Edit in PS from LR5

I am not able to open PS from LR using the Edit In Command. This is a new problem. I have a Mac 10.8.4 and have restarted the computer. I am not able to round trip to  NIK or Topaz. Any ideas?
Thanks,
John Thomas

Anything new other than LR5? New camera or anything that might not be in Camera Raw yet? Do you have a previous version of LR installed still? Does that work? Finally, are you getting an error or is nothing happening at all?

If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand, such as your platform (Mac or Win), exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop ("CS5" won't do for instance; we would need CS5 vers 12.0.2 or whatever) and of Bridge, machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, video card specs, what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far, what error message(s) you receive, if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them, etc., someone may be able to help you.
A screen shot could be very helpful too.

  • Please Help! How to save exact edits from LR5

    Good Afternoon All,
I have been doing many edits in LR5 and I am losing something along the way...this is what I have been doing....
The image is edited in LR5 (exposure, blacks, whites etc)
The image is edited in Photoshop (spot heal)...(copy with lightroom edits)
Edits made in Photoshop are saved back to lightroom (not sure saving method here?)
Final product is exported from LR5 to email (sRGB /JPEG)
The blacks in the image look VERY different once emailed from the Mac Computer.  When viewing on the IPAD, Laptop, Mobile devices these images dont look exactly the same prior to being sent via email.
    Any help much appreciated!

Hey sorry, I am coming back to the post and saying that it didn't work. I was exporting as sRGB...and now when I upload it to facebook or my website it is not uploading the same...
I thought that it worked because it was cropped small but when I enlarged it the picture looks distorted as if changes were made and the background looks faded. I used a black background for my pictures and you are able to see several creases in the background. I would like the background of the picture to be black as well as any types of changes that I make within ANY picture I want to be able to export it as well as be able to change it to any size
    this is becoming frustrated...

  • How do I change my "Edit In" preference from CC to CS6 when using LR5?

I have both programs but due to CC issues with Topaz and Nik plugin issues I prefer to Edit my photos from lightroom 5 in CS6.  The problem is that I don't see anywhere in preferences where I can change it.

The primary external editor is always the latest Photoshop version installed, whichever it may be. I know of no way to change that.
But you can set up CS6 as secondary editor in Preferences, with the limitations that follow from having the image rendered into Photoshop by Lightroom instead of ACR (no smart objects etc).

  • After upgrading to CC, I can't open a file in photoshop from LR5 interface.

Pre CC I could 'edit in' from LR5, but now, when I attempt to 'Edit in -> Photoshop CC' nothing comes across to Photoshop CC.
    Any ideas?

    Hi, I need -
OS 9's Finder uses File Type and Creator codes embedded in files to determine how the file should be handled - what program to use to open it, and how that program should process the file.
OSX uses filename extensions rather than File Type and Creator codes.
As a result, it is not uncommon for a file created in an OSX environment to be displayed as a generic unknown-type document when the machine is booted to OS 9; and for Finder to not know how to handle it when it is double-clicked.
If you know that a certain program in OS 9 should be able to open a file, try dropping that file onto the icon for that program (or on an alias to that program) - some programs are capable of trying to open a file done that way; others won't even try.
In most cases, a file created by an OSX app will not be openable by an OS 9 app - this is understandable, given that newer programs often use more advanced formats than older ones, even versions of the same program.
If you know that you will be transporting a file from OSX to OS 9, try saving it in a form accessible by OS 9 - many programs will offer a list of alternate file formats when you do a Save As of the file, or (in some cases) an Export of it.
Question: does the Internet connection (Internet Explorer vs. Safari play any role ?)
It certainly can. If Safari saves a file in a proprietary format, then IE will probably not be able to open it. However, a file saved in plain html should be openable by most any browser.
You might experiment with the settings in OS 9's File Exchange control panel, particularly the ones listed under PC Exchange. Adjusting some of these, or creating new linkages, may allow OS 9 to handle files which are openable by your OS 9 programs, but which are not identifiable by Finder.

  • Why can't I 'edit in PS5' from LR4, with an image taken with a Canon 6D?

I recently upgraded to a Canon 6D. My usual workflow is to import my files into LR 4 (4.3 I think) and do standard editing. I then choose 'edit in' CS5 from the LR menu and normally the image opens up in PShop for more adjustments. I make the adjustments then save and I get two versions of the image back in LR, one as it was and the one I just edited. Now when I do this, PShop opens, but my image doesn't appear. I can see some of PShop on the screen ie the menus and tool bar etc but mostly LR is seen. Have been told to download a DNG converter and update my camera raw software etc and I've tried a few things but nothing is working and I don't know what version of the updates I need etc and what to do. I don't understand computers at all so a basic step by step guide would be good! ...please can you help as I am getting really behind with all my editing :-(
Someone has told me that CS5 doesn't support the version of Camera Raw required to open 6D RAW files...please tell me there is something I can do without having to buy CS6 and LR5 which is what someone on chat on the Adobe website has just told me?
Many thanks, any help would be much appreciated.

Because you are using lightroom, whether cs5 supports that camera model or not is irrelevent, unless you open or place the raw file itself into photoshop.
Lightroom does not send a raw file, it sends a tiff or psd (Jpg is also an option if you use a secondary editor) file to photoshop. Odds are greater that lightroom 4 does not support your camera.
Adobe has a list of camera models that each version of lightroom and camera raw support. It will tell you whether you are up to date, need to do an update. If they are not an option then you can use the dng converter or purchase a newer version of lightroom.

  • Importing from LR5 to Premier Elements 13

Sorry, I did not see a forum for Premier 13, so I posted here. I figure if you know Premier Pro, you probably can answer this question.
When I import a still from LR5 with edits, it seems to be imported without the edits. How do I get the photo imported with edits?
Also, must I resize the photo for best quality in Premier Elements 13 before I import it???

    Hi Bill,
    Thanks for your reply.
I understand that edited data in LR5 is stored as a set of directions maintained in the catalog. Is this the "sidecar" you speak of?
All of my edited photos, whether edited with LR5, Photoshop, or any of my other plug in programs, look great. So, presumably the data is being properly stored in the catalog.
OK. So, you say that PrE won't see this data. I understand, although it makes no sense as these are Adobe products, and should work seamlessly. Be that as it may, I need to get edited photos into PrE.
When I right click on the photo and choose export, there is no option to "Export to PrE". I'm not even sure you are saying I should EXPORT photos to PrE. I thought I IMPORT photos via the Organizer, which is what I am doing. And, as you said, PrE is not "seeing" my edits.
Also, still getting the black bars on right and left side. I will look over what ATR sent, and see if that resolves any issues.
    Thanks.
    Steven
"Is this the "sidecar" you speak of?"
No.  Lightroom normally saves all the work you do in what Adobe calls a "catalog" file.  On a PC it ends in ".lrcat".  The work pattern for photographers that do not use Lightroom, use Photoshop instead and elect to use RAW formats end up processing their files through Adobe Camera Raw or "ACR".  In that case, the adjustments are not saved in the original file, but a "sidecar" file of the same filename, but with the extension of ".xmp".  For some, like a pro that is sending a RAW image file through the internet to a client, the pro's work will go with it in the .xmp file.  To make it work a little better for some, Lightroom can make use of the .xmp file.
"All of my edited photos, whether edited with LR5, Photoshop, or any of my other plug in programs, look great. So, presumably the data is being properly stored in the catalog."
Of course they look good.  In Photoshop, you can make your changes, including plug-in changes, and they will disappear if you don't do a "Save" or "Save as..."  If you start in Lightroom and want to edit in Photoshop (with plug-ins) you have choices in the "Edit in" dialog for working on copies or originals.  Most don't like altering their originals so usually pick "Edit copy with Lightroom adjustments".   When you end the Photoshop and Lightroom work, if set up right, it comes back to Lightroom when you Save and exit in Photoshop.  It should be the third iteration:  Orginial, copy to Photoshop and image back from Photoshop.
"Be that as it may, I need to get edited photos into PrE."
I won't defend or explain Adobe's ideas of how things should work, but there is no "Export to.." or "Edit in.." process for directly going to any video editor, including PrE.  The logic is different for video editing.  But there are several ways getting still photos to PrE.  Once you do all your work in Photoshop, plug-ins and Lightroom, the finished product is saved somewhere where you put it.  If the image has extra Lightroom work, you have to "Export" a final/finished product.  There is no "Save" in Lightroom.   Skip Organizer and go direct to PrE and follow the "Add Media > From Files or Folders" sequence.  I do it in batches with copies for speed and convenience.  I can explain that more if you want.
"Also, still getting the black bars on right and left side"
That is a function of mismatch between what cameras, TVs and video project think make the perfect rectangle.  Our expectation now is that TV's are widescreen in a ratio of 1920x1080 or 16x9.  To get your your stills to match, it has to be cropped to that ratio.  Re-sizing is a different process where an image of a few thousand pixels up and down can be reduced to fewer pixels.  It can be used in ways to re-size to a ratio that fits, but it is not the same as having control in cropping.   I find it better to do the cropping with the Crop tool in the Lightroom Develop module and I ignore re-sizing.   I often go a step further and make sure my camera is set to take photos at 16x9.
I'm going to be away from this until much later, maybe tomorrow.  If you want to continue with the Lightroom to PrE flow, it is what I do all the time for both photos and videos.  I use Photshop Elements, Topaz and Nik plug-ins.  It is a delightful system.  My usual output is for Vimeo and I can show you some examples.  I've worked out a pattern where everything starts in Lightroom and works through PrE.
The next step for me would be to understand what you intend to deliver your project to.  A TV, YouTube, DVD, iPad or what?  Then perhaps we can get a project set up that will accommodate that, fill it with photos and get something done.

  • EXPORTING FILES FROM LR5

Using Win7 64-bit O/S.  My ususal procedure from LR4 after editing is to export to Elements 9 catalog using the Cntl-Shift-E commmand.  I rename the file as it suits me then export to my hard drive location by pressing "Export".  I then go to PSE and get the message "New files have been found.  Do you want to import?" Clicking yes adds the file to my Library.  After installing LR5, I can't import edited files from LR5 OR Photohop (CS5).  Similar experiences?  Work arounds?

I can't import edited files from LR5 OR Photohop (CS5).
Why not? What happens when you try? Is there an error message?
In my opinion there there is a work around as designed by Adobe:
Use LR5 as your "Organizer" (not PSE), and use PSE as an auxiliary editor. The process is much smoother than what you describe, and your problem goes away. Adobe designed Lightroom to work smoothly with the PSE Editor; but there is no design to allow Lightroom to work smoothly with the PSE Organizer.

  • Best file format to send from LR5 to PSE10

What is the best file format to send from LR5 to PSE10 - PSD, TIFF or JPEG? I want to be able to post the picture on Flickr after editing.

I always find PSD to be the most versatile for preserving layers but others choose the much larger tiff files. PSD produces a good master file from which any number of jpegs can be ex[ported in future.
You need to start the round trip from LR as follows and use the save command (Ctrl+S) not save as:
    1) Ctrl+E in the Library to export selected image with develop settings (I choose PSD)
    2) Edit in Photoshop; then Ctrl+S to replace (overwrite) Lightroom export copy
    3) Ctrl+W to close in Photoshop and update Lightroom thumbnail.

  • Suddenly... I can't get my DNG files to open from LR5 to CS6.  What to do?

I am running Windows 8.  As of this morning, I can't get my files to open for external editing from LR5 to CS6.  No extenal editing at all actually.  Have checked forums and it's not addressed.

You need Lightroom 5.3 or newer in order to work with the NEF files. You can convert your files to DNG and use them with what you have now. Your choice. In order to have Lightroom 5.3 (might as well go to 5.7) you will have to purchase an upgrade.

  • How can I edit my website from another computer? and how can I create a new website next to the one, I have already? Can anyone help, please?

How can I edit my website from another computer? and how can I create a new website next to the one, I already have? Can anyone help, please?

Move the domain.sites file from one computer to the other.
The file is located under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.  Move this file to the same location on the other computer and double click and iWeb will open it.  Remember, it is your User Library that you want and not your System Library, as you will not find iWeb there.
Just create a new site on the same domain file and it will appear below the other site.  If you want them side by side then duplicate your domain file and have one site per a domain file and they can then be side by side.

  • I'd like to edit my site from iWeb on two computers, is this possible?

I'd like to edit my site from iWeb on two computers, is this possible?
I started creating my site on a PB 15", but when I'm home I like the speed of my iMac and I'd like to continue the editing process on my iMac but I can't find the files that iWeb saves.
I'd ideally like to save my site on my 30gig iPod using it as a hard drive between both. I would love for this to happen but I can't find the files saved by iWeb. Is this even possible?
I've even tried linking my PB to my iMac via firewire as a hard drive. No Luck.
    Please Help . . .

I think iWeb only recognizes the 'domain.sites' file so while you can set up more than one site, they are in the same project.
Of course, the workround is to move the domain.sites file out of the default location, which them makes iWeb create a new one. You can then work on any number of projects, only moving the correct file into the default location for work on each one. Not elegant by any means, but until someone suggests a better way (or Apple produce a more flexible version of the software) it works fine that way.

  • Can you edit a person from one photo and add them to another photo?

Can you edit a person out of one photo and add them to another photo?  Like if you need the head shot from one photo to replace closed eyes in the other photo?  Thanks.

Thank you very much!  Does this require software to be purchased?  I'm new to Photoshop.

Subject: Re: Can you edit a person from one photo and add them to another photo?
    Welcome to the forum.
Yes, this is done often. You will need to create a Mask of that person, to separate them from the background of the original Image.
I like to do this with a Layer Mask, as it offers control, and really does not alter the Image, so you can go back and make changes.
Let's say that you have Image 01 w/ the head of your subject, and want to place it into Image 02. In Image 01, make a rough Selection. I would include a bit of extra background, as we will take care of that in a moment. With that Selection active, Copy the head shot. Go to Image 02, and Paste it. It will Paste in its own Layer. Ctrl+T (Free Transform) can be used to Scale and also position that Layer with the head. Once you have that Scaled and positioned about where you want it, create a Layer Mask. In QuickMask Mode, just paint in the additional Mask to remove all traces of the background that came in with the head shot. As you can paint OUT, and also paint IN the Mask, you can work on this, as many times as you wish - even next year.
For getting that Layer Mask looking good, work slowly, also see this http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/photoshop/l/blrbps_5agirl.htm.
I've got another tutorial, that addresses the hair area, and will post that, when I find my bookmark.
    Good luck,

  • Not able to edit Service Contract from WEBUI beacause of error

    Hi,
I am trying to edit Service Contract from WEB UI. But, when ever I say edit, it is giving error saying
"Document is being distributed. Changes are not possible".
Can you please let me know, why such error comes..and how to rectify that.
    Thanks,
    Sandeep

    Hi Sandeep,
This happens when the document is distributed to ERP Systems. There are certain Item Categories that are sent to ERP System and only once the confirmations comes from those system you can further process those document.
You won't find any errors there.
You can check the BDOC Entries and then can find the target system where the document was distributed. And then logon onto that system and release that document.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Samantak.
