Edit in Photo Shop CS5 option bosx is missing in action?

Hi.  When in LR 4  selecting "Edit inPhoto Shop CS5" for an image I no longer get the edit option box to choose "Edit a Copy with Lightroom Settings" . This seems to have vanished in LR4. I would like to re-enable this option. Right now I get a original file in PS/CS5 without the ability to select some other option. Please tell me what I am missing. Thanks.
Allbert

It's actually a pain as ACR 6.7 is not 100% compatible with LR4.1RC2. ACR6.7 (final) ignores the new defringing adjustments. It would make more sense to me if LR gave the option to "Edit a Copy with Lightroom Settings" so that I could open those images I have used defringing on using LR.
The workaround is to set up an export preset to export a tiff with LR adjustments that will be included in the catalogue , and then edit the tiff in PS; an extra step but not too painful.

  • Unable to launch photo shop cs5.1

I have tried to launch my photo shop CS5.1 with no success.  Message stated that I had to uninstall it and then reinstall it  but
first had to download Java SE6.   I installed Java for OX 2014-001 which it says supersedes  all previous versions of Java
Went back to PS suite.  there is now a box on website  which includes icons of all PS suite. Also an icon that says
UNINSTALL.  Right next to it there is an icon box  with an arrow. Guess that means to reinstall PS.
I then went into Photoshop.com. adobe and read the complaint blogs. There are many that relate to this situation
One says:  "An unexpected  and unrecoverable problem has occurred. Photoshop will now exit. "
There are several comments similar to this.

  • After we edited a photo in cs5 we can not reopen it now?

we edited a photo in photoshop cs5, saved it as a jpeg into a folder and now, when we go to open it...it tells us "could not complete your request because the JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete).
    what can we do?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
As MadisonJ asked, how are you doing this editing and how does it relate to iPhoto? If you're using PS from within iPhoto as the editor of choice the following may be of some interest:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

  • Is there a way to keep images as RAW files when editing with Photo Shop ???

The drawback I find with aperture is that when using photoshop as editor I cannot keep my raw files. They are converted to TIFFS...Is there a way that I can keep them in Raw????? Thanks!!

Your original RAW files are still there in your Aperture library in your pictures folder. Or on an external hard drive if you are referencing them.... They are never touched, you are editing a 'version' of your original RAW file.
When you export to PS Aperture creates a new 'version' of the original and exports that to PS. The file format that it returns to Aperture as, from PS, is controlled by you in Aperture preferences... > Export Tab > External Editor file format....
You can have your pictures in the format you choose. But your original RAW's are untouched.
    Regards..... Gerry..

  • Shopping Cart TabStrip is MIA (missing in action)!

The shopping cart tabs have all disappeared and I cannot find the control to bring them back!!
    Details
When you logon to the SRM portal and go to the Shopping Cart (Employee Self-Services tab) you are shown two icons:  Shopping Cart and Advanced Search.  Under those two icons is a tab-strip with five tabs:  1) Shopping Carts; 2) Confirmations; 3) Invoices/Credit Memos; 4) Team Carts; and 5) Confirmations for Team Carts.  If you right-click on any one of the tabs the context menu that appears has three options:  1) User Settings; 2) Display Quick Help; and 3) More Field Help.  Upon clicking on the User Settings option you have two more options:  1) Hide <current> tab or 2) More Settings.  Under the More option it brings up the complete tabstrip control window allowing you to add or remove any of the five tabs. However, there is also a link to "Hide Tabstrip Control."  If you click this "link" it actually removes all of the tabs and you can no longer access anything.
I have deleted the UserID and recreated the UserID and the tabs remain hidden.
    Please help!!

Michael, thanks for your idea.  I have tried that but right clicking on all other objects on the same page only shows the IE context menu (see below).  I can actually still see varied screen shading (darker blue on a light blue background) where the tab strip was located.  But if I click on another link, e.g. Advanced Search, and then right click on one of the fields on the subsequent form I do find a User Settings option.  However, upon selecting the the "more" option it opens a new window that looks similar to the one for the tabstrip but it is specific to the field I right-clicked on located on the subsequent Advanced Search form.  Each of these right-clicks will allow me to "hide" the button or field that was right-clicked on.  I dare not do this as these fields will most definitely be "lost" to me as well.  thanks for any help you can offer.

  • Editing 1 photo multiple times.

I am having a hard time when I open a photo to edit more then one time. Exp. I edit a copy in color in lightroom 3, then I edit with Photo Shop CS5 (copy with lightroom settings). Once I edit in Photo Shop and Save As I can no longer go back into Lightroom 3 and edit that pictures. I would like to take one photo and create different looks (black/White, Sepia and so on)..this is getting very fustrating at this point. I can'e even open my Raw(NEF) files either.
Any advise would be really appreciated.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum!
Okay, so... first, the relationship between LR and PS:  LR handles everything virtually; that is, instead of actually modifying the original file, it makes changes and saves the work it did as a history step.  So every time you modify it, it repeats those steps to create the image you are looking at.  PS on the other hand, does make changes to the original.  So once you write it out (unless you are using lots of layers and making huge files) you can't go back and edit it.  This is the power of LR, that everything is done on the fly to make the image you are viewing.
So it's only one step from there to having multiple sets of steps;  that's what a "Virtual Copy" is.  It's just another entry into the database that points at the same original image;  thus,  you don't need to have 5 images taking up 5 times the space of one image when you want to try 5 different views of the same image.
Once  you pass off your image to PS, however, it will make a NEW image when you save it.  Since it is a new image, it should be obvious that editing the original will have no effect on this image.  LR will always allow you to edit your original, but it will NOT pass along changes to any image created from that original and saved into a new image;  it treats them as completely seperate images.
If you have import result back into LR checked, then your image edited in PS will automatically show up with your original image.  If you have stacking turned on, then your original image will be "stacked" with your new one, so if you can't see your original anymore, try expanding stacks, and see if it's "hidden" behind the other one.
    Cheers!

  • PHOTO SHOP ELEMENTS 5.0

    I AM UN ABLE TO
USE ANY EDIT (QUICK FIX AND/OR FULL EDIT) IN
PHOTO SHOP EELEMENTS 5.0   CAN ANYONE HELP?

Did you try importing your Elements catalog into Lightroom, and just using Lightroom? If you want to experiment to see how well it works, you can create a new blank LR catalog and use that.
LR's tools work well on . jpegs too, I don't want to lose that, so I don't even use Elements organizer function any more. I prefer the intuitiveness of the tagging & doing AND searches in Elements... LR's not quite up to snuff with Elements in that regard, IMO. More powerful, but seriously lacking some simple useability improvements.
Even so, I basicly sucked it up and went all LR even though those tagging problems ARE a major concern. I don't want to lock myself out of those editing tools in LR. And I prefer one catalog with ALL my images over trying to remember which were .jpg or RAW. But I'll keep complaining about pointing these usability issues with LR and urging development in these matters until maybe someone on the LR team actually hears me.

  • Help with photo shop album, reg version not starter version

I have the regular version of Photo Shop album, not the starter version.  I recently purchased a new camera.  It is 18 megipixels.  I was trying to edit the picture, to take the red eye out, and got an error message saying that the picture was too big to edit in Photo Shop album.  Will this program not work with pictures that large?
    Thanks,

I would imagine that some of the free image editors available today would be more powerful than PSE v1.

  • I can't edit my photos in Photoshop CS5.

I'm not able to edit my photos from iPhoto in Photoshop CS5. I've already tried the Preferences and chosen Photoshop as my editing program. I can't even drag and drop the photos into Photoshop.  I've even tried to email them to myself. No luck. All I can do is LOOK AT them in iPhoto! Help, I'm on a deadline!

Are you able to open and edit a photo outside of iPhoto with CS5?  When you selected CS5 as the editor in iPhoto's preferences did you select the folder that holds CS5
or did you select the application:
Some have made the mistake of selecting the folder.  Be sure you haven't.
The following are tips on using Photoshop from within iPhoto:
Using Photoshop CS3 (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
(the PS screenshots are from CS3)
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's Advanced Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
s  I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS/PSE without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in iPhoto".  That will let you either edit in iPhoto using the Edit button or Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Edit in iPhoto" or in PS/PSE by Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Edit in External Editor" in the Contextual menu.
This way you get the best of both worlds.

  • I can't edit a photo in a legacy version of ps in the new lightroom i only have the option for cc2014 either from photo on the menu bar and or a right click on the mouse. i see no settings in preferences to address this issueo

why can't i edit a photo in the new version of lightroom in a legacy version of PS. i can only open it in CC2014. i saw no options in the preferences panel to fix choose what version i want to edit in.

    @ssprengel
The question was about editing in PS from Lightroom.
    @joiseau3
The "Edit in... (PS)" command in Lightroom automatically defaults to the most recent version of PS installed on your system (CC 2014 in your case). But nothing prevents you from adding a new "Edit in..." command for PS CC as for any other "plugin" :
    1. Edit | Preferences | External Editing | Additional External Editor section
    2. Choose application : the PS CC executable
    3. Set your export preferences
    4. Preset dropdown : Save current settings as new preset... and name it PS CC.
Now you have an Edit in PS CC command as well as an Edit in PS CC 2014 command.

    Many thanks Pitt.

For that Nikon model you need ACR 8.3 that means CS6 or CC.  Or you can download the DNG converter convert your Nikon RAW files to Adobe RAW files. And then process the Adobe RAW files with CS5 ACR version  6.7
