Hi Nazih,
First I would like you to ask you two things:
1. Make use of the search here on SDN to find a solution to your problem. A similar question was actually asked yesterday!
2. Please be more generous to the ones that answer your question. Looking through your old threads I barely see the use of any stars.
Now to you question. As mentioned before I just summarized yesterday a list of notes that should help find a solution to problems with local editing, and now I just added this list to the Wiki for others to make additions:
https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/KMC/HowtotroubleshootproblemswithLocalEditing
Hope it will be helpful for you,
Robert

Thanks for the response; I have checked authorizations and user is authorised to access all the existing reports in BW. Checks were successful.
What might be the reason then?

  • Workbook: Document store operation failed due to missing authorization

    Hello authorizer gurus,
    I have got 3.5.
    I have transported.
I try to open a workbook.
I am getting a Error Message:
Document store operation failed due to missing authorization
Newly saved Queries as workbook can be openend.
    What's wrong ?
    Thank You

    Martin,
To get a detailed message about the error (including which authorization objects the user needs to have to be able to perform the action that caused the error) use ST22. It sounds like they are missing the Open authorization for workbooks.
    Cheers,

  • Document "Check In" fails

    Hi All,
    I need your help.
My use case is to edit a document locally which fails.
    In detail:
After pressing Edit locally the file opens in the right application.
Then I change some entries in the document, save it and want to check in the doc.
After a while the checkin fails and I get the error message:
"A communication error occurred. "QAlerts.xls" could not be uploaded"
I must say its not an typically document, its an Excel file with more than 50 MB.
In the error log you can read about timeout.
So checked the configuration for example the Http Provider Service, but in my mind all looks good.
Im glad for any other ideas.
    Many thanks

  • "Operation Failed" Messsage While editing documents locally

    Hi,
I am getting a "Operation Failed" Message while i try to edit a document locally. What could be the possible problem?
    Regards
    Nithya

    Hello Nithya,
We have had the same problems .We have a lock down desktop concept which means that the some .dll files(for activex to work) required for editing are not always registered/allowed to run.
You could refer to note 755581
I have the same problem wherein employees are not allowed to change the settings there are two solutions to it.Iam speaking to my network guys to get this sorted we have tested this on a remote client and it works after registering two .dll files.
1)Use applet version.(But needs JRE installed on all client machines).
2)Speak to your network administrator and get this two .dll files registered.
or you can check with browser settings and make those changes. You can use some scripts which registers when they login.
I would like to add that when i use domain adminstrator user account i get a pop up to install the activex.
I am thank full to the sdn community who helped me to narrow down on this front.
Should you need any details please feel free to post back.

    Hi Mayank,
check ActiveX is there in local pc or not?
    Configuring Local Editing
In the KM standard configuration, ActiveX is used for local editing, but you can
use a Java applet instead by modifying the configuration for local editing. There
are two parameters that can be configured, which can be found by choosing System
Administration u2192 System Configuration u2192 Knowledge Management u2192 Content
Management u2192 Utilities u2192 Editing u2192 Local Editing.
The Active Component parameter specifies the component used for local editing,
that is, a Java applet or ActiveX. The Java applet requires the installation of a Java
plug-in and Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4 on the client PC. This component
can be used for Internet Explorer and Mozilla. The ActiveX component requires
    Internet Explorer.
Note: There is no need for additional installation, but certain settings need
to be made to the users’ browsers. The necessary settings are listed in
the SAP NetWeaver ’04 Online Documentation under SAP NetWeaver u2192
Information Integration u2192 Knowledge Managementu2192 Content Management
Configuration u2192 Utilities u2192 Online & Local Editing.
If the Java applet option is used, the Java Runtime Version parameter needs to be
configured to specify the version; if HTTPS is required, version 1.4 is recommended.

  • KM Document: edit locally - error occured "Operation Failed"

    Hi everyone!
I am runnig SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.0 with MS Internet Explorer 7.0.
I am trying to edit documents locally from the KM. Unfortunately it doesn´t work. Error occured "Operation Failed".
I think all ActivX settings in the web browser are corecctly configured. I don´t think that there are problems with permissions of the document because it doesn´t work with personal documents too.
Could the problem depend on MIME Type settings?
What can i do to solve the problem?
Looking forward for your helb and answers
    Dominik

    Hi Dominik,
Open the Config tool and check if you this java parameters set for each server node:
    -Djava.io.tmpdir=
if not, create a directory and add this parameters to each server node .
After that, you should restart the J2ee server.
    Hope this help.
    Best regards,

I have seen similar threads that suggest this is a known issue with this version of Acrobat but I would like conformation from Adobe that this is a known issue and whether it is fixed in a newer version?
    Adobe Acrobat version 10.1.13
    SharePoint 2010

    Hi quodd,,
We are sorry for the issue being faced by you. I need some information from you so that I take further steps:
    1. Which Adobe product are you using Acrobat or Adobe reader- what is the complete version?
    2. How are you opening and saving the PDF, the exact workflow?
Are you doing it from within Adobe Reader/Acrobat application or opening it from browser, doing changes and saving it using browser itself.
    3. Can you try to save a PDF to library with Custom template and managed metadata columns using browser directly.
    4. Please verify that columns name do not contain spaces or some other special characters.
Can you try to save PDF to library with Custom template and just a single managed metadata column  with a simple name
    Thanks,

At the same time, we are able to edit any notepad files (*.txt). If we add the URL to trusted sites, then everything is working fine, but we need it to work even without adding them to trusted sites. Please suggest a solution.
PS: We access the site through VPN and we use FQDN in the URL.
We are able to open the file, but we face this issue only when Editing Locally

I also did not install the html web server yet. Is this mandatory? Is this error related with this?

  • Editing Contacts via keypad causes OPERATION FAILE...

Initially I entered info for approximately 60 contacts into my new Nokia 6131 phone memory using the phone keypad. Everything worked fine. Then I discovered the CONTACTS application in Nokia PC Suite software was a lot easier to use for data input, so I started to use that application via my PC to edit my contacts.
Now, when I try to edit a contact using the phone keypad, I regularly get the OPERATION FAILED error, which prevents saving the revised contact information. This is EXTREMELY frustrating, because there is no indication of a cause for the error. 95 percent of the memory in my phone is free, so problem is not related to memory capacity. I can delete certain parts of contact info, like an extra phone number, or an image, and that seems to work without generating the error, but you cannot add or modify anything. I can only reliably edit my contacts using PC suite and then synchronizing the changes. I have updated PC suite and the phone firmware to the latest available versions, but that didn't help. DOES anyone know what causes this OPERATION FAILED error?

    Thank you miksu,
Yes, my phone UI is idle when I try to browse/edit contacts. Today, I thought I'd try resetting factory settings and see if that cleared the problem. So I backed up the phone, reset factory settings and tried to restore from the backup - disaster, it would not restore contacts at all and I was left with a phone minus 400+ contacts! I tried backups that I had previously restored successfully from - still no go.
So I rebuild the contacts from my Outlook, compared it manually with what I had on my old 6230 (fortunately I still have the phone with contacts intact), made updates manually and all is now OK. The OPERATION FAILED does not appear on the phone and I can browse/edit my contacts on the PC.
Although everything is fine now, I will use PC Suite with caution. Perhaps my understanding of the product is not good enough, but I am not keen on risking it.

  • EditLocally giving Operation failed Exception

    Hi All,
When i am using edit locally in the context to edit any Microsoft doucments, excel, ppt locally.
I am getting the Operation failed exception.
    What could be the reason?
Anyone have idea on the above problem.
    Thanks
    Prasad

    Hi,
There are two components for editing documents that require a PC application.
    Active Component
    Java Runtime Version
    Have you checked them ?
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/a6/181b09bcc7fe4389c8c17d2ad849cc/frameset.htm
In the KM standard configuration, ActiveX is used for local editing. If you want to the applet instead, you have to modify the configuration for local editing. You find the configuration under Content Management ® Utilities ® Editing ® Local Editing.
Settings in the browser when using ActiveX
If you are using ActiveX, certain settings need to be made for the users' browsers.
Call up the security settings for the browser: Choose Tools ® Internet Options ® Security ® Custom Level in the menu bar. Make the following settings:
Download signed ActiveX controls = Enable
Download unsigned ActiveX controls = Disable
Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe = Disable
Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins = Enable
Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting = Enable
    Patricio.
