Edit info for songs

When I try to edit info on itunes 7.5, the info is "greyed" and doesn't let me make changes. Any suggestions?

You neeed to be logged in as an adminstrator.
Right click on your iTunes Music folder and slect properties, the the security tab.
You should see a list of users names. Is Your user name on it? If so select it and you should see your permissions. If not, you can add your username.
You need to have full control for your user name.
There is more on setting permissions on the following page, it is for XP, but Vista is similar:

  • Get info for songs after importing?

Is there any way I can get info for songs in my library after I import them? I have a data CD that I would like to import and have iTunes get all of the information for me. Is this possile? Also if not is there anyway to check to make sure it got every songs, or to see what songs it couldn't get info for? I am using Windows.

    Are these MP3/AAC files?
They should have the info in the ID3 tags already.
If the songs were RIPped using iTunes, select the Album, then Advanced - Get CD track names.

  • Can't enter/change info for songs...

I can change the info for some of my songs but not for most of them. Why is this?

Check that the problem files are not read only.
If they are MP3s, there can sometime be problems with tag versions. Try selecting a track and right click on it. Select Convert ID3 tags. Try converting to none. It might be as well to experiment with a copy.
Otherwise check the permissions on your music folder, but if this was a problem I would expect everything to be affected.
Your account needs full control of any music folder.

Personally, I suggest you don't put a credit card in your iTunes account until you are actually going to make a purchase. Then there's no chance of anyone using it or your iTunes account for purchases.
To remove the old card  number, edit the account (as mentioned in the previous posts above) and select None.

  • Ability to Edit info for multiple Songs seems missing in iTunes 12

From a review of this forum, it appears that iTunes 12 no longer permits editing of certain fields for multiple songs.
Formerly, one could select any group of songs and, via using Get Info, edit virtually any field for all songs at the same time.
In iTunes 12 this ability seems missing for certain fields.
Am I missing something or is this highly useful feature now gone?
I can't seem to get a clear picture of this from current forum posts.
    Thanks for any comments.

    marked as solving problem.
did not mean to do that as use of 3rd party scripts should not be necessary for such a core function in itunes
apple need to restore that basic feature. I will submit a request to them directly.

  • How to revert edited info for a purchased song to the original info it came with?

I had purchased some songs from the iTunes Store and downloaded them to the computer, where I then edited their song info/metadata (e.g., artist name, composer, etc.). I now want to revert the song info/metadata to whatever they were before the editing (i.e., the song info/metadata as stored at the iTunes Store). Can I do that, and if so, how? Thanks.

welcome to the mac side, im new also
in windows we would right click and select 'properties' right?
on apple you simply hold control 'ctrl' and then click on the folder you want, the control and click is macs equivanlent to windows' right click
after you've 'ctrl' and clicked, select 'get info', get used to this 'get info' function as you'll probably use it alot, like i said, its like selecting 'properties' on windows
another way of doing the control>click is clicking once on an item so that it is highlighted and then selecting 'file' at the top of your screen and then 'get info' too
to view all pics in a slideshow yo simply highlight each one, or you can select multiple items by holding down the command key (⌘) then single clicking each pic you want to view, this selects it and then double clicking any one of them when they are all highlighted, in mac you will use the 'preivew' application which is an image viewer, sort of the replacement for your old 'windows fax and image viewer' on windows
    hope that helps

  • Editing info for multiple files in Itunes, not working

Ok, first off, I'm a BRAND NEW Mac user and having a few problems crossing over. Here's the deal...
I've got an external hard drive with about 200 Gigs of music all in separate folders. I'm loading all my songs into Itunes, but keeping them copied only to my external drive...no problem.
However, some of the songs in Itunes are showing up with no artist and/or album names because this info is not in the ID3 tags (im assuming) of the mp3s.
When I goto "get info" and try to manually type in the artist name/album name and click "ok"...NOTHING CHANGES. They still show up in the list blank. Why aren't my edits to the files changing? How can I fix this?
Thanks in advance for all your help everyone!

Does it matter that this drive used to be used only on my windows machine?
    Yes it does.
Post over here and ask about it -> http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1225
See if it is formatted FAT32 or NTFS and include that info.

  • Editing info for podcast

    Podcast location: http://www.radio4all.net/responder.php/podcast/podcast.xml?series=The+Sunrise+Oc ean+Bender
    In iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/series-podcast-sunrise-ocean/id585890686
My podcast was recently accepted onto iTunes, but there is no description of the show, author, artwork, etc…When I submitted the podcast for review I wasn't given the option of the adding any info, artwork, etc…I'd like a decscritpion of the show to show in iTunes, the radio station I'm at, etc…the usual. Sorry to be a  dolt, but can I edit/add that information…?…
Thanks in advance for time, and patience…

Your feed doesn't have any of the 'itunes:...' tags which are necessary to carry the artwork, author and so on; nor the xmlns 'declaration' in the second line:
    <rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0">
which is necessary for iTunes to be able to read these tags.
This page includes a sample basic feed so that you can see what one should look like:

  • Is there a fast way to find track info for songs in iTunes?

    Hi:
The songs in my library don't have any info in the fields, and now I'm in the process of downloading artwork and adding album names and track numbers to all the songs in my library. I'm just wondering if there's an addon or plug-in available that will do this automatically for me? Or do I need to type in the track numbers one by one?
    Thanks in advance!
    J

Actually, I have nearly 1,000 CDs, which I ripped them from. Unfortunately, I got into the habit of deleting the tags when I added the files to my iTunes library ...

  • Editing info for photos

I'm pretty confused here and hope someone can help me. Is there a way to batch change the title (no the whole event, just the photos, the title found on the back of the photo when I click the i) and the description? When I right click for batch change or select photos>batch change after selecting all the pics I want to change and then type in the info, it does not change anything. What am I doing wrong? It seems to work for doing locations/places. Any help is much appreciated.
    Steve

Well, I guess a figured it out and I feel pretty sheepish. I should have undone the selected pics, then the info added shows up. Just doesn't show until after I get out of the section....

  • Modifying field info for songs -

Several old disks and some more obscure disks that i've ripped to my iTunes don't contain some info that automatically uploads, such as the date, track numbers and titles. Many of these fields allow you to single click the field to modify the info but the 'year' and the 'track number' won't allow this. Does anyone know how to access these properties, maybe directly at the file within my Explore?

    found it!

  • Data base for song info?

Is there a data base or site that has info for song tags? In particular I want the date released for all my songs.
    Thanks for any help?

I am in the UK and I have been searching for years for such a site, or for this particular information. Gracenote DB is no help at all for this I'm afraid. Unfortunately, record release dates - especially for older songs, is elusive. I have done the following research :
    1. In the UK we are lucky enough to have the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles : this gives the chart entry date for all Top 75 hits going back decades. For 98% of releases this will give an approximate indication (I subtract two weeks to allow for radio play).
    2. The music papers always used to list the single releases for the week, but this needs a lot of time and research to uncover.
    3. For non-chart records, you could try Googling the record's catalogue number, then keep going forward & back one number at a time until you find a release that charted, then work it out from that.
I have nagged record companies to produce a book of release date information, but their response always is "who'd pay for it?"
I think this is one tag you are going to have to research on your own. Sorry

  • HT3814 Why does iTunes on my MacBook Pro not remember/save edited info about CDs? It does on my G4.

I haven't used iTunes in awhile to play CDs. Lately though it is not remembering CD info I put into iTunes. I have been using iTunes since the late 90s. I have always been able to edit info for ANY CD I play on iTunes and that computer would remember that info. Lately my MacBook Pro isn't remembering this info. I am able to edit CDs on my G4 Powerbok and it is remembering the info. (The G4 is using 10.4.11 and iTunes 9.2.1 (5). I am using 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.6.1 (7) on the MBP.) This used to work on the MBP but I haven't dealt with CDs in 6 months or so so I don't know more closley when this behavior changed.)
I've had a go-rounds with Apple Care. Some say I have to import each track for iTunes to remember any edits on that track. I tried that today and that appears to be how things work now. That was not the case up until now. Has iTunes changed how it works?
I realize that iTunes will read file names on the CD if they are burned into the CD. I used Toast for some recent CDs I burned on the MBP awhile ago and voila, those files names are appearing whern I pop the CD in. I cannot edit them so that iTunes remembers them though unless I import whatever track I wanted to edit the info from. OK. That's a step backwards but OK. (I realize I am not editing the info on the CD itself. Once a CD is burned that's impossible, I would only be editing the info that iTunes has about it...) Most of the CDs I have burned do not have track titles as file names.
I know about the CD Info.cidb file. That is where info that I add manually (and info that Gracenote adds, which I also can edit...) gets saved. In the past I could edit ANY CD, regardless of where it came from, and that info would be saved in that file. That is not happening now.
I have moved the CD Info.cidb file to my desktop and edited some info. ITunes is NOT creating a new CD Info.cidb file.
So, has anything changed with iTunes or is there something else going on here? It could be a third-party app or an OS problem.
    Thanks for any help.
    Cheers,
    John L
PS Apple Care is looking into this some more and will call me back next Thursday if not before then. My fingers are crossed that will have some info that is helpful. If I now have to import a track so that I can edit it (and save that info) on a CD, well, so be it but it doesn't seem to be a step forward...
PPS For some reason, Apple put this under the iTunes Store. I would have put it under just iTunes. I forget the page where I asked the title of this question (which has since been edited). It then brought me to this particular forum. I would have moved it if I could...

Basically anything not purchased from iTunes that is on my iPhone 6 will not sync over to my MacBook. I have tried to just manually back it up but only the purchased music will sync over to iTunes.

Ah yes school boy error there out of frustration and discontent..
My issue is with music/apps/films etc not downloading from iTunes / App Store.
They initially fail and message is displayed stating unable to download / purchase at this time, yet if I retry it says I've already purchased (?) or alternatively I go to the purchased section and there they are waiting with the cloud symbol..
However some items get frozen in the download window and cannot be retried or deleted. Message appears stating to tap to retry, but even if you stole every bath and sink in the uk you'd still not have enough taps.
I post here as the iTunes guys are useless in there 'help' and have only advised posting here or phoning apple, at my expense, to explain a problem that could be rectified by forwarding my original email to a techie. However the tech team apparently don't have an email address as they're from ye olde Middle Ages..!
    Anyways I digress.
So I tried sync to pc, but instead of showing the file as ready to listen/use/view, the iCloud symbol shows and I'm back to square one as the item is unable to download..
At frustration station waiting for a train from pain...
All my software is up to date, and had all worked fine prior to the last big iOS update that resulted in all the changes in display and dismay.
