Edit .Gif

Hi,
I am developer not photoshop professional. But for some reason our creative person is absent for some days.
Now I want to edit .Gif file. please help me.
As per forums discussion I am trying to open the .Gif file using photoshop but it showing me warning that "This is an animated Gif. You can only view one frame.Saving over this file will result in loss of information."
Please help me in this task..

**I am re-posting this since I was informed that I had placed it in the wrong forum area.**
Hi! New here and this is my first post, so go easy on me. I am hopefully in the correct forum for this.
I have PS 7.0, OS is W2K Pro utilizing an Intel P4 2.5 CPU, 1.5gig of RAM, and predominantly use Firefox 1.0.7 for my browser but still have IE 6.0 available, if needed. Hope that fills the bill for info you might need to answer this.
I've been using pc's for about 8+ yrs now and have played around with plenty of image editing programs since my early days on a pc, but probably doesn't put me much past a novice level of experience. If nothing else I know my way around a computer.
Since I am currently building my first personal website (using MS FrontPage 2003) I would like to know how to make GIF's from my own library of image files. AND I am extremely curious about how to edit existing GIF files as well. What program or programS do I need for this? Since this is all for personal use I have no intention of buying any high-end/pricey programs, but would be willing to purchase software that might make the job easier/faster for my time.
Any suggestions?

You can open an image and do a Save As. Better way is probably to use Save for Web, as this helps you optimise the quality of the image etc.

What exactly do you want to know? GIF is just an image file format. It's rather quirky, but has its place. You can make animated GIFs - if you really must, as they're a PITA - PS 7 has all the facilities you need. Guess all you need is a good general book on PS 7. There are probably quite a few available cheap nowadays.

How Can I Edit Gif Animation

I have a gif animation of a cat playing a sax. In ImageReady I want to edit it to replace the sax with a microphone so I "Placed" a vector gif of the microphone- after erasing the sax and cloning to fill in where needed. The problem is that when I attempt to move the microphone in the first layer, it happens to all the layers and if I try to move it to a new position in any other layer, it moves in the others too. How can I make it "stick" in each layer, in different positions? I have tried to lock all the layers but the one I am working on... I just don't know what I need to do. thanks

Here is one fairly quick and easy way that should work with Win98. Create a new object, but not a Lookout object. Click on the activeX tab and look in the Recommended folder. There you should find Microsoft Web Browser. Select this as your new object to create. Change the name if you want, but leave everything else blank. Now from Windows Explorer simply drag the GIF file and drop it in the object display. The animation should begin doing whatever it does right away.

How to edit gif?

I guess this is the right forum..... Ok im tryin to put a face on somebody elses body thats inba gif. Im assuming you do this by editing frame by frame. If I copy over tge face in motion mode no matter what it copies it to the first frame. If I copy over in default mode (sorry imva newb im not sure tge correct terminology) it creates a new layer How can I copy on to exact layers and not just the first one? Ive tried merging but the layer with the cropped out face just disappears

The addition of any Image to an existing Image will always create a new Layer in the destination Image. This is actually what you want, as you can use effects, like Free Transform, to position that "face," in your case, and Scale it to suit. Then, when it has been Transformed, as needed, you would just drag it to each Frame (assume that you have an animated GIF), and can then Transform again, if necessary.
I do have to admit that I edit a lot of Video, but almost never an animated GIF, so there might be some little tricks, tips or maybe warnings, that others can share with you.

Edit GIF file

I have Gif file as button for my website menu, How can I change the text on them,and The I have gif file for my header and I nead to edit and delete some of the text there too.

(I have bought them as template and have the right to edit them)
P.S. Altough the vender provided me with the full website page as PSD, But there are no layers, Is it the way it should be or ...?

It is possible if the file was not in a ZIP file.
The Photoshop version should not affect it but PS 7 is pretty ancient. Makes me wonder about the vendor.
For simple things like that I advise you learn how to do it yourself – it's not difficult.

Editing .gif animations

I was given a number of .gif animations to edit and re-deploy
to the Web. Each anim has about 40 frames. I need to delete 2 small
spots on the image in each frame. I was hoping that I could do a
mass delete that would "take" on all the frames. I couldn't find a
way to do it. I then tried to go to each frame and do it one delete
at-a-time. What i found was that I could see and edit frame 1 but
couldn't advance to the next frame to edit it. What am I doing
wrong?

Hi Al,
Without seeing the actual image and knowing what version of
Fireworks you have, it's difficult to give the exact solution.
However, there could be at least two ways you could get this done
with little effort.
If the two spots in question can be covered up instead of
removing, you can create a new top layer in the first frame, draw
some cover graphic directly on the problem spots and share the
layer to all frames. This will essentially hide the problem spots
in all frames throughout the animation.
If the spots can't be easily covered, there is a slightly
more complicated but just as quick method that involves extracting
all frames of the animation into a single layer. Let's see if the
first method works before going into details unnecessarily. :-)

Edited gif file will work in a viewer, but not in email client

An animated gif file received in my email client, after editing will not work in the same email client, but is working properly in a browser. Further, the background in the altered gif is black in the email client instead of the non-pixelated file that was "saved for web."
I had received thsi working gif file and made changes to send the altered animation back, wherin I encountered this quirky littel issue.
Anyone had this problem or have answers to what's going on here?

Please post more information to make your question clear. What’s the type of project you are using? Universal app? Windows phone silverlight app?
The Sqlite libraries in runtime project are different with those in WinForm. But you have not mentioned what libraries you are using in runtime, so I assume you are using this common ones.

One thing important you need note is that we have no access to the entire file system in runtime app, copy the file to local storage then use it.

MVM_*.tmp files locking portable drive(s) when editing gifs

I have a bunch of random files named *MVM_*.tmp randomly split between my second internal drive and a portable drive (or more if another external drive is connected) when editing or opening a .GIF file in PS CS5.
These files make it impossible to remove the portable drive without first saving my work and closing PS (once I had to reboot in order to remove the drive). Also, often as not, some of the files remain on the portable drive.
No 3rd party plugins, just vanilla PS. I saw another thread but that was about PNG files (this happens too), not GIFs.
Also happens when Liquify tool is used. Really bugging me.

I get those MVM_tmp's at the root of all non-system drives whenever I save a PNG (they usually clear when I quit PS, but not always).
But anyway, even without them I still can't release external drives with Photoshop open, I always have to close it first, as long as PS has had its fingers on any of the files on the drive. However, this is nothing special with Photoshop, Outlook does it too just to name one.

Animated Gif with large base image & small animated part.

Hello guys
I'm not really sure how to explain that, due to my limited English comprehansion. I will try with images.
I can easily create animated gif out of multiple layers, given each layer is identical, with small changes accuring over time.
But I yet to figure out an animated gif, that uses one large image for the base, and only small part of it is animated.
I always get the animated part working, without the large base applying across all the frames. All it does, is flashes once
the frame is reached and then moves on to being transparent, showing only the small animated part.
For example, this is a GIF made with Galaxy S4, of my friend playing with his phone, imported into PS CS6. On the Galaxy,
after I record the GIF, I can use my finder to touch, mask and freez parts I don't want to move, and leave only small, animated bit.
When I import it to PS, it shows one layer with full image, and bunch of frames with the animation part only.

Problem is, once the image is open with PS, I'm not able to export it to keep it working in the same manner. Given the Samsung's
gifs are 8 to 10mb, it's hard to edit it, to make it more size friendly.
The gif clearly works the way I describe, so there is a setting or method I don't know about.
If PS is not best tool for editing GIF, what other apps would you recommand I use for it?

This has been an ongoing issue for me since I switched from Powerpoint to Keynote. Most of the animated gifs with transparent backgrounds that I used with Powerpoint are no longer transparent in Keynote. You may want to search for those earlier threads on this topic...
To summarize: I've had to open up my animated gifs in After Effects and use the Color Key effect to restore transparency, with mixed success.

Animated gif picture support for iphone 4s or iphoto app

i love it to use animated gif pictures in the imessage chat, but it is still not possible to view these pictures in the camera roll or in iphoto.
would bw great if apple would make it work to play gif pictures in original size.

It's not likely that Apple will add gif animation support into iPhoto, not even the desktop application supports it.
As far as viewing animated gifs saved in your camera roll, there has been a work around to select the gif and share it using the "Email Photo" option. The gif will play while in the email compose box and when you're done viewing it you can simply press cancel to quit the compose email mode.
Search the app store there are lots of apps that allow you create animated gifs and you may even find some that will let you view them more easily.

How do I import gifs on Lion OS?

Hey, okay so I bought a new mac it has OSX Lion, and I downloaded my Adobe Creative Suite CS4. The one hiccup and the only thing I used it for is edit gifs. When I go to file import - Video Frames to Layers is an option however I can not load a gif into the program. I tried * and everything is still greyed out. I think it's missing a plugin. Adobe tells me to upgrade but you can't upgrade from CS4 to CS6 and the people at Mac tell me that even though my product isn't that old Adobe products can adapt fast enough. I want to know if there is a viable solution to what should be a simple problem or should I move on from Adobe because it is too expensive.

Nope when i open it a box comes up telling me it's an animated gif you can only view one frame, if only Adobe made it that simple.

Layering several gif animations

I'm not sure if this is even possible but hey, you got to ask.
Basically I want to edit gif animations but not go through every single layer and make a tiny adjustment to each one.
As an example, I have an animation where I want to give someone a big head. Is it possible to have two versions of the same animation (one large and one small) and simple copy/paste and animated sequence from one to the other? So all the frames from the big head animation will be moved into the smaller version without all that fiddly frame by frame in a 50 frame gif.
My apologies if this is making no sense! I can't seem to explain it right...
And if CS5 can't do it (heaven forbid) does anyone know what can?

Okay, this looks helpful. I've read what I think I'm supposed to read and I've managed to copy one animation over into the other. That still leaves me to go through it frame by frame and erase the edges etc. This has to be done manually doesn't it? I can't use the eraser on multiple layers.

After inserting editable regions, DW CS3 tells me none exist...?

I am having muliple problems with templates on this particular project, that I have never seen before. I was going to break them into multiple
questions, per the instructions here at the forum, but all of these relate to the same template code, which I will post below, so I think it would be
more efficient to include the related questions in this thread.
Background
I created this template by first scraping the client's existing site, which is a dynamic CMS site, with HTTrack. Secondly, I opened the HTML file generated by that processs, and saved it as a template in my DW project, which automatically assigned it to the "Templates" folder, and is accessable via the "Assets" panel (usual stuff.)
The reason for starting with a scraped version of existing is that this project involves moving the site off of the CMS platform and into HTML/CMS, yet preserving essentially the same design.
1. The most obvious problem I have is that in the subject line: after adding a couple of editable regions to my template,
when I save/preview, an error message comes up saying "your template has no editable regions, do you want to proceed?"
2. In doing the save as template operation, I am prompted with "Update links?" and I do. When I open the template, all looks good in DW, however as soon as I do a preview, I get a completely raw html page with NO css styling, no images, no fonts, etc. Conversely, if I do the same step, yet choose not to update links when prompted, then I get a template that looks completely bare in DW (no styling, no images, etc.) yet looks fine when previewed...?
Additionally, one other thing I tried was doing the save as template, choosing not to update links, and then moving it out of the templates folder into the main project folder - Here, it both looks fine in DW, and previews, yet I am unable to use it as a template (does not appear in assets, cannot use "create new from" or "apply", etc.)
I have also tried changing from "site root" to "document" in terms of linking, yet nothing has worked. Every time I have created a template on other projects, all has just worked fine from the start, so I am really stumped here.
The project will have too many pages to not use a template for updates, so I am hopeful that I can figure out what is causing this. Following is my template code:

There are (or can be), of course, editable regions in the head of a document. Typically, around the <title></title> you will find 'space' to put links etc, and meta tags:

So it's not so much that you can't have editable areas in the head of the document, it's more that you can't overlap or improperly nest ANYTHING.
You can also (am I repeating myself?) make a tag's attributes editable. I use that feature most notably for applying different IDs to <body> tags for different neighborhoods in my sites. By applying different body IDs, I can control more specifically elements on those pages. But that's a conversation for another time!

I have a report where I am giving edit link for each record. By clicking this user can go to another page where they can edit this record. But, the requirement is that this button should apprear only for those records where its status is of certain value. How can I make this dynamic ? Any suggestions are appreciated.

I need help adding text to a GIF

I have opened up a GIF in photoshop that I recently created and wanted to add text to it but I can't find the Timeline optinon in the Winbdow tab to add the text to each frame/layer.

this forum is for photoshop elements and photoshop elements doesn't support editing GIF.
