Edit original with hard link

Hi
I re install adobe with a new graphic card after problem related to extended but not in the default path .
In dreamweaver CS6  when insert a smartobject  psd file  and useright clcik contextual  menu for select  "edit original with " ( to have acces to original psd not the image use in html page ) .
Dreamweaver show me "unable to launch ... Photoshop.exe " .
I can choose  browse to the the real photohsop.exe location but my choice is not save  !!
1) why adobe developper use static hard link when implemented this functionnalities ?
2) is there a way to set a custom path to photoshop in the DW setting ?
3) DW is higly customizable  , does this issue is documented  in adobe documentation ?
4) smart object is limited if we  have acces only to the whole psd view not part of it like directory or specific layer  !!
5) i hope this value is not store in binary file ( dll ) but  rather in text format ( file or in registry  ) and thus it can be edit  easely !

hi i fint it easely and i change many  location value in regedit after find the default value under   ( fr_FR language)
Ordinateur\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Dreamweaver CS6\Helper applications Preferences\Editor GroupX

  • When I click "Edit Original" in the links panel it opens MICROSOFT PAINT!

When I click "Edit Original" with a jpeg selected in the links panel it opens Microsoft Paint! In Windows (7) the file association is Windows Picture Viewer (NOT Paint!) and in Bridge it is associated with Photoshop CC. In InDesign we have the option of choosing which program to edit linked files with. In Illustrator we are stuck with the astounding Paint! Why?? 17 versions and this still bugs me!

    Thanks Mylenium.
I know how to change the default program associated with an extension (I would like to keep picture viewer as the default open option for JPG) but I don't know how I change the EDIT association (currently Paint for JPG) in Win 7.
And it would be much more useful if AI could just give us the option of setting defaults (as Bridge does) OR AI could just use Bridge's defaults OR give us an "Open with" option as in Indesign. So many possible solutions, I've feature-requested this on occasions since CS1, it works in other Adobe apps, so I can only think Adobe is wilfully ignoring this issue for Irritator.

  • RAW DNG sequence / Edit Original with ACR within Premier

I need to speak to a Adobe Premier expert. I have a RAW DNG sequence shot on my Canon 5d Mark 3 via Magic Lantern imported into my premier project now. I want to edit the DNG's image settings with ACR (adobe camera raw). So i right click on my DNG sequence / clip and go to Edit - Original . ACR pops up and i make my image modifications. I click ok but the DNG sequence doesnt change, its stays the same.
Now i can do all this without trouble within After Effects, but it just adds another step to my workflow. When it should be working within Premier. Im still waiting to see if ACR will ever work directly within Premier.

Maybe whoever answers your question can give me some insight. I imported my DNG sequences to After Effects, because Premier wouldn't import the DNG sequences,  and created a new comp for each of the shots I have. Later in Premier I imported all those AE comps. Now where would be the correct place to color correct and grade this? Straight in Premier? Or will I be loosing the flexibility of the DNGs? Should I do it instead in the AE comps? Or maybe it doesn't matter? Thanks for the help!

  • Why no 'Edit Original' with raw or dng files?

Is there a reason Lightroom does not allow the ability to use an external editor on the original raw/dng file? Why force people to use the Capture NX raw converter if they would like to use their camera specific converter instead?

This is a great point. There are many instances where I need to use a camera manufacturer's conversion software because I am unable to get similar results in Lightroom (Still a problem in LR3 - many posts about this in these forums).
I was going to write about a tip for a workaround, but instead I actually uncovered a very unfortunate behavior in LR3.
Previously, in LR2.x, you could drag any thumbnail from the Grid view onto the app of your choice in the dock. It would immediately open the original file (including RAW images) in that editor, and you could then save a Tiff to be re-imported into LR, or whatever you wanted to do. It was great flexibility, and got around having the formal ability to assign an external editor for RAW files (which by the way I agree, is necessary functionality, and should be included).
NOW, in LR3, this behavior has been shut down. You can no longer drag thumbnails from the grid view onto an external editor.
Adobe Lightroom team - this is a huge mistake. Please restore the old functionality. You should know - trying as hard as you do, your RAW rendering is still not the only game in town. I own your product, along with five other RAW editing applications. Sometimes I need to try each one to see how a particular image works out. I still prefer to use Lightroom as my cataloging software. This will change if you start to close things down to force users to stay in your ecosystem.
Apple Aperture takes a similar approach - when you drag an image onto an application, you only open a jpeg preview of that image, not the original RAW file. This is one of the reasons I ditched Aperture and moved to Lightroom. I liked the flexibility. Now that this has been taken away, it gives me another reason to consider passing on this upgrade. Please give this some thought. You do not have all the answers for RAW rendering, and realistically, unless camera manufacturers standardize, you probably never will. Give us back our flexibility, or better yet, build it in formally as the original poster suggested.

Thank you for your quick response but it still doesn't work. Below is the url I've used; Could you please suggest if there's anything wrong ?

  • Edit original for linked file

Why does Illustrator take me to Preview instead of Photoshop when I go to Edit Original for a linked Photoshop file?

This is actually controlled by the Mac OS, and easily corrected by doing a CMD I on any file, and changing the application for Open With.
In this example I have set all my .psd files to open in Photoshop CS4.
A useful keyboard shortcut for edit original: hollow arrow tool double click on a linked image on your canvas.

  • Edit original in it's native format

This is a quickie, I am sure.... How do I adjust it so that when I choose to "edit original" in the links panel, it opens the link it it's native format instead of preview?

On the Mac, InDesign will open the file in whatever application the Finder would use to open it. You can set the application by selecting an image of the same type in the Finder, opening a "Get Info" window on it, selecting your desired app from the "Open With" popup menu, and finally pressing the "Change All..." button right below that. For some reason, the Finder periodically loses its mind about these associations, and has to be reminded.
In InDesign CS4, there is an "Open With..." menu item right below "Edit Original" which permits you to chose the editing app on an image by image basis.

  • Edit original/Edit with opens PS or AI from Time Machine backup

In the last days this strange problem accured in InDesign CS4. If I right click and select "Edit original" or "Edit with" for a EPS or PSD linked file, InDesign opens Photoshop or Illustrator from a Time Machine backup image instead of the default location (Applications folder in Mac OS X).
It's really annoying, because most of the time I already have Photoshop and Illustrator running, but if I select "Edit original" it runs another instance of PS or AI.
    What should I do?

OK, I have a partial solution. A kind fellow has written a virtual filesystem for Linux specifically to read Time Machine drives: https://github.com/abique/tmfs. Simply installing this utility allows me to browse the hard link structure of Time Machine without manually delving into the '.HFS+\ Private\ Directory\ Data^M' folders. I'm currently copying out all of the files onto a second external hard drive, and hopefully this will recovery my data. A bazillion thanks to abique!
Of course, this doesn't track down my hardware problem, but I think it's best to retire this external hard drive entirely. I think the problem is with the drive or the enclosure and not with my MBP, since I attempted to copy the data onto a different MBP and had the same errors.
    Steps:
    - Install TMFS, available in the Ubuntu Software Manager.
    - Find the initial mount point of the Time Machine drive. For me, it was /media/<username>/<long string of random letters and numbers>.
    - Re-mount the time machine drive using the virtual filesystem. I also had to make a folder corresponding to the new mount point by hand, for some reason:
    > sudo mkdir /mnt/tm-root
    > sudo tmfs /media/username/4be78be9-cc68-32b4-9683-72c2209d11be /mnt/tm-root -ouid=$(id -u),gid=$(id -g),allow_other
    - The Time Machine partition is now browsable (read-only) at /mnt/tm-root in a terminal, instead of not recognizing the hard links.

  • InDesign v 3.0 -- Linked files & Edit Original command problems

I am running InDesign v 3.0 and Photoshop CS5 on a new Mac Pro.  When I use the Links pallet, after having selected a linked image with the black arrow, and choose "Edit Original", the image file will open in Apple Preview, rather than in Photoshop CS5.  How do I specify it to open in PSCS5?  Also, the "Update Link" menu is always greyed out so I cannot select it.  Thanks!

In the Finder, select the image type you want to open in Photoshop (TIFF, JPEG, etc.). Choose File > Info.  In the Open With section, choose Photoshop CS5 from the list of applications. Click Change All.

  • Edit Original not working for PSD links

Ok, so I just recently upgraded to CS3 from CS2 and am still getting used to some of the changes that were made. For some reason, I keep having this problem:
In the links panel, you can click on a link and click "Edit Original" to open the file in whichever program it was created in, of course. This is a feature I use ALL THE TIME. Well, for some reason, my CS3 grays out the Edit Original icon on the links panel whenever I select a .psd link. Jpeg, fine. Eps, no sweat. Ai file, not a problem. But once I select a .psd file, the icon grays out. And this is for ALL linked .psd files.
Anyone had this problem or know of a possible solution? I just hope it's not something dreadfully obvious...

First thing to check: will Windows open Photoshop if you click on a file in Explorer?
Check that you have .PSD correctly associated with Photoshop in Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > File Types

  • Livetrace - edit original in links

Hi, I want to use the "edit original" function inside illustrator, so my picture will open
in photoshop, and the changes I make there will be saved in Illustrator. But when I choose edit original
, it opens paint - how do I change this? And yes I have checked the link-box when selecting the image. I have windows 7 if
    it matters.

    rwlkdsajfl wrote:
its simple select file type extension for e.g you are working on jpg or tiff format if your file is tiff just select tiff click on it then right click then open with option there is chose program and then in drop down list select photoshop and remember tick mark on always use the selected program to open the kind of file
    finished
just in illustrator alt+double click will open file in photoshop as a link
The Op wrote they did not aways wan the images to open in photoshop.
    But You are close.
before working with the file click on the icon and go to the properties as indicated before and select the photoshop as the default application to open the file in.
But do not mark it to open all similar files leave that unchecked.
Now the place it in Illustrator and then when you go to edit it will open in Photoshop, inconvenient yes, but the only way I know you have to remember to change the default launch app back to the original app.

  • How do I duplicate hard links when copying with Finder rather than making two copies of the file?

I have 1.6 TB of Video on one external drive. All of this was imported using iMovie and lives mostly in iMovie events. I then decided I wanted to use Final Cut Pro X for some additional flexibility.
I opened FCPx and imported the iMovie events and movies. As I expected, FCPx made hard links to the files in the iMovie events rather than wholesale copying the events into the original content area. I have found that it is much easier to keep all movie content on one disk rather than having is spread all over creation, so I am trying to make a copy on another larger drive.
I am trying to use Finder to copy the files rather than some other more obtrusive option using the actual applications. The problem is, when I use the finder Copy function, all files that had hard links in the file system are now phyiscally copied twice and are actually duplicated on the new disk. This doubles the size of the the content on the new disk and completely ruins the reason for moving the files in the first place.
Now that I have finally figured out what is going on, I guess I can figure out the proper Unix style commands in the Terminal to make happen what I expect, but I would much rather have Finder duplicate a link if it finds a link. I really want to be able to use iMovie or FCPx on the Event content and only have one copy of the content unless I want to make a modification in one or the other.

    Mark,
I have had a similar problem lately.  I use rsync to perform nightly backups from one internal drive to another.  I noticed (after I started using Final Cut Pro X) that my backup drive had 300G more disk space allocated.  It was only after a long and painful debugging process that I figured out that FCPX had created hard links to my iMovie Events.  I don't have a solution to this problem yet but I wanted to at least mention that I have run into the same challenge.
    Regards,

  • FCE rendering with Western Edition MyBook External Hard Drive

So i am having some difficulty with this project i am working on (i am learning as i go) and was wondering if anyone can shed some light...
Ok, so i am using final cut express to edit video footage. I uploaded about 2 1/2 hours worth of HD footage into my hard drive and realized that it took up pretty much all of my memory...
So i bought a Western Edition MyBook external hard drive and i imported all of my files into it and that cleared up my memory on my labtop.....
But now, when i try rendering the movie in order to turn it into a DVD, instead of the render file going to the hard drive, it seems that its still going to my computer's hard drive. I mean, the quicktime movie logo shows up on the external hard drive, but each time i check my computer's hard drive, the GB keeps lowering instead of the external hard drive. I dont know if this is normal or not. Does this make sense????
If you think i am doing this right or wrong please let me know....I appreciate any help!!!Thanks.....

  • Why is the option to choose to edit with lightroom adjustment or edit original missing

I am currently using Lightroom 3 and Photoshop Cs4.
Usually when I open file in photoshop from lightroom, I will be asked to choose to edit with lightroom adjustment or to edit original file. However, today, the options were missing, and the file directly opens without lightroom adjustment in photoshop. Is there a setting that I can change? Thanks.

Is there any chance that you sometime checked a "Don't show again" box on the dialogue?
Try pushing the "Reset all warning dialogs" button on the General tab of your Preferences.
