"edit in original in AE"?  (CS5)

Hi,
I have a sequence where I took one clip, right clicked and entered AE to edit at original. When finished closed AE and the clip was returned to PPro. In AE I did a tracking to remove some camera shake. Now this clip is stuttering when I run it in PPro.
What can I do to remove the stuttering?  Use a proxy or encoce the clip to a new footage and import that?
I have a footage from a Canon 7D 1280x960 (I think it was) at  60fps.  I have an I7-2600K, 16GB memory and an ASUS GTX275 graphics card where I have patched the file to use the Mercury engine.
Maybe I am on the limit of what the card can perform?
I am a newbie and trying to figure out how theese thing work together so I can created a smooth workflow when I start to edit more footage.

I'm assuming you're using Dynamic Link--that is, you have an After Effects composition living as a clip in your Premiere Pro project. Dynamic Link can be a great timesaver, but it's not going to playback in real-time in most cases. This would be especially true with something like Warp Stabilizer, which is computationally intensive.
One option would be to render out the stabilized clip from After Effects, import it into Premiere Pro, and replace the AE comp in your sequence with it. Alternatively, you can force a render of the DL AE comp by marking it with the Work Area Bar and using Sequence > Render Entire Work Area. That will generate preview files as dictated by your sequence settings, and allow you to playback the stabilized clip in real-time.
Thanks for a clear and understandable answer!
I will try it out.

  • How to edit a original photo saved on my hdd in iPhoto without copying?

I have all my photos organized into folders saved in Pictures on my HDD, and i have unchecked the box in iPhoto which copies them into iPhoto, but what I want to know is how do I edit the original photo? it is edited in iPhoto but not in the original location (that picture is still the old one) i don't really understand why you would want 2 of the same picture, saved in different locations? I want to edit in iPhoto and it change the original! can this be done?? if not what app can?? Thanks!

iPhoto is not a Photo editor. That's what you're looking for. iPhoto will never edit an original file, that's why it's a lossless processor. Photoshop et al are editors, they will change the original file and so are lossy editors. You prefer that way of working so you're best off not using iPhoto at all.

  • Why when i edit an image in LR5 then decide to edit further is PS i go to  photo then edit in then i choose CS5. this used to work but now when i do it the image is in the original state not the edited in LR?

i need help. i just got LR5   yesterday i could edit in LR then go to photo and choose edit in photoshop and it worked. today its not what happens when i do this now is it open in PS as the orginal not edited in LR settings. how can i get this to work again???

Raw files always go straight to Photoshop without showing the "Open a copy" dialog. However:
SInce Photoshop CS5 uses an older version of Camera Raw compared to LR5, that older version isn't capable of interpreting all the settings that LR5 passes to it (normally LR sends the original raw file, plus the list of adjustments, over the Photoshop - and Photoshop renders the image using its own Camera Raw engine).
You would normally get a dialog indicating there is a Camera Raw version mismatch, giving you the options to "Render using Lightroom," or "Open anyway." You want to Render Using Lightroom.
you may have turned this dialog off - there's a checkbox that says "Don't show again." You can restore the display of this dialog box by going into Lightroom's preferences in the General tab, and choosing "Reset all warning dialogs."
here's a handy document from Victoria Bampton that explains raw rendering and camera raw version mismatch:

  • Edit from LR3.3 to CS5 no longer offer choices?

It used to be the case that I would right click on a raw file in LR3 and it would ask me to edit a virtual copy or the original raw file in CS5. For some reason it no longer asks me for this. Also, when the raw file is brought into CS5, it simply opens the file directly and does not invoke Camera Raw menu where I could tinker with the photo first, before fully bringing it into CS5. Lastly, I see from the CS5 tab that the photo is in raw format with an asterix "*" yet when I click on save to bring the changes back to LR3, it creates a TIFF.
Q: If we are working off RAW in LR3 and CS5, does CS5 not save the changes back into the XMP file? why create a TIFF file instead? Why does it not maintain everything in RAW?
Q: What happened to the Camera Raw menu and why do I no longer see it?
Q: Why does LR3 no longer offer me a choice of virtual copy, original, or photo with the changes?

Raw files are proprietary formats, and PS can not write them.  So there is no way for a file edited in PS to be saved back as a raw, not to mention the fact that if you did that, you would destroy your original.  That is against LRs definition of never making destructive edits.
Writing some changes back into an xmp file make sense, but obviously most of what PS does can not be done that way.  Saving it as a tif (or some other format, your choice) is the only way to save your edited image.
LR already does everything ACR did, so I believe they integrated it so as to remove the redundant interface.  After all, the general idea is to do as much in LR as you can, swtich to PS for bit editing and completion.
    Cheers!

  • How to Edit Web Gallery Output from CS5?

Hello!  I just upgraded from Photoshop CS3 to CS5.  (Got some scrambling to do to catch up!)  I had been using the old File>Automate>Web Photo Gallery to create galleries for my Web site.  Massaged a little in Dreamweaver MX (I know, I know...) they look something like this:
    http://www.techno-imaging.com/gal10spring/alden_b2/index.html
I found out how to add the old Web Photo Gallery back into Photoshop CS5, but was curious to find out what Bridge CS5 would do with Output>Web Gallery.  I experimented with the Standard template and was mostly happy with the result.  Here's what I got:
    http://www.techno-imaging.com/gal10spring/alden_b2_test1/index.html
Trouble is I'd like to be able to customize the output a little more than allowed within the template itself.  It looks like the output has Flash, JavaScript, XML, HTML and maybe other programming resources.  I'm fairly familiar with HTML 3 and CSS, but am not a programmer.  Can anybody recommend what high-level editing tools (example: Microsoft Word for fancy text editing) I could use to make some modest tweaks?  The default modules are fine, but I'd at least like to be able to add a link back to my main gallery page like you see at the top right of my old Web Photo Gallery pages.
Also- are there 3rd party templates for Bridge CS5 Web Gallery?
    Thanks, - Dave

    Hi i7nvd
Oh my, I missed that completely!  Thanks very much for bringing that to my attention.  In the meantime I found that ACDSee would do a Web gallery that works OK for me.  However I will go back to Bridge Output Web Gallery this afternoon and five it a whirl.  Again, many thanks for jumping in and pointing that out to me.  I appreciate it a lot!
BTW, thanks for the link to your site built with the Bridge plug-in.  And congratulations on the wedding!

  • I can't edit my photos in Photoshop CS5.

I'm not able to edit my photos from iPhoto in Photoshop CS5. I've already tried the Preferences and chosen Photoshop as my editing program. I can't even drag and drop the photos into Photoshop.  I've even tried to email them to myself. No luck. All I can do is LOOK AT them in iPhoto! Help, I'm on a deadline!

Are you able to open and edit a photo outside of iPhoto with CS5?  When you selected CS5 as the editor in iPhoto's preferences did you select the folder that holds CS5
or did you select the application:
Some have made the mistake of selecting the folder.  Be sure you haven't.
The following are tips on using Photoshop from within iPhoto:
Using Photoshop CS3 (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
(the PS screenshots are from CS3)
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's Advanced Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
s  I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS/PSE without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in iPhoto".  That will let you either edit in iPhoto using the Edit button or Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Edit in iPhoto" or in PS/PSE by Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Edit in External Editor" in the Contextual menu.
This way you get the best of both worlds.

  • Editing a CS6 document in CS5.5?

I'm an editor, and I really need to edit my graphic designer's work. She sent me a file in CS6, but I have CS5.5. Is there any way I can edit it in my program without needing to do confusing plug-in installations or upgrading to 6 (which I've found is nearly impossible to do anyway)?

Then the answer is no. The file needs to be saved down to CS5.5 or exported as IDML from CS6.

  • Checkout and editing of original files to a DIR stored in SAP content server

    Hi,
is it possible with SAP Web Documents to checkout and edit original files from a document info record that are stored in a SAP Content Server and save the changes back to the SAP Content Server?
    Kind regards
    Florian Wiedemann

    Hi,
unfortunately it's not that easy. Mobile Documents provides with NW ABAP 7.40 SP10 an API which, if you implement it, allows you to expose data from basically any ABAP system. Currently the API only provides read support, but we are already working on enabling write and versioning support also.
If you are interested there is an Expert Session next week on Wednesday the 17th which explains how to get your Data to SAP Mobile Documents.
Here are the details: SAP Mobile Documents - Webinars

  • Can I edit out original sound in a clip?

I've been using "the Missing Manual" by David Pogue and it has been fantastic at helping me edit with iMovie. One thing that doesn't seem to be addressed, however, is if the original sound track can be either eliminated or softened for a movie clip. When I put music over some clips, horrible wind sounds or other distractions still come through and I'd like to be able to eliminate that and just hear the music.

For sound editing you may like iMovie 06 better (it's built-in).
iMovie 06 is a free download to iLife 08 owners. (THEY WANT YOU TO HAVE IT!)

iMovie 06 and iDVD 08 is a terrific combination.
Much has been written about the differences between iMovie 06 and iMovie 08. I have found the below link to be helpful.

  • Editing AVCHD files in Premiere CS5 – juddery movement

    Hi all,
Just got a Panasonic HDC-TM900 camcorder – it shoots 1080p @ 50fps (PAL). The format is “.mts”, with AVCHD compression.
Anyway, the issue I have is that when I import the files into Premiere CS5 to edit (Premiere says it supports the native files) – whenever the camera moving, the movement is very jerky, and also blurry during a pan. But when I play back the clip on the camcorder itself, or directly out of it via HDMI, it’s crystal clear with perfect movement.
Firstly – I am making a composition that matches the clip settings.
Secondly - my machine is very fast & can handle the files, so it’s not a processing issue.
And thirdly, they still judder when rendered (as H.264) – so it’s not just an “un-rendered media” issue.
Any Googling I’ve done seems to bring up similar issues with editing AVCHD files, but no solid solution yet. People are saying that I should transcode the files before importing into CS5 (but with no consensus on the format or software to use), and there is also a general consensus that AVCHD is a great playback format, but not the best for editing.
And what’s also odd is that the Panasonic website seems to offer the EXACT software that would seem to fix my issue, but when I click the link it’s not there!
    See here: http://www.panasonic.com/business/provideo/avchd-home.asp
Scroll down to “Software” and it says “AVCHD to P2 DVCPRO HD Transcoder” – editing P2 files would be ideal, as I’ve done this before off a P2 camera - but when I click the link, it brings me to a page with all sorts of software & utilities, but I can’t even find the words “AVCHD” or “DVCPRO” it mentioned on that download page!
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    KP.

    Hi John - it doesn't have a 1080i setting.
Here is a link to a file I shot on this camera - I imported it into CS5, made a new sequence to match eth footage (i.e. dragged it onto the "New Item" icon) and re-encoded the AVCHD file to a H.264 "Vimeo HD" preset in CS5.
It's blurry, juddery, horrible footage during any sort of movement!
    http://www.maxtronmedia.com/grove/panasonic.mp4
Yet, on the camera's own LCD (and on a TV through the camera's HDMI output), this footage looks immaculate. And yes, I tried capturing footage through the HDMI cable into my Matrox Mini and it's interlaced all over the place & pretty-much un-usable.
    Suggestions?
I just printed an Amazon returns label, so I'm probably going to send the camera back... now I just need to hope the box is still in my green bin! :/

  • Saving edited and original photo

I know that I can revert to the original image after editing, but I want to keep and be able to see the original and the new edited image. Is this possible in iPhoto 09?
Also, I can't seem to cut a photo from one event and paste it into another event. Am I doing something wrong? I know I can drag it from one event to another, however that gets very tedious if I need to move it a long ways (drag from event to event to get it where I want).

Wait, I'm having trouble with editing my duplicated images. Part of the problem is that I want to do my red-eye reduction in Photoshop (which does a much better job than iPhoto, sadly). Here's my process:
    1. In iPhoto, right-click on desired image and choose "Duplicate."
    2. Drag duplicate photo from iPhoto window onto Photoshop icon on dock.
    3. Perform red-eye reduction in Photoshop, save (overwrite) duplicate file.
When I go back into iPhoto, the Photoshop red-eye reduction appears in the duplicated photo, as intended. However, if I attempt to make additional changes within iPhoto (for instance, adding color effects or edge blur), I lose my beloved Photoshop red-eye reduction!
I thought that when you duplicate a photo in iPhoto, it essentially creates two "originals" -- two independent files. However, my problem would suggest that the duplicate file is still linked to the true original. Is that correct? And if so, is there any way to accomplish what I'm trying to do within iPhoto, or do I have to import a second version of the photo (i.e. drag file from Finder into iPhoto) in order to trick iPhoto into thinking it's a different photo (independent file)?

  • IPhoto open with time machine - which photo is restored-edited or original?

I want to know which photo is restored when I use time machine with iPhoto open.
I understood that if you want a photo edited restored, you need to open in finder the modified folder and then use time machine. Is this the way to restore edited photos ? Because using time machine with iPhoto open I think I can only restore an original photo. Is this right ?
Can you tell me when I restore a photo (using time machine) from within iphoto when the application is open, which photo is restored ? The original or the edited ? I tried several times to restore a photo with iPhoto open and the photo that is restored comes without any rating or flag (I confirm that is backep up, I can see in iPhoto within timemachine)
What is the best way to restore photos ? For instance to restore a mail I use with Mail open. But with iPhoto is different ?
Message was edited by: Pedro Santos

I agree that someone should know the exact answer. I would assume the following happens. If you go back in time and select a picture from time machine by selecting the image from within an album, that you would get that image with any changes. When it comes back to iPhoto that the image you selected would be added to the library as is— that is to say, an edited version only. On the other hand, selecting to restore the library as you may do if restoring your entire picture collection, or library, or even in the case of an entire system restore using migration would bring the original image back in. I've not heard of any limitations with selecting from the modifies.
However, I am not entirely sure and have not restored enough from TM for anything to know the ins and outs and do's and don't completely.
One thing you could do that may answer your question would be to take an image and really edit it, back it up to TM, remove it from iPhoto and then go back and restore it and find out exactly what you get back. You could do this on a duplicate image. Report back on your findings.
This is all that I can come up with.

  • Photos synced with iPhoto (through iTunes) ignore edits (syncs original)

Not sure if this should go here, or in the iPhoto forum...
I edited a batch of photos in iPhoto and put them in an Album. I setup iTunes to sync that Album with my iPhone. All the photos now appear on the phone, however the images on the phone are the "original" photos, not the edited versions that appear in the Album when viewing in iPhoto.
So, the photos in the iPhoto Album are not the photos that get synched to my iPhone.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Editing Camtasia AVI files in CS5?

    Greetings,
Previousely I have had no problems editing Techsmith Camtasia Studio files in Adobe Premiere CS4 and previous. However, with CS5 I do not see the TSCC (Techsmith Screen Capture Codec) on the list of Codecs that can be worked with even though it is installed. Maybe something to do with 64bit?
My workflow is that I would rough edit the captured video in Camtasia Studio, export it as an AVI file using the TSCC losless codec.
I would then create a new project in Premiere and choose a custom editing mode from the General Tab and choose Techsmith as the editing mode. Choose the frame rate, frame size, square pixels, progressive etc.
Now with CS5, Techsmith does not even show up as an option, only desktop editing mode.
If I use desktop as the setting and I import my AVI file, I only get the audio and not the video, so it seems like Premiere can't see the codec.
Any suggestions on how to get this to work as I prefer to work in Premiere's edit mode.
    Thanks!
