Edit in Photoshop Fixed in 2.1--Well not really!

Just downloaded the 2.1 update and tried out one of my major annoyances which was the edit in Photoshop bug which would not automatically add the file back into Lightroom. Now when I do it, seems to edit the photo, then save it back to Lightroom. Only problem now is color lables. When I edit, I assign color labels for B&W, Tweak, Standard. Yellow is for B&W, Green is for Tweaks, and Blue is standard edits. If I choose to edit a photo that has a yellow label in photoshop, it adds it back to lightroom with no color label. I then need to stop filtering by color label, find the edited file, assign it my yellow color label, and then go back to filtering my images in order to stack it with the original. Whew, too much work. Any body have any ideas?
Thanks,
Toby

Toby I could be wrong and if I am someone I am sure will point it out.
I thought that when you edited an image in Photoshop that you weren't
actually editing the original image file, but a copy. If that is the case
the image you save after editing in Photoshop is a totally different file
(someplace on your system) and being that wouldn't have the color code
assigned because it isn't that image any more.
Right or wrong what I would like to see adding is that when you edit an
image or take it to another program or whatever for whatever reason (HDR,
Pano, etc.) when it came back in to LR it was automatically added to a new
collection called edited. This would be a LR only collection that the user
couldn't add to other than to edit a photo in photoshop, make a panorama,
etc. This way you could easily find, move, keyword, etc. images that you
just stitched, made in to an HDR or edited in photoshop. This would save you
from having to search the library for them.

  • Question about externally editing in Photoshop then saving but the files not showing up in catalog

When I am in Lightroom and I choose edit in Photoshop then I save the file, I would like the file to automatically show up in my Lightroom catalog.  It shows up if I save as a tiff like I set up in my preferences, but not if I save as a jpeg.  I would like for the jpegs to also show up in the catalog.  Is this possible?
    Thanks,
    Jennifer

I found that if I do a <save> in Photoshop first (which saves a tiff or psd file, depending on the setting in Preferences), and THEN a <save as> to save as jpg, both files are automatically added to the catalog.
I do agree that if I just do a <save as>, without doing a <save> first, the <save as> file is not added to the catalog.
My workflow is good for me, because after developing a photo in LR, I then do further editing in PS, and then save the edited file as a tiff (or psd) at full pixel dimensions, with the edit layers. The next step is, if I need a jpg of that photo (for web or email), I flatten the file, reduce image size, convert to sRGB, etc., then save as a jpg. This way, I have the three files I always make/keep, and all three files end up in the LR catalog.
I agree that I could use the Export function in LR to generate the jpg instead, but 1) I'm too used to doing it right there in PS while I have the file open and 2) I can use all the tools in PS to do tweaks that the photo may need when converted to jpg.

  • I get every time after rendering four black bars around the video, I would like to fix this because it is not really professional.

sorry for my poor english, I have a problem with adobe premiere elements 12 when I render I get a video black bars on all sides of the screen, which makes the video smaller. How do I fix this?

    Bram Bakker
Are you OK with translating the language English to Dutch? Have you been using the Translate button at the bottom right of the posts to translate what is written in English to Nederlands (Dutch)? Is the major problem that you cannot find the locations that I point to in Premiere Elements?
    1. What are the properties of the video that you are putting on the Timeline? The quick way to find this
information is knowing brand/model/settings of the camera that recorded the video on the Timeline.
From this question I am trying to find out what the properties are for your video - video compression, audio compression, frame size, interlaced or progressive, file extension, pixel aspect ratio. I was hoping that you could tell me the brand/model/settings of the camera recording the video so that I could find the information myself.
    2. What are you setting (manually) or the project (automatically) as the project preset that will match
the properties of the video that you are importing? If you do not know, then tell us what you see under
Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readouts for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel
Aspect Ratio, even if the fields look grayed out.
Besides knowing the properties of your video, it is just as important to know the project settings. Are you setting them yourself or just dragging the video to the Timeline and letting the project set the project preset automatically? If you are doing nothing, then the answer is that the project is doing the setting automatically.
Either way, you can find out what is being set by going to Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and looking for the reading that you see in the following screenshot.
    3. The next big question is "What do you mean by rendering?"
Do you see these black borders after you render the Timeline content in the Edit area to get the best
possible preview of what you are seeing in the Edit area monitor?
    or
Do you see these black borders after you go to Publish+Share/ and export the Timeline video?
If your "rendering" refers to the export of the Timeline, please tell us Publish+Share/and then what?
This question 3 should not need a screenshot. The question is where are you seeing the black border in your video.
    a. When you are in the Edit Area of the program and you press the Enter key of the computer main keyboard or the Render
    button above the Timeline.
    or
    b. After you have exported your Timeline using Publish+Share/ and one of the export paths.
Please see if any of the above helps. If it does not, then let us try this. In Dutch if you want, describe in your own words
what you are doing in much more detail and post screenshots of the areas involved on your Premiere Elements 12.
Then I will deal with interpreting what you wrote.
We want you to succeed. So whatever way works, that is the way to go.
The answers are in the details.
    Thank you.

  • Help or I'm going PC!!!  ( well not really )

Hello everyone, Well I've been reading long enough that my eyes are burning and I'm still not sure what to do, but I've found out a lot that i did wrong.
This is what I have; Power mac G4 AGP graphics, model p.m.3.1, power pc g4 2.8, 450 mhz, 1mb, 1gb, bus speed 100mhz, serial #SG9532N2HPO. That I got off ebay (after i said i would never do again after the G3) It came preloaded with 10.4 NO DISK! It wont read most cd's or eject them, It freezes faster than I can click save and I reset or power down faster than i can open programs. I can't open any of the dashboard controls (disk utilities, etc.) I tried to down load updates but error broken pipe came up? I'm ready to do a fresh install and need advice. I have the system software for my old power mac 7200 threw 9500, OS 8.5 (not the original that came with G4) OS 9.2.1 cd and 9.2.2 update that i saved on disk, 10.2 replacement cd from apple, and retail version of osx 10.3. I will be using Photo shop, Illustrator 7 & 10, old school type styler. etc so i need os 9 and OSX. But with no 10.4 disk will i lose 10.4 should i upgrade later when i have the money? what firmware update do i need. What order and how should I install, also this mac is not online at the moment. If any one could help you would be doing more than you know.
    thanks.

You might be able to check if your computer even needs its firmware updated. I'm using Tiger right now so I can't check this from OS9 but in Tiger in System Profiler (which is also available for OS9) you can get the Boot ROM firmware version in the general hardware information. You could check that against what the firmware updater would install. I'd imagine System Profiler might be on the OS9 installer CD so all you'd need to do would be boot from the CD and check. The reason for installing OS9 is so you can update the firmware, or if you want to run Classic or OS9 natively.
OS9 doesn't have permissions as such, and certainly not in Drive Setup or Disk First Aid, so you can't repair its permissions -- that's all OSX stuff.
If you want to partition the drive I would do that while booted to OSX, though you could do it using Drive Setup while booted to the OS9 CD. The only thing is the drivers on the CD may be old and you'd need to update those too. Of course partitioning after installing OS9 will erase any OS9 you have put on there, so you may actually end up having to install it twice if you have to do it a first time for the firmware update and if eventually want it on the drive. Select HFS+. I kind of skipped the Panther generation so I may be a bit off in some advice. With Tiger you should format the OSX boot partition to HFS+ journaled. For both partitions I'd go ahead and install the OS9 drivers so if for some reason you booted to OS9 you could see both partitions.
Install OSX. Repairing permissions regularly is good. Do updates. You can re-install OS9 too if you have/need to; I believe you have to actually be booted in OS9 to run the OS9 installer.
So things a stage at a time and check everything works at each stage so if you have problems you can narrow it down.

  • Slow folder browsing on VPN vs Window (AFPvsSMB-well not really)

Wondering if there is anyway to speed up any Macs that are browsing across a VPN.  Well the issue is not the VPN per say but more the way apple browses network directories.
I have a 10.6.8 server that shares a directory structure for my organization.  In house computers have no problems with speed, as they are on the local lan.  Now throw VPN into the scenario.
I understand fully that connection accross the VPN will depend on many factors, one of which being the service provider etc...
If I take a Mac (iMac 2010 running 10.6.8) and connect to the AFP OR SMB share, it seems to take forever to browse the directory structure just to get to the file the end user wants.
Same office and same VPN, browse the shared drive on a windows XP machine, and directory browsing is lightning fast.
It also seems the the opening (which I never recommend to my users) or copying of a file seems to take approx. the same amount of time, whether in mac or windows, it is the "getting to the file" that takes forever.
On the mac side, it is barely faster to connect over SMB, however still nothing close to as fast as the windows machine.  Does this seem normal?  and is there anything I can do for my Mac counter parts to speed up this process?
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Please let me know what additional information you need.
Server is hosting SMD, AFP, iCAL, iCHAT, AddressBook, DNS, WEB on XServe running 10.6.8.

Apple has always seemed to give poor performance for remote users compared to an equivalent Windows setup running over the same remote link. I think this is a combination of several things.
Firstly, the Finder on a Mac gets a lot more information to display a directory listing than Windows Explorer on Windows does. The Finder is of course getting the same file/folder names but in addition can get Finder comments, labels (colours), custom icons, etc. which Windows Explorer would not.
Secondly, I am convinced that AFP is not as efficient over slow links and/or high latency links as SMB.
Thirdly, I am also convinced that the Finder is grotesquely inefficient in sending and processing commands and replies, whereas perhaps Windows batches things up. As an ancient example of this anyone else remember the floppy disk shuffle on the original Macs?
I suspect because Apple have a very fast pipe to the Internet they have not appreciated how bad this can be. They need perhaps to consider getting a WAN link simulator and then they can see the problem and hopefully introduce more optimisation.
Unfortunately there is not much you can do about any of these things, you could try using SMB on the Mac rather than AFP as this might cause the Finder to not try getting some of the extra information like colour labels. Avoiding using the Finder if possible is the best option, you could help achieve this by keeping shortcuts to files on the Server so you don't have to keep browsing to the folder itself.

  • Hiding Photos - well not really.

Seems to me that the essential purpose of "hiding photos" is confused by how iPhoto is doing this - unless of course, I am misunderstanding something.
    Can someone please clarify.
If I want a few photographs to not appear in my general iPhoto library, how do I place these elsewhere - say a new folder - without the current sign in the upper right hand corner announcing, "6 more hidden" - which essentially defeats the very purpose; instead of hiding them, these pictures are now front and center announced as being hidden! Can one place photos in a separate folder for example, while deleting them from the main library? (When I try this, the pictures get deleted both from the new folder and the main library.)
Curious what others are doing with this.
    Thanks,
    John.

The only way to completely hide and protect photos for others who have access to your computer is to put them in their own separate library and put that library in a password protected disk image file.
Or, create a separate user account for the others and password protect your account. Let them create and user their own library in their own account.

  • Install complete, well, not really. :-(

I'm brand new with ColdFusion. I have a vague idea of what a
web server is. I'm basically a Dreamweaver user who maintains my
own business website and I want to add some interactivity. So I'm
doing tutorials on lynda.com and ColdFusion looks like a good way
to get where I want to go. But perhaps I've bitten off more than I
    can chew?
I installed the coldfusion-702-win.exe file into the default
directory, c:\CFusionMX7. I chose all of the defaults, including
    c:\inetpub\wwwroot
At what purports to be the end of the installation, I get a
strange dialog boxup reading, "You have succesfully completed the
first step in installing Macromedia ColdFusion MX7
However, the web server connectors did not install
sucessfully. One possible reason is that port 51011 is blocked.
Please complete the folowing steps to complete the
    instalation:
    1) Consult the installation guide on how to manually
    configure the web server connector,
    2) Ensure any firewall software blocking port 51011 is
    disabled,
    3) Ensure the ColdFusion service is started,
    4) Manually configure your web server connectors,
And the rest just disappeared so I can't finish typing it
out! The text couldn't be copied and pasted. Oh joy.
I can't find an installation guide, either in my CF
installation, or anywhere on the adobe website. The Windows
firewall is turned off. I have a hardware firewall for my network,
a Sonicwall that is also the router.
I can't find any reference to port 51011 on my computer. I've
Googled this and find plenty of references but unfortunately I just
don't understand all of this tech talk.
Is there a book or tutorial somewhere that explains all of
this for a non programmer? I use Dreamweaver so I don't have to
deal directly with XHTML any more than absolutely necessary. I
should perhaps hire somebody to do my website for me but for the
most part I enjoy doing it. I just need things spelled out very
clearly. The lynda.com tutorial doesn't go into this. It's for
ColdFusion MX, and a few references to this port 51011 issue
    suggest it's related to MX7.
Is it just a bug with MX7?
    Thanks,
    Peter Jon White

Is this true? Is this reply a direct response to the problem
I described? Or is it a canned, "out of the box" reply? I ask
because after posting my message I tried installing ColdFusion on
another computer, which is running exactly the same antivirus
software (System Suite), and ColdFusion installed correctly.
As I wrote, the only firewall is a hardware firewall. What is
port 51011? And what does it have to do with antivirus software?
Why does the Adobe website make no mention of disabling antivirus
software when installing CF? If it's imperative that antivirus
software be turned off, why did CF install correctly on the second
    computer?

  • "Edit in Photoshop Elements" does not appear as option in Lightroom 4.3

    After viewing this artical:
http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/edit-photoshop-command-missing-photoshop.html  and completing all options related to the Mac, the "Edit in Photoshop..." still does not appear as a clckable option in my Lightroom 4.3 program which has all the current updates.  Also, my Photoshop Elements 11 program also has all the current updates.
Please note that in the interest of time, that all of the "solutions" were attempted in the above mentioned link
Also, was on hold with Adobe Lightroom help phone support for over 1.5 hours without any agent answeing the phone.  Also Adobe automatied phone support states that Photoshop Elements is not supported free of charge and it is fee based.  How is a consumer suppose to have a problem corrected in Lightroom that stems from Elements when it is suppose to intergrate that way between the two programs but any help to try to correct the way it is suppose to work will cost you an addition fee in phone support for Elements?
And help on fixing this issue will be apprecitated.
    Lightroom v 4.3 / Camera RAW v 7.3
    Elements v 11.0 / Camera RAW v 7.3.0.71

Did this with Adobe support in LIVE CHAT, what a waist of time.  Although this will correct the issue, it is like a work around and not solving why EDIT IN PHOTOSHOP... is not a clickable option (greyed out) in LR.
After the configure as suggested above, does this preclude and editing in Lighroom?
What I want to do is:
Edit the photo in LR except for:
the useage the great Spot Healing Brush Tool that PSE offers, edit that part of it in PSE then SAVE the results back to LR.  Any problems or suggestions for this?
    Thanks so much

  • Problem with filters not finding an image in LR 4.0 after being edited in Photoshop CS6 beta

I am running Lightroom 4.0 on a Win7 Professional 64-bit system. I have come up with a strange problem I can describe but don't know how it can more generally be duplicated, unless this is a Photoshop CS6 beta bug.
I am looking through in Library module at a shoot. When I filter by a keyword that some of the pictures have, a recently edited image does not show up. Here is what I mean; let X=IMG_6260:
    1) For X.CR2, edit in Photoshop CS5. All works well - X-ed.tif gets created and added to my LR previous import set.
    2) Clicking on X-ed.tif, edit in Photoshop CS6 beta. All seems fine - X-ed-2.tif gets created and added to my LR previous import set.
    3) The keywords on all three images - the original and the two edits - are the same. I can confirm that by, in grid view, selecting these three and noting no asterisks in the composite keyword view. One of the keywords is the person's name - let's say it is "Sara".
    4) Now, when I click in the keyword list on "Sara", all images in this most recently imported set show up with her *except* X-ed-2.tif - the one created by CS6 beta.
Strange! Should this be reported in a CS6 forum? Thanks.

Yep, it returns nothing. Debug output seems to be largely irrelevant except this oddity:

Lightroom 5 file edited in photoshop cc 2014 does not appear back next to original after save. Is anyone else having this issue? If so what is the fix.  The edited image appears back in lightroom in a new folder.

I'm performing a normal "Save", not "Save As". Work flow I'm using is as follows:  Select photo in Lightroom 5.7 >" Edit In" Photoshop CC 2014 > (after working on photo is PS) > Save > close PS. Photo returns to Lightroom 5.7 in a new folder rather than next to the original. Prior to purchasing the monthly plan and upgrading to PS CC 2014, I performed this same work flow using Lightroom 5.6 and Photoshop CS6 without any issues.
Just for fun... I attempted to move the edited file back into the original folder. I received a prompt that said the file already existed in the original folder, however I can't see it except the new folder that LR created. I tried several different sort orders, etc without any success.
*** Follow up: Was unable to resolve the issue using Photoshop CC 2014. Uninstalled PS CC 2014 and went back to using Photoshop CS6. Return trips from LR 5.7 to Photoshop is now performing as it should: returning edited photo back to the original folder in LR 5 and placing next to the original image.
Should anyone have a suggestion on getting Photoshop CC 2014 to do the same, I would love to be educated.
    Thanks for the help, dj_paige.

  • I have a sudden export to plug-in problem as well as a Photo-Edit-in-Photoshop Error

I just changed Macs and migrated all of my old data to the new iMac (running OS X 10.9.2). Applications and files. I keep all my photo files on external Iomega drives, however. I plugged those back in and Lightroom 5.2 recognizes them. I can work with them, edit, etc within Lightroom. No problems.
But I can't seem to export them to some of the plug-ins now or Photo-Edit in-Photoshop. For example, I tried to export out via (File-Plug-in Extras-Perfect Effects 8) and get this message: "AgNegative:renderToFile: <AgErrorID>dng_error_write_file</AgErrorID>"
Another example: Trying to edit the photo via (Photo-Edit in-Adobe Photoshop Elements) gives me this message: "Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at /Volumes/Photos-Videos /Pictures/2000/2000 Dean Scan 6.jpeg for editing. It will not be opened."
I've tried exporting Raw and jpgs and tiffs and get the same errors. It will, oddly enough, allow me to export to Photomatix Pro.
    Any ideas? I'm stumped.
    Thanks!

That would be great as tested further with a few files as not only have external drive backup I also use Backblaze remote service and just requested a few test files to be returned for uploading, which both worked fine.
It's seems to be the hard drive it's not recognising PS and LR CC
Will keep in touch if have any further thoughts

If I'm in LIghtroom 5, and try to Edit in Photoshop CS6, I always get the following message: "This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 8.6 for full compatibility." But I have updated to 8.6 and have no remaining updates. How can I fix this?
If I click "Open Anyway" or "Render using Lightroom", I get the following message:
"Adobe Photoshop CS6 cannot be opened because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure Adobe Photoshop CS6 works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X."
Please tell me what to do so I can edit from Lightroom to Photoshop.

In Photoshop, if you choose Help - About Plug-in... - Camera Raw, does it say 8.6?
Seems to me there was some hiccup they found in the update process, which prompted this:
Camera Raw updates cannot be applied
I honestly don't know if the problem could apply to 8.6 as well, which is why I asked you to check to make very sure you really got it.

  • Can't "Edit in Photoshop CS6" in Lightroom 4.1, after upgrading Photoshop from CS4

I recently installed Creative Suite 6 Production Premium, and uninstalled Photoshop CS4, but Lightroom seems to be confused and doesn't show "Edit in Photoshop CS6" as an option.
Lightroom seems to be aware that Photoshop CS4 is no longer installed: the first command under "Edit In" is "Edit in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64 Bit)\Photoshop...", and all the Photoshop-specific "edit in" commands (smart object, layers, etc.) are unavailable.  I tried adding Photoshop CS6 as a secondary editor, but this makes Lightroom export a TIFF to PS rather than opening the file in Camera Raw.
I'm not sure what I have to do to convince Lightroom that I have Photoshop CS6 installed.  Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Well, I had searched the forums before and couldn't locate an answer, but ended up finding an answer through the "more like this" links at the right.  The CS4 path was stored in the Windows registry; I had to update it to CS6 and it's now working perfectly.
Just in case anyone else comes across this problem, here's the forum post:

  • "Edit in Photoshop" not working after 3.3 update...

It seems as though after updating to version 3.3, my "edit in photoshop" functionality has stopped working.  When I choose this option, Photoshop will open, but Lightroom does not bring up a dialog for exporting the photo, nor do I see a progress bar in lightroom for exporting of the photo as I used to.
I can (and have) create a user preset for exporting to accomplish the same functionality, but has anyone else experienced this problem?  is there a quick fix?

Sorry, I did not get it before that PS opens but no image.
Well, LR 3.3 and CS3 are not fully compatible indofar as CS3 cannot open a RAW image that has been rendered with the new ACR of LR3.
It was still possible under LR 3.2 - I've done it nuemerous times, but was told on this forum that this was only due to a "bug" that had been "fixed" in LR 3.3.
I now have CS5 but still have CS3 installed.
When I try to open a RAW image from LR 3.3 with CS3 all what happens is that LR renders a TIFF (my specification for Additional External Editor) but CS3 does not open.
So, maybe you have to bite the bullet and upgrade to CS5.
Or, export your Raw Image as a psd and then open it from CS3.
