"Edit Menu in Photoshop" - just lost 2hrs of work

Well, I clicked the "Edit Menu in Photoshop" option in Encore CS3 and reluctantly went to work on my menu in Photoshop since Encore doesn't have the basics of menu design options.
I saved my menu constantly in Photoshop, but didn't think to save it under a different filename since I figured it would save *something* to the hard disk anyway for me to find later.
I switched back to Encore and since nothing had changed there, I closed the project and thought re-opening might show me my updated menu. I was wrong.
I just lost two hours of work. I tried to open the "recently opened" file, but no, it was some sort of temp file that doesn't exist anymore.
Anyone have an idea of how to get this back? And how am I supposed to update my Encore menu so that it shows the Photoshop modifications?
Thanks
Prizm

Prizm4,
First thing that I'd do is Open PS, then File>Open Recent. You should see the TMP Menu file in that list, as it Opened from Encore. Open it, and see what state it is in. Ideally, it should be up to date, from when you did the Save.
As Joe points out, the TMP file is created by Encore, then Opened in PS. Save (or Ctrl-s) should save this file and link it back to Encore. In CS2, I encountered some problems (as did others), where hitting Save (and/or Ctrl-s) did NOT update in Encore. Remember, this was in CS2. The workaround for me was to Save several times (sounds like you did that). I'd usually have my Layer Sets open, and Ctrl-s, close the Layer Sets and Ctrl-s. Though it was a few added keystrokes and not the perfect workflow, it always worked for me. A few times, it took a moment for Encore to finally update to the revised file.
I assumed that this was a little glitch between PS and Encore2 in CS2. It also did not happen THAT often, but enough, that the multiple Ctrl-s became a habit of mine.
I never saw anyone, who could this this malfunction 100% of the time. I also did not find any commonality between systems (either HW, or SW conflicts) to indicate that some component was causing this. I also could not find much in MY workflow to suggest why some Menus did this. Most often they were variations of Library Menu Assets. I did notice that I had more of these glitches when working from a "template" Project, that only had AV Assets changed (Save_As Projects from the original "template.) and then the Menus changed to match the new Assets. Notice that I put "template" in quotation marks so one will not confuse Template with "template" in Encore. In my case, 95% of the Menus did just what they should going to/from PS out of Encore2. There were those pesky 5%, however that things did not go, as designed.
I would have assumed that CS3 had gotten around whatever was causing this, but as it was not 100% repeatable, maybe not.
When I'd go the "normal" Save route, and it would not "take," Opening the TMP (Files>Open Recent) always got me back in PS. Multiple Ctrl-s always did the trick. Seems that 3 was the magic number, when it was not working, as it should.
If you do a Save_As, you will have to Import_As Menu into Encore and then probably want to Delete your "other" Menu.

Maybe something else will strike you as useful.

  • "Edit Menu in Photoshop" not working?

If you have installed a new version of Photoshop, you may find that the command to "Edit Menu in Photoshop" no longer works.
The fix for this is simple. Just re-associate the .PSD extension with the new version of Photoshop.
You can do this in a couple of ways (all versions of Windows).
1 - Find a folder with a .PSD file in it.
Right-click the file, and choose the "Open With" dialogue.
Select the new installation of PhotoShop, and make sure that the check-box for "Always use this programme" is ticked.
Click on Open, and from now on all PSD files should be associated with the new installation. Some systems might require a restart to lock the association in.
    2 - Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Folder Options.
Click on the tab marked "File Types".
Scroll down to the PSD type, and set the "open" command to the new installation of Photoshop.
    That will do it.

    Andy,
I think that Jeff got the problem handled, but this is something that we will all be living with for some time - dead links to FAQ's, other articles and the like. Stanely Jones had done a good job of finding many of the "lost" articles from the previous forum changeover. Don't know if he'll be motivated to do it all over again.
I would like to think that Adobe has someone working on getting some of the old stuff back, or at least re-linked. Right now, the various search engines still have the old dead links in most of their searches. I guess that it will take the 'bots a while to catch up, if they ever do.
At least Jeff & Neil have gotten some of the FAQ's back up and working. Good job!

  • "Edit Menu in Photoshop" function is not working anymore due to new install of Photoshop.

I had Photoshop 7.0 installed on my system, and the "Edit Menu in Photoshop" function would bring up Photoshop 7.0, no problem.
    I then installed Photoshop CS3.
When I pressed the "Edit Menu in Photoshop" button, it would still bring up the old Photoshop 7.0. Then I uninstalled Photoshop 7.0. Now, when I press the button, I get, "Could not edit in Photoshop. Photoshop does not appear to be installed."
Does anybody know where I can configure Encore (CS3), so that it will recognize Photoshop CS3? If not, what do I need to do to make this work (uninstall and install Encore?)

  • "Edit menu in Photoshop" opens up QuickTime picture viewer

As the subject line suggests, when I right-click a menu and select "Edit menu in Photoshop" from the pulldown, it opens up QuickTime picture viewer. Somehow, Encore or this function in Encore has gotten reassociated with QuickTime. Any idea how to get it going to Photoshop again instead? Or, any idea of a work-around to open up the menu in Photoshop manually? (Where can I access the menu psd files?)

You need to associate psd files with Photoshop.
Go to a psd file and right click on it and open with..
Set it to Always open with this program.

  • Edit Menu in Photoshop no longer works.

My "Edit Menu in Photoshop" button no longer works. How do I fix this?
    Encore CS6
    OSX 10.8.5
    Thanks.

The frustrating part is that one little button/function is so very important in my Encore workflow.
Essential. I'm not on/in the cloud, so can't experiment. I have been curious whether installation of PS CC breaks this (or not), and in your case whether the recent update could have interferred.
You seem to have had CS6 Encore going to CS6 PS even with CC installed.
Independent of those issues, the question is how do you get Encore CS6 to go to EITHER PS CS6 or CC if it is going to neither.

  • OSStatus Error = -35 while trying to 'Edit menu in Photoshop' using Encore CS6

While trying to edit my Encore CS6 menu in Photoshop I keep getting 'OSStatus Error = -35'. I contacted Adobe Support via chat and it was suggested that I add Photoshop CS6 to my computer since I use Photoshop CC.  I added CS6 to my computer and I am still getting the same message. I don't see an option to tell Encore to use Photoshop CS6 instead of CC.
I am using Mac Pro (Late 2013) running Yosemite 10.10.2. I have a full Adobe Cloud membership. Not sure what other information might be pertinent here. I would greatly appreciate any help/support I can get in regards to this issue.
I've tried to use iDVD to create my menus, purely out of frustration and found that there are issues with it as well. I see that these authoring programs are not being supported or updated any longer by Adobe or Apple. I have purchased Wondershare Video Creator Ultimate to burn my dvd's but the menu options are limited at best.  My goal is to create a simple custom DVD menu that looks professional using my own graphics.

This is a Mac operating system error, and not one that we see often. It is probably a reflection of permissions issues, not what version of PS you do or do not have.
Yosemite is not supported for Encore, but neither was Mavericks. Many of the issues in Mavericks appeared to be permissions. Most Adobe apps need read/write access, and those were not the defaults for the OS.
Some Mavericks users reported the following fixes their problems - I eventually assumed that somewhere in the process, it was fixing permissions. But perhaps it does more:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/6109315#6109315
And comments for these operating systems for Premiere Pro, Adobe Media Encoder, and After Effects may be helpful. (Encore does not have a support team that is active, so nothing official for it.) But there are specific bug fixes for these OSs in CC versions, so....

  • Layer Edit Menu Froze Photoshop

Ok, something really weird happened to my photoshop. I was busy designing an advert for work, happily adding layer styles to text as per usual and when I was busy selecting a colour for the gradient overlay my colour picker menu froze.
I can still select colours and photoshop is still active (if i move my cursor about the screen the menu buttons still work but all the options are greyed out so I can't even save and restart) but I can't escape the menu. Neither the "Cancel" button or the "Ok" button are working, the "x" button isn't workin and hitting escape doesn't work either. When I try and click anything in the menu I get an error "ping" and photoshop opens the adobe photoshop web page but if I click on the canvas my cursor becomes the ink dropper and selects the colour.
Is there some other way I can get out of the layer menu without restarting and losing all my progress? I really REALLY don't want to have to shut down photoshop because I'm pretty sure it's been a while since I saved and this ad involves a lot of etching that I don't want to have to do from scratch.
For the sake of clarity, this is the menu I'm stuck on:

Thanks! I hadn't thought my auto-save was enabled because I'd never actually done it myself, which was why I was so weary of forcing a shut down of the program. But I suppose it must have been a preset function because forcing the shutdown and restarting did result in an auto-save being recovered XD Thank goodness too, I would have lost so much work.

  • I am still having trouble with Guided Edit mode in Photoshop. It doesn't work and I have been

careful about the size of the files that I open or work on. Initializing doesn't run and I was wondering if not down-loading Revel was effecting the editing features in Photoshop 12. What do you mean by:
I have a IMAC with Snow Leopard and Mavericks
Those are two entirely different versions of the mac operating system. Snow Leopard is 10.6, and Mavericks is 10.9.
If you are really running 10.6, the specs for PSE require at least 10.7. If that's not the problem, more information, please, about just what you have and just what is going on. Incidentally, this is the user to user forum, so we have no access to any case number stuff. We're just other customers like you.

  • Edit Menu in Photoshop

Has anyone figured out how to get this to work with Photoshop CC instead of Photoshop CS6?  (Without removing Photoshop CS6?)

One of the users who got this to work (or not; I don't remember), had removed CS6 after installing CC, then reinstalled CS6 to get Encore. So one variable may be the order in which CC and CS6 are installed/uninstalled, etc.
    O.k, got it!
    I am using three systems:
I had Production Premium CS6 installed when i installed CC on all three systems. I had CS6 on all systems three systems for about a month after the release of CC, then i uninstalled everything CS6 but Encore CS6. On one system i still have CC + Production Premium CS6 installed. On all three systems CS6 was installed when i installed CC.
All three systems have the perpetual license of CS6.
When i changed that .psd's open with CC instead of CS6, all Adobe apps were closed.
For the record, i worked with still images in Premiere Pro CC, so i changed .tga and .tif as well as .psd for full Edit Original functionallity in Pr CC/Ps CC. For Encore .psd should be enough, but who knows what happens under the hood when one change other files?
Those are the only CC apps i have installed:

  • I purchased the Creative Cloud Photography Plan for 9.99 and I cannot gain access to Photoshop, just Lightroom. It worked for night I purchased it and now I cannot open up Photoshop.

I purchased the Creative Cloud Photography Plan for 9.99 and I can't open up Photoshop.  I had access to it the night I bought it online and now I cannot use it. Will someone help figure this out.  Perhaps I'm an idiot and just missing an obvious step so I apologize for that but, I still NEED HELP!!!

I have a laptop with a Windows operating system (not lucky enough to have a Mac) and as far the Adobe version, it's the plan for 9.99 that Adobe is offering.   I was under the impression that the Creative Cloud Photography Plan included Photoshop and Lightroom, the latest versions of both, because that's what it said when I purchased it.  I'm sorry my information is too limited or not detailed but, it's a pretty basic concern. I bought something,  it's not working and I want to know why.  Thank you and apologies for sounding rude. Thank you for responding as well.

  • Menu's not saving in Encore when I edit them in Photoshop

When I use the 'edit menu in Photoshop' feature and make changes to a menu it doesn't show the changes in Encore. What's up with that?

Joe, here is my exact workflow.
I open up Encore 2.0. I create a blank new NTSC menu. I right click on the menu and choose edit in Photoshop. I go into Photoshop CS2 and make whatever changes, background, text etc.
I do a CTRL - S in Photoshop CS 2 and Alt Tab or go down to the taskbar and switch back to Encore 2.0.
Nothing has updated. I then switch back over to PS CS 2 and my menu is still there. (I have tried closing the menu and going over to CS 2, doesn't work and as such I have lost all my changes.) I then can only choose save as and PS points me to the temp folder where encore is saving it's menu files. PS prompts me to overwrite the existing file, I choose yes. And then switch back to Encore. Lo and behold it is now updated! I have just started incorporating the save as into my workflow.
Interestingly enough I thought I would try this out with Encore 1.5.1 and it worked perfectly. Shut down Encore 1.5.1 and opened up 2.0, started another new project and did the exact same. Same issue! Is having 1.5.1 installed causing an issue?
Please tell me if I can tell you anything else.
    Thanks,
    Martin

  • Error message when trying to edit a menu in Photoshop.

    Hi,
Having a horrible time with Encore. The latest niggle is with a menu I want to edit in Photoshop.
It's a simple four button menu with a single highlight created inside Encore. It has an animated background created in the usual way. When I try to select "Edit Menu in Photoshop" I get the following error message:
"Unable to execute script at line 0. photoshop is undefined"
I've searched the internet, found no refernce. Updated all my CS6 apps, problem remains.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello,
That is quite unusual.  Usually both programs connect to each other accurately.  I was even able to use and older version of photoshop (i.e. cs5) and have encore cs6 link up to it.
Is your photoshop installation in the same directory as encore?  Like "Program Files > Adobe > Encore / Photoshop"  Are you using the 32bit version of photoshop or 64bit version?  And what about Encore?
And can you also provide a screenshot of the error?
    Thanks

  • Encore crashes after editing menus in Photoshop

Running Encore CS3 3.0.1.008 on Vista. When I open a Menu and then choose Edit Menu in Photoshop, everything works great the FIRST time I edit the menu. I can save it, close in Photoshop, and come back to Encore.
If I try to Edit the menu a SECOND time, however, and then close and come back to Encore, Encore will crash.
Happens every time. My only recourse is to restart Encore, which then allows me one more chance to edit my menu.
It wouldn't be so bad if Encore didn't take 5+ minutes to open my project each time! Any help is much appreciated.

The process for "Edit in Photoshop" seems to be (observation and some reading, but no real hard facts - maybe Joe can correct me, if I'm wrong): Encore creates a TMP file with a link to the Menu, then Opens the TMP file in PS. Work is done and Save then writes over the TMP file, which is brought back into Encore to replace the original Menu file. Even with a bunch of Buttons, these are really quite small, compared to most of the image files that I usually work on. Should not require too much RAM for this operation.
I've only had one problem, which seemed to be specific to a Project that was created to use as a "template" and was always done as a Save_As in Encore with new Assets for each part of the Project. The Save, or Ctrl-s did not seem to get back to Encore after an Edit in Photoshop. This was only about 25% of the time, and only happened to me when I used that "template." Others posted of similar problems, but with new Projects, however I've not seen that. Also, with hundreds of "Edit in PS," that is the only glitch I've ever encountered. I also usually leave PS minimized, after the Save, as I often work on a half-dozen Menus in a session. Also, I often have PPro minimized too, so there is a bunch of Adobe stuff in the background.
I wonder if this is system dependent - memory issue maybe? For me, the "Edit in PS" has always worked perfectly (except as per above), and has done so if I shut down PS after the edit, or leave it open and bring focus back to Encore. I'm using 4GB (3GB switch) with about 8GB Win Virtual Mem on 2 physical disks with XP-Pro/SP-2.
Only other thing that I can think of is that the linking to the TMP and back might be causing the problem, but do not know the mechanics of this linking - XML?
Sorry that this is not much help for your problem.
