Edit in Photoshop Option

In the Edit>Preferences>External Editors tab, the primary external editor (photoshop) says Edit in Photoshop (not found). I do have Photoshop CS installed but wonder why it says (not found).
To work around, I have defined a second editor to be Photoshop.exe.
Anyone else have this problem? Is there a fix?

This has been covered several times and is in the FAQ.
Basically it means an edit to the registry.
I've done the same as you Scott and used the secondary editor for PS.

Edit in Photoshop option grayed out ?

Hello,
Just upgraded from Lightroom V4.4 to V5. After this upgrade I find that I can no longer select the option "Edit in Photoshop", the option is grayed out and is not selectable.
I have Photoshop CS6 currently installed and don't have plans to upgrade to Photoshop CC (out of my price range).
Anyone know if Lightroom V5 only interfaces with Photoshop CC now?

I suggest that you try reinstalling either Lightroom or Photoshop, or even both. I have both Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 5 installed on my computer and Lightroom and Photoshop work together as expected. Lightroom 5 does NOT just interface with Photoshop CC. It will interface with any version that you have installed.

New Edit in Photoshop option: copy as psd withouth adjustments

This feature would be a 4th option in the "edit in photoshop" context menu. It creates a photoshop file with the unmodified image data (before any adjustments in lightroom) but as a psd file in 16 bit depth and with the specified colourspace (usually prophoto). The user edits the image in photoshop and saves it. Lightroom copies the adjustments from the source photo and pastes them, as adjustable lightroom adjustments, onto this edited psd file.
This workflow makes sense mostly for jpegs (as raw files always have to be developed in some form when you open them in photoshop). I often need to retouch a couple of fotos from a large collection. When I edit them with lightroom adjustments, I loose the possibility to easily change the colour tone etc in lightroom (of course I can make changes in lightroom but the sliders are reset to 0 because lightroom treats this as an entirely new image). It would be better if I could edit the original image data in photoshop and have lightroom apply the adjustments as metadata, not burn them into the psd file before opening. From an image quality point of view it is often better to do all compositions, retouching etc on the original data, then colour grade them later so that the changes "blend in better" (this is the default way to do it in motion picture film compositing). I would appreciate it if lightroom would offer me this workflow option.

I think you misunderstood the use-case I am talking about. I perfectly understand that this doesn't make sense for raw pictures. It does, however make a great deal of sense for jpegs.
I am not asking photoshop to become a parametric editor or Lightroom to become a pixel editor. What I want is for lightroom to do what it does best (non destructive editing) and photoshop what it does best (powerfull destructive editing) but without having to "chain" these steps together in a given ordern (develop jpeg in lightroom -> send it to photoshop, all non-destructive edits are burned into the new psd file -> edit in in photoshop -> send it back to lightroom, the non-destructive edits of lightrooms are burned into the pixels and cannot be changed anymore (if I had made the image warmer I don't see this in lightroom anymore because the sliders are reset to 0).
What I propose is merely for lightroom to be able to send unmodified jpegs to photoshop and apply the non-destructive edits to the copy. This way, I can do my compositing / editing in photoshop on the original pixels, then keep playing around with the sliders in lightroom.
This is a bit hard to explain just with text, I hope I could make my point clear. Also, the current option of "Edit a copy, without lightroom adjustments" is nice, but only halfway there for two reasons: First, it doens'nt automatically copy the non-destructive edits made to the original image to the new copy, and second, for jpegs, in this case I want a psd file to be created not a jpeg as is currently the chase. Why? Because I will be working with layers in my edit and if I want to be able to save the file and have lightroom notice it. However, if the file in question is a jpeg, I can't save my composite to this file format without loosing my layers, so I have to change the fil format to psd but that changes the filename that lightroom was keeping track of so now I have to rescan the folder in lightroom which is quite annoying form a workflow point of view.
Please let me know if I can explain anything in better detail. I really do think that for a jpeg based workflow this option would make a great deal of sense.

"Edit in Photoshop" option is ghosted?

I own LR 1.1 and Photoshop CS3 and have both installed and working fine on the same laptop. In LightRoom I tried editing a photo in Photoshop but no matter what I try that option is always ghosted in the Photo pull down menu in LightRoom and is not selectable.

That is exactly what I have done and the option remains ghosted. I have tried it with numerous images in my library (including different file formats, although most of my images are JPG). I have tried it with LR 1.0 and 1.1. I have also tried launching PS CS3 (just in case it needs to be running). I also took a look in "Edit/Preferences/External Editing" but nothing in there seemed related to my problem. One thing I do notice in CS3 is that although I have registered my product when I first got it I still get a reminder to register (but PS CS3 always works fine).
Any more ideas?
ps. I notice that LR 1.1 took away the main preset I liked most (Light Tone Curve Default). I was surprised to see that gone. General Punch does seem to do as good a job...

Edit With Photoshop Menu Option

It would be nice if you could change the default editor. I only use PSE for the organizer and user the regular Photoshop to edit the photos. As an alternative, it would be nice if I could right click on a photo and choose a "Edit With Photoshop" option. I know I can do this within the Edit menu bar, but it would be more direct if I could right click on a photo and be able to choose my editing software.

'Edit in Photoshop' not working with RAW photos

I'm not sure when this started happening, but right now I can't open DNG or CR2 files (but JPEGs work fine) in photoshop either via the 'Edit in Photoshop' option, or the 'Merge to Panorama/HDR Pro in Photoshop' option. All it does is open the Photoshop application, but doesn't actually open the files I selected within Photoshop. I was able to add Photoshop CS5 in the 'Additional External Editor' section in the pref. pane which allowed me to open the RAW files in photoshop, but the Panorama and HDR Pro options still don't work. I tried reinstalling Photoshop, updated Camera Raw (and the rest of Adobe's products I have installed) to the latest version, reinstalling Lightroom 3.0, upgrading again back to 3.2, deleting the plist files in ~/Library/Preferences/ for both Lightroom and Photoshop, nothings worked. I'm running on a Mac so the registry hacks I've seen while googling aren't going to fix this issue. Has anyone else had this issue?

Edit in Photoshop - Photoshop opens the file doesn't load

I'm using Photoshop Elements 7 and Photoshop CS4. Previously when I chose the Edit in Photoshop option from PSE7 Photoshop CS4 would launch and the selected image would be loaded. Now when I choose Edit in Photoshop from PSE7 Photoshop CS4 launches but the selected image is not loaded. Can anyone point me in the direction for a resolution on this? Thanks!

Lightroom edit in photoshop

Hello, I have lightroom 3 and photoshop cs4 and cs5
I have a problem, I can open a nikon raw file in lightroom, make adjustments etc, but when I try the "edit in photoshop" option with the right click menu, it just sits there.
Multiple or a single file make no difference, so I uninstalled cs5 (which I just bought) removed all the file for it, and installed cs 4 thinking it was that, but same issue.
Anyone else run into this problem?

Editing in photoshop, then returning to lightroom

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I've been searching for a while now and haven't found an answer.
If I select the 'edit in photoshop' option in lighroom, the images opens up in photoshop as expected. If I then save the image in PS, it creases a new tiff version of the image which is then put back in lightroom. If I go back into lightroom, and select my new PS edited image, and now apply one of my presets, the image looks horrible and not what the preset is supposed to look like. I think it's because when you open up a canon RAW file, certain sliders are set at certain values. For example, brighness is at +50 by default on a RAW file. When I apply my preset the brightness goes up to +60. However on my new PS edited tiff, the brightness is at 0, and when I apply the same preset, instead of going up by 10, it goes up to 60, which of course blows the whole image out since it's an increase of 60 and not 10 like if I applied the preset to the original RAW file.
My question is, is there anyway to reset the image somehow so a preset will look good on a PS edited tiff?

Not at all...Presets are "Absolute Settings" meaning that the settings are being applied regardless of the original file's condition. A raw file and a rendered tiff (or psd) will be completely different...
You need to create a separate set of Presets for raw files and rendered files such as jpeg or tiff/psd files. It's an either/or situation...
Note, Quick Develop settings ARE "relative" vs. "absolute" so you can adjust both raw files and rendered files using QD.

Sudenly the edit in photoshop option has been greyed out in both programs It has always worked and for no apparant reason that I can recall this has happened Can anyone advise what has caused this please

You didn't describe any problem, except for not being able to re-install. And your problem is not the same as brownwood1 had.
Your problem is probably from passing a 16-bit file to Photoshop, and most of the filters only work on 8-bit files. You can change Bit Depth in your preferences:

"Edit in Photoshop Elements" does not appear as option in Lightroom 4.3

Also, my Photoshop Elements 11 program also has all the current updates.
Please note that in the interest of time, that all of the "solutions" were attempted in the above mentioned link
Also, was on hold with Adobe Lightroom help phone support for over 1.5 hours without any agent answeing the phone. Also Adobe automatied phone support states that Photoshop Elements is not supported free of charge and it is fee based. How is a consumer suppose to have a problem corrected in Lightroom that stems from Elements when it is suppose to intergrate that way between the two programs but any help to try to correct the way it is suppose to work will cost you an addition fee in phone support for Elements?
And help on fixing this issue will be apprecitated.

Did this with Adobe support in LIVE CHAT, what a waist of time. Although this will correct the issue, it is like a work around and not solving why EDIT IN PHOTOSHOP... is not a clickable option (greyed out) in LR.
After the configure as suggested above, does this preclude and editing in Lighroom?
What I want to do is:
Edit the photo in LR except for:
the useage the great Spot Healing Brush Tool that PSE offers, edit that part of it in PSE then SAVE the results back to LR. Any problems or suggestions for this?

Lightroom and using the Edit in Photoshop CS3 Options

Today, I installed Lightroom v1.1 and Photoshop CS3 v10.0.1 I have an issue...Using Lightroom, I import a photo (JPG) into LR Library. Then, I right-click the photo and select the option to Edit In Photoshop CS3. This opens a window within Lightroom and there are three available options concerning What to Edit. Two Options reference Edit a Copy and One Option references Edit the Original. The two referencing Editing a Copy always says Lightroom cannot prepare the file for editing and that the file cannot be opened. If I select the last option to Edit the Original, that photo is brought into PS CS3 for Editing.
This is also the situation with files TIFF and PSD.
This is also the situation if I use a different Photo Editor other than PS CS3.
I have read the user manual and if I read correctly, the Two Options which do not work should also work. Or does my thinking need correction?
I would appreciate someone helping me with the understanding of this issue.

I think Judith has a point.
I believe I should be able to Import a JPG from somewhere (HD, Floppy Drive, CD Drive)into the LR Library and then call upon Photoshop CS3 to Edit that JPG. If I am not incorrect, when reading the Lightroom Documentation, I see where this action is supported.
The action is: Right-Click a JPG (also TIF and PSD as well) in the LR Libary. From the menu presented, select Edit in the Adobe Photoshop CS3. A new Window appears from which to select either of two Edit a Copy Actions (with LR adjustments or without LR adjustments), I alway receive a Warning Window saying: Lightroom was unable to prepare the selected file at C:\Documents and Settings\My Name\My Documents\My Pictures\photo.JPG (or TIF or PSD) for editing. It will not be opened.
If I select Edit the Original, the photo is brought into CS3 for editing. This selection is the only one which work. I wish to point out that the Copy File Options are grayed-out with the Edit Original Selection. And, the Copy File Options are NOT Grayed-out with Copy Options.
In summary, if Copy File Options available, the JPG (or TIF or PSD) will not be prepared by Lighrooom for editing in CS3. My Copy File Options show TIFF and PSD pnly; no JPG. If I read correctly, I cannot Copy a JPG for editing into CS3. What I do not understand is if I have a TIFF or PSD in the Library, the Copy Option still fails to execute. The point John has made about RAW requires me to look into that aspect. I need to know more about that.
Can anyone right-click a JPG in the LR Libary. Then select Edit in CS3. Then use either of the two Copy Functions Selections for the action of that JPG being prepared by LR and brought into CS3 for editing?
This action will not work for me.
I do plan to update my version soon.

Same here. I've never had trouble with this function before.
It opens the Photoshop application with all the menus/windows, but it never opens the actual image I chose to work on.
I'm on a Mac, using OS X Yosemite, 10.10.1 Lightroom is version 5.7 Photoshop is CS5, version 12.0.4

Lightroom no longer offers options when choosing an image to edit in Photoshop

For some reason Lightroom no longer gives me any options when I select the 'edit in photoshop CC'. It automatically opens the image with the lightroom settings applied but i want to edit the original without any lightroom effects applied.
I have Lightroom 5 and photoshop CC both with camera RAW 8.7.1

It has always allowed me in the past to send an image i am working on in LR to PS (I would choose to edit the original) the when saved down in PS it would then update the version in LR with the LR effects added as well. Suddenly it no longer gives me the option to 'edit the original '. I have always worked in RAW

"Edit in Photoshop CC 2014" option in Lightroom 5.5 - Photo doesn't open in CC2014

When i use the "Edit in Photoshop CC 2014" option in Lightroom 5.5, Photoshop CC2014 will open, but the photo I want to edit in Photoshop, doesn't load up. To edit a photo in CC14 I have had to set up an Export option that saves the photo as a tiff and then opens in CC2014. Is there a setting I have missed to enable the transfer using "Edit in..."

I started having this problem after I uninstalled Photoshop CC. I even tried not removing its preferences while uninstalling, but I still ended up with the same problem. The only solution I can find is to reinstall Photoshop CC. Only then will Photoshop CC 2014 open a photo from Lightroom 5.5. I also notice that with DNGs, I no longer am presented with an option to "edit original," "edit with Lightroom changes," etc. It just opens the DNG with LR changes. When opening a PSD, however, I do see this prompt. When installing the upgrades, Adobe said we could uninstall Photoshop CC and continue using Photoshop CC 2014 once we were comfortable with Photoshop CC 2014. Apparently that's not the case when using Lightroom's "edit in" feature. I'm really disappointed that I have to keep unused applications installed just to make another application work semi-properly. :-(
