Edit image in CS5

I have just upgraded to Lightroom 4.3 and now find I cannot edit images in Photoshop CS5.
Shortcut does not work nor going to - edit in photoshop.
Photoshop seem to not be linking as it is not highlighted when I click on it.
I've tried reinstalling 4.3 but still cannot edit/send image files to Photoshop

Lr 4.3 should have found CS5 as external editor.
First make sure that no dialog is suppressed: Go >edit >Preferences >General tab and click on <Reset all Warning dialogs>.
See screen shot:
Then try to set up CS5 as "Additional external editor" in >Edit >Preferences >External Editing tab.
Choose an external editor
You can designate an application to be used as an external editor in the External Editing preferences dialog box. After you choose an application, you can always use Preferences to change to a different application.
In the External Editing preferences, click Choose in the Additional External Editor area.
See screen shot:
2.     Navigate to and select the application to use, and then click Open (Windows) or Choose (Mac OS).
Note: You can also select an external editor by choosing Photo > Edit In Other Application from the Library or Develop module. You'll be prompted to navigate to and select   the     application to use. After you choose an external editor, the name of the application appears as Edit In [Name of Application] in the Photo menu.
If this doesn't help you have to bite the bullet and follow Adobe's advice on this problem. See here:

  • Editing Image In CS5 32/64 from Elements 9 Still doesn't work!  Why?

Ever since upgrading from Elements 5 (which worked fine with the various versions of CS5 fine for years) to v7, v8, and for the past 6 months v9 - I cannot reliably use the Edit in Photoshop command from the organizer in elements!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I end up with the file being deleted or Elements doesn't know that the file is no longer not being edited and refuses to turn off "Edit in Progress".
Has anyone come up with a way to do this that does not result in your file and or catalog not being deleted?
    This is really ridiculous.
Why is this such a problem for two programs that are from the same company?  Not to mention it is a choice on a menu?
Further, it is not specific to just one PC.  I upgraded my Photoshop PC to a newer model during this time and the new one is just the same as the previous.

It’s worth checking that CS5 is correctly set up in the prefs.
    In the Organizer go to:
    Edit à Preferences à Editing
Check the box “Use A Supplementary Editing Application”
Then browse to the Photoshop Editor.

  • Can't edit LR3 image in CS5 32bit

Hi, I recently got a new PC and now can't open images in CS5 32bit from LR3. I used to launch CS% then right mouse click image and "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS5" but now CS5 launches but no image appears and i get an error message saying The Lightroom catalog named.... cannot be opeened because another appliation already has it opened Quit the other copy of LR before trying to launch" - but there nothing else open.
    Another message I get is:
If I don't open CS5 32 bit first and just ight mouse click image and "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS5" the image opens normally in 64bit CS5 but I can't apply my Nik filters from the 64 bit version. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling LR3 and CS5 without fixing the problem.

  • Sudden loss of ability to edit LR5 images in CS5

I have no idea what has happened today, but suddenly I can't edit my LR5 images in CS5.  I've never had this issue before.  When I select the LR5 option to edit in CS5, CS 5 launches and then just sits there.  No image appears in CS5 and I never see the dialogue box from LR asking me if I want to edit the original or a copy with LR adjustments.  Really scratching my head on this one.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have a deadline approaching.  Running on a 6 year old MacBook Pro.  I've tried closing and reopening the programs as well as a hard reset.  To my knowledge, I have not done anything to change any preferences.
Update - dug into all of my CS 5 preferences and found it was running in 32 bit mode.  I disabled this and the problem went away.  Not sure why this worked, but it did.

In researching the issue I read that to edit in raw you need a camera model requirement of at least 7.3 which only works with CS6.
That is correct. Your camera was first supported by Camera Raw 7.3. Camera Raw 7.3 will not work with CS5. You need CS6 or CC.
Being new to all this I see that my options are to upgrade to CS6 or convert by using DNG converter and paying a monthly fee. Two things I know nothing about and don't know which is would be more beneficial.
I'd appreciate any advise on which route to go and how upgrade and what it may cost.
It all depends on your preferred workflow and your budget.
Using the DNG converter is free. There is no monthly fee. You use the converter to convert all Raw files from the EOS 6D to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5. That's an extra step every time - every photo. Some people don't like the extra step. Others don't mind.
Camera raw, DNG | Adobe Photoshop CC
Or you can upgrade to CS6 (non-Cloud) and pay the upgrade fee
    Creative Suite 6
Or join the Cloud and pay the monthly fee
Or join the Photoshop Photography Program (US9.99/month) and get PS CC+LR

  • Problem returning image to LR3 after edit in PS CS5.  Help!

After adjustment in LR3, I edit in PS (CS5). I finish with "save" but image does not return to LR3. I do find it in my hard drive  Photo folder. Then it's a PIA to re import to LR3 for printing.
Very frustrating, Can someone help this old guy?

    dorin_nicolaescu wrote:
The copy in CS5 does not include "Edit".
Well, that might be the problem.
First, why isn't there a "EDIT" suffix? Did you change that option on purpose?
Lightroom might be importing your Tiff as a sidecar to the original. To confirm this, you can check the Metadata panel, to see what the Sidecar field contains. If it has a tiff in there - that's the problem.
Dorin, I do not seem to be able to find a "Sidecar" field within my Metadata panel.  Is this something I have to set up somehow.  All of the examples that I have seen of using CS5 from LR make no mention of this feature, consequently, I was unaware of it. I assume this displays somehow within the Library module?  Is there something that should be turned on, or off, for this to happen.  I would appreciate your expanding on your explanation.  Thanks.
    Regards,
    WesternGuy
P.S. Bob,  I am not trying to hijack your thread by any means, just trying to understand something that even I was unaware of, and hopefully we will both benefit from this.

  • Likely bug with external editing (in CS5 not CS6 beta) and edited image not showing back up in LR

I have come across something strange today that I've not seen before. I'm running LR 4.0 under Win7 64-bit. I usually use Photoshop CS6 beta as my external editor, but invoke CS5 when I have to use some tools that don't support the beta. Here is the scenario:
    * I have CS5 open
    * I externally edit an image in CS5 and Save it from CS5 when I'm done
    * The edited image does not show up in LR
    * I close LR and reopen it
    * There is the edited image!
I have duplicated this many times this evening. I don't think I've seen it when I've used CS6 beta.

Something strange is going on because I had the behavior reported of edited image not showing up after using another filter, Nik Silver Efex Pro 2.

  • How do I save multiple versions of an image from CS5 to LR4?

After using "edit in" to take an image from LR3 to CS5, I would then save the edited image by "save as" then add -1 for an edited version, -2 for b&w, -3 for a funky edit, etc. (i.e. name-1 or name-2 would be typical file names) They would all save to lightroom. However, since I upgraded to LR4, I can't do that anymore or it doesn't save the image in LR. This has thrown my whole workflow out of whack - especially since I want to use the album module and need those versions of the images for the album.
Please help. I'm getting behind on work while I try to figure this out.
    Thanks in advance
    Jeanie

You won't be able to do that until you upgrade to Photoshop CS6 and ACR 7. As it is now, from LR4 to CS5, Lightroom has to do the rendering and that requires that LR4 save out a tiff first them open it into Photoshop. I'm also pretty sure this applies to CS5 even if you are using ACR 6.7.
When ACR 7 in CS6 comes out, Lightroom can use a scrit called Bridge talk to send the image from Lightroom 4 into ACR 7 and then into Photoshop. With this workflow, LR4 doesn't have to save the tiff before sending it to Photoshop CS6. From there you'll be able to do the multiple Save As and have LR4 know where those images are...

  • Edited Images Do Not Refresh

When I edit an image in an external program (PS, Illustrator), Dreamweaver doesn't show the changes. It insists that no changes have been made. Refresh doesn't help, nor does using any of those idiotic internal image editing buttons in DW. (Half of them are greyed out most of the time anyway.)
There's more information & frustration at this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2181158#2181158 ... which was mysteriously marked "Answered".
Here's  an example: I have a graphic in an HTML document, stored locally. I  edit the graphic and save it, but DW continues to use the older preview  image. I can see the updated image in Live View, but it actually reverts  back to the earlier image when I return to Design Mode! Madness! Why  would it do that? It also fails to update the preview image when I upload & use absolute URLs to identify the image.
This was not an issue in CS3 IIRC. I think the addition of those image-editing tools in CS5 have screwed things up somehow, like DW has decided it is the only program on the machine.
This is one of those things that stops workflow dead in its tracks.

Also, the issue seems to happen only when working with absolute links
--  I create a lot of HTML emails for clients, and I'm pretty certain
that's the only time I run into this issue. For the rest of my work
links are root-relative, and seem to update fine.
This is why I said what I said because that's what I was afraid of.  I've been skeptical myself of DWs abilities at handling remote content in your specific situation, which unfortunately is very common.  What I would recommend doing is what I have done and submit a feature request to Adobe for future versions since they seem to be moving a bit quicker now after publishing the CS5.5 release to accomodate for HTML5 and CSS3.
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
Personally speaking my recommendation was an HTML email mode where the "browse" function could potentially work with remote connection (eg: FTP) and select the files creating absolute links as you go, and have the ability to turn on inline CSS writing permanently (unlike the current drop-down option in the Properties window).  That was just my suggestion, but the more suggestions people send to Adobe about this, the more likely it is to happen.
And just as a final note based on what you describe it is a caching issue.  What is happening when working with remote images is that DW downloads a copy locally and then you see that.  Live View always refreshes since it runs against the server, and the Refresh button "should" re-download all images from the server to replace the cached versions, but that does not appear to be working.  You might also want to submit a separate bug report using that same form (there is an option saying Feature Request or Bug Report) so they are aware that the cache not refreshing as often as it should is being viewed as a bug.  From my experiences in working with HTML emails I tend to push people towards services like Mailchimp that allow me as a designer, to simply give them a ZIP file containing their work, they just upload and send.  No absolute linking is necessary since the images are hosted by the ESP so it allows me as a designer to work with all local files, zip and go.  There was another service that someone else mentioned on the forums that has a similar feature that I do apologize that I don't remember the name to because I have no experience with that service, but it's definitely something to consider if you are setting up an account with an ESP.  Unfortunately, there are also places like Constant Contact that has its own custom markup that you must use to even track links in an email, so believe me when I say I've seen both sides of the spectrum.

  • Opening images in CS5 from Lightroom 4

    Hi,
Can someone explain why, when I edit an image from Lightroom in CS5 ( or other plugins ), that when I save it and go back to Lightroom, the edited image is not there.
The original is there but not the edited version. It will say 2 x 2 for example, so I know the edited version is there somewhere, but I cannot see it in the filmstrip.
The only way I can see the edited image is if I close Lightroom down and restart it. Then it appears next to the original. Obviously that is not ideal.
I would appreciate any help, I hope its just a setting somewhere.
    Thanks,
    Dave.

Have you tried resetting your warnings in the preferences dialog?

  • How to start editing previously edited image files?

When NEF (raw files) in LR4 are edited, it generates two additional files: tiff and jpg (by "save as").  Later on, when I want to furhter edit those images, how do I start with?    Obviously, I could re-edit from history panel of the orignal NEF file or tiff file using CS5.  I wonder which approach is more efficient or convenient?

    >.So TIF files or JPEG files are only created for a specific purpose. And once that purpose is fulfilled (e-mail, printing, etc.) That file is deleted. The only file I keep in most instances is the original >raw file. There is not a separate database for TIF files so I don't understand your question
I have a hummingbird folder and also its  LR  hummingbird catalog.  Upon reading your post, I deleted all hummingbird  tif files (which were generated when edited NEF files were sent to photoshop by "Edit In Photoshop CS5"0  from hummingbird folder.   There is no single tif file in the folder.  But I kept the original NEF and jpeg files.
When the hummingbird catalog was opened in LR4, the libray grid still shows all deleted tif images but with a question mark in the images, indicating that these tif files are missing.(see the attachment below).
This indicates that simply deleting tif files  does not remove their database from the  hummingbird catalog.   This explains my previous question about how to delete all information related to tif files from hummingbird catalog database.    .

  • Un-edited Images Won't Open Following Export

Greetings, and I hope you can help with this irritating little problem which either cropped up recently or which I just recently started to notice:
    • I have, say, a folder of 10 images which I Import into iPhoto 5. Of those, I edit 7 in iPhoto (red eye tool, cropping ..... anything at all); the other 3 remain unchanged
    • I then export all 10 images to a folder, using the Share Menu, which seems to work normally.
    • When that folder is opened in Finder, the 7 edited images show the normal filename and the expected image-type icon. The 3 unedited ones show the filename but the icon is for a document.
    • Finder > Get Info on those files shows that they are indeed documents, as far as Finder is concerned at least.
    • Attempting to open them results in a "File can't be opened ..... ColorSync Utility can't open files of this type ..." error message.
The fix is fairly simple: I simply edit those files to append a "xxx.jpg" suffix, either manually or using ABFR for bulk jobs, and now it all works fine. The icons change to the correct type, they open in Finder and elsewhere, and etc.
Does anyone have any idea of what is going on and how and why ColorSync Utility is getting itself mixed up in the middle of what should be a straightforward process here? I don't mind the workaround, or not that much, but have to wonder if it's indicative of something else gradually going hinky either in the app or in the Library.
    TIA for any assistance.

Same here. I've never had trouble with this function before.
It opens the Photoshop application with all the menus/windows, but it never opens the actual image I chose to work on.
I'm on a Mac, using OS X Yosemite, 10.10.1  Lightroom is version 5.7  Photoshop is CS5, version 12.0.4
FWIW, I also can't automate>Photomerge ... . Makes me think Photoshop, not Lightroom, is all wacky. I tried dumping PS preferences

  • Duplicate TIFF files when using "Edit in PS CS5"

    Hello there,
I'm using LR 4.3 and CS5, with ACR 6.7 installed. Whenever I'm using "Edit in PS CS5" comand inside LR, automatically I'm getting a duplicate TIFF file added to my LR catalog. How can I avoid this? Thank you for your time!

    bcondoral wrote:
So this happens because 4.1 is compatible with ACR6.7 and 4.3 is not?
There are two basic behaviors regarding Lightroom and Camera Raw versioning:
If the Lightroom version and the Camera Raw version are equal (meaning LR 4.3 and ACR 7.3) Lightroom passes the image from LR to Photoshop using ACR to render the file. In this case, LR doesn't need to render the file and to the -Edit save when opening into Photoshop. Photoshop does the render and when saved, will pass that file creation back to Lightroom for adding in the catalog.
However, whenever the LR version and ACR version do NOT match, Lightroom does the rendering (to be sure of proper rendering) and save the file on disk before passing the image to Photoshop. So, if you are using mismatched LR/ACR versions, this second behavior comes into play.
As ssprengel correctly notes, there was a slight modification to these behaviors when LR 4 first shipped because it shipped before Photoshop CS6 and ACR 7 shipped. LR 4.0 and 4.1 (the quick dot release for camera compatibility reasons) were made to work with ACR 6.7 in Photoshop CS5 with the first behaviors working...
LR 4.2 and above do not have the ACR 6.7 compatibilities so the behavior of the LR render and file saving requirement kicks in.
For optimal compatibility both LR and ACR should be kept in lock-step. Since the release of CS6, ACR 6.7 is the last version of ACR for CS5, so you lose some intigration and functionality by not upgrading to Photoshop CS6 and ACR 7.x.

  • LR3 Won't Open Images in CS5!

    Hello!
I've been running both LR3 and CS5 for months and months, and now suddenly, when I go to "Edit in Photoshop CS5..." an image, it won't open in CS5! It always worked great before. Now, instead, CS5 does nothing, or throws up an open dialogue box of its own. What gives? And, sometimes, after trying to open images to edit them in CS5, I'll notice that CS5 now has, in its "Open Recent..." drop down menu under the File menu, some strange file names with an .ini suffix, or long strings of letters and numbers that mean nothing to me. I'm running Mac OS 10.5.8 Help! This is very strange!
    Tom

My issue is resolved! I simply updated LR from 3.4 to 3.5, and also updated to the latest CS5, and everything is working fine now. My problem does have one similarity to yours, though: I recently added an external hard drive, where my LR catalogs and images are now being stored. I don't know if adding the external hard drive caused LR3 (or CS5) to somehow lose track of where the image was that needed to be opened!
Anyway, all is working fine now, and I'm a happy camper.

  • Don't want edited images showing up in same folder as RAW images

As I go through my catalog of RAW images, I'll select an image (or more if I'm doing a pany/stacked), then use the "Edit in CS5" command.  After I edit the photo and save in a new/different folder (usually as a .jpeg), the saved image will then show up in my RAW catalog, too.
I don't want this.  I have made a catalog for RAW images, and it gets confusing when images show up in a catalog where I only expect RAW images.  How do I stop edited images showing up in a catalog not intended for them?
    Thank-you.

I don't think you can do that. External Edit in LR is designed so that the result represents one further stage in the processing of your photo, so it will automatically added to your catalog, and stacked with the original, if you chose so.
For what you are looking for, try using export with a Postprocessing option of "Open in Photoshop". This will not add the result to your catalog, unless you've marked "Add to This catalog".
