refresh of the currently displayed page. I am not able to reply to an existing thread either.
    Thanks

I tested and the post link now works.

  • Editing Forums/Sites

I'm new to the world of video editing and I'm looking for some forums or websites where I can talk to other editors. Basically to learn from others some tips of the trade. This board is great for iMac related subjects, but I was hoping for a site or forum thats more for editing in general from people who know what they're doing.
    Thanks for the help.
    -Dax

..And - I don't know if you'd like the content or not - a Russ Meyer movie, like "Supervixen" or "Beneath the Valley of the Ultravixens" ..for camerawork and editing. He gives you -j-u-s-t- enough time in the extreme long shots to notice, say, a truck on the horizon ..then a cut to a medium shot: precision timing..
Walter Murch gets a lot of the attention because a publisher chose to turn into a book a speech which Murch had made in Australia. So he became the 'de facto' expert (..apart from having won 3 Oscars..) ..and he has that arch and patrician aspect which seems so 'scholarly'.
Terry Rawlings - if I remember correctly - gets his own, standalone, onscreen credit as 'Supervising Editor' of "Blade Runner" before the action even begins! ..And if you watch the movie carefully, on DVD, you can see that they had a bit of difficulty matching-up some shots, and you can imagine the problems of rummaging around on the cutting-room floor, trying to find a scrap of film to link one sequence to another.. it's often what you don't see, or don't notice, which shows the skill of the editor..
    <goes off into irrelevant anecdote>
[..When our print of "Starship Troopers" got chewed up in the projector near the end (..it was 'Estar'-based non-snap film, so it didn't break, but just got mangled..) I had to chop out the gnarled and mangled bit - a sequence of a fight with a giant crab in a cave, I think. As the other short clips showing the approach to the cave, and the rapid exit from it (..interspersed amidst the rest of the fighting..) made no sense without the fight within the cave, I chopped out those (undamaged) clips, too.
A dissatisfied customer demanded his money back - after he'd seen the film a second time somewhere else - because his friend had told him about the crab-fight scene, and he'd not seen it when he saw the film at our place, and then when he did see it somewhere else he couldn't understand how it had been missing from our print ..there just seemed to be no break in the action where the scene might have been..
I gave him his money back, and myself a pat on the back: the edit - done on an unwieldy 35mm projector, not on a Moviola or Steenbeck editor - had gone completely unnoticed! ..Technical note: the soundtrack(s) on a 'release print' (cinema) film are displaced so that the sound of any scene is some way along the film from the corresponding picture. You can cut the film for the picture, or for the sound, but not both at the same spot! ..With lots of 'urgent-music' accompaniment, dialogue, and explosion effects, a simple cut where the picture changes to a different scene could make the audio - especially the music - jump unacceptably, so finding the right spot to cut both can be tricky..]
    </end of self-congratulatory anecdote>
Editing is just choosing what you want the audience to see, and what NOT to see. It can sometimes be very difficult to decide to throw away beautiful material that's really not strictly relevant to the pace, or sequence, of the story-telling. Some editors over-indulge (..that shot of the carefully built replica pub in "The Long Good Friday" goes on a touch too long, as if the editor, or director, is saying "look what we built so lovingly, and it cost s-o-o-o much to build, and now we're going to blow it up"..) and good editors give allegiance to the film's story, not to the money that's gone into it, and which the producer wants to see onscreen.
Editing is about discarding, not just including..
..Same as with anything that's written: it should -f-l-o-w- and you shouldn't notice, or miss, what's been cut out to make the better result.

  • Editing Forum Posts.

When someone asks a question, provided they have notifications enabled, any replies to their post will be signalled by the arrival of an email.   But.   It is easy to overlook or omit part of a reply and the 'edit' function allows for this to be corrected.
So does anyone know if the edit is signalled by a second email?   I ask the question because someone could be replying to an 'incomplete' answer when a correction is already in transit.

So does anyone know if the edit is signalled by a second email?
No, it isn't, and for that reason it is sometimes better to make a new post with the additional information.

  • Where can I find a user-guide for the awfull Text-Editor used to enter/edit these forums entries?

I am desesperate to understand how quite basic functions (just as one of many examples: how can I paste text, that I have formatted in MS Word and want to paste into a Forum Post-Entry?) can be done with the primitive and awful Text Editor used to enter/edit Forum Entries. Notice, that like many other Adobe users, I am not familiar at all with HTML and it is therefore a description of the badly named "Full Editor" that I am looking for.
Where can I find a User-Guide for this Text Editor?
My recommendation to Adobe: exercise enough  brute pressure on the developers of this primitive Text Editor to force them to provide something more reasonable, more powerful and more intuitive.

    Thank You Jochem
I was trying to understand how I could do things as simple as inserting text that I had previously copied. Since there are neither command menüs nor buttons for the Insert of previously copied text, I was trying a mouse right click.....and was being offered in the context menu the choice between "Insert Link", "Insert Image", "Alignement", and "Insert Table"....... but no possibility of a plain insert of previously copied text.
Now, I realize, that Clearstream supports at least the keyword shortcut of "Ctrl V" ........that I am not using in any other software (I never use any keyboard shortcuts).
Since Clearstream does not support reasonable choices in the contextual menus, I will need to memorize the most important keyword shortcuts.
By the way: I detected now, that the "Ctrl V" keyboard shortcut allows me to insert formatted text.
Even, if I will now begin to be able to use reasonably Clearstream, I am quite surprised to see that such a software provides neither reasonable Contextual Menus, nor a User Guide, nor........
Thank you again Jochem for your patience with me.

  • I have Adobe Digital Editions Library and need to transfer some books out of one computer to another?

I recently got a macbook air and want to transfer some books from my Adobe Digital Edition Library that is on my Apple iMac onto my new Macbook Air. Anyone know how to do this?

    Hi pamilafaye,
I've moved your question from the Acrobat.com forum to the Adobe Digital Editions forum, as you're more likely to find someone to answer your question here.

  • "Problem with links in Oracle 10g Express Edition Application Interface"

    Hi.
Under Object_Interface>Browse>Procedure the "edit" and "compile" links are not working. Also I am unable to see my code when I click on one of the procedures. Kindly help me out.
    Thanks & Regards
    Sri

My laptop didn't start this morning. Can you help me out?
(Go to the Express Edition forum at Oracle Database Express Edition (XE) and give them some hints about what the problem is. )
At the very least you will need to tell people: operating system, browser, whether you have Firewall turned on, whether you are using anti0virus, whether yo have upgraded the Application Express interface.
You can volunteer that information, or you can wait until people ask for it, but you will need to provide that information. And if you force people to ask - it's quite likely they will get bored with your problem.

  • Authorize computer in Adobe Digital Editions

Can multiple users authorize one computer on different windows login accounts?  Several family members in our household have adobe IDs + library cards.  When I connect my NOOK color to transfer an ebook within Adobe Digital Editions, it compares the email address registered on my device to the email address authorized within the Adobe Digital Editions (which is my daughter's because we set up her ID first).  Does this limit only one user per computer when downloading ebooks through this software?

tjb04 I would recommend posting your inquiry to the Adobe Digital Editions forum.

How do I return an e-library book on adobe digital editions?

You should ask in the Digital Editions forum,

    This is the Reader one.

  • How do I authorize digital editions on my laptop? I have authorized it on my desktop PC without a hassle but now I can't transfer downloaded books from my laptop to my ereader.

  • How can I edit a post I've already posted?

I saw a button that said "Edit this post." I clicked it and got a notice that I must log in before editing my post. I was already logged in. Completed the longin info again, but still kept getting the message that I had to log in first. Closed Safari, reopened, re-logged in, went to the post, and then the button for editing the post was gone.
I see some discussion in this forum, but have not found a post telling exactly how to make the edit function work. Nor do I get results searching on "edit" or "edit post" or "edit forum post."
Nor do I find any mention of this in the Help section.
I did see one place where a person was asking a host to edit one of his posts. This could imply we can't edit our own posts; but then what is the edit button on a posted post for? In any case, it seems there should be some info about this somewhere, and perhaps the dialog box could be more explanitory (as in saying we must log in, when we already are).
    Thank you.
I WAS able to edit THIS message. This time the Edit button worked. Maybe the other time was a fluke, or maybe there is a time limit on hitting the Edit button. But again, why was that guy asking a host to do his editing. Any clarification would be helpful. Alas, I now see only two choices: a button to Discard and Cancel, and a button to Edit Message. I'll go with the latter and see if it means "Post."

    Hi ChicagoLarry!
If the 15 minute, Edit time span has elapsed, but you still have the post that you want to edit, open in a browser window, the  Edit icon, will still be evident.
But as you have discovered, if you click on it, you will be asked to login, which doesn't really make any sense.
Ideally, the message would be more like "You're allotted time to edit this post has expired."
I've made a suggestion to the Hosts.
Also, each time you edit an entry, the edit time is extended.
For example, if you edit a post 10 minutes after the initial time of posting, you will then have another 15 minutes, in which to edit again.
Each subsequent edit, adds another 15 minutes.
The discretionary editing of posts, by the Hosts, is usually done only for violations of the TOU, posted personal info, serial numbers, Email addresses, posting of commercial Websites, etc., not for misspellings, punctuation, or other minor posting errors.
