'Edit in Place' for XLSM-files (Excel Macro-Enabled)

Hi,
is it possible to activate 'Edit in Place' for xlsm-files (Excel Macro-Enabled Workbook file)?
For xls(x)-files there is the link 'Edit This File', but not for files of type 'xlsm' allthough they could be dealt the same way with Excel.
I know I can edit this files using the 'Add-in for MS Office' and via the 'Vibe Desktop', but it would be nice to deal them like other Excel-files.
thx
Martin

Append ".xlsm" for the variable edit.in.place.file.applet.extensions, edit.in.place.file.webdav.extensions
Hi Martin,
Yeah, the Vibe docs can help on occasion
Still, thanks for feeding it back to the forums as it can be quicker finding a hit in the forums than having to go through the docs!

  • Ordering iTunes to search a different place for a file?

When I reformatted my computer and used an external hard drive to back up my music, I plugged it in and just told iTunes to look for the music and it found it, and it works fine. But iTunes is putting a serious tax on my computer and slows down considerably when I use it, and I think it might be because it had to access the external hard drive for all 1989 songs I have. And so when I turn the EHD off and tell iTunes to play a song it comes up with the message that it can't find the file and I need to locate. I already copied all my music onto my computer's HD and I want to tell iTunes to find all the music in my Library on my computer and not the external hard drive becuase I sorted and deleted a lot of songs and I don't want to tell it to just find all my music on my comp, have to delete all the old paths to the EHD, and then reorganize.
Is there a way to get iTunes to look for the paths for all of the songs in the iTunes music folder and not do it individually?

Two options: 1) is to edit the iTunes Library.xml file and import it into iTunes (deleting the current Library first). 2) A script to fix the paths
    Details:
    1) First, if you want to keep all your existing non-smart playlists, select each playlist in iTunes and "Export Song List" from the File menu. Check to make sure in iTunes preferences that your Library location is on the internal HD and not the external HD.
Close iTunes. Make a copy of the files "iTunes Library.xml" and "iTunes Library.itl" in My Documents\My Music\iTunes. Edit the XML file and any exported song lists using any text editor (e.g. Notepad). Hopefully you can just do a find/replace using the paths from the old EHD and the internal HD. Open iTunes, and delete your Library. It shouldn't ask you to move files to the recycle bin unless you updated the paths to some of the songs already. Then import the XML file you edited, and the exported playlist text files.
    2) I can write a script that would find all the songs with paths on the EHD and edit the path to be in the new location. This assumes the directory structure and file names are all the same under the Library folder. I'm too tired and cranky to do it now . If you're a perl expert, you can look at some of my other posts (like this one and examine other scripts I've posted, and edit to do what you want.

  • Best place for configuration files

I am creating an application that gets installed into the the [ProgramFiles] directory. The application writes to a config file every time it closes and the user also has the ability to write a config file at any point in time. After the application is installed no configuration files can be written. I am getting the following error:  "LabVIEW:  File permission error. You do not have the correct permissions for the file."
    1. What do I need to do to be able to write config files to the directory where the application is installed?
    2. If I wanted to save the files in some users folder, how can I keep track of this path from the development environment, to the exe and then across different OS's?
    3. Is there a general convention/location for config files that the application needs to write to?
I know during the build installer phase we can put data in all these different Microsoft folders. But is there a way to get the paths to these folders in my application? (see image below)
I am running Windows 7 and LabVIEW 8.5.
    Thanks for your help

Win32 consists of several DLLs. It is not .Net but the original interface in Windows to access operation system functions. It is available on every Windows PC because it implements Windows. The LV VI "File Dialog" is just a wrapper for the Win32 function FileOpenEx Which every program uses to select a file.
Storing user settings in the registry is outdatet. Modern Visual Studio programs store setting in files with .config extention.
Settings may be stored in various places depending of their need.
Settings which apply only to this special PC are stored where the application is installed. These settings are set during setup and won't change afterwards whithout any changes to the PC.
Settings which are common to different Windows users are stored in the All users\Appdata folder. The path to this folder is in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Common AppData. Typical data stored there are test setups or serial numbers of external devices.
Data files which are common to different Windows users are stored in the All users\Data folder. The path to this folder is in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Common Documents. Typical data may be test result protocolls.
Settings which are unique to different Windows users are stored in the<username> \Appdata folder. The path to this folder is in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\AppData. Typical data may be personal number, department number.
Data files which are unique to different Windows users are stored in the <username>\Data folder. The path to this folder is in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Personal.
It is normal that the user has full acces to the last for paths and read access to the first path.
Use the Example Finder to find the registry VI examples.

  • Correct place for certain files

    Hi
An embarrassing question: After just having installed Snow Leopard, I tried to trim the system for unnecessary files. In some cases, I am afraid I was too eager. I rescued the following files from the Trash and would like to re-install them - but I don't know where they belong. Can you please help me? The files are:
    1- a folder "Contents", containing a..d:
    a/_CodeSignature (folder)/ CodeResources
    /CodeResources (alias)
    /Info.plist
    b- MacOS ƒ/Apple
    c- Resources ƒ, containing 5 folders for 5 languages, each containing InfoPlist.strings;
    and then 3 files:
    english.contractions.plist
    english.conversions.plist
    english.inputconversions.plist
    d- version.plist
    2-Gamma Adjust.qtz
    3-iLifeSlideshow_103.pkg
Thank you for your help! - Hening.

It's almost impossible to know where they came from since you are the one who deleted them. Unfortunately, you rescued them. Had you left them in the Trash you could have used the Put Back option of the Finder to move them back where they came from, but once removed from the Trash the option is gone.
The various folders and files can come from anywhere as they are similar in many different locations including from within program packages.
It might be easier to erase the hard drive and reinstall SL from scratch. And, in the future don't go removing things you know nothing about or don't know the consequences of removal. Stay away from the System and Library folders. Do not remove, move, or rename anything in those folders. And unless you know what you are doing it's a good idea to say out of the /Home/Library/ folder.

  • Best place for scratch files, imported video on laptop with single drive

    Hi all,
I read that is was best to put the scratch files on a disk other than that the program resides on, so I did. That makes sense.
But later, when I was reading about people's problems with CS4 crashing, I read I'm not meant to be using USB drives .... so, my question is:
On a laptop with a single hard disk and a USB external drive, where is the best place? Do the performance problems with scratch files on a single disk trump those of using USB or vice versa.
Perhaps its something I'll have to try myself but wondering about other people's experience.
    Cheers

I'm with Harm on the eSATA. I will say that FW-800 works for me, but as more of my externals offer eSATA now, I'll probably migrate to that connection very soon. Even with 3x 200GB 7200RPM SATA II HDD's on my laptop, I do a lot of work with externals, 'cause I migrate the Projects to my workstation. Just remember to set a unique drive letter for the external(s) in the OS of all computers, or you WILL have issues. An eSATA card is cheap, though your externals need to have the connection. Externals are also cheaper now. I'm paying the same for 2TB units, that I paid for 250GB ones, when they first came out! For what I paid for a 1.5TB RAID NAS, I could now get 16TB in a hot-swappable enclosure.
As for USB's, I tried that years ago, and gave up in frustration. The connection was just too slow, and often timed out, or worse. I'd not do that again, on a bet - sorry, but I am too impatient and then there were the crashes...

  • Editing SharePoint metadata for Visio files

When I am editing Visio files metadata in SharePoint 2007, it opens a web dialog page to enter the metadata for the SharePoint library, but, when a column field is type: choice-drop down menu. It doesn't take current metadata for those fields, so, the current
metadata has to be chosen again. Is there any technical document that explains this?
It also takes too much time to open Visio templates in SharePoint, it doesn't happen with Visio standard files, the solution was to uncheck automatically detect settings, but is there any other solution?
I am using Windows 7, Office 2010, Visio 2010 and Internet Explorer v8.

    Hi Javi,
    thank for the reply,
after some discussion, trial and research, seems there is a process that is missed.
as i know, when we check out the document the metadata itself cannot be edited. so then while we already saved the metadata, as by design the web file properties will be out and the metadata needs to be re-input again, as they will not be passed on check
    in process.
so, this behavior is most likely by design, if you need to customize this then i think you need to open a ticket to us.
"By default you cannot edit MetaData in case the document is checked-out - which is by design and acceptable. But if you open up a checked-out document from a WSS doclib and edit it in Word and click File > Save As - in order to save the document back
into WSS - you are prompted for typing in MetaData (Web File Properties). In case you change or fill out some of them and in order to see them reflected on the WSS page you have to check-in the document again - which you will be ask for to do while closing
    the office application btw.
If you keep the document checked-out the metadata are not reflected on the WSS page and are hidden (stored somewhere...) to the user. Users are confused because they cannot see the Metadata they typed in until they check-in the document. This wasn´t necassary
with SPS2001 where we could see the changes we made to metadata immediately on the dashboard. And as Joerg also mentioned bad user experience - we create unnecessary versions as we have to check-in the document which creates an additional version.
Solution here would be: either to reflect the changed MetaData immediately without the need to check-in the document or to avoid the Web File Properties Dialog box while performing a Save As of a checked-out document. "

  • Editing old msWord (for windows) files on iPad?

I just bought an iPad2.  My last computer was a Windows pc.  I have lots of old MSWord files I'd like to open and edit on my iPad.  How can I do that?  What is the best app for writing and editing text files?

    Hi
If they are in a .DOC format, then you should be able to read them on your iPad 2, but you will need an App from the App Store.
Such apps are iWork Pages, Office to Go & QuickOffice.

  • The place for source file

When We deploy custom OAF applications, We put class in the $JAVA_TOP and import definition files such as PG to DB.
As manners, where should I put the source file?

For java, only class files are maintained. For your custom developments, it depends on you based on what source control you use.
For page, region xml files, you can keep them on MDS_TOP apart from your source control software.

  • Can I programmatically force saving an XLTM template to save as an XLSM file in Excel 2010 without defaulting all Excel file types?

I created an Excel template which includes VB and macros as an EXCEL.XLTM template file (I used a template file to keep users from overwriting the sample template file), but I have noticed that when users save the template, Excel 2010 defaults to saving
the new file as a XLSX file (removing all the macros).
I know you can set Excel 2010 to always save as a certain format, but I really would prefer not forcing all Excel files to be macro enabled for the user
Is there a way to default the Save type to XLSM for this template only?  Like some code that I could put in that when the users saves, it saves as a macro enabled XLSM type only for this template file?
My users aren't exactly Excel savvy, so I wanted to make it as simple as possible for them.
    Thanks!
    Alan Edwards

    Hi Alan,
    >> Is there a way to default the Save type to XLSM for this template only?  Like some code that I could put in that when the users saves, it saves as a macro enabled XLSM type only for this template file?
In my option, you could achieve this by adding Application.GetSaveAsFilename Method to the workbook BeforeSave event. Some key code like below:
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeSave(ByVal SaveAsUI As Boolean, Cancel As Boolean)
    Dim FileNameVal As String
    If SaveAsUI Then
FileNameVal = Application.GetSaveAsFilename(, "Excel Macro-Enabled Workbook (*.xlsm), *.xlsm")
    Cancel = True
If FileNameVal = "False" Then 'User pressed cancel
    Exit Sub
    End If
    ThisWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:=FileNameVal & ".xlsm", FileFormat:=xlOpenXMLWorkbookMacroEnabled
    Application.EnableEvents = True
    End If
    End Sub
But there is a limitation of this workaround, in this workaround, the save as will only support the macro enabled type, other save as types like "xlsx" will be ignored.
For more information about Application.GetSaveAsFilename Method (Excel), you could turn to the link below:
    #Application.GetSaveAsFilename Method (Excel)

  • How to open excel files from email in macro enabled workbooks NOT 2003-2007 worksheets?

I have recently installed Office 365 and it was working great. I needed to open excel documents via email with the macro enabled option. Yesterday it flicked back to only giving me the option to open in 2003-2007 workbook so now I am having issues with the
macros. I am contracting and trying to get work out and this has now caused huge problems.
Am thinking of uninstalling and reinstalling. I did have older versions of ms office so maybe there is some residual content there to remove? I have tried to change the associations and protocols to open in excel macro enabled workbooks but these tick boxes
are greyed out and I do not know how to gain access to these. Have been hunting all through my computer system but do not know how to do this. Am no expert.
If someone could help I would really appreciate it otherwise will need to find some computer shop expert I suppose...urgently ha.
    Thanks in advance

it's sound like excel 13 disable the macros, turn on it will fix your issue.

  • Edit-in-place NOT working...

I've recently installed FCS at our small shop. I've read the Geller book, followed the Admin manual, and pretty much have gotten it to work.
However, I can't get "edit in place" to work. It did work when I initially installed the system and tested it. And now, after a complete re-install, it doesn't work.
I am using two local RAIDs. Each have a media directory that I set up as a device. For example:
One device is called "Mojo Project Media 02"
In the Device Pane (on the Admin / Client Java Interface) the Local Directory reads:
    "/Volumes/RAID_02/Mojo Project Media 02"
So the Mac edit-in-place URI reads:
    "file://localhost/Volumes/RAID_02/Mojo Project Media 02"
I can't get the edit in place URI to not ad "localhost" but I don't think this should matter.
Whenever I try to move media into a Browser Window from FCS, it tells me I must copy it to my local cache first. This didn't happen when I first installed/configured the system.
Can you not set up edit-in-place for a local directory (ie. a volume locally attached to the server with FCS installed)?
I know it worked before. Is there something I am missing?

    Thanks A. Richards.
After much testing, I realized that on the FCSr machine that it indeed had edit-in-place status because of the storage directly attached to it. BUT the other client computers did not.
So basically, since we don't have the $1000 a seat for XSAN and we are only cutting DV and DVCPRO HD...
We could configure our Mac Pro Server to be an AFP share over the network; it's plenty fast over Ethernet since it's aggregated over 6 gigabit ports to a switch and has PCIe RAID storage attached. We could give this edit-in-place status IF...
We used another machine (server class) to install FCSr on.
    This would work right?

  • Execute Excel Macro Through DIAdem

    Hi All,
I am currently trying to run a script in DIAdem which exports certain material properties to an Excel Macro-enabled workbook.  Inside the Excel workbook the user executes a macro to perform some calculations.  The results of that calculation will then be re-imported into a DIAdem report.  I have the import/export data part down, but the million dollar question is how can I execute an Excel macro from DIAdem's VBScript?
I know some are going to say this makes no sense, just do the calculation in DIAdem.  I know this, but the file/calculations are an industry accepted toolbox and it must be done this way.
Thanks in advance and here is some dumbed down code to showcase the example:
Option Explicit 'Forces the explicit declaration of all the variables in a script.
    Dim excel
    Dim excelbook
    Dim a
    Set Excel = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
    Excel.Visible = True
    Set excelbook=Excel.Workbooks.Open("My File")
    excelbook.Sheets("InputResults").range("B5").value = Data.Root.ChannelGroups(ChanGrp#).Properties("myProp").Value
    'Call 'My_Macro' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Msgbox("Result is: " & excelbook.Sheets("InputResults").range("B5").value)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi GT_Mark
You simply can use the methode Run
    Call Excel.Run("MyMacro")
Of course you have to make sure that you refer only to data that are available in Excel.
To obtain CodeCompletion for Excel in the script editor select Microsoft Excel x.x Objects Library in the "Registed Type Libraries" dialog box. The x.x value depends on your installed Excel version.  To open this dialog box, select Script»Type Libraries in DIAdem SCRIPT.
    Hope this helps

I know the online clouds are a good solution (used Dropbox at work and uni for 3 years) however i am wanting to create my own 'dropbox/icloud' at home. So whenever i get back home with my laptop, any work i have been working on whilst out that day is updated to the timecapsule, and then ultimately as i turn on the other devices, they update to those newer versions of the files. Please tell me that the 3TB time capsule i have can do this, otherwise it feels rather overpriced as a wireless storage device?
Another note (to those in the know) If i am to be working on large files (REVIT/SOLIDWORKS/KEYSHOT/CREO/AUTOCAD) - is the timecapsule connection good enough to support editing and updating these files?
I know i may be asking a question that many have before, but as a bit of a technical novice I wanted a clear-cut answer to my specific circumstances. Your help is greatly appreciated.
(*can i use this WD hard-drive that is connected to the Time Capsule as a back up? so that the time machine back-ups/any back ups are also backed up onto this one? can the WD be a backup for the TC?)
