"Edit photo in CS 5" command from lightroom crashes CS5
Using Lihgroom 3 - MAC OS X 10.6.8.
From the develpoe module I will mouse click control - chose "Edit Photo in CS 5" with lightroom adjustments. CS5 Opens briefly but when the pictures begins to display CS5 crashes. I have been using Lightreoom and CS5 for about a year without problem. Suddenyl, for no apparent reason all this started. I haven't added any addtional software to computer. Any ideas?

An update. I found an article at http://blog.widen.com/blog/industrial-retouch-and-color. Discussed are crashes in CS5 in OS X 10.6.4. I am now using 10.6.7, but was experiencing this problem before updating to 10.6.7. At any rate, the article talkes about problems in the OpenGL, and one suggestion is to switch to Basic OpenGL ( in preferences) from Normal mode. This of course until there is an updates fix. I did do this and now I am able to open all files under the Edit photo in CS5 without crashing. Don't know enough about all this, but whatever it did, my crashes are gone for now. Thank you again for your input.

Image will not load from lightroom to CS5
I am having an issue with external editing from lightroom to CS5! From develope>edit in CS5>images does not load! CS5 loads but the MAC finder app comes up asking me to choose a file! Never have I seen this. I looked into the preferences and the external editing, but its in the external editing already. Help!
Make sure your external editor settings link to the application in support files (hidden on Lion) rather than a shortcut.

Difficult to edit an image in Photoshop CC from Lightroom 5
When I try to edit an image sent from Lightroom 5 to Photoshop CC I always get a runtime error (R6034). If I say ok about 20 times then Photoshop opens as well as the image being ok. What can I do?

I have 30,000 images in Aperture and it keeps crashing. I've run out of memory on my MacBook Pro running 10.8.6 and I want to switch over to Lightroom for all new photos and slowly migrate my best ones over to LR as well. I've edited many of my best shots already, probably 6000 or more, so I need to feel confident that cropping, editing, rating, and metadata will all migrate successfully.
Also, can I load the Lightroom itself onto an external hard drive and keep all my images off my laptop? If I edit them, do the edits remain on my laptop regardless of where the originals reside. I think that's the issue that I'm running into with Aperture: edits stay on my laptop even though originals are on an external HD.

Your photos can be on any hard disk, internal or external or network. If they are stored on an external hard disk, then when you import them into Lightroom, you select the ADD option and the photo will remain on your external hard disk. The edits are stored in your Lightroom catalog (as opposed to "remain on my laptop"). Once you import photos into Lightroom, you no longer want to manage them (move, copy, delete) using your operating system. You do all photo management in Lightroom.
If you transfer the photos properly, your edits, cropping, metadata, etc. will transfer to Lightroom, but I will leave the details to some expert on Aperture.
If I could offer some advice, I don't think you want to just transfer SOME of your photos to Lightroom. In my opinion, you want ALL of your photos managed by Lightroom, and not some in application 1 and some in application 2. This makes your life much easier when trying to find your photos, you don't have to think "Is this photo in Lightroom or is this in Aperture?" (Note: this doesn't mean you have to import all the photos from Aperture into Lightroom in one HUGE operation; you can certainly do the importing in manageable sized groups) -
Edited photos in LR 4 not moving over to CS5
I just upgraded to Lightroom 4 this week and am haing trouble getting CS5 to open the Lightroom-edited photos. For example, if I adjust the exposure, clarity, etc. in LR 4 and then hit command E to take the file over to Photoshop for further editing, CS5 isn't opening that edited file. It is opening the original file that was imported into LR 4 but not the edited version. These are RAW files.
Interestingly, all of the older files that I originally edited in LR 3 (they have now been moved into the LR4 catalog) will still move over from LR4 to CS5 when I hit command E. Only the files that were imported from my camera card directly into LR 4 aren't cooperating.
Any ideas?
JasonWhen you hit Cmd + E - or right-click the photo and select Edit in CS5 you should get a dialog box that gives you two options:
1) <Open anyway>, and
2) <Render using Lightroom>.
If you select (1) CS5 will open the original without Lr adjustments,
if you select (2) Lr will send a PSD to CS5 with all your Lr adjustments.
If you don't get this dialog because you have suppressed it, go >Edit >Preferences >General tab, and under the section "prompts" click on <Reset all warning dialogs>. -

I was looking at some old photos from 2012 but when I clicked the files (.dng) instead of opening with the sliders for LR5, it opened sliders for I believe LR4. How do I get those older photos to open under LR5 sliders and not older versions of LR?

The quickest way to update just one photo is to click the lightning bolt icon under the histogram in the Develop module. This can be more convenient than scrolling all the way down to the Calibration tab.
A quick way to update a whole batch of them is to select any number of them in Grid view, and then choose Photo > Develop Settings > Convert to Current Process. The AutoSync way works too, as long as you remember to turn it off immediately after you're done.
Like JimHess suggests, I don't automatically convert them all at once, but on a case by case basis because they don't always look better after conversion. The benefits of the new process version can potentially make them look better, but you usually have to do a few more adjustments to get them there. If you don't have time to do that yet but you need to use the existing images soon, leave them in the old process version for now. -
How can i save more than 1 edited photo to my camera roll from my ipad's iphoto

I don't get the same results. Basically, after I tap the Share button, Camera Roll, and then "Choose" it only lets me choose one photo to save to the camera roll at a time. I even tried tapping the settings (gear) icon first, then tapped "Select Multiple..." then tapping the Share button - but it goes back to only allowing me to tap one thumbnail to share to my camera roll. I have edited a ton of photos by copying / pasting the color, exposure, and effect settings from one photo to a selection of multiple photos. It seems strange that I then have to only save one photo to my camera roll at a time. I'm probably missing something obvious...

I'm losing date photo was taken when exporting from Lightroom.
The photo taken date is being replaced with the date that I'm processing the photo with Lightroom. The photos I'm currently working with were taken over 10 years ago with an early generation Olympus digital camera. Does this have anything to do with my problem? I must be doing something incorrectly, can anyone give me advice. T
Rob - I am working with old images from an early generation digital camera but yes the image capture date does show correctly in Lightroom for most of these images. However, I just realized thinking about your question that some of the photos could be scanned from a film image and do not how a capture date in Lightroom. The exif data is entirely different for these. The photo processors I used in those days were providing a CD along with the negatives / prints so I may have just answered my own question. Thanks for the questions and help to both.

I can't get edited photos to transfer to iPad from iPhoto, only the origina
I have edited some pictures in iPhoto but when I transfer my pics to my iPad, only the original unedited photo transfers. How do I get the new edited pic to transfer.
I am having the same issue...I fixed a ton of red-eye's in iphoto and would love to not see them on my new ipad..

After the installation of CC 2014, I can't start an editing of an image into Ps from Lightroom.
When I choose Edit into ... Photoshop CC 2014, Ps is launched but nothing happens.
I just can launch an edit as advanced object and in this case the image appears into Ps.
Any suggestions ?
Marco LugliUninstall and reinstall PS CC 2014. This fixes things for most people with this problem and there are many.

Photo Layers won't open in element 12, from Lightroom 5
I have tried exporting photos into elements as layers (From Lightroom) , once elements opens, nothing is showing. Curious if I am doing something wrong. If I just open the photos in elements and put them as layeres manually, it works fine. I was just under the assumption I could do it from light room as well.(the option is given hence the assumption) just as a sidenote I did change output from 16-8 bit in preferences, that didn't fix anything, just read that on another site

Edit in Photoshop CS6 from Lightroom 4.1 fails
I am using LR 4.1 and PS CS6 on a Win7 64bit system. Previously with LR3 and LR4 I was able to "Edit in Photoshop" from Lightroom to CS5 and all was well. Now with LR4.1 and PS CS6 when I "Edit in Photoshop CS6" I get a partial image. Any image that I try produces various versions of this. The attached screen capture shows a blank area in the upper left corner. Other images have shown several smaller blank areas in various positions on the image, and one image contained several blank areas plus a small inset of the image.
This is quite frustrating, as I generally use LR to crop and make minor adjustments in a photo, then edit some photos in PS. Now I can no longer edit anything in PS without first exporting the image from LR, work on it in PS, then save it and reimport it into LR. Very inconvenient.
Please advise what I am doing wrong or let me know if there is a workaround.

-HerschelThis is probably a video card driver bug which has been reported in the PS forum from time to time. It's a PS problem, not a LR problem.
Assuming this is Windows, go to the video card maker's website and download an updated driver. Don't rely on Windows update; they're frequently several versions behind. On a Mac it would have to be through OS X updates. -
im a newer lightroom 5 user on MAC, but have learned pretty quickly.
I have been editing a set of photos, and while picking up today I forgot to plug my external Lightroom storage disk into my laptop.
Then without thinking I plugged the disk into my laptop hoping the disk would appear and sync.
Right now all i have is a rainbow twirly on the screen.
Not sure what to do.
Can I close Lightroom and save all my edits?
Do I need to unplug the disk and restart lightroom?

Problem solved. It seems that Finder on the MAC was frozen/stalled so it could not see the disk.
I deinstalled the external storage disk, created a folder on the desktop and exported all the photos i was working on from Lightroom to there.
I closed Lightroom (and upgraded to 5.5), killed Finder and restarted my laptop.
Inserted my external Lightroom storage and it was recognized, brought up Lightroom and all was well. -
Why wont Photoshop Elements 11 merge photos from Lightroom 4?
I'm having problems with automatically merging photos in Photoshop Elements 11 from Lightroom 4. I do my editing in LR4 and when I wish to merge photos (either into a pnaorama or HDR image) all that happens is that PSE11 opens, nothing else. I go through the 'Edit in..' option and click on the desirep option. I can send individual images to edit in PSE11 bun not merge.
I am running windows 8. I have set the external editing software to PSE11. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all the software. But still I'm having no luck with the programs working together and doing what I ask of them. Why is this?Yes you can open multiple images into PSE from LR. But actually there is no great advantage in using Lightroom for Photomerge as the export copies are already created in the Library but the saved copy will be the merged version which LR will know nothing about, and which would need to be imported to the library separately.
I would personally start from Expert Mode in PSE11 and then use:
File >> Open
Navigate directly to the folder and select the images you want and click open.
If they are raw files they will open up in camera raw and will already have the light room adjustments included, if the metadata has been saved to file in Lightroom.
Click select all (top left) and then ensure the image depth is set to 8 bits using the drop down menu at the bottom of the dialog. Then click the open images button (bottom right) to send them all into PSE.
