Edit my AIM account

Hi,
looking for answers but can't find a place for my question, so I'm posting here. I have an AIM account to use with iChat. AOL/AIM have my old email address to send me information by email. Is there a way to change this email address ? I just log into AOL.com but I can't find any place to edit my settings there.
Any help ?

HI,
Your specs say OS X 10.6.8 which would be iChat 5.x.x in Snow Leopard.
This version by default tries to login in to the AIM server called login.oscar.aol.com on port 5190 using the TCP protocol.
An internet connection is made up of 65535 of these so called ports (more like TV stations)
Most routers have ports up to port 1024 which means some of the iChat Login Ports are above this.
Two ways to Solve this.
1) Change the Login port iChat uses
2) Change the way the router opens ports.
For 1) go to iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts
Highlight/select the AIM account.
In the Info Tab deselect the "Enable this Account" to make sure you are Logged out.
In the Server Settings change the Port to 443
You can decide not to use SSL as well if you wish (the server name automatically loses the leading "s")
For 2) log in to the routers set up pages and make sure it is doing UPnP
This allows the computers to tell the router which ports to open. It also allows multiple devices to use the same ports.
For iChat this allows it to Screen Share as this happens on an unlisted random port.
Opps forgot a couple of things.
If you are using an APple ID registed at Apple ending in @mac.com @me.com or @iCloud.com then the passowrd at Apple has to be 16 characters or less to work with the AIM servers.
Additionally the iCloud issued @me.com and @iCloud.com one require you to use iChat 6 in Lion or Messages in Mountian Lion due to changes Apple made to the security of letting AIM "read" the passwords.

One day last week, when Facetime rang, my kids answered on the iPad. Dang! Now it's all fouled up! The new iMac won't see my AIM account name and shows that I'm offline, because the iPad is off. We were able to call using "most recent call" in Facetime, but now I can't go and control that new iMac remotely to help with some email concerns the user is having. I'm trying to not personalize this too much, but it's grandkids talking to Grandma and Mom and Dad trying to solve new machine hiccups. Normally, I could just go in via iChat and control the other machine and troubleshoot, but I can't do it with Facetime only. My buddy list doesn't see the other computer even though we are connected on Facetime right now. My name is not highlighted for the other computer. What could have gone so wrong?
Any help would be appreciated.

Whats the difference between using a .mac account and an AIM account?

hi, i'm trying to set up ichat to videochat with home when i'm abroad. Will two AIM accounts satisfy or do i have to have a family .mac account? i really dont see the point in paying 200 bucks for the .mac account if you can do the same thing with a free AIM account.

Use AIM for Mac and use the Export and Import features.
Other than that it is a question on making sure every Single Buddy has more than just their Screen name in the IChat Address Card so it is added to the Address Book and dragging them back from there

IChat 4. Using my .mac account and my AIM account simultaneously

Can I set up my .mac account and my AIM account with different Names and Pictures? At the moment, every time I change one the other one changes too!
Do I need to alter the Server Settings and Port for each account? If so, to what do I change them to?

Screen sharing and AIM account question

In the Apple docs it says:
"You can share screens using AIM (including me.com and Mac.com), Jabber, Google Talk, and Bonjour. You can’t share screens using iMessage or Yahoo!."
I know I can simply create a free AOL/AIM account for this. But how does one get a me.com or mac.com address? Are those old, no-longer-available services?
What do most people use for screen sharing. I've been using my AIM account, but was unable to get it to work yesterday with some people who created new AOL accounts for this purpose, even though I see them online. They don't get my requests, except for one person. And even if she accepts the request we don't get connected. And we can't video chat either.

How do I edit the iCloud account information on my new iPhone 4? I changed in on the iCloud web site, but it still has the old email address on the phone. The address is not able to change...am I missing something?
Also, the first time I started the phone, I put my email address instead of my son's address, now when I try to set up iMessage, it asks for my password associated with my address and not my son's address.

Now the other item...iMessage still have my email address and I want my son's address. I have the iCloud registered with his address, I have not found where I can edit that.

Can't delete or edit a Mail account that is unable to connect and it keeps notifying me and asking for password. Macbook Pro with Yosemite. If I highlight the account and go to Mailboxes, "Edit smart mailbox" is greyed out. Delete the mailbox is an option, but the mailbox just doesn't go away and no error message displayed. Tried Mail/Preferences/Accounts, highlighting account and using minus sign, it tells me the account is shared by other applications and gives me an option to go to Internet Accounts. At Internet Accounts, the only mail account showing is iCloud. Meanwhile, the pesky Mail icon is jumping around the bottom of my screen.
Can anyone help?

Did you ever find a fix for this? Mine is doing exactly the same thing, even with 2.01 - I hoped that might fix it. I'd rather not have to reset and erase the whole phone.

How do I edit my iTunes account and also verify what credit card number I have in my account? Several charges have shown up on my husband's company credit card and I would like to see if they are my charges.

Can't Set Proxy Server For AIM Account

Hi!
In the Messages application, the AIM account has a Server Settings tab where one can opt to connect using a proxy. However, with Mavericks I have found that anything I enter in that field is instantly wiped out. The console logs a message each time:

where "myproxy" is anything one enters into the field.
Any advice?

This issue goes way back in to the history of iChat.
It has never been that good at connecting using Proxies.
It has does slightly better if using the System Settings.
I don't use Proxies and so have never spent any time working though this.
Basically iChat and Messages connecting via a Buddy List is via the AIM servers but is almost Peer-to-Peer in process.
Connections are very linear particularly for Video and Audio chats to the extent that connecting to your router with Ethernet and Wifi is enough to cause issues.
Whilst starting up the app also contacts Apple to test bandwidth (Internet Speed) and support things ready for Video and Audio chats.
It is not just a case of Logging in to AIM.

How to sign into another AIM account?

I must be missing something obvious, I can't find how to switch AIM accounts in iChat and I can't find the instructions on the Apple support pages.
I have ichat 4 with Leopard and when I launch it signs into one of my AIM accounts automatically. The other AIM accounts are listed in the preferences under Accounts. However, I can't figure out how to sign into one of the other accounts.
Can anyone tell me where/how to switch?

Hi,
If in iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts you list several Accounts/Screen Names then the pane on the right when the Account Info tab is highlighted will have a Box to say "Use this Account".
This will then log those Accounts in to the relevant Servers at Launch (But read below).
In the General Section of the Preferences you can set whether iChat Logs Accounts in at Launch or not.
If you have more than one Buddy List open you can "Hide" the one you don't want by using the Red Button to left of the Window. This will not Quit iChat nor will it Log you out of that Screen Name.
NOTE: If you Quit iChat with Buddy List Hidden it will Remember this as the Window Position - the same as if you move a Buddy List and Quit iChat - It will be in the same place you left it.
Use the Window Menu to bring On-line Accounts listed Buddy Lists back into view.

IChat can't communicate with my AIM account

Hi, every time i try go to to my ichat it automatically logs me out, and when i try to log back in, it says "iChat can't communicate with the AIM account 'aforever0203' and The AIM server has temporarily limited your account due to too much activity. Try again in a few minutes" This has been happening for days, please help!

This will not work for newer @me.com and @icloud.com IDs issued under iCloud ( I notice there are at least 2 Me Toos clicked)
With Apple IDs there have been issues over the last few months about accounts getting Suspended when people have travelled to foreign lands.
The "normal" fix with AIM names is to Change the Password but obviously changing the Apple Passwords cannot be seen by AIM.
In that case you need This link about Suspended accounts and you need to use the TOS General email address.
(You need to explain very carefully that you have an Apple ID and that AIM cannot see any Password Change and that they will have to reset the account manually - some support staff seem not to know that Apple have an agreement that Apple IDs are also AIM Valid Names)
If it is a plain AIM name a Password reset should correct the issue.

How to ichat using bonjour with no AIM account

how do you get ichat to work with bonjour when one user has NO AIM account. This is on a local network in the workplace. Is it even possible? I think it is because I used to work at an Applestore and any computer could chat with any other computer, and I know they weren't using AIM names.

I have an AIM account.
I have a window with the title "AIM buddy list"
Both my Bonjour window AND my AIM window mirror my "away" setting. when one says away, the other says away. OK.
But in prefs, there is a setting when the Bonjour account is selected that says, "When iChat opens, automatically log in". Do you have to "log in" to Bonjour. AIM is automatic.
that is now checked in Bonjour. Does sharing or anything else need to be turned on.
There is also a check box to "publish my email and IM address".
In my AIM account, I have to add people to my buddy list. How do you add someone to your Bonjour list.

AIM account frequently disconnects from Messages 7.0

So i got the new Macbook Pro Retina Display and i got the free upgrade from Lion to Mountain Lion. I filled in all my account details and all that on to my Messages and it works just fine, except for the fact that my AIM account disconnects frequently and for about 10 - 15 minute periods of time. It worked fine on the old iChat on my previous Macbook which was running Snow Leopard. Is anyone else getting this? Any solutions?

I would start in Messages Menu > Preferences > Accounts and the AIM account in question
Log out (Untick the "Enable this Account" box).
Go to the Server Settings tab
Untick the SSL option.
The AIM SSL servers can drop the connection more often that the regular ones.
Also if the SSL connection is lost messages (or iChat) need manually reconnecting as a SSL reconnection is not automatic like the regular server is.
If that does not work I would delete the com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist
I would phrase the way to ge there as
In the Finder use the Go Menu
Hold down ALT key
Select the Library that appears
Open Preferences and find file
Drag to Trash
Restart Messages
