Edit in Photoshop TIFF Compression Not Applied

I'm running LR4.1 on Windows 7 and have my LR 'External Editing' preferences set to 'ZIP' compression. When I 'Save' an 'Edit In' file from inside PS CS6 it does not apply ZIP compression. I verified this by checking the file size, then resaving using 'Save As' and selecting 'ZIP' compression in the save file options. The file size was reduced as expected, so LR is creating a TIFF file that does not respect my preferences setting for 'ZIP' compression.
In addition the TIFF file created by LR4.1 'Edit In' defaults to Macintosh 'Byte Order:
There is no LR 'Preferences' setting to change the 'Byte Order' to IBM PC, yet many agencies specifically want TIFF files with Intel/PC byte order. I will now have to go back and manually change these settings on any images sent to these agencies. In addition I will have to manually do a 'Save As' and reset these TIFF options for all future LR 'Edit In' Photoshop images.
Does anyone else have the same issue and/or have a more suitable solution?
Message was edited by: trshaner I forgot to add that once you 'Save' a LR 'Edit In' image in PS, the TIFF save dialouge toggles to Macintosh 'Byte Order. This means you have to manually change it in PS the next time ANY TIFF file is opened and resaved inside, to re-toggle it back to the preferred settings.

That's a very good question. Go to this post with last comment from one year ago:
Lightroom/Photoshop: TIFF compression settings have no effect when Lightroom sends image to Photoshop for editing

You can use Image Processor Pro to apply compression to multiple TIFFs already processed, but there's no option in it for also adding ZIP layer compression.

  • Lightroom 5.6 Error: The file could not be edited because Photoshop CC could not be launched...

I upgraded to lightroom 5.6 recently and i am using photoshop cs 6.
My OS is windows 8 on i5 4670 with R280X gfx card 16gb ram
After editing a photo with lightroom , when I right click to edit in photoshop, immediately photoshop launch but the image isnt imported to photoshop.
After like 30sec  an error message pop out saying "The file could not be edited because Photoshop CC could not be launched".
After another 10sec then the photo appear in photoshop... this is getting irritating to me.
if i select to just open the original or a copy of the original it works fine. It only happens when I try to open it with lightroom changes.
I had uninstall/reinstall both photoshop and lightroom as well as remove all the plugins i had, but the problem doesnt go away.
Another issue with lightroom 5.6 is the the adjustment brush is slow and sluggish, it is so unusable when I zoom in to use the adjustment brush.

  • "Edit in Photoshop Elements" does not appear as option in Lightroom 4.3

    After viewing this artical:
http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/edit-photoshop-command-missing-photoshop.html  and completing all options related to the Mac, the "Edit in Photoshop..." still does not appear as a clckable option in my Lightroom 4.3 program which has all the current updates.  Also, my Photoshop Elements 11 program also has all the current updates.
Please note that in the interest of time, that all of the "solutions" were attempted in the above mentioned link
Also, was on hold with Adobe Lightroom help phone support for over 1.5 hours without any agent answeing the phone.  Also Adobe automatied phone support states that Photoshop Elements is not supported free of charge and it is fee based.  How is a consumer suppose to have a problem corrected in Lightroom that stems from Elements when it is suppose to intergrate that way between the two programs but any help to try to correct the way it is suppose to work will cost you an addition fee in phone support for Elements?
And help on fixing this issue will be apprecitated.
    Lightroom v 4.3 / Camera RAW v 7.3
    Elements v 11.0 / Camera RAW v 7.3.0.71

Did this with Adobe support in LIVE CHAT, what a waist of time.  Although this will correct the issue, it is like a work around and not solving why EDIT IN PHOTOSHOP... is not a clickable option (greyed out) in LR.
After the configure as suggested above, does this preclude and editing in Lighroom?
What I want to do is:
Edit the photo in LR except for:
the useage the great Spot Healing Brush Tool that PSE offers, edit that part of it in PSE then SAVE the results back to LR.  Any problems or suggestions for this?
    Thanks so much

  • Edit in photoshop CC 2014 not available in Lightroom 5.7.1

I have both programs installed (Lightroom 5.7.1 and Photoshop CC 2014) but the option to edit in photoshop CC 2014 is grayed out when in Lightroom. Any help is greatly wanted.

Lightroom might not know where the original image is located on your system. In that case the Photo > Edit In > Edit in Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 menu will be greyed out.
You can check this by looking at the image icons and folder icons in Library view.
When you look at the image in the Library, does it contain a small warning sign?
If yes, then click on this sign and locate the file on your system or network.
Something else to check is the folders that the images are in. If all the folders contain a small question mark on them, then Right-click the folder and choose Find Missing Folder.
    Hope this helps,
    Cari

  • Lightroom 5.2 Error: The file could not be edited because Photoshop CC could not be launched...

When I am using Lightroom 5.2, and I try to edit a file in Adobe Photoshop CC from Lightroom, Photoshop starts up and after 15 to 20 seconds, I receive the following error message: "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CC could not be launched." If I click "OK" on the error message form, the image finally opens in Photoshop.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Lightroom 5.2 and Photoshop CC multiple times, but the edit in Photoshop problem won't go away.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?
    Thanks,
    Mark

I am having the same problem in lightroom 5 on a mac (Mavericks).  I'm wondering if it's because I have both Photoshop CS5 and Photoshop CC and somehow they are conflicting, but I don't see how.  I clearly have Photoshop CC as the primary external editor.
Last night, after seeing this post, and ekupp's response, I uninstalled Photoshop CC and reinstalled it via the creative cloud and that fixed it, but today it's doing the same thing again. When I choose to edit in photoshop CC, Photoshop CC opens but I still get the error in lightroom.  If Photoshop CC is already open, I still get the error.  I refuse to keep uninstalling/reinstalling it...  I can't lose Photoshop CS5 as I use it for designing (I like the view in mini bridge better), but I like CC for editing.
This is creating a secondary problem for me as I am ending up with a bazillion (OK, maybe 5) psd copies of the raw files that I want to edit.  When I get the error, Lightroom proceeds to render the files.  I really want to turn that function off because as of now I have to try to click the microscopic "x" for each file as it "prepares to edit" and that's tedious and is creating extra files I don't want.
Last thing, since I'm here and hopeful to get an answer...  I have a Mac, as I stated and I like my spaces.  However, when the "edit in photoshop" function works spaces continues to force me to the photoshop space.  No multitasking allowed as my files are opened.  I think this is a lightroom or photoshop quirk, as when I run actions I am able to go to a different space (safari or lightroom) to work as it works for me.

  • Lightroom 3's "edit in photoshop CS4" does not preserve "detail" values

    Hi all,
I am giving lightroom 3 a try (finally...), but noticed that when I have an image to which I have applied "detail" adjustments to reduce luminescence and color noise, using "edit in Photoshop CS4" opens the image without the detail adjustments applied. I don't see the option to pick whether to edit "the image" or "the image with lightroom settings" anywhere, and I'm scratching my head trying to find an option in the preferences (both LR and Catalog prefs) that lets me pick "edit with lightroom settings applied".
    It's a bit useless this way =/
Does anyone know how to make "edit in ..." for lightroom 3 always apply the image corrections to the edit copy?

I had been looking for that option, turns out the only way to get it back was to reset all warning dialogs. After telling LR to render with lightroom, things look great again.
    Thanks!

  • Lightroom 5.5 edit in Photoshop CC 2014 not working.

Has anyone had problems using the edit in photoshop cc 2014 option from the Lightroom 5 drop-down menu? It won't open in photoshop for some reason... never hat problems with photoshop cc.

No need to reinstall. There's a patch.

  • Edit in Photoshop greyed out, not available in LR 4.2

When I right click a photo in LR 4.2, I cannot get the option to edit in Photoshop Elements 11. The option to open in Photoshop is greyed out. What do I need to do to fix this? I have the Preferences in the Eternal Editing tab set to edit as a PSD, sRGB, 8 bit.
    What else do I do?

Below is a screenshot of my Lightroom preferences panel.
    Lightroom v4.3
    Photoshop Elements Editor 10.0
    Mac OS X 10.7.5
I'll try setting up photoshop elements as the  secondary editor but shouldn't it  work as the primary editor?

  • Lightroom - edit in PS TIFF compression problem

    Hello everybody,
when I send my image to photoshop from lightroom via edit in function, after I save it (ctrl + s) in ps the output tiff file is always uncompressed regardless the compression setting in lightroom.
I noticed it because the sizes of the tiffs are rather huge. I checked the tiff properties in explorer and it says uncompressed indeed. Every other settings in lightroom edit in ps preferences seem to work. This behavior is the same with dngs and jpegs, just when lightroom is handing over the original to ps. It doesn't occur when lightroom renders its own copy and handing it over to ps afterwards.
A workaround is to use save as in ps but anyway..
Am I missing something, or is it a bug? Thanks for your answer.
Lightroom 3.6 64bit, Photoshop CS 5.1 64bit, Win 7. I also tried it with LR 4 beta and it's the same (due to incompatibility Open anyway option). Tiffs always come back uncompressed as well.

I totally agree. This is easy to replicate.   I am running LR4 and PS5 on an IMac.
Open  a 20MB dng file to PS5 from Lightroom and then save via Command S.  Tif file size is 150MB and compression is at level 1.
Open a 20MB dng file directly to PS5  and then use Save As and choose ZIP compression.  Tif file size is 36MB and compression is level 8.
This is a long standing problem!  Is it fixed in PS6?

  • Editing in Photoshop Elements 6 - not a choice in Preferences

I have both PSE6 and onOne Essentials for iPhoto. When I go to Preferences - General - Edit Photo, only Essentials is listed as an option for editing in an external editor. How do I either add Photoshop Elements to the list or replace Essentials with PSE in the list. Once done, there will be times that I'll want to replace PSE with Essentials.
If there isn't a way to do this, what's the best/easiest/least confusing way to get photos from iPhoto into PSE6 for editing and then getting them back again into iPhoto with all the edits? (I've seen several comments about "bridge", so I know to stay away from it. I'm not that "computer savvy".)
Thanks for any insight you may have.

In the Preferences - General - Edit Photo, click where it says "Essentials" and wait a moment. A Finder window should pop open, allowing you to navigate to your Applications folder and choose PSE6 or any other appropriate application.
There is no way to set 2 different external editors, so you'll just have to use that procedure to switch between PSE6 and Essentials. You can, however, easily switch between using an external editor and using iPhoto without changing the Preferences. To use an external editor as your default, leave it selected in the Preferences. You can edit in iPhoto by clicking the Full Screen Edit icon near the bottom of the iPhoto window. Conversely, you can have iPhoto as your default editor. After choosing the external editor you prefer, switch the Preference setting back to one of the iPhoto options. To use your external editor, right-click (Control-click) and choose "Edit in External Editor" from the contextual menu.
    Regards.

  • Photo Edit In Photoshop Elements 10 not working

I've set up  Lightroom so that my PS Elements 10 appears as a menu item in the Photo -> Edit In menu.
When I select that option for the selected photo, it begins the process of opening Photoshop Elements 10.  PS Elements 10 opens and is functional but there is no open image - it does not load the image selected in Lightroom.
    (I'm using LR4.3 and PSE 10.0 on Mac OS X 10.7.5)
    What could be wrong?
    Follow-up:
When I came back to the computer about 10 mins later a dialogue box had appeared saying "Could not complete your request because of a program error."

You chose the logical file instead of the correct one, most likely. Adobe sneakily hides the actual editor inside the support files folder. You want this one:
The one at the top level is just a link to the welcome screen.

  • Edit in Photoshop CC (2014) not transferring back to Lightroom

After uninstalling and reinstalling LR 5.5 AND Photoshop CC (2014) I was finally able to get images to go from LR to PS, but after editing the TIFs are not reimporting into Lightroom. The images save in the same folder.
    OS Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
    Lightroom Version 5.5
    Photoshop Version:  Photoshop CC (2014)
    Intel Core i7 2.4ghz

I think I know what is happening.  The images are importing back into lightroom but are NOT being added to the collection.  They show in "Previous Import."  I have to manually put them into the correct collection.

  • Edit in Photoshop CS 5 not working with 6.4.1

I recently updated to 6.4.1.  When I try to do an "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS5..." on a file, CS5 starts up but the file never appears. My platform is Windows XP SP 3.  Camera Raw Plug-in in CS5 is 6.4.1.145. This happens for RAW files as well as TIF/JPEGs.  With other than raw, I get the proper dialog box, from Lightroom, but the file never appears in CS5. "Open as Smart Object in Photoshop"  also fails. Help!

    Mike,
Sometimes, starting Photoshop first and leaving it running in the background can help.
Also, you can try renaming (or moving aside) your preferences file: C:Documents and Settings/[username]/Application Data/Adobe/Lightroom/Preferences/Lightroom 3 Preferences.agprefs. If that works, you'll need to re-establish your preferences, but it's a small price to pay.

  • Can edit in Photoshop 7 but not CS?

    Hi
I have a weird problem in iPhoto 08. When I set Photoshop 7.0 as the external editor, I double click a photo and it opens in Photoshop 7, as one would expect.
However, when I set Photoshop CS as the editor, when I double click an image it opens, but with no photo to edit!
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Roger
You're going to need to re-install CS. What's happening is that an essential component that works with the script to open the pic is missing, and you need to put it back.
Mind you, I'm a little surprised that CS doesn't borrow the same script elements as v7.

  • Non destructive crop preserved when you "Edit in Photoshop"

I hope that there would be an option in the future to crop an image in lightroom, then when you open to "edit in photoshop" the image would be cropped using photoshop new non destructive crop. So that i can tweak color and retouch the whole image then close and i can do final cropping back in LR.

Sometimes, people crop pictures in LR before making many adjustments just to see if the image works, then go on to the next image etc... then batch export to psd or even edit in PS one by one to retouch. Its painstaking to make a virtual copy, reset the crop, export/edit in psd, then copy the original crop from the master raw, then paste it to the psd file. Another way, adobe can make this work is to have an option to have "Edit in Photoshop" command to not apply the crop from LR. Open the full image, then when it imports it back to LR have LR apply the non destructive crop.
