Edit in PS CS4 loses metadata

I am on OS X 10.5.5, LR 2.1 and PS CS4 11.0
When I "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS4" (cmd + E) with a RAW file (NEF), it will lose its metadata.
Already in PS the metadata is gone (menu File>File Info ...).
This concerns metadata that has been appended in Lightroom. Not metadata that has been already in the RAW file (by appending it in Photo Mechanic for instance).
Also, if I have set up PS CS4 as the Additional External Editor and send the file with cmd + option + E, the metadata is there. I will get a warning from Photoshop ("This file contains file info data which cannot be read and has been ignored"), but otherwise all works well.
This is pretty annoying and I consider it a bug. Are there other experiences out there?
Thomas

Thanks, Ian, for the prompt reply!
It's a bit of a standard solution fot most of the profile-corrections I read. Nothing wrong with it.
Only, bringing it to PS following the second route I'll have to "save with adjustments" and will reset all my sliders to 0 (not to mention the mask and brush adjustments!!). Having various import develop-presets applied, it's a pretty darn thing to resume editng from there on. Starting with applying the second route in my workflow will also destroy a lot of presets as well (and imagine having all RAW files as PSD too!!).
Using the Lens profile creator, could I temper with the adobe-profiles to let them work with the PSD's as well, or, could I make my own 12-24 profile and get it applied ond PSDs?
Thanks,
Alex.

  • Edit in Photoshop CS4... does not open the selected file.

    Sorry if this is an old topic, but I can not seem to find the answer and I was hoping someone here might know.
    When in Lightroom (2.2 or 2.3) if I select "Edit in Photoshop CS4..." or any of those dropdown commands, Photoshop opens....and that is it. The selected photo from Lightroom is NOT opened/merged/panoramaized. duuh. frustrating.
    So I re-installed Lightroom, updated to the 2.3, re-installed CS4. all with the same effect that Photoshop opens, but the selected file is NOT opened.
    Has anyone experienced this? Any solutions?
    Thanks in advance.

    When you remove the obvious,
    that which is left must therefore be the truth -- Sherlock Holmes
    Short version:
    When I created a new lightroom catalog, and imported a single, standalone file, It worked fine. But when I imported to the new catalog, any photos from my existing catalog, it would fail.
    Turns out that I was doing something a bit out of the ordinary with the IPTC Copyright field. In order to make my copyright information look "different" when I would export a file.
    One would normally put in that field something like "© 2009 someone". I discovered a few months ago that I could make this field display as a multi line entry.
    ie.
    if you wanted to put XY into the copyright field, but wanted it to display as:
    X
    Y
    all you would have to do is to put a carrage return between the two characters. (hint ctl^enter). Now when you displayed the "copyright" in an output file, it will display
    vertically instead of all the characters in a horizontal line.
    After being frustrated by this for a couple of weeks, I simply started removing every option that I might have applied to photographs that I would import with Lightroom. One of the last ones was the "vertical" information I put in the copyright field in a Preset. (when you remove the obvious...).
    Funny thing is that no program really cares about the formatting of that field, or if it has multiple lines in the data, or special characters.......It even opens up just fine in Photoshop / Gimp / PSE / etc. with no problems.
    But, if you have multiple lines of data in the Copyright Field (and I suspect others as well),
    AND you want to open up the file from Lightroom in Photoshop, using the standard menu item of " Edit with Photoshop CS4", for some reason Photoshop will start, but never open the designated file. I would expect some parsing something just giving up after it encounters a CR.
    But.....All is well that ends well. Now I can quit obsessing, and move on to something else...
    Best,
    Jim

  • LR2.2 to edit in Photoshop CS4 yield lighter images in PS

    I notice a problem since upgrading to PS CS4 from PS CS3, that when I select Edit in PS CS4 from within LR 2.1, the image that opens in PS is noticeably lighter by about one stop. I get the same result if I edit as smart object or as a TIF. If I make no changes within PS but just save the TIF file and then go back to LR, the new TIF saved from within PS and the original CR2 (or DNG) file appear to be at the same exposure when viewed inside LR2.1. I was hoping that upgrading to LR2.2 would fix the problem, but it has not. It is exactly the same.
    I've checked all of my LR and PS settings and preferences and there is not additional processing that is being done when I edit in PS. It's really strange.
    My monitor, an Eizo ColorEdge CE240W, is properly calibrated. I'm running a MacPro 8 core with Leopard 10.5.6.
    I have exactly the same software and settings installed on my MacBookPro 15" but I do not have the problem there.
    I tried uninstalling PS-CS4, deleting PS and LR preferences and reinstalling PS-CS4 to no avail. I did not have this problem with previous versions of LR and PS.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • Lightroom 3's "edit in photoshop CS4" does not preserve "detail" values

    Hi all,
    I am giving lightroom 3 a try (finally...), but noticed that when I have an image to which I have applied "detail" adjustments to reduce luminescence and color noise, using "edit in Photoshop CS4" opens the image without the detail adjustments applied. I don't see the option to pick whether to edit "the image" or "the image with lightroom settings" anywhere, and I'm scratching my head trying to find an option in the preferences (both LR and Catalog prefs) that lets me pick "edit with lightroom settings applied".
    It's a bit useless this way =/
    Does anyone know how to make "edit in ..." for lightroom 3 always apply the image corrections to the edit copy?

    I had been looking for that option, turns out the only way to get it back was to reset all warning dialogs. After telling LR to render with lightroom, things look great again.
    Thanks!

  • Tracking Edit Original in CS4

    Hi All,
    How can we know if an image has been edited with 'Edit Original' option in CS4.
    In previous Indesign versions (before CS4), the UIDRef of the link used to change if the image is saved after editing. In CS4 it doesn't change.
    In previous version I was trapping the ActionID for Edit Original and checking the UIDRefs to see if the image is saved after editing.
    Is there any method for this in CS4. Or some link attribute that can be checked to know if the image is saved or not after editing.
    Regards,
    Jasmine

    I am developing a plugin for adobe InDesign CS4.
    From my plugin, when I select a link and right click on it, I am getting "Edit Original" and "Edit with" options.
    But the "Edit with" option doesn't list the applications.
    I am able to edit the link using "Edit Original".
    The code I mentioned is not able to get the list of applications in the appList array.
    currently I am doing the below in LinkResource Handler::CanEditResource().
    AppInfoList appList;
    UIDRef LinkSelectedInLayout = Utils<ILinksUIUtils>()->GetSingleLinkUIDRefSelectedInLayout();
    if(LinkSelectedInLayout.GetUID() != kInvalidUID)
    InterfacePtr<ILink> SelectedLink(LinkSelectedInLayout,UseDefaultIID());
    if(SelectedLink)
    //UIDRef linkResourceRef(::GetDataBase(SelectedLink),SelectedLink->GetResource ());
    Utils<ILinksUIUtils>()->GetEditOriginalEditorList(appList,SelectedLink );
    //Utils<ILinkUtils>()->GetEditorList(linkResourceRef,appList,kFalse);
    Any Guide will be a great help
    Thanks

  • After I use the Develop module in LR4 I edit in PS-CS4, now the develop changes do not show in CS4.

    After I use the Develop module in LR4 I edit in PS-CS4, now the develop module changes do not show in CS4.

    You need to send the file over to CS4 as a PSD (with Lightroom Adjustments checked)
    CS4 cannot interpret the newer processing version used by Lightroom 4

  • Version Set is not created when editing with Photoshop CS4?

    Last week I was working in PSE7 and opening files into PS CS4 for editing. I open the files by clicking the Open with link and choose Photoshop. I edited several dozen photos and when I closed them from PS CS4 Version Sets were created in PSE7 like they should be. At some point that stopped happening. Now when I do as before and open the files into PS CS4, edit them, and then close them the Version Set is not being created in PSE7. I look in the folder containing the files and the file has a new modified date but it still has the same file name instead of being saved with the - edited name as before. Does anyone know why the version sets are no longer being created when editing with PS CS4? I can edit the files with the PSE7 editor and the version sets are created as they should be. Thanks!

    Okay so tha there is no misunderstanding here is exactly what I'm doing. From the PSE7 Organizer I select a photo (file name Tetons & Jenny Lake 026.jpg) and click the Fix tab. I then click More Options and select Photoshop. The photo opens in into PS CS4. I make my edits click the x on the tab to close the image and I'm asked "Save changes to the Adobe Photoshop document "Tetons & Jenny Lake 026_edited-1.jpg" before closing?" I click Yes then click OK to save the image at maximum quality. I go back to the PSE 7 Organizer and there is no version set. I check the folder the original image was in and see the original file Tetons & Jenny Lake 026.jpg with a new modified date and time. I can even choose Save As from PS CS4 and it asks me if I want to overwrite Tetons & Jenny Lake 026_edited-1.jpg and I select Yes, but I get the exact same results. Thanks!

  • CS4 Custom Metadata Panels : "Generic" : Ability to display block of predefined text in panels ?

    I am in the process of converting a number of CS3 custom metadata panels to the Adobe CS4 Suite using the "Generic" panel included with the current SDK. After reading though the documentation on the "Generic" panel, it seems that there is no easy way to define a block of predefined, non-editable text (a legal disclaimer for example) within a CS4 "Generic" panel.
    Note that this is text that is not actually embedded into an image or editable, but rather a block of predefined text that simply displays within the panel itself.
    When creating CS3 custom panels, a predefined text block was easily displayed using a combination of the "width:", "height:" and "static_text:" parameters.
    Has anyone been able to replicate this using the CS4 "Generic" panel?
    Thanks in advance for your time and effort...

    James,
    Alternative: XMP FileInfo SDK page 40, the attribute description= displays static text as a mouse-over tooltip operation on a single field.
    This applies to custom XMP properties in a custom namespace. The standard in-the-box XMP properties description= cannot be modified via a custom .xml schema definition as far as I can determine. (I tried, and mine were ignored.)

  • How do I edit the "Person in photo" metadata in a single photo?

    This field does not appear in the side view of the metadata so I can't edit it. It does appear if I sync metadata but if I want to edit the data in just one photo this is not an option. Thanks for your help!

    'Person in Photo' is actually listed as 'Person Shown'. To get access to you need to be using the IPTC Extension metadata list (see screenshot)

  • "Edit in" Photoshop CS4 no longer working. Lightroom to Photoshop

    I just replaced my home desktop Win8 computer. I reinstalled all my software and for a brief period Lightroom (v. 5.7 with Camera Raw 8.7) was working with Photoshop CS4. Now, I use "Edit in" Photoshop and the Photoshop program will open, but it will not open my Lightroom selected photo.
    Yes, I have looked through the forums and tried reinstalling both programs. It still doesn't work.
    I am VERY frustrated with Adobe. Adobe doesn't seem to be providing an update that works, nor is it easy to contact the company for help. Someone please...?  Ron [email protected]

  • Editing Final Cut Pro X Metadata

    I have tried to solve this problem for hours without success.
    I have dozens of FCPX projects I have exported as .MOV files. I just realized that I have been failing to specify the Title, Author, Description, & Tag files when I export the files. (See picture of FCPX export window)
    Unfortunately, I have too many videos to re-export all of them from FPCX. As a result, I need to figure out a way to edit the Title, Author, Description, & Tag fields embedded in the files.
    At first, I thought the information was stored as ID3 Tag information. As a result, I imported the videos into iTunes and tried to edit the fields. Initially, it looked like it worked as the ID3tag information was updated within the file itself. (See picture of VLC Media Information window):
    However, when I played the video in QuickTime, the old Title, Author, Description, & Tag were still being used. I highlighted the old tag information in the QuickTime image below.
    This is particularly frustrating as the old Title information is displayed prominently on top of the QuickTime window. Moreover, when I went to Finder and used the "Get Info" command, the old tag data was still there as well. (See Finder window below)
    I did some research and it looks like this information is NOT ID3 tags but rather is Spotlight metadata stored within the file itself (i.e. the Spotlight data is not in the hidden .DS_Store file). I ran a mdls command in terminal on the file and this is what it gives me (I've bolded the important information):
    mdls MFT0076-480p.mov

    Does anyone have a clue how to edit the Title, Author, Description, & Tag fields after FCPX exports the movie? Any help would be very appricated.

    You don't open it in the timeline. You edit it into the timeline. Just like FCP7.
    I'm not at a machine now with FCP so I can't give you screenshots. Why don't you post screenshots of what you're seeing in the timeline?

  • Batch Editing in Photoshop CS4

    Hey guys, i want to batch edit image from aperture using CS4. Specifically I have an action set up that changes size an applies logo. My query is, how to I tell CS4 that i want to batch images from Aperture? Without exporting to desktop or whatever from Aperture ideally. I'm looking at doing about 300 images a batch. (In their own albums)
    Cheers
    Rowan

    I don't know that you can batch to CS4. It's usually a one-at-a-time edit.
    For batch applying a logo, using Aperture's watermarking functionality would be an easy way to do this, without having to use Photoshop.

  • Custom XMP panels don't show in Bridge CS4's Metadata palette

    I've got a CS4 custom XMP panel working (using the "Generic" panel in the SDK) but I can't get it to display in the metadata palette of Bridge CS4 (the thing normally bottom right in the default Bridge "essentials" view).
    In the old CS3 format, you could do this by adding an "fbname" attribute to fields of the custom panel. How do we now do this in the new SDK?
    The Bridge metadata palette is mentioned on page 25 of the SDK programmer's guide, but the example given is merely of Dublin Core keywords (i.e. dc:subject) so shows in the Bridge metadata palette by default already.

    Following on from this question, is it possible to build up a Metadata panel group of fields drawn from different namespaces? (by group I mean something like the IPTC Core label and arrow which expands into the IPTC fields).
    One would have a heading such as "My data", which when expanded shows x fields from one namespace #1 and y fields from namespace #2. I've tried to do this by leaving the namespace blank and hardcoding it and the prefix into the properties' name argument - eg http://ns.adobe.com/photoshop/1.0/photoshop:Urgency
    Hope this isn't a hijack!

  • Editing in Photoshop CS4 rotates image

    After making adjustments in Lightroom 3.2, if I then edit the image in Photoshop CS4, the image rotates slightly clockwise and affects any cropping and adjustments to the vertical I have already done in Lightroom. The rotation occurs as the image is opened in Photoshop so that when I return from Photoshop to Lightroom my image has changed (not counting those made in Photoshop). Why is this happening? I am working in Windows 7.

    Thanks, Dorin, for your response. That sounds like the right explanation. Would CS5 handle the perspective adjustments and lens corrections correctly?
    The files I am editing in Lightroom are pef (Pentax) or dng converted from pef by DxO. Right now I am right-clicking the image in Lightroom and selecting "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS4". I get the same result with Ctrl+E; but Ctrl+Alt+E does nothing for me. Nothing happens with the latter. That may be because I am already using Topaz's tlfusionexpress2 as Lightroom's secondary editor.
