I have not faced this error before and now dis is faced by all the users of the portal.
Please suggest what could be the possible reason and more importantly solution :)....
Hi,
Yes acivex control is properly installed on the local machines.
Also checked the URL genertaor service and it has the hosname of the server.
Edit locally was working fine till a week back.
At that time a porblem occured regarding the tablespace of KM, and at that time the tablespace
was increased. After that, the Edit Locally started throwing the described error.

KM Document: edit locally - error occured "Operation Failed"
Hi everyone!
I am runnig SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.0 with MS Internet Explorer 7.0.
I am trying to edit documents locally from the KM. Unfortunately it doesn´t work. Error occured "Operation Failed".
I think all ActivX settings in the web browser are corecctly configured. I don´t think that there are problems with permissions of the document because it doesn´t work with personal documents too.
Could the problem depend on MIME Type settings?
What can i do to solve the problem?
Looking forward for your helb and answers
DominikHi Dominik,
Open the Config tool and check if you this java parameters set for each server node:
-Djava.io.tmpdir=
if not, create a directory and add this parameters to each server node .
After that, you should restart the J2ee server.
Hope this help.
Best regards,

Hi,
I can't able to work with "Edit Locally" in my text file in the Public document.
Can any body tell me,If i want to do any setting or adding any role ?...for enabling the "Edit Locally" option in my public document.
Regards,
Ravi.Hi Ravi,
You need to configure edit locally in the KM Configuration either to run as Java Applet or ActiveX:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/a6/181b09bcc7fe4389c8c17d2ad849cc/frameset.htm
Also, as mentioned there "Regardless of whether you are using ActiveX or the Applet, you have to make ActiveX settings in the browser (Internet Explorer) in order to use the Edit Locally function."
You might also want to check all prerequisites mentioned here:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/3b/cbf52dde472343a5b8941dd43cc479/frameset.htm
Hope this helps,

Getting error while trying to edit locally the document in KM of portal.
Hi all

The download of the document failed .
Is there any PC specific configuration required? For the same user we are able to edit the documents from some PCs but from another it is not working.
Thannking you.
Rajendra.Hi,
You have to set your activex control properly. then only edit locally in KM will work.
Also check the below wiki

Edit Locally: Download of the document fails
Hi all
When I try 'Edit Locally" , its giving an error "The download of the document failed".
Local editing (under CM>Utilities>Editing) is configured correctly. From another portal, edit locally is working fine.
Is there anything else that I have to do for Local editing
Please help me.
Any idea.. I am unable to find a solution

Aparnna PrasadHi,
the "Edit locally" fonction need to install an activeX to the computer.
The user need to be administrator. Then when for the first time he tries to edit locally, the activeX will install. You can then remove the user from the administrator group.
You need write authorizations in registry (local machine) and to folder C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Local Settings\Temp
If you configured the portal in java mode for local edit, you need to install JRE 1.4.2_x on the computer.

Edit Locally: The download of the document failed
Hello All-
We've run into an issue on our portal (EP7, SPS17) where users can not Edit Locally. The command returns the warning "The download of the document failed".
I've checked the logs and the configuration of Local Editing in System Administration and nothing seems out of place. Furthermore, the same configuration seems to function fine in our test environment.
Any ideas?
thanksHi Tim,
There are a couple of Notes regarding local editing problems.
You might want to check those:

You can also verify the download as follows:
1. In the Web browser of the user, from the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
2. In the General tab, click the Settings button.
3. In the Settings window, click the View Objects button.
4. In the Download Program Files window, if any of the following appear in the Program Files list, then the ActiveX control was downloaded:

The above files are not there in my Downloaded program files window. Which means my active x is not enabled.

Error when downloading large SharePoint document using REST API
Hello,
The following code works fine for small files, but I got "SCRIPT14: Not enough storage is available to complete this operation." error when downloading files over 100M.
Is it possible to write the data directly to a local storage (IndexedDB for example) instead of keeping it in memory?
var getFileEndpoint = String.format(
"{0}/_api/SP.AppContextSite(@target)/web/getfilebyserverrelativeurl('{1}')/$value?@target='{2}'",
_SPAppWebUrl, _DocumentUrl, _SPHostUrl);
var executor = new SP.RequestExecutor(_SPAppWebUrl);
var info = {
url: getFileEndpoint,
method: "GET",
//binaryStringResponseBody: true,
success: function (data) {
//Save data to IndexedDB
error: function (err) {
//Error handling
executor.executeAsync(info);
Since my page is located in a SharePoint Hosted App, I can't use XMLHttpRequest directly to access the document in the host site. Seems like the MS cross-domain library is the only choice to me.
Thanks,
Matt.
MattHi,
Per my understanding, you might want to download the content of files into database in SharePoint Hosted App.
In SharePoint Hosted App, as we can only use JavaScript which is supposed to be executed in browser, the content retrieved will be stored in memory then to the local hard drive.
As a workaround, I suggest you develop a Provider Hosted App and do the same job there instead. In Provider Hosted App, we can use C# to handle the file downloading which should
be more appropriate in your scenario.

Error message downloading j2se 1.5.0 on windows XP home edition (SP2)
Hello:
I am getting the following error message attempting to install the j2se 5.0 on my windows XP home edition (SP2):
"Error JavaTM installer
The installer cannot continue because the files necessary for installation are unavailable. If trying to install a beta or older version please check http://java.sun.com/j2se to determine if it is still supported. If so please try installing at a later time as these file might be only temporarily unavailable."
There is a bug report:
Bug ID: 6237992
Tested Bundle: 5.0u2_b09 JDK iftw on staging site
http://webwork.sfbay/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
Tested O/S: XP-Home (sp2)
Problem:
The installer throws error messages. I tried on three different
XP-Home (sp2) machines in our lab. It throws error message the very first or second time and after that, it seems to work fine.
Steps to reproduce:
1) On XP-Home(sp2) machine, try to download and install the JDK iftw bundle from
http://webwork.sfbay/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
2) During the installation the first or second time, one of the following messages thrown:
A) "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and than you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package"
B) Error - Java Installer
"This installer cannot continue because the files necessary for installation are unavailable. If trying to install a beta or older version, please check http://java.sun.com/j2se to determine if it is still supported. If so, please try installing at a later time, as these files might be only temporary unavailable"
This problem seems to occur on XP-Home(sp2). When error message pops up, keep trying it, it 's eventually OK. It may confuse consumers at the first two times.
xxxxx@xxxxx 2005-03-09 05:11:47 GMT"
I have tried the downloading five times to no avail, both by double clicking, and using the windows run utility. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
ThanksI am getting the same error when opening the J2se Development Kit 5.0 Update 8 after I press the Run button. ( "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and than you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package").
Is there a solution ?
Thanks,

Tried downloading word document from email. error message Associated helper application does not exist
To open a document you must have installed an Android application for it. The file is downloaded but can be opened with Firefox, but with the specific app from Android.
Try installing a documents app and for sure it will work. -
Editing and uploading a downloaded document
Have an application that allows for both uploads of documents (using a File Browse item and transferring the relevant fields from the HTMLDB_APPLICATIION_FILES view to my customized table) and downloads of documents (using a call via a URL to a customized copy of the Oracle download procedure presented in the sample application). Both the upload and download process work OK.
The issue I'm running into, is that when a user wants to download a document, the user is presented with the choice of opening or saving the downloaded document. That works OK, but what we'd really like to do is offer the user a chance to edit the downloaded document and then by saving the changes (such as by closing the window in which the downloaded document appears, after making edits), the modified document is "re-uploaded" to the database. What we have to do now is save the download document to the user's PC, then the user has to open the document and modify it, save it, and re-upload it to the database.
Any ideas on how we can save the users a few steps and upload the document directly after editing? Thanks.Well, you can only do that when the content being edited is plain text (mime type text/plain) and less than 32K (hard limit in PL/SQL)
Looking at how that page (4000:46) is built in f4000.sql, there seem to be some APIs that do some magic
l_text := wwv_flow_utilities.clob_to_varchar2(
wwv_flow_utilities.blob_to_clob(p_blob=>l_blob,p_charset=>l_charset));Clearly, all these are undocumented internal-only Oracle APIs that Oracle is not obliged to support.
Search around on asktom.oracle.com, I am sure you will find code examples that do this sort of thing.
Hope this helps. -
'Edit Locally' command Error -- IISProxy?
Hi,
We have a problem with 'Edit Locally' command since we are using Windows Authentication. Our architecture is:
SAP EP 6.0 SP2 Patch 28 (Solaris)
IIS Proxy (Windows 2003)
The situation is:
If we access to SAP Portal using old url (directly to Solaris) using form-based authentication we do not have any problem with 'edit locally' command.
However, if we access to SAP Portal using IISProxy and Windows Authentication we get an 'Operation failed' error message.
Java plug-in console shows the following message:

trying to update apps on iphone and getting error message, there is not enough available local storage to download these items. you can manage your local device storage usage in settings. What am I to do?
The storage you purchased is in the cloud, and doesn't do anything with your pad. Your problem is simply that you have too much content on your pad. Go to settings, general, usage, and it will show you how much space you have avaliable on your pad. If you let the screen sit for a while, all the apps will be displayed, and you can see how much stuff you have associated with each.
You have to no option but to delete some of the content on your pad. Videos, comics, pitcures and some music files use a lot of space. The cloud allows you to leave stuff there, so you can get it when you need it.
