Edit occurs somewhere else in timeline in fcp x

I've been having a strange problem in fcp x 10.0.9, and it has transferred over to 10.1 Essentially, when I do an insert edit, rather than placing the clip at the playhead, the new clip is placed at the previous edit point. And where the playhead actually was, a frame of another clip is appended to the clip behind it. Additionally, in 10.1 now other portions of the timeline suddenly need to be rendered again. This behavior occurs whether you use the keyboard shortcut, drag the clip down, or click on the insert button.
Troubleshooting so far:
1.Trashed preferences under 10.0.9
2. Removed and re-installed 10.0.9
3. Upgraded to 10.1
4. Trashed prefs for 10.1
5. Removed and re-installed 10.1
6. Reduced the number of clips by moving stills into aperture.
7. Exported an xml for the project, then imported it into another library.
8. Copied the library to another drive rule out a drive issue. (I was using a Drobo 5d via thunderbolt, then tried a LaCie thunderbolt drive.
The only other clue, is the error/warning screen when I was importing the xml:
I've been struggling with this for a month now. Any new ideas are greatly appreciated. I'm very close to starting over.

#try disabling McAfee site advisor if you have it installed
#if that helps then try updating it to the very latest version
Also you mention Beta versions of Firefox. If there is any possibility that you have been using multiple versions of Firefox, then note it would be a good idea to ensure each is used in its own separate and unique [[profiles|profile]]

Is there a way to edit each frame as an Image in FCP

Hello Folks,
Just wondering how can I edit each frame as an image in FCP pro... let's say my cam shoots @ 24fps and I import that to FCP, well how can I import these 24frames into a photo editing program such as PhotoShop so I edit each frame and color correct and stuff like that? Also how would I bring it back each frame to FCP?
What is this process called? Frame editing? I'm not familiar with this because I was told it is duable, i know in Adobe Premier the frames export to a folder where you can edit each image in watever program you want and bring them back to adobe.
So how can I do this in FCP?

just for clarity:
whilst there is indeed a direct Export option, there is no direct Import option. For Export: use FCP's File > Export > Using Quicktime Conversion.. >> Image Sequence option
For Import you can first use Quicktime Player's File > Open Image Sequence... option, and export it out to the codec of the original clip/sequence using the File > Export... option. After that you can then import that clip back into FCP.
its worth noting that this is not "roundtripping", there is no invisible link between the exported frames and the master clip/sequence

No I don't have another computer. I was thinking initially I would put them on my ipad but since I don't have enough gb maybe I can store them in some cloud thing? Sorry am a bit of a Luddite when it comes to all this. I just need to have them stored someplace and accessible to play when I need to. Thanks for your help.

The SMTP service cannot run on the Exchange server. You can run it on a SharePoint server, or a stand alone server and share out the drop directory over SMB.

Firefox 4 will not let me keep my bookmarks listed on the side bar. I can open them there but once I click somewhere else they go away.

Firefox 4 will not let me keep my bookmarks listed on the side bar. I can open them there but once I click somewhere else they go away. On previous Firefox versions I could display my bookmark folders down the left side of my screen and just leave them there, accessing saved bookmarks when I needed to. Now with FF4 I can open a vertical column of my bookmark folders by clicking on bookmarks in the navigation bar but this won't stay there; if I click elsewhere they disappear. I could put a bookmark toolbar on my screen but this takes up more vertical space. I have lots of horizontal space that's unused. How can I go back to the display of bookmarks in previous versions?

You can fix that by going to View -> Sidebar and click on Bookmarks.
Or you could simply use a shortcut

You might be able to achieve what you want by using Party Shuffle. Set the source for Party Shuffle to be the playlist you want to listen to or add the tracks you want to listen to by control clicking on them and selecting Add to Party Shuffle. Once everything is in Party Shuffle, you can rearrange them to your satisfaction. As the songs are played, they'll roll off the queue. You can quit iTunes and even when you restart, all your songs will be there, in the order you want, waiting for you to hit play.

I need to send encoded Blu Ray File to be Burned somewhere else?

Usually I click burn Blu ray in Final Cut’s share feature and I run it all the way through to create disc.
Now I would like to send the encoded file to get burnt somewhere else.
What would be the best recommended way to do this and keep the menu intact and what would they need to burn the Blu Ray disk, they have Final Cut Studio as well.

Updating from the ipod itself is a feature of ios 5 or later.
You would need to update as always. Turn on computer, open itunes, connect ipod.
The first gen ipod will only go to 3.1.3

Brushes in PS CS5 paints somewhere else?

Hi, I am using Photoshop CS5 to paint my textures and sometimes when I do a brush stroke, Photoshop is painting that brush stroke somewhere else on the canvas, NOT where I am painting.
This is really weird, I have never heard of any glitch/bug like that before, it also does the same with any other similiar tool like the eraser and clone stamp.
I am not even using custom brushes, just the standard photoshop brush. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it a known bug in CS5?
I am using Photoshop CS5 x64 on a Windows 7 machine. Please respond if you know what may be wrong. Thanks!

This has happened when video card drivers are not up to date.
Check the web site of the card manufacturer (not the computer manufacturer or Windows) for the latest drivers and install them.

Expense reporting, get values from column and return only unique values somewhere else

i would like check a column for the values it contains (expense categorizations) and then return a list of only the unique values somewhere else in a vertical list. So "gasoline" may be listed 12 times in the reference list but in my result listing i would expect it to only show up once. If there is a way to do this then I would also like to know how empty cells are handled.
I will then be applying a SUMIF to the returned list to get totals for all the unique categorization a have specified.

Deleting the first row made your $F$2 become $F$1.
Explaining how a formula works is not so easy to do. I'll try, but the best way is to read up on the formulas and piece it all together. There's nothing fancy or tricky going on here.
The "active ingredient" in the formula is this piece: OFFSET('Table 1-2'::$F$1,SMALL('Table 1-2'::G,ROW()−1)−1,0)
ROW() returns the row number of the cell that has the formula in it. It is an easy way to get an ever increasing number for the formula. The other way would be to have another column with 1,2,3,4, etc. in it. So, ROW() will return the number 1 if the formula is in row 1, will return the number 2 in row 2, etc.
SMALL(range, n) returns the nth smallest number from the given range of numbers. So, for the formula in row 2, SMALL('Table 1-2'::G, ROW()−1) becomes SMALL('Table 1-2'::G, 1) which will return the 1st smallest number from the G column of Table 1-2. In the 3rd row it would return the 2nd smallest number. Etc. And remember that those numbers it is returning are the row numbers of your unique values in Table 1-2.
OFFSET(base, row offset, column offset) is a way of referencing a cell. For instance, OFFSET($F$1,1,0) would be one row down from cell F1. OFFSET($F$1,2,3) would be two rows down and three columns to the right of cell F1. The SMALL formula has given you the row number for a unique value in your Table 1-2. To reference the correct row, the row offset from F1 needs to be one less than that number (an offset of 0 = cell F1. An offset of 1 = cell F2, etc.). The column offset is zero.

Because whoever programmed it must be ********, I've dealt with this issue long enough. I've sent Apple feedback on this issue long ago and nothing has been done yet. The only work around is to try and remember that every time you double click in the punch line to hit the c button to turn it off before you start recording or you have to drag your punch line around all the time, what a pain in the ***.

Boris 3D text editing window won't open without deleting FCP preferences

So, in my FCP7 projects, the Boris 3D text editing window won't open without deleting FCP preferences first. I've tried new projects, old projects, open all new windows on top settings. Once I delete the preferences, viola, opens right up. I can rebuild my preferences and after just a few days it won't open again... without preference delete.
I'm on a Macbook Pro 17'" i7 and do most of my editing on a 27" Apple Cinema Display. This is the only reason I could come up with. However I did some editing from the Macbook's screen and after 1 day, the Boris 3D editing window again refused to open. I have no idea. Is this is a known bug, etc.?

With Final Cut not running, trash the Boris Title 3D preference file.
/Library/Preferences/Title 3D Preferences
Also, you could have a corrupt or duplicate font file. Open FontBook and check it out.

Open a page by Firefox 5.0 then copy some texts. Close the Firefox. Try to paste texts somewhere else. Firefox can't keep data alive in windows XP clipboard...

If you used Sync to do that "import", disable Sync for at least one of those Profiles.

Thank you for your suggestion. I have Sync enabled for all the profiles. To my surprise, however, Sync was of no use in getting Default's extension collection into Shopping. For that I had to resort to the article http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox.
I will try disabling Sync on Shopping.
