Edit location metadata in new new Photos for OSX?

Just upgraded to Photos, the iPhoto replacement in OSX Yosemite. I now find that in addition to grouping photos by date, the app sorts by location metadata when available. My problem is that the location data is often wrong. For example, I have a series of photos from New Zealand, taken with an SLR that I didn't even realize had a GPS, that are sorted by erroneous location data that I am unable to edit. So how does one correct bad metadata? I cannot find such a function, nor does there appear to be any setting that tells the app not to sort and display that data. Help?

This is not yet supported. Photos can use GPS, if the photos have GPS tags, but you cannot or edit them in Photos.
To correct wrong GPS tags, export the photo from Photos and use any application that can edit the tags, iPhoto, exiftool, Jetphoto, there are many.
You may want so send feedback to the developers, that this feature is necessary:
Apple - Mac OS X - Feedback
If you are comfortable with the Terminal use the free exiftool:

  • How do I make a private album in new Photos for IMac?

How do I make a private album in the new Photos for IMac? I had one in iPhoto, and now that all the photos migrated to Photos my private album is not hidden anymore. Thanks for help!

Photos does not hide photos in albums at all.  Photos can only be hidden from Moments, Collections, Years.
If you want private albums, move the photos in questions to a different Photos Library, that you keep hidden.

  • Do I need to buy new programs for osx lion?

Do I need to buy new programs for osx lion?

First you need to make sure you have a supported machine, and all the current updates (Core 2 Duo, i3/5/7 and 10.6.8.)
If you are using Microsoft Office 2004/8, then you will need to buy Office 2011. If you are using older versions of Adobe Photoshop before CS3 that are PPC only, then you will need to buy a newer Adobe CS.
If you are running iWork 08, it will work, but there will be no support for full screen unless you have 09 version. If you use Apple software like Final Cut or Logic Studio, you will also need the latest versions to use full screen support.
Basically, if you have any software installed that is more than 2 years old, you need to check if it is Intel, PPC or Universal. Because anthing that is listed as PPC will not work at all. And most Apple apps older than 2 years do not have any support for the new Full Screen or Versions features.
If you want to see if you have any PPC apps that are not supported at all, simply click the Apple icon at the top, click about this Mac, then click more info. System Profiler will open, on the left side click on "Applications" and you will see a list of every installed app. The far right column will tell you KIND, Intel, Universal or PPC. Anything in the list that says PPC will not work after installing Lion.

  • How do I change a bad location in the new photos app for Mac?

I am not sure why but hundreds of my photos have the wrong location stored for them. Is there any easy way to change them in the new Photos app for mac?
    Thanks

You can't at the present time.  There's no such capability in the current version of Photos.
Tell Apple what additional features you want in Photos via both http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html and http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html  since they don't have a feedback page for Photos as yet.

  • Location Error in New Photos App IOS 10.10.3

After getting the IOS update for my Macbook Pro, the photos taken the day of and after show up in the new Photos App as having been taken in China. How do I correct the location for these images? All over images prior to this update have the correct location information.

I have no idea, I just connected my phone and this is how they are importing. I haven't opened them in other applications.

  • What happened to the Sepia feature in the new Photos for Mac?

I used to convert pictures to Sepia in Aperture, but have not been able to find the ability to do so in the new Photos app.  Does that feature not exist?

I brought up Help and this is what it suggests: "Insert a blank disk and click Burn Disc (at the bottom of the iTunes window)." but when I look at my iTunes window, there is no "Burn Disc" shown at the bottom of the window.
Apple does not seem to be too good with keeping iTunes’ Help current or providing thorough explanations. For instance, the sorting fields were introduced in iTunes 7.1, but no information about those fields were ever in the help screens. Now that they are finally referenced in iTunes Help, the only mention of the sorting fields is a single line stating,
Click the Sorting tab and enter custom text to sort by.
on a help page about tagging songs for grouping and sorting. If Microsoft can provide general explanation with links to more detailed explanations, detailed instructions and provide examples as to how and why a feature may be used, then Apple being known for creating more user-friendly products should be at least as thorough if not have help screens that blow anything in office away.
For one, iTunes Help should include an index that allows one to find pages/articles that reference a feature?

  • I have problems with new photos for photostream.

I have a problem with upload of new photos to a stream I have made in iCloud.
I made this stream last friday and  had no problem. But today when i tried to upload new pictures i got a problem.
When I'm in the photostream and i choose to add new photo, I'm able to choose the picture, but after this it freeze/lock and I don't get the possibility to publish the picture or do anything else.
    I'm working on an iPad2.
    Please - what to do?

    Try this:
Quit all apps: Double tap the Home button and swipe the app preview page up for each open app
    then
Reset: Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons and don’t let go until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears (no data will be lost)

  • Editing/Adding geotags within new Photos app?

Does anybody know of a way to edit or add the geotags of photos inside the Photos App? This used to be possible with iPhoto.
I have found plenty of third party apps which can edit geotags, but they all require removing the photo from Photos App, then importing it back in once the geotag is edited.

Until editing location data will be added to Photos, use the third-party tools to add the Geotags before you import the photos to your Photos library. This way, the locations will be added to the original image files before you start editing in Photos.
For example, you could first import your photos to iPhoto, do the things that Photos not yet supports, like batch changing the titles or captions and adding places, and then export the tagged photos to a folder on your Desktop and import it to Photos,
If you keep the if library for "tagging" on a second disk, you would automatically have a backup of the originals, which we should have anyway.
iPhoto should still be fully functional, even with Photos installed, if you have updated to iPhoto 9.6.1.

  • Edit in Photoshop - No New Photo

What Lightroom settings should I use if, everytime I click 'Edit in Photoshop' for a particular photo, I don't want multiple new TIFF files to be created in the Lightroom catalog? ..Other than maybe having to create another file structure for those TIFF files. Or, is creating a separate file structure and having to access them through Photoshop the easiest thing to do?  Any other ideas for simplifying this?
    Thank you.

If you aren't modifying the picture in Lightroom between trips to Photoshop, choose Edit Original rather than Edit a Copy. If you make LR changes after the image comes back then you'll lose them unless you choose Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments.

  • Why aren't new photos I take showing up in new Photos for Mac? (They are in iCloud photo library)

all software up to date.  did iPhoto to iCloud photo library transfer move and activated it both on phone and laptop.  (was in beta on phone even from weeks ago)
only way to get photos on the laptop is to plug in usb and snyc manually.  i assume it's suppose to just be able to sync wirelessly just like  iPhoto did with photo stream?  at least from all I've read it will do that and a lot more.  thanks.

Sorry no answers here but the exact same problem. New to MAC as well and the guys at the store told me the MAC should be seeing it no problem. Sorry you are having the issue but glad I am not the only one. If I find a solution somewhere else I will try to post it here for you.

  • Installing new drive for OSX-How do I format and remove existing drive

I'm going to replace the 320G drive that came in my Mac Pro with a 500G. I want to format and remove the 320G, then put OSX on the 500G. How would I go about this.

    Hi,
Shut down computer, add the 500GB drive into one of the open hard drive slots, reboot, there might be a window that pops up indicating if you want to "intialize" the new drive. Click Intialize (If nothing comes up launch disk utility located in applications--> utilities--> disk utility).
In the disk utility window, locate the new drive on the left side column. Click on the drive, and in the middle portion of the window there will be 5 tabs: First Aid, Erase, Partition, RAID, Restore. Click Partition.
Under Volume Scheme, choose how many partitions you want. I your case you probably just want 1 partition, so choose 1 partition.
Name the volume under volume information, choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) for format.
Looking at the buttons below press "Options". Your mac is intel make sure "GUID Partition Table" is clicked.
Press Partition. Wait a couple seconds for it to partition. Once done, it will show up on the desktop. It's ready to go.
Next step to decide is if you want to fresh install the OS onto this new 500GB drive OR simply clone over your 320GB. This is up to you. If you don't want to reinstall everything just use a cloning program such as "Superduper!" or "Carbon Copy Cloner".
If you want to fresh install the OS, insert the OS disk that came with the mac pro. Restart. When restarting hold down the letter "c" on the keyboard to boot from disk. Follow the instructions, and choose "erase and install". If you are going to fresh install, BE SURE TO CHOOSE THE BLANK 500GB, NOT YOUR CURRENT 320GB. To fresh install, the choice is "Erase and Install" I think. Install and your 500GB drive should be ready to go, with a brand new OS installed.
Whether you choose to clone over your system, or fresh install, if possible always run "Disk Warrior" or "Tech Tools" maintenance disks if you have them either after the OS install or after installing all your applications.
    Have fun!

  • Installing the new update for OSX has stopped my trackpad from swiping between pages in Safari. Whenever I try it Safari freezes and I have to quit. I have checked system preferences and the option is checked.

ave to quit. I have checked system preferences and the option is still checked. Is anyone having the same problem?

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Preferences/com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.trackpad.plist.
Move the .plist to your desktop.
Log out/in and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer ones.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
You might need to redo the View settings after an update.

  • Best practices for importing archived/new photos into LR?

    Hi All,
New to LR 2.7.  After countless tutorials and online chats, I am still confused as to how LR manages image files.  It's like HS algebra all over again!
Is the LR designed and intended for managing all of your photos or just those that need editing?
Do you import all photos for one giant library?
Is it best to save photos on external drive first then import to LR?
For photos that are saved on an external drive, is it still necessary to copy them to a folder on your computer before importing or can you work directly from the drive? Is there a risk here?
If you are importing directly from your memory card into LR, do you first need to save them to the external drive to avoid losing the original images?
Looking for simple step by step routine to follow for archived photos and for new photos
    Thank you for your help!!

You can store the images where you want, internal, external or network, and you can import directly from a card to that location.  LR won't delete the images off the card, you have to do that separately.
