Edit lightroom image in CS5
When I edited a RAW image firstly in Lightroom 5 then wished to edit it further in CS5, the changes I made in Lightroom would transfer through into CS5. Now all I get in CS5 is the form of the original Raw file without the changes made in Lightroom.
Have a read of this to see if it explains your issue (and how to resolve it):

Can't edit LR3 image in CS5 32bit
Hi, I recently got a new PC and now can't open images in CS5 32bit from LR3. I used to launch CS% then right mouse click image and "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS5" but now CS5 launches but no image appears and i get an error message saying The Lightroom catalog named.... cannot be opeened because another appliation already has it opened Quit the other copy of LR before trying to launch" - but there nothing else open.
Another message I get is:
If I don't open CS5 32 bit first and just ight mouse click image and "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS5" the image opens normally in 64bit CS5 but I can't apply my Nik filters from the 64 bit version. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling LR3 and CS5 without fixing the problem.

Sudden loss of ability to edit LR5 images in CS5
I have no idea what has happened today, but suddenly I can't edit my LR5 images in CS5. I've never had this issue before. When I select the LR5 option to edit in CS5, CS 5 launches and then just sits there. No image appears in CS5 and I never see the dialogue box from LR asking me if I want to edit the original or a copy with LR adjustments. Really scratching my head on this one. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have a deadline approaching. Running on a 6 year old MacBook Pro. I've tried closing and reopening the programs as well as a hard reset. To my knowledge, I have not done anything to change any preferences.
Update - dug into all of my CS 5 preferences and found it was running in 32 bit mode. I disabled this and the problem went away. Not sure why this worked, but it did.In researching the issue I read that to edit in raw you need a camera model requirement of at least 7.3 which only works with CS6.
That is correct. Your camera was first supported by Camera Raw 7.3. Camera Raw 7.3 will not work with CS5. You need CS6 or CC.
Being new to all this I see that my options are to upgrade to CS6 or convert by using DNG converter and paying a monthly fee. Two things I know nothing about and don't know which is would be more beneficial.
I'd appreciate any advise on which route to go and how upgrade and what it may cost.
It all depends on your preferred workflow and your budget.
Using the DNG converter is free. There is no monthly fee. You use the converter to convert all Raw files from the EOS 6D to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5. That's an extra step every time - every photo. Some people don't like the extra step. Others don't mind.
Camera raw, DNG | Adobe Photoshop CC
Or you can upgrade to CS6 (non-Cloud) and pay the upgrade fee
Creative Suite 6
Or join the Cloud and pay the monthly fee
Or join the Photoshop Photography Program (US9.99/month) and get PS CC+LR -
Edit Lightroom images in Photoshop - problem
Hi,
I have recently started to use lightroom to eidt my images. When i go to edit with an image lightroom adjustments from lightroom 3 into photoshop cs4 it won't allow me to save it as a jpeg from photoshop. I understand that i can change it from 16bit to 8 bit and it will then save as a jpeg but the when i send the prints to a lab (a few different ones i have tried) the images come back dull and flat. The images look fine on my screen.
Any ideas??
CheersHi Geoff,
Thanks for your reply. I chnaged the colour spce to sRGB and still it has made no difference - won't let me save as a Jpeg. I might chane it 8bit and get a test print done to see if it makes a difference. Thanks for your help. -

Is there any way to edit Lightroom 3.0 images in Photoshop Cs5 ACR? If I choose Edit in Photoshop the image goes directly to photoshop and bypasses ACR. I have tried creating an ACR option in Preferences but cant find the ACR file. Can anyone help?
No...and there is no reason to do so. Lightroom and Camera Raw share the exact same processing pipeline–assuming you are using the same rev version. The only way to take a raw image into Photoshop and use the Camera Raw dlog is to open as a Smart Object which will give you the SO version of Camera Raw inside the Photoshop document.

After importing an image from cs5 back into lightroom, lightroom is making the image darker
Lightroom is making my images darker after i edit them in photoshop cs5 and I dont know why. When i open the image back into photoshop it looks fine. Even when i save it as a jpeg lightroom is making the image darker. When i imported the raw image into lightroom before i edited into photoshop it looked fine. Is there a way to fix lightroom?
See screen shot:
Click on the two small triangles and under <Lightroom General Presets> select <Zeroed>. Sorry, it seems that the option <None> is not available anymore in Lr 4.3. But <Zeroed> has the same effect.
Alternatively, in the Develop Module, bottom right, just above the film strip click on <Reset>. See screen shot: -
Opening images in CS5 from Lightroom 4
Hi,
Can someone explain why, when I edit an image from Lightroom in CS5 ( or other plugins ), that when I save it and go back to Lightroom, the edited image is not there.
The original is there but not the edited version. It will say 2 x 2 for example, so I know the edited version is there somewhere, but I cannot see it in the filmstrip.
The only way I can see the edited image is if I close Lightroom down and restart it. Then it appears next to the original. Obviously that is not ideal.
I would appreciate any help, I hope its just a setting somewhere.
Thanks,
Dave.Have you tried resetting your warnings in the preferences dialog?

I have just upgraded to Lightroom 4.3 and now find I cannot edit images in Photoshop CS5.
Shortcut does not work nor going to - edit in photoshop.
Photoshop seem to not be linking as it is not highlighted when I click on it.
I've tried reinstalling 4.3 but still cannot edit/send image files to PhotoshopLr 4.3 should have found CS5 as external editor.
First make sure that no dialog is suppressed: Go >edit >Preferences >General tab and click on <Reset all Warning dialogs>.
See screen shot:
Then try to set up CS5 as "Additional external editor" in >Edit >Preferences >External Editing tab.
Choose an external editor
You can designate an application to be used as an external editor in the External Editing preferences dialog box. After you choose an application, you can always use Preferences to change to a different application.
In the External Editing preferences, click Choose in the Additional External Editor area.
See screen shot:
2. Navigate to and select the application to use, and then click Open (Windows) or Choose (Mac OS).
Note: You can also select an external editor by choosing Photo > Edit In Other Application from the Library or Develop module. You'll be prompted to navigate to and select the application to use. After you choose an external editor, the name of the application appears as Edit In [Name of Application] in the Photo menu.
If this doesn't help you have to bite the bullet and follow Adobe's advice on this problem. See here:

Why do I loose lens perspective adjustments made in Lightroom when I open the image in CS5
Question as title above
Probably because you are opening the image into CS5 via a version of Adobe Camera Raw which does not provide the same support or use all the same parameters and settings, as your Lightroom does. For example, if you have used Upright, that is something that only the later ACR versions understand, and in order to use those versions, you would need a newer version of Photoshop.
In such cases, you are better off having LR render the conversion and LR settings into a file (TIFF or PSD) that is already saved to disk in that format, before PS sees it.
That way, PS has no need to involve your ACR at all, or to lay itself open to potential incompatibilities there. It only has to understand the completely standard pixel data inside the PSD / TIFF.
You will at some point have been given a LR warning dialog about ACR version incompatibility, offering the choices "Render in LR" / "Open anyway". If you have clicked "always do this" after selecting "open anyway", you will no longer be getting this warning. You can re-instate it using LR Settings / "Reset all Warning Dialogs". Then by giving the response "Render in LR" instead, you will get a full and complete implementation of all of your LR adjustments, into Photoshop, from the standard Edit in PS feature.
That arrives in PS as an already-saved and already-named file; you just need to Save (not Save As) when you are finished there.
Another approach, is to set up an additional named external editing "preset" in the LR Settings / External Editing tab, referring to your Photoshop program file, with your choice of file type, bit depth, colourspace (which can vary from the ones configured for your main "Edit in PS" option). This name becomes a new entry in the "Edit In..." menu. Using that always carries out a "Render in LR" procedure, regardless of the state of the general warning dialog mentioned above.

Hello,
I have a brand-new HP z620 with an Nvidia Quadro K 4000 display adapter and apparently a software and/or hardware conflict.
I am experiencing an issue with Lightroom 5.4 window not working correctly with my second, not primary, monitor. When Lightroom is working on the second monitor and I need to edit an image in Photoshop cs6, I want Lightroom stay where it is and Photoshop to open on my primary monitor. And this has worked well for me on my previous system which was also a Windows 7 64-bit machine with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 570.
When I click the Lightroom option to "edit in Photoshop CS 6” The Lightroom window will move itself to the primary monitor for no apparent reason. This is the problem I am seeking to remedy.
No other external editing programs opened through LR behaves this way, such as NIK or OnOne Perfect Photo Suite, and I really need LR to stay on the second monitor on the extended desktop.
I’ve tried every monitor cabling setup I could think of to try and even unplugging the primary to make windows identify it as the 2 monitor in the screen resolution settings, but that does nothing for me. My new workstation is running the same OS version and a K4000. Monitors are currently connected to the display ports via dp to dvi adapters. I’ve already tried moving the connections around and plugging one into dvi, there doesn’t seem to be a setting I can change within windows or adobe to change this behavior.”
On a related note, I have similar instability in software made by X-rite that supports the use of a colorimeter allowing me to build profiles for monitors and evaluate colors precisely. During the profiling process I place the colorimeter in the designated place on the secondary monitor and direct the application to begin showing the colorimeter different colors on that monitor. At this point the colors jump to the primary monitor while the rest of the interface along with the colorimeter is a secondary monitor. I have a workaround that I'm using for this particular problem but I am fairly sure that the issue that causes the problem with Lightroom is also the source of my trouble here and I need to eliminate it.

How can I edit lightroom 5 smart previews on mac book pro (mbp) when the lightroom 5 master image files are on my external hard drive is disconnected from the mbp? So far when I try to disconnect the external HD from the mbp, I get the following pop up window: The disk "external hard drive A" couldn't be ejected because "Lightroom" is using it. Quit that application and try to eject this disk again. When I do that and restart Lightroom 5, the Adobe Photoshop Lightroom - Select Catalog screen pops up but doesn't list my external hard drive A as a choice.
I've reviewed Adobe's Lightroom Help | Smart Previews Lightroom 5 web page and still haven't been able to figure what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.Your internal HDD. by default, is named 'Macintosh HD'. From what information you supplied, it looks like there is already a Lightroom catalog installed on you local (internal) HDD using the standard naming convention Adobe uses as well as a Lightroom catalog on your external drive which you created. To be sure of which catalog Lightroom is loading when it starts up, To do this, start Lightroom as you normally would. After it starts, select the Lightroom menu item, then select the Catalog Preferences item and finally, navigate to the General tab. The Location information will tell you exactly what catalog Lightroom is opening by default. This will likely be the Photography Mac Book Pro Versions catalog on your external HDD. Once that is confirmed, you are ready to proceed. As an additional test/verification, you can shut down Lightroom and, this time, start Lightroom while holding down the ALT/OPTION key. This will cause Lightroom to pause and display a screen which will allow you to chose a different catalog to open. Navigate to the /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder and select the Lightroom 5 Catalog.lrcat file. When Lightroom comes up, there should be no previews or folders as this catalog should be empty. Now you can be certain which catalog is being used and which catalog has all your data and you are ready to migrate your current catalog. Shut down Lightroom.
To migrate your current catalog, use Finder to locate your Photography Mac Book Pro Versions folder on your external drive. Select the folder and select COPY from the context menu. Next, use Finder to navigate to the /Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder on you internal HDD. You can start at the Macintosh HD level and work your way down by opening each level (Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures). Select the /Pictures folder and then select PASTE... from the context menu. When the COPY/PASTE is complete, you should see the following files on the Macintosh HD:
Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom/ and
Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions
The Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Lightroom folder will contain the empty default catalog the Adobe created when Lightroom was installed and Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions will contain a copy of the catalog you created on your external HDD.
You are almost done now. Make sure your external drive is still attached for this step. Restart Lightroom using the ALT/OPTION key again. When the Select Catalog screen appears, select the Choose a Different Catalog button (lower left side). When you do, a Finder window will open to allow you to navigate to a catalog of your choosing. Navigate to Macintosh HD/Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions and select the file Photography Mac Book Pro Version.lrcat. This is the copy you just created. Select the Open button and Lightroom should start. You should see all of your previews and settings just as before. Also, in the left hand panel, all of your folder should show up and none of them should be dimmed and none of your previews should display a small exclamation point badge. Either a dimmed folder name or an exclamation point badge indicates that Lightroom can't find the associated image file. If everything looks good, go to the Lightroom menu, select Preferences and then select the General tab. Under Default Catalog, select an option to either load the LAST catalog opened or select the Users/[user name]/Pictures/Photography Mac Book Pro Versions catalog from the drop down. Shut down Lightroom and then restart it normally. This time, when Lightroom starts, you should be viewing the new copy of your catalog. You can confirm this by looking at the General tab on the Catalog Preferences screen (Lightroom/Catalog Preferences menu items). Shut down Lightroom once again and this time, eject your external drive before restarting. This time, your folders in the left hand panel will be dimmed but you should be able to work with your smart previews. If Lightroom should display a Select Catalog screen with the external drive detached, double check your settings as it indicates Lightroom is still looking at the copy of the catalog on the external drive rather than the new copy you made.
Finally, if you are seeing dimmed folders and/or exclamation point badges with the external drive attached, this indicates a problem. You can select any folder and select Update Folder Location from the context menu. This will allow you to navigate to the copy on the external drive and select it. Lightroom will then update the catalog (select to synchronize the content). This will not only clear the dimmed folder problem but also remove the exclamation point badges for all photos in that missing folder. However, it may indicate that not all went well with the copy of the catalog so make sure to verify all went well. You can use the Get Info option on the two folders. You should see the same number of files/folders for both the copy on the internal drive as well as on the external drive but you can't rely on the byte count because of the possibility of differences between the geometry of the two drives. Hope this all helps! -
I am using Lightroom 5 and am hapy about it, but recently I hav encountered a problem when trying to edit an image in another program, i.e. Elements. I used the clone tool, saved the result and went back to Lightroom to open the image there. I did find a second copy, but this is identic with the one I already had in Lightroom, and I can see noe result of the clone process.
At the moment I would say it is uncertain whether Acrobat is completely ignoring the change, or whether the changes you are making aren't affecting the ink density. I have a suggestion for a test you could make to see which is the case.
When editing in Photoshop just add a box or mark on the image, for your tests.
- If this box does not appear in Acrobat, you know Acrobat is not seeing the edit
- If this box does appear in Acrobat, you know the problem is that your tool for changing ink densities is not taking effect. -
Hi I have a question about shooting in Raw with my Canon EOS 6d.
I'm in the process of learning photography and my goal was to start shooting in raw.
I have Photoshop CS5. When I tried to edit my images in raw I received an error message stating, "The photoshop camera raw plug-in did not recognize the format. If these files are from a camera, you may need to update your camera raw plug in."
In researching the issue I read that to edit in raw you need a camera model requirement of at least 7.3 which only works with CS6. My version of CS5 is 6.0.0.205. Being new to all this I see that my options are to upgrade to CS6 or convert by using DNG converter and paying a monthly fee. Two things I know nothing about and don't know which is would be more beneficial.
I'd appreciate any advise on which route to go and how upgrade and what it may cost. THANKS in advance!
HeatherIn researching the issue I read that to edit in raw you need a camera model requirement of at least 7.3 which only works with CS6.

Or join the Photoshop Photography Program (US9.99/month) and get PS CC+LR -
How do I save Lightroom image edits in source file?
My experience with the trial version of lightroom is very positive in terms of the convenient and powerful capabilities for editing images and the associated metadata. But I can't find a way to save the "develop" edits to images into the source file for the photo I am working with. So far, I am able to save the metadata into the file but not the image editing. From what I read, I fear this is not possible without silly round about exporting to new files then copying / moving multiple copies around, etc. Without this ability, I am pretty sure I will not purchase lightroom and will miss out on all the powerful features. Without an OPTION that turns on the equivalent of a SAVE button, managing my photos collection would be a nightmare.
So my question is: How do I save the edited (i.e., developed) version of a photo back into the same file where the original photo was stored?
Please, please spare me all the reponses telling me how stupid I am for wanting to do this and that the cognisenti and professionals would NEVER do this. But please just tell me there is a secret place to turn on this option in lightroom.
Thanks in advance.I had the same requirement to save in JPEGs files all non-metadata edits performed in Lightroom, in order to share modified pictures without duplicating files. By the way, I think it’s going to be more and more required by casual Lightroom users, as people get used to instant photo sharing in many situations where quantity matters more than quality
Here’s a nearly automatic (at least, scalable) solution that works, although it slightly lowers the quality by re-compressing the original pictures.
Once for all:
Download and install the wonderful Lightroom plugin “jf Run Any Command”, provided as donationware by Jeffrey Friedl here: http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/run-any-command. This “export filter” plugin allows you to run a command of your choice with each exported file, as part of the export while it’s going on. (You may also browse Jeffrey’s blog to find many other useful and beautiful things.)
In Lightroom, pre-define an export settings as follows:
Export to the hard drive, to the original picture folder, without adding the exported file to the catalog
Name the exported file “EXPORTED-{Filename}” (or anything different from the original file name)
JPEG format, 76% quality (see An Analysis of Lightroom JPEG Export Quality Settings at http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/jpeg-quality)
Keep all metadata
Here’s the interesting part, the Run Any Command settings:
Command to execute for each exported picture: copy "{FILE}" "{Path}\{LIBRARYFILENAME}" (this replaces the original file with a copy of the exported file)
Command to execute upon export completion: del {FILES} (this deletes all exported files).
NB: One could wonder why not directly export with the original file name and silently replace the original files (I believe Lightroom would allow this). It’s just a matter of error handling: in case the export goes wrong, no original file is changed at all.
The easy part: each time you want to save edits:
In Lightroom, select the pictures to save, and export them with the pre-defined settings. You're almost done. The JPEG files are ok, but inside Lightroom you see the modification effects doubled, as their specifications remain in the catalog database and they apply on modified JPEG instead of the original files.
While the entire set of "saved" pictures is still selected, in the Develop module switch Autosync on and click Reinit to erase all modification specifications from the catalog for all pictures, then press CTRL-S to write down to disk any metadata updated by Lightroom -and accept if required to confirm that Lightroom values should replace externally set values.
