"Edit original" for JPEG opens Preview, not Photoshop?

When I right-click on a JPEG in InDesign CS 5 and then select "edit original", it opens the photo in Preview. Is there a way to set the default application associated with JPEGs to Photoshop?
Thanks

Oh, I see. I was hoping there might be a separate function for ID because I generally like to open JPEGs quickly in Preview. I guess I'll just stick with the contextual menu and scroll to Photoshop. Not a big deal.
Thanks!

  • Edit Original fails to open image in Photoshop

For some unknown reason, when using the Edit Original function in InDesign, it will open Photoshop but then fails to open the image. Same results when using Edit with. Will work with Preview and Acrobat. Any solutions?
    CS4 on Mac OSX 10.6

    Hi Steve
Finally solved the issue. It was down to InDesign. I had to completely uninstall InDesign and its preferences, then reinstall from disc. The installation had errors so after a restart and reinstallation, downloading updates etc. it now works!! Not sure what is was actually down to though.

  • I use Photoshop Elements 11 to print panoramas. Works for jpeg images but not tiff. Suggestions?

I use Photoshop Elements 11 to print panoramas. It works for jpeg images but not for tiff images. Seems strange because PSE11 manages tiff images in all other processes. Anyone fared better?

    Thank you for your trouble.
My images are not usually layered and the particular case I am about to quote, it is not. The dimensions are 10,546 x 2,790 and the image has 16.7 mbs. I use 8 bit colour. When I set up the print screens for tiff, everything is normal until I get to the last screen with the image set upon the photo paper. Then the paper size indicated with the image refuses to budge from the A4 size, so the panorama gets printed on that. I consulted the Adobe chat line and the expert could 't get it to work either. So he came to the conclusion that the tiff capability had not been extended to printing panoramas. In seeking advice, I thought someone might refer me to an updating patch!
Well done! You have confounded the system!  I could not find any control that would override the setting.

  • Edit original for linked file

Why does Illustrator take me to Preview instead of Photoshop when I go to Edit Original for a linked Photoshop file?

This is actually controlled by the Mac OS, and easily corrected by doing a CMD I on any file, and changing the application for Open With.
In this example I have set all my .psd files to open in Photoshop CS4.
A useful keyboard shortcut for edit original: hollow arrow tool double click on a linked image on your canvas.

  • Edit original command doesnt open Photoshop.

    Hi
Edit original command opens PSD files in ACDsee software instead of Photoshop, how can I correct it? I think I installed ACDsee after Photoshop, is it necessary to uninstall Photoshop and install it again or there is better solution?
    Thanks for any help

Rt click on the psd file in Windows Explorer, Open With..., Select Photoshop and select Always open with.
You may need to restart AE to update the file association.

  • Displaying photos in Preview not Photoshop

When I select a photo in Pictures, it displays in Photoshop.
How do I set Pictures so photos will display through Preview and not Photoshop?
    Thanks.
    Vernon

    Vernon,
I don't know of a batch way to do it (Photoshop does batch conversion, but it won't handle this problem).
For the future, however, I have found that if I bring a jpg file into Photoshop for editing, and make any edits which produce layers then when it is saved it will be stamped with Photoshop as the creater application. The solution is to flatten the image in Photoshop before saving it. Select Layer==>Flatten Image to do this. The resulting file will not be stamped as a Photoshop file, and should open with Preview (assuming you have set that as the default standard for files with jpg as the extension). Of course, you give up the option to do editing on layers when you flatten the image.
If you decide to save a file using SAVE AS it also makes it a Photoshop file. To avoid this, make a copy of the file with the Finder to keep the current version and use Photoshop to save the original after you have made the edits. This avoids using SAVE AS.
There may be a better way around this problem. If so, I hope someone posts it.

  • Why are jpegs opening up in photoshop...

hi... i'm not sure if this will make sense... i'm trying to make a disc of pictures that i have exported as Jpegs from iphoto to my desktop. these are photos that i have edited in photoshop, saved on my desktop as jpegs and transferred to iphoto (because as far as i know there's no way to save from photoshop to iphoto). so a while later i want to make a disc of some of them so i am exporting them as jpegs from iphoto to my desktop. i then am making a burn folder and burning a disc of them. MY QUESTION IS.. how come when i put the disc in either of my macs and click on a photo it is opening it up in photoshop? THESE ARE JPEGS so i don't get it. this disc i am making is for someone else and i want to make sure that they will be able to access these photos.
    thanks in advance.

thanks for the prompt response- what i want to have happen when i click on the jpeg is that it opens the file on my desktop, not photoshop. am i hearing that if you've done any editing in photoshop, even if you save it as a jpeg, it will always open in photoshop? is there a way to change that? i'm just worried that the person i'm giving the disc to will have a hard time accessing the file. it seems like a pain if it's opening in photoshop--do they then have to resave it themselves as a jpeg to get it out of photoshop so that they can upload the file and get prints? when i tried the disc on my husbands computer, it opened in adobe photoshop and my husband has never even used that.  before i had PS i would just export them to the desktop from iphoto and it just opened them up on the desktop. it's weird that these photos have been imported into iphoto but they're still opening up in PS. again, is there a way to change this? sorry if this doesn't make sense.

  • Adobe Credentials for NW04s Snreak Preview not fully working

It seems like the Adobe Interactive Form credential file provided from SDN (https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/softwaredownload?download=https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/business_packages/a1-8-4/adobe_credential_sneakpreview_nw04.zip&df=0) for NW04s Sneak Preview doesn't allow for Data Submit (HTTP submit or SOAP Submit).
Therefore the usage of the Adobe for Interactive Forms is quite limited. For example while the generation of an interactive form in Guided Procedures works, submitting the form to start a Guided Procedure is not working. Or call Enterprise Services from an Adobe Interactive Form is not working...
Is it possible to get an updated credential file out there on SDN?
Maybe I did something wrong. Did anybody successfully created an interactive form and submitted data via HTTP or SOAP using those credentials?
    Thanks, Andre

    Hi André
the credentials provided in SDN have only two differences compared to the production ones you get from SAP: They expire after 4 months, and they create a watermark on each PDF form generated. That means that all functions provided by a production credential are in the SDN ones as well.
So it looks like your application is not correct...

  • Edit original from lightroom 5.3 to Photoshop CC

I am experiencing this error when I try to edit an original file in photoshop cc from lightroom 5.3.  If I select edit a copy, I do not have the same problem.  Checked CC for updates, everything is up to date, and I've restarted my computer over and over again.  Help!

    Hi Bill_EG_B,
You can directly install Photoshop CC following the instructions from the link: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html.
Your existing Creative Suite installation will not be affected by installing the new CC applications. For example, you can install and use both Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC on the same computer.

  • Bridge preferences to open PSElements, not Photoshop

I have Photoshop CS4 and PS8 installed. I want Bridge to open PSE8 only.
Is there a way to change these preferences?

Don't know if you have Bridge for elements or for PS itself installed but In
Bridge PS you have two options to open files in PSE8.
First use right mouse click (or cmd + click) and in the dropdown menu choose
open with - and then search for PSE in the list that appears.
Second go to bridge preferences and look in the list for file type
associations. Inhere choose the file types you want to open in PSE, for
example jpeg or tiff and click on the application that shows right next to
this type. Again you get a drop down menu and inhere you should be able to
change to open with PSE. With this last method you will open the files every
time with PSE until you change it back to another application so this will
    probably be your choice.
I have Photoshop CS4 and PS8 installed. I want Bridge to open PSE8 only.
Is there a way to change these preferences?

  • Open button does not open image in photoshop?

    Am I doing something wrong?
If I edit a CR2 file in Camera Raw 5.1, and the select the open button it does not open the image in Photoshop CS4. Is it not suppose too?
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Thanks in advance
    CoolPix

I saved the old version, just in case I had problems. So I removed the original version, and replaced it with v5.1
I did not try to open the file with Photoshop.
    1. Opened bridge and viewed photos
    2. Right click in bridge, and selected open with ACR
    3. When Camera Raw opened, I edited photo and selected "open"
    4. Photoshop opens, but with NO edited photo.
Now I have made a association in the download folder to open with Photoshop, which opens ACR first, then after editing it now works when I select open it opens in Photoshop.
If you read my last post, my quetion is "why does it not open from my method I used originally in Bridge?
I hope this is clear enough.

  • Edit Original function

It used to be that when I right-clicked on an image and selected Edit Original, the image opened in Photoshop. However, suddenly it's started opening in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer instead. I'm pretty sure I didn't change anything, so I'm really confused. Any suggestions of what might have happened? And is there a way to change it back without changing my file associations? I'm in CS3 in Windows.

It's also possible that only some image types are associated with Photoshop. By default, most image types get assigned to picture and fax viewer.
Why do care if the association is changed permanently? Do you want them to open in picture and fax viewer when you double click in explorer? If not, go ahead an fix them.

  • Edit colors for all pages in a multipage PDF

    Hi,
I have a PDF with 189 pages. Each page is an scanned image. Unfortunately, all the pages are too dark and I would like to increase the contrast of each and all of them. Is there any way to do this to the whole PDF, or do I have to do it page by page (select the image in the page with the TouchUp Object tool, right click, select Edit Image, which will open it in Photoshop, where I edit the image and save it)?
    Thanks

You may be able to do that with JavaScript (check the scripting forum for help there). Otherwise, I think I remember such in the preflight options. At least worth a check.

  • Anomalies in CS5 when using edit original on Illustrator files from within InDesign

Using the Edit Original function to open up a placed Illustrator file from an InDesign layout, we are seeing some strange things. If the image is placed on page at 100%, after editing via Edit Original it comes back in at a different size. Sometimes it is a silly size (99.999999999% or 100.000000002%), other times 2 or 3% smaller. Is anyone else seeing this - and, if so, is there a fix?

We are also experiencing this with .psd .ai .eps .jpg files etc. etc. etc.
    Example:
An image is placed in a box in InDesign, then resized and positioned. In a later stage the image needs editing, so the image is selected and we click on Edit Original. The image opens in either PS or ILL, we alter it (not sizewise, just color). Then we save it and the link in InDesign updates.
    BUT
The position and the scale of the image most often CHANGES.
CS5 is soo full of bugs, it is not even funny anymore. We are slowly moving our studio back to CS3.

    HI,
You are not clear on what you are asking. If you have run the depreciation and trying to edit the same doucmnet in AB02 it is not possible.
If at all any changes to depreciation terms are happened or new assets were acquired you can run repeat run for the period.
